Joy of Life Season 2 Episode 12 Recap
> Joy of Life Season 2 Recap
Fan Xian and Li Chengze face off. Imperial Physician Li diagnosed that Fan Jian was poisoned and that Fan Xian had suffered serious internal injuries. Li Chengze deduced that the poison came from Fan Xian, who was the prized pupil of poison expert Fei Jie. He suspected that Fan Xian was faking his injuries, but the physician was adamant. With decades of medical experience, he could not have made a mistake.
However, Li Chengze still couldn’t figure out who had injured Fan Xian so badly. After the physician left, Fan Xian had Fan Ruoruo deliver the antidote to Fan Jian. Though Fan Xian had faked illness in front of the physician, his body was indeed suffering. Ever since his return from Northern Qi, the domineering internal energy within him had become increasingly uncontrollable.
Moreover, he had yet to recover from the stab wound he had received from Yan Bingyun to fake his death. Wang Qinian advised Fan Xian not to act rashly again, lest his energy become chaotic and his martial arts be ruined. Fan Xian didn’t know how to properly regulate his internal energy. When Lin Wan’er heard that Fan Xian had suffered serious internal injuries, she couldn’t visit him personally and sent Ye Ling'er to check on him.
Ye Ling'er saw that Fan Xian looked perfectly fine and assumed he was faking his illness, so she returned to report to Lin Wan’er. Following Fan Xian’s instructions, Deng Ziyue had people in the capital spread rumors about the affair between Li Hongcheng and Yuan Meng. The gossip quickly filled the city. In official circles, rumors began that Fan Xian was engaging in factionalism, using the Censorate to attack Li Chengze. Hearing this, Fan Xian became cautious.
If these rumors spread unchecked, every official would feel endangered and view him and the Imperial Inspectorate as enemies. Fan Xian instructed Deng Ziyue to spread information among the commoners, while Li Chengze had rumors about Fan Xian circulated in official circles. The two clashed openly and secretly, unwilling to yield. After careful consideration, Li Chengze decided to target Lin Wan’er. Ye Ling'er happened to be at the royal villa. When she saw Li Chengze, her anger flared.
She didn’t want to marry him but didn’t dare defy the imperial edict, fearing not only for her life but also for her family’s safety. She rushed at Li Chengze in fury but was restrained by guards. Growing more frustrated, she sat in the courtyard sharpening a knife. Fan Xian, after weighing the situation, decided to first build a good reputation in the officialdom to dispel the wariness of the officials. He immediately went to discuss marriage with Lin Wan’er.
Upon arriving at the royal villa, he saw Ye Ling'er sharpening a knife. After learning that Li Chengze was inside, he chatted with her. Realizing she only talked about killing Li Chengze but didn’t dare act, he gave her a bottle of deadly poison and told her to seize the opportunity to poison Li Chengze. Although Ye Ling'er didn’t want to kill anyone, she couldn’t avoid Li Chengze and followed Fan Xian into the room.
Li Chengze claimed he was there to clarify that Baoyue House was Fan Sizhe’s business and had nothing to do with Fan Xian. Then he suddenly changed his tone and spoke ill of Fan Xian in front of Lin Wan’er. Hearing this from outside, Fan Xian picked up a chair and hurled it into the room. Li Chengze narrowly avoided being hit, breaking into a cold sweat as he looked at the shattered chair.
Wang Qinian was waiting for Fan Xian at the villa gate when he saw the Grand Princess of Northern Qi riding a mule to visit Lin Wan’er. The mule went wild, and the princess screamed as it bolted with her on its back. Wang Qinian couldn’t help but laugh. Li Chengru and the princess had come to visit Lin Wan’er, but seeing the mule run off, he hurriedly chased after her.
Li Chengru immediately recognized Wang Qinian as Fan Xian’s confidant and remembered the warhorses he and Gao Da had gotten killed. Furious, Li Chengru confronted him. Wang Qinian nervously smiled and blamed Gao Da alone. Since Li Chengru was busy chasing after the princess, he pressed Wang Qinian for his name. Wang Qinian lied that he was Deng Ziyue and repeated it several times so Li Chengru would remember. Lin Wan’er hosted a banquet for Li Chengze.
Ye Ling'er and Fan Xian ate together. Lin Wan’er and Fan Xian, having not seen each other for a long time, expressed their longing affectionately. Lin Wan’er noticed that Fan Xian had lost weight and expressed concern. Fan Xian admitted he was pretending to be sick and urged her not to worry. Ye Ling'er drank in silence.
Li Chengze, unwilling to watch their loving display, tried to leave, but Fan Xian stopped him, demanding an explanation for the murder of Miss Jin at Baoyue House. Li Chengze claimed ignorance and suggested Fan Xian convince Fan Sizhe to turn himself in. Suppressing his grief, Fan Xian toasted Li Chengze and took the opportunity to drug his wine, vowing to seek justice for the innocent. Li Chengru brought the Grand Princess of Northern Qi to visit Lin Wan’er.
When a gust of wind messed up her hair, he helped fix it. She blushed deeply. Realizing his impropriety, Li Chengru apologized profusely and even offered to swear a blood oath. The princess was amused by his straightforwardness and burst out laughing. Li Chengru and the princess sat down to eat. Though a prince, Li Chengru had led troops in battle since childhood and didn’t eat as elegantly as Fan Xian or Li Chengze.
He ate meat in large bites and drank in big gulps. The princess cheerfully recounted how she had just bought a warhorse to repay Li Chengru. Ye Ling'er, emboldened by alcohol, announced that she wanted to call off the engagement with Li Chengze, who flatly refused. Coincidentally, all three couples present had received imperial marriage decrees from Qing Di. Li Chengru had once considered fleeing the engagement, but seeing how kind and lovable the princess was, he gave up the idea.
Fan Xian felt fortunate that the woman Qing Di had chosen for him was Lin Wan’er, the one he loved. Ye Ling'er did not dare to flee marriage, fearing it would implicate her family. Fan Xian advised her to escape to Northern Qi or Danzhou.
Li Chengze intentionally brought up rumors of Fan Xian’s romantic entanglement in Northern Qi, but the Grand Princess stepped in to clarify that Fan Xian and Haitang Duoduo were merely like-minded friends, with no romantic involvement. Lin Wan’er’s expression changed instantly, but she refrained from reacting in public. Fan Xian feared the Grand Princess would make things worse and quickly interrupted her, using the excuse of checking out the new horse to lead her away.
The princess said she had come on behalf of the Northern Qi Empress to help Fan Xian deal with Li Chengze and was planning to send a pigeon message back for evidence of Li Chengze’s smuggling. Fan Xian stopped her, afraid she might reveal more secrets. He discovered that she had bought a mule instead of a horse, and she teased Li Chengru for being duped. Lin Wan’er had already seen through Li Chengze’s intentions.
When Qing Di arranged their marriage, he had also agreed to let Fan Xian take over the treasury. Li Chengze’s attempt to sow discord was aimed at breaking their engagement and preventing Fan Xian from gaining power. Seeing that his plan had been exposed, Li Chengze refused to admit it. Lin Wan’er made it clear that her engagement with Fan Xian would not change. Li Chengze stood up to leave. Fan Xian lied, claiming he had poisoned Li Chengze’s wine.
Li Chengze was terrified. Fan Xian then handed him an antidote and left with Lin Wan’er. The Grand Princess, having enjoyed the drama, left with Li Chengru. Li Chengze, unsure whether to take the pill, turned to Li Chengru for help. Li Chengru advised him to give in to Fan Xian. Li Chengze, holding the medicine, was indecisive. Ye Ling 'er suspected that this one was the poison, which made Li Chengze tremble even more.
