After surviving a recent ordeal, Xue Wenxi, Feng Chengjun, Lei Zexin, and Yu Lexuan finally returned, bringing relief to everyone who had been worried. Meanwhile, Han Shengzhi, feeling utterly dejected after his downfall, was found drinking alone. Mu Xiaoman appeared, urging him to stop. She reminded him that he was not left with nothing, for he still had her.
She firmly told him to pull himself together, recalling his promise to give her a home and protect her, expressing her belief that he was not a coward. Later, as Feng Chengjun helped Xue Wenxi hang wet blankets in the courtyard, Lei Zexin watched them, holding a beautiful hairpin in his hand. Yu Lexuan, sensing Lei Zexin's hesitation, playfully snatched the hairpin, then it was passed to Xue Wenxi.

Lei Zexin, increasingly irritated by Feng Chengjun's presence, expressed a strong desire to skip classes to avoid him. Xue Wenbin, Xue Wenxi's true brother, had taken up an official post and served as a benevolent local official, deeply loved by his people.
