Li Luo finds herself trapped in an underground palace after falling into a sand abyss. She wakes to discover she is bound by a Divine Rope. A white-haired man emerges, whose face bears the mark of degradation. Li Luo recognizes him as the Demon She Yin, recalling a previous warning that she would identify him by this sign, as he now considers himself a demon, not a god.
She Yin tells her that not even a god can escape the Divine Rope, much less a mortal like her. Li Luo immediately asks him how a god can regain spiritual powers. She Yin confirms he knows the answer but refuses to tell her. He then mockingly asks if she knows what kind of gods are imprisoned in the North Forbidden Land, noting they are those who violated laws.
He admits to violating the law by killing and torturing people, threatening to fatten her up and torture her slowly. News of the Mirror of Truth, a lost Dream Tribe treasure, spreads. It is a magical mirror that compels anyone who places their hand on it to reveal their deepest feelings without lying.
The Ice King states that the choice of the Ice Tribe's King now rests with the people of the Three Realms, making the Mirror of Truth crucial for a fair selection. Ka Suo confirms his only purpose for being King is for the Ice King to keep a promise. Princess Lan Shang later arrives at Xing Jiu's residence, ostensibly to deliver a secret Mermaid Tribe beauty formula to Xing Gui.
However, her true intention is to see the Mirror of Truth. Xing Jiu allows her to approach the mirror. When Lan Shang places her hand on it, the mirror exposes her. It reveals she stole the beauty formula from her grandmother, the Mermaid Saint, and initially planned to use it to gain favor with the Ice Queen to promote herself to Ka Suo.
Upon learning of the Mirror of Truth, she changed her plan, intending to bribe Xing Jiu by giving the formula to Xing Gui and to gather information for Ka Suo. Lan Shang, embarrassed, begs the mirror not to reveal her thievery to the Mermaid Saint or the Ice Queen. Xing Jiu reassures her, noting that her lies were transparent and her heart is kind; her actions were only driven by her concern for Ka Suo.
Lan Shang then admits her deeper concern: whether Ka Suo would think she was scary if he knew she tried to bribe Xing Jiu. Xing Jiu confirms her motives are solely for Ka Suo, concluding that the Mirror of Truth is indeed impartial. Lan Shang hopes that everyone will support Ka Suo, as he is a good prince.
Feng Tian Po Po visits Ka Suo and views a prophetic dream from Xing Jiu, which foretells the blooming of red lotuses, the meeting of binary stars, and the spinning of the wheel of destiny. She expresses her deep concern for Ka Suo's future. Outside Ka Suo's door, Feng Tian Po Po encounters Yue Shen acting suspiciously and questions her intentions. Huang Tuo quickly intervenes, explaining that Yue Shen is merely fulfilling Li Luo's request to secretly protect Ka Suo.
Yue Shen expresses annoyance at Huang Tuo's unsolicited help, asking why he interfered. Huang Tuo replies he feared she might get impatient and start a fight if Feng Tian Po Po became suspicious. Yue Shen retorts, contrasting the trust given to the Chief of the Healer Tribe with the stereotype of a "Li Healer" being rash and reckless.
Feng Tian Po Po observes the exchange and, sensing Huang Tuo's hidden feelings for Yue Shen, directly asks him if he likes the "cold Yue Shen." She suggests his current approach is futile, advising him that women are not attracted to men who are always kind and protective, but rather to those who oppose them. Huang Tuo expresses confusion about this notion.
Feng Tian Po Po clarifies that as a female god, her preferences might differ from mortal women, but since Yue Shen is a woman, if he likes her, he should oppose her. When Huang Tuo hesitates, fearing he cannot win against Yue Shen or wanting to fight her, Feng Tian Po Po cryptically suggests he should wait for someone else to oppose Yue Shen and then match up with her.
Realizing she is a mortal and not a god, Li Luo uses this to her advantage. She manages to break free from the Divine Rope by rubbing it against a stone, as the rope is designed only to bind gods. Upon escaping, she finds She Yin obsessively trying to open a seal on a stone coffin. The seal is actively corroding his body, but he disregards the pain, persistently reaching for the coffin.
Li Luo, witnessing his struggle and the danger from the seal, shouts a warning for him to be careful. The selection of supporters for the impending competition begins using the Mirror of Truth. The Ice King declares that participants must join Ka Suo's or Ying Kong Shi's team unconditionally once the mirror reveals their true support. Xing Jiu, as the Chief Dreamer and guardian of the relic, states he will not participate to ensure fairness.
Yue Shen steps forward first, declaring her support for Prince Ka Suo, and the mirror confirms she did not lie. Huang Tuo is next. The mirror reveals his indecisiveness, noting his awareness of Yue Shen's support for Ka Suo and his intention to oppose her by choosing Ying Kong Shi to catch her attention. It also highlights his concern for Ka Suo's health as a healer and his desire to care for him, creating his hesitation.
Huang Tuo, interrupted, quickly declares his support for Ying Kong Shi, apologizing to Ka Suo, who acknowledges his understanding. Huang Tuo then attempts to speak to Yue Shen, but she remains distant. Liao Jian, King of the Bear Tribe, chooses Prince Ying Kong Shi, explaining that an Ice King should be capable of killing enemies and protecting his people. He praises Ying Kong Shi's magic, contributions in the War of Fire and Ice, and courage in challenging Ka Suo.
The mirror confirms he did not lie. Chao Ya, Queen of the Sprite Lands, also declares support for Ying Kong Shi. However, the mirror states she lied, revealing that while she admires Ka Suo, she will follow her future husband, Liao Jian, and thus his decision. Chao Ya argues that her sincere support for Liao Jian's choice means she sincerely supports Prince Shi, and the mirror accepts this, confirming she did not lie.
Ying Kong Shi accepts her into his team. Pian Feng, the Chief Bodyguard of the Sprite Lands, then steps forward. Despite an official's prediction he would follow Chao Ya and support Ying Kong Shi, Pian Feng declares his support for Prince Ka Suo. He explains that although he likes Chao Ya, she chose to follow Liao Jian, and by supporting Ka Suo, he hopes to fulfill what he perceives as her true inner desires.
He states he will fight for Ka Suo until the end. The mirror confirms he did not lie. With Ka Suo's team still small, Xuan Ta volunteers to join. However, the mirror declares he lied, stating his loyalty is only to the Ice Tribe and the mission inherited from Ancestor She Mi, not directly to Ka Suo, and thus he cannot participate.
Just as officials press the Ice King to finalize the competition arrangements due to Ka Suo's lack of supporters, Princess Lan Shang arrives. She declares her intention to join the competition, representing the Mermaid Tribe. The Ice King questions her ability to walk on land, but Lan Shang challenges him, asking if she lacks the right. The Ice King confirms her right as a mermaid princess.
Lan Shang then states to the Mirror of Truth that she supports Ka Suo, and the mirror confirms her sincerity, declaring she did not lie. Lan Shang expresses joy at being on Ka Suo's team and confidence in their ability to win if they work hard.
The Ice King then announces that the competition for King will take place in ten days, with the specific content to be decided by the citizens of the City of Bladed Snow and revealed on the day of the contest. Li Luo attempts to reason with She Yin, offering to apply medicine to his wounds if he releases her, acknowledging she cannot defeat him.
She Yin retorts that he is no longer a god, but a demon—neither god nor human—and will not be swayed by flattery. Li Luo questions his obsession with the stone coffin and suggests a game of wits: if she makes a correct guess, he must answer one of her questions. She Yin, asserting his superior intelligence, agrees. Li Luo's guess is that he won't kill her.
She Yin challenges her confidence, stating that admitting she's right would imply he wouldn't kill her, while admitting she's wrong would mean he would, and in either case, he wouldn't release her easily. Li Luo then presents her evidence: despite his claims of eating human flesh and being a killer, his body smells of herbs and grasses, leading her to conclude he hasn't eaten meat or killed anyone in centuries.
Her deduction is that he is merely feigning a fierce demeanor and will not harm her. Exposed, She Yin angrily retreats, and a voice from within him mocks him, calling him a crippled god and unworthy. Ka Suo, still hindered by the sword spirit and unable to use his divine powers, receives an update via a Messenger Owl from Lan Shang. Lan Shang's recorded message explains she found the owl and sent it back with food and a report.
She informs Ka Suo that she, Pian Feng, and Yue Shen have been training intensely day and night for the competition, which is now nine days away. She assures him not to worry, expressing confidence that they might win, and promising to unleash a "grand attack" to prove her capabilities.
Ka Suo, however, is preoccupied with concern for Li Luo, wondering why the owl returned and if something happened to her, and also increasingly hating his own incompetence due to his helplessness. Meanwhile, Yue Shen and Pian Feng continue their rigorous training.
Pian Feng acknowledges Yue Shen's exceptional abilities and points out that since the Ice Tribesmen value strong spiritual powers, and Ka Suo currently lacks his, their team—the three of them—must achieve an overwhelming victory to secure the throne for him. Lan Shang confidently states that her martial arts ability is her strongest asset and she will not lose.
Yue Shen, however, draws a knife and holds it to Lan Shang's neck, challenging her lack of combat experience and questioning how a princess with no fighting background expects to win. Lan Shang remains unfazed, asserting she has her own methods and will not lose, as her ultimate goal is for Ka Suo to become King.
Yue Shen suggests Lan Shang's true motive is to become the Ice Queen, but Lan Shang insists her desire to win stems from her belief that Ka Suo will be the best King in the Three Realms. Ying Kong Shi actively trains his team. He observes Chao Ya, noting that her Soundless Zither, while a ranged weapon, is vulnerable in close combat, urging her to improve her close-range fighting and defense.
He tells Liao Jian that despite his strength, he lacks agile adaptability, making him predictable and easily defeated if an opponent discerns his tactics. Ying Kong Shi expresses his respect for their weaknesses being exposed and expects them to change their fighting styles within the ten days. Later, Huang Tuo seeks out Yue Shen during her training with Pian Feng. He tries to apologize for choosing Ying Kong Shi instead of Ka Suo, hoping she wouldn't blame him.
Yue Shen coldly replies that his choices have nothing to do with her and dismisses him, stating she never considered him a friend. Huang Tuo, disheartened, questions why she doesn't feel she has lost a friend after their long acquaintance. Yue Shen asserts she feels no such loss and walks away, leaving Huang Tuo confused and increasingly puzzled by women's hearts.
Pian Feng, witnessing this, advises Huang Tuo that getting hated by women is preferable to being ignored, suggesting he try to get Yue Shen to hate him, citing his own unrequited feelings for Ka Suo. Chao Ya expresses lingering doubts about supporting Ying Kong Shi, concerned his cruel personality might prevent him from being a good king and questioning if their choice was correct.
Liao Jian, who supports her, suggests her wavering might be due to Pian Feng choosing Ka Suo, but Chao Ya clarifies her decision is independent of Pian Feng, rooted in her sincere support for Liao Jian himself, as confirmed by the Mirror of Truth. Liao Jian explains that while he respects Prince Ka Suo, a king must be capable of making tough, even unpopular decisions.
He sees Ka Suo's kindness and soft-heartedness as a significant weakness, making him too transparent as a ruler. In contrast, Ying Kong Shi's calm and unpredictable nature, Liao Jian argues, embodies the qualities a true King should possess. Chao Ya worries this unpredictability could lead to Ying Kong Shi becoming a ruthless tyrant, but Liao Jian assures her that with them as his advisors, they will prevent him from descending into tyranny.
Xuan Ta seeks out Xing Jiu to inquire about the investigation into the deaths of the five Ice Tribe youths in the Forest of Snow and Fog. He explains that there were no witnesses as the children were merely exploring. Xuan Ta asks if Xing Jiu can enter dreams to find the killer. Xing Jiu explains that dead people cannot dream, so he cannot directly help in that manner. However, he suggests an alternative: the sprites of the Sprite Lands might be able to find clues left by the killer.
