Heroes Episode 33 Recap
> Heroes Recap
Following their wedding ceremony, Wang Xiaoshi gently lifted Wen Rou's red veil. He was captivated by her beauty, comparing her features to the serene landscapes he cherished: her eyes shone like stars in the wilderness, her eyebrows resembled distant dark mountains, her nose was like a crescent moon, and her lips mirrored the evening's sunset glow.
Amidst the flickering candlelight, they lay facing each other, envisioning a future together in a place where they could wake to such beautiful sights every day. Wang Xiaoshi, holding Wen Rou, was certain they would find a place to live together for the rest of their lives. Meanwhile, Bai Choufei, clad in his red wedding attire, sat disconsolately in a decorated room, drinking alone.
Lei Mei entered and tried to comfort him, explaining that once a woman gives her heart to someone, no one else can compare. She confessed that this was also true for her; she had fallen for someone and wished to give herself completely to him. As she began to unfasten her belt, her eyes welled with tears, betraying her sorrow.
Observing this, Bai Choufei picked up her outer garment and gently draped it over her shoulders, telling her that as people who both came from tainted origins, there was no need for them to debase one another. In the cold, empty hall of House of Sunset Drizzle, Su Mengzhen sat alone, imagining his own wedding to Lei Chun taking place there, after which he would have taken her to the House's highest point to gaze at the stars.
He asked his advisor, Yang Wuxie, about Bai Choufei and Lei Chun's wedding. Yang Wuxie reported that Chancellor Cai's gifts were extravagant enough to buy half the capital, including a rare Jade Ruyi from the Eastern Han Dynasty. In stark contrast, Bai Choufei had only given Lei Chun ordinary tokens like earrings and rings. Hearing this, Su Mengzhen concluded that Bai Choufei was indeed inferior to him. Anticipating their visit, Su Mengzhen waited for Bai Choufei and Lei Chun.
Upon their arrival, Bai Choufei asserted his new authority as House Master when a defiant keeper, Shi Wukui, tried to block his path. Yang Wuxie intervened, allowing them to enter as per Su Mengzhen’s orders. Inside, Bai Choufei cruelly forced Lei Chun to serve tea to Su Mengzhen, citing it as a basic courtesy to an elder brother. He then presented a gift, compelling Lei Chun to claim they had chosen it together.
When Su Mengzhen opened it, he found the shattered pendant that once connected him to Lei Chun, now crudely pieced back together. Shocked by Bai’s cruelty, Lei Chun glared at him. Su Mengzhen, masking his pain, accepted the gift, remarking that he liked it because it was "round and complete."
Before Bai Choufei departed with Lei Chun, Su Mengzhen offered him some advice, stating that life's hurdles are self-imposed and that as a married man, Bai should solve his own inner conflicts without involving others. Bai Choufei acknowledged the words. Outside, he saw Lei Chun's tear-streaked face and initially assumed she was worried about him, but quickly realized her tears were out of fear that he might kill Su Mengzhen. He coldly told her it was not yet time.
Later, Yang Wuxie reported that Bai Choufei, backed by the Youqiao Group, had raised a formidable force of suicide warriors known as "Case 108." Many of the House's hidden branches had been discovered and destroyed, with any dissenters being imprisoned by the Ministry of Justice. Shi Wukui declared his intention to kill Bai Choufei, but Su Mengzhen stopped him.
He reminded his followers that they were his friends, not his disposable soldiers, and that he wanted them to live for themselves. He explained their strategy was to wait for a turning point and for a specific person, revealing to everyone's astonishment that Wang Xiaoshi was still alive. Meanwhile, Wang Xiaoshi, who had delayed his departure with Wen Rou to ensure Official Liu's safe return, went with Big Beard to deliver supplies to a sentry post.
They found it eerily silent and discovered the guards had all been killed by arrows. Wang Xiaoshi identified the projectiles as the work of his highly skilled martial uncle, Yuan Shisanxian (Thirteen Doom), and noted numerous horse tracks indicating a large attacking force. He instructed Big Beard to warn the other sentry posts and Official Liu, while he rushed back to Baimao Stronghold to inform his master, Tianyi Jushi. Elsewhere, Fang Yingkan's men were scouring villages for Liu Anshi.
Thirteen Doom appeared and confirmed he had attacked the sentry post. He revealed that Liu Anshi was being assisted by Wang Xiaoshi’s martial brother, Xu Xiaoyi, and their base was Baimao Stronghold. Thirteen Doom offered Fang Yingkan the credit for capturing Liu Anshi but demanded Xu Xiaoyi for himself. He also insisted that the military order, a document incriminating Chancellor Cai, must be handed over to him upon its discovery. Fang Yingkan reluctantly agreed.
Fang Yingkan's men later captured Big Beard and two other soldiers, forcing them to kneel on the thin ice of a frozen lake. Fang Yingkan offered them freedom if they could walk across. A young soldier tried but fell through into the freezing water. Having devised a plan, Big Beard also attempted the crossing and seemingly fell in.
The last soldier, terrified, revealed that Official Liu was already on his way back and would reach Baimao Stronghold the next day, offering a messenger pigeon's letter as proof. After taking the letter, Fang Yingkan called the soldier his "friend" and promised not to kill him, but then cynically forced him to cross the ice, stating that while he wouldn't kill him, Heaven might. The soldier plunged to his death, cursing Fang Yingkan.
As Fang's forces rode off to intercept Liu Anshi, he commented that since Thirteen Doom wanted to kill someone at Baimao Stronghold, they should let him have his fill. After they departed, a hand broke through the cracked ice—Big Beard had survived.
