Fourteen years ago, Jiang met with Chen Mingyuan. Chen Mingyuan asked Jiang what he had been doing lately, and Jiang replied he was just dawdling. Chen Mingyuan said with a convoy and connections, he wasn't just dawdling, but Jiang told him he was annoyed and didn't want to talk about it. Chen Mingyuan asked if it was about the Tuan Island market and warned Jiang not to interfere with it.
Chen Mingyuan explained that Jiang didn't know the boss behind it was Wen Liangsong, a powerful figure from Yang City with extensive business and connections in both the legitimate and underworld, stating that even the two of them combined were insignificant compared to him. Chen Mingyuan advised him not to waste his effort, but Jiang insisted he liked challenges. After Jiang left, Chen Mingyuan's subordinate questioned why he was speaking so politely.
Chen Mingyuan explained that talking like that would provoke Jiang and make him bolder, leading to a conflict that would benefit him, as he felt it was time to change his "number two" position. Sun Changhe and his partner located Chen Mingyuan by tracking his dog. Wen Binbin and Luo Tianyi secretly followed them to the abandoned building. Wen Binbin recorded a video on his phone and sent it to Fei Zai.
When the dog approached Wen Binbin, Sun Changhe saw Wen Binbin and Luo Tianyi. Sun and his partner cornered them, but Wen Binbin and Luo Tianyi managed to escape skillfully. As Wen Binbin and Luo Tianyi left the building, they saw Liu Yong and his team arriving, but by the time Liu Yong went inside to apprehend Chen Mingyuan, he had already disappeared.
Qi Hanchen instructed his assistant An Zhihui to meet with Chen Mingyuan to get him to sign a share transfer agreement for Tuan Island. Qi Hanchen emphasized that he needed the signed agreement regardless of the method used. Chen Mingyuan, driven by his subordinate, went to meet An Zhihui. Chen Mingyuan asked where Uncle Long was, and An Zhihui pointed to a car behind him.
Chen Mingyuan approached the car, and the window rolled down revealing a man wearing glasses inside. The man identified himself as Uncle Long. Chen Mingyuan urgently asked about the identity of the person who hired the killer to harm Bao Chenyan, explaining that everyone now believed he was responsible and he was forced to hide.
Uncle Long stated he could not reveal the client's identity due to the rules of his profession but promised to clear Chen Mingyuan's name within a week. After the conversation with Uncle Long, An Zhihui presented Chen Mingyuan with a thick share transfer agreement for Tuan Island, stating that Qi Hanchen expected him to sign it immediately. Chen Mingyuan protested, saying the agreement was too long, and he needed time to read it, especially in the dark location.
An Zhihui insisted that the signing had to happen that day. Chen Mingyuan became angry, declaring he had never read so much text in his life and that Tuan Island was his life's work, refusing to sign. An Zhihui then resorted to violence, attacking Chen Mingyuan. Sun Changhe and his partner, who were also at the location, saw the conflict and questioned why such methods were needed for a contract.
An Zhihui told them to leave and that they would receive the money promised by his boss. Sun and his partner demanded the money on the spot. A fight broke out between An Zhihui and Sun Changhe and his partner. An Zhihui killed both Sun Changhe and his partner. During the chaos, Chen Mingyuan seized the opportunity and escaped. Liu Yong and Fei Zai went to MorningStar Group to find An Zhihui.
They were directed to wait in a tea room. After a considerable wait, Fei Zai asked when they would be able to see An Zhihui, but the receptionist, Wang Leilei, repeatedly asked them to wait. As Fei Zai and Liu Yong prepared to leave the waiting area, they saw four individuals standing outside the door. Shortly after, someone arrived to escort them to see An Zhihui.
An Zhihui was brought to the police station for questioning, with Xing Liang and Fei Zai present. Fei Zai asked him about his whereabouts the previous night between nine and eleven o'clock. An Zhihui claimed he was at home participating in a remote video conference. Fei Zai then showed him a photograph that captured him driving on a highway near Nanshan.
An Zhihui changed his statement, claiming he had misremembered and that the video conference was the night before, while the previous night he had gone to a farm near Nanshan to pick vegetables. While the interrogation was ongoing, a man arrived at the police station and confessed to killing Sun Changhe and his partner, claiming he did it for money and did not know An Zhihui.
Despite the police's suspicion that the man was a scapegoat, Tai Yongzheng instructed Xing Liang to release An Zhihui, citing the lack of new evidence against An Zhihui and the confessor's surrender with evidence. Tai Yongzheng emphasized the need to focus on solving the murder case and recovering the weapon during this sensitive period. Chen Mingyuan called Bao Chenyan, stating he knew what happened the previous day.
He told Bao Chenyan that another group, who also wanted Tuan Island, was actually targeting him, not Chen Mingyuan. He warned Bao Chenyan that he was exposed while his enemies were hidden, giving him no chance of winning. Chen Mingyuan informed Bao Chenyan that he was leaving Binjiang that night and offered to meet him alone at the same number if he wanted to learn more. Bao Chenyan expressed surprise at Chen Mingyuan's call and questioned if he was trying to implicate him before leaving.
