Ding Zhitong returned to her place, suffering unbearable stomach pain, and suddenly fainted in the room. It wasn't until the next morning when Feng Sheng came to look for her that he found her collapsed on the floor and took her to the hospital. After waking up, Ding Zhitong insisted on being discharged immediately. She wanted to keep herself busy, believing that was the only way to numb her emotions.

Feng Sheng tried to comfort her, but she pushed him out. Lying alone in the hospital bed, Ding Zhitong couldn’t hold back her tears. Once discharged, Ding Zhitong moved out with Feng Sheng’s help. She didn’t take the photo of her and Gan Yang, but as she shut the door, tears still fell uncontrollably. She recalled how Gan Yang used to cook for her, and seeing a neighbor go jogging reminded her of Gan Yang inviting her to run together.

At Gan Yang’s home in Putian, his stomach condition worsened due to days of exhaustion. When he reached for his medicine, the bottle fell to the floor. As Ding Zhitong helped pick it up, Gan Yang apologized, admitting how childish it had been to make her choose between him and money. Now, going through the same struggle, he realized the importance of financial stability. The endless social obligations had caused his illness.

Ding Zhitong handed him a glass of water with the medicine, but as he took it and looked closely, he realized everything was just his imagination—Ding Zhitong wasn’t really there. Ding Zhitong called Song Mingmei and said she planned to marry Feng Sheng. Feng Sheng had quit his job for her and was the only one willing to stay by her side.

Song Mingmei advised her to think it through and not marry someone she didn’t love, but still told Gan Yang about the wedding. Gan Yang showed up at the bridal fitting, but before they could talk, he asked why she was marrying Feng Sheng—was it out of love or because she hated Gan Yang? Ding Zhitong snapped back, asking why he thought she would degrade herself out of hatred.

She insisted she loved Feng Sheng and told Gan Yang never to appear again. Gan Yang could only smile and wish her well as he said goodbye, but as he turned away, tears fell uncontrollably. After he left, Ding Zhitong squatted on the ground and cried in silence. Time flew by, and six years passed. Ding Zhitong and Gan Yang participated in a competition together. Gan Yang let go of Ding Zhitong’s hand during the race.

He had never changed his phone number, but Ding Zhitong had long since changed hers. She gave him a new number. During drinks after the event, everyone toasted Gan Yang, but Xu Chenxi stepped in and drank for him. Ding Zhitong insisted on toasting Gan Yang herself. Her words were laced with aggression, making Gan Yang uncomfortable and drink more, only to be stopped again by Xu Chenxi. Ding Zhitong noticed everything.

Gan Yang pulled Ding Zhitong aside to the restroom, trying to ask how she had been lately. Ding Zhitong didn’t want to engage at all. When she heard that her investment partner this time was Gan Yang, Song Mingmei offered to accompany her, but Ding Zhitong declined.

Gan Yang drank too much and had a relapse of his stomach illness, ending up in the hospital. The company asked Ding Zhitong to apologize. At the hospital, Xu Chenxi looked after Gan Yang, constantly scolding him for being love-struck, afraid that he might recklessly agree to the funding. Gan Yang recalled seeing Feng Sheng wearing a wedding ring at a restaurant, and heard he had bought a house nearby and planned to get a bigger one for the child.

It all seemed so blissful. Since then, Gan Yang avoided hearing anything related to Ding Zhitong. Gan Yang explained to Xu Chenxi that he just wanted to know whether Ding Zhitong was doing well and wouldn’t invest recklessly. Seeing him so uncomfortable, Xu Chenxi fed him and wiped his mouth, just as Ding Zhitong arrived at the hospital and saw them. Furious, she threw the flowers into the trash.

Ding Zhitong tried to submit her resignation, but Director Zhang couldn’t understand why someone as hardworking as her would quit. How could this one project cause such pressure? Realizing it was tied to her future, Ding Zhitong immediately took back her resignation and expressed determination to stay. She was confident that Gan Yang would show up at the press conference in two days.

At the Langteng press conference, Gan Yang hosted in person, though it was noticeably quieter than the one by rival Shuchi Footwear. He exposed the fake online prices and presented the real data. During the event, he quoted a line from Ding Zhitong: “Make shoes so good that even people who hate running will love to run. ” Ding Zhitong’s assistant, seeing Gan Yang turn things around, was filled with admiration for him.

Ding Zhitong arranged a meeting with Gan Yang to discuss collaboration. Xu Chenxi strongly opposed it. Gan Yang suggested adding Ding Zhitong on WeChat, but she signaled for her assistant to add instead, and Gan Yang also asked his assistant to add hers.
