Discovery of Romance Recap
Episode 1 Recap
Ten years ago, Xia Tian’s first love with Xu Zehao was a case of love at first sight. She remembered not caring about being the one to take the initiative or feeling embarrassed, only wanting to boldly express her feelings. Xu Zehao was drawn to her open, generous, and straightforward nature, finding her truly lovely. Their five-year relationship was happy and compatible both mentally and physically.
Even after five years apart, Xu Zehao's memories of her remained vivid, and he felt he had become incapable of love, unable to compromise with other women. Xia Tian, however, believed she had put more effort into the relationship and felt he hadn't truly invested himself. She stated that she was the one who ended things.
While Xu Zehao still entertained thoughts of meeting her and being friends, Xia Tian dismissed the idea, asserting she had enough friends and, more importantly, a perfect boyfriend, Guan Xin. Xu Zehao wondered about Xia Tian's current life, if she was married or had a boyfriend. On the morning of her 30th birthday, Xia Tian woke up in Xu Zehao’s bed.
As Guan Xin called, announcing his arrival at her apartment downstairs with a surprise, Xia Tian panicked, desperately trying to send him away. She first claimed her roommates, Xiao Song and Donghao, were fighting, making the atmosphere at home unpleasant. However, Xiao Song and Donghao, returning from their morning run, unexpectedly appeared, inadvertently exposing her lie by revealing she hadn't been home all night.
Xia Tian then tried another excuse, saying she was at her mother’s place to care for her ailing mother. But her mother then arrived at the apartment with a birthday gift, further dismantling Xia Tian's story and forcing her to hang up on Guan Xin. Recalling the events of ten days prior, Xia Tian and Xiao Song were struggling to meet rent and were deep in designing a wine cabinet for a demanding client.
The client had initially requested a design that was "low-key yet high-key, simple yet lavish, concise yet with a touch of extravagance," aiming for a blend of Eastern and Western styles, quaint yet modern. He eventually decided he simply wanted a "gold dragon" on the cabinet. Xia Tian reminded Xiao Song their motto was simply "endure" in such situations.
Just then, Xiao Song received a message from Donghao revealing that Guan Xin was going on a blind date that afternoon, with a stern warning not to tell Xia Tian. Abandoning their motto, Xia Tian and Xiao Song rushed to the coffee shop to confront him. At the cafe, Xia Tian sat at an adjacent table to Guan Xin and his date, planning to eavesdrop.
She overheard Guan Xin's date, who asked about his preferences for girlfriends, knowing he was a plastic surgeon. Guan Xin replied he didn't need someone perfect, just compatible, and mentioned he and his current girlfriend were getting along well. Xia Tian, feeling increasingly agitated, began typing a note on her phone to pass to the person opposite Guan Xin, explaining her boyfriend was on a blind date behind her back and asking for cooperation.
To her shock, she realized the person was Xu Zehao, her ex-boyfriend, who greeted her with a "Long time no see." Guan Xin's date further inquired about "her own" looks, which prompted Guan Xin to praise "her" beauty multiple times. Xia Tian, thinking of Xu Zehao, mentally chastised him for being as "conceited, indifferent, and inconsiderate" as ever. When Guan Xin’s date suggested their parents, who worked at the same hospital, should have dinner together, Xia Tian erupted.
She confronted Guan Xin, accusing him of going on a blind date behind her back despite their good relationship. She declared their breakup and splashed a glass of water on Xu Zehao. As she stormed out and hailed a taxi, Xu Zehao, still dripping wet, softly told her, "I've always missed you." Moments later, Guan Xin received an urgent call, requiring him to rush back to the hospital due to a patient dispute.
In the taxi, Xia Tian realized she had mistakenly taken Xu Zehao’s phone. She called his assistant, Yu Hui, demanding her phone be returned immediately. However, Xu Zehao, through his assistant, childishly insisted Xia Tian come to retrieve it herself. That evening, Xia Tian found herself at Youwu Pub, drinking heavily. She confided in the owner, expressing her heartbreak over Guan Xin's blind date. She reminisced about meeting Guan Xin at the same bar.
Xiao Song had introduced him as a handsome "ladies' man" from the hospital, known for being gentle. Xia Tian recalled joking that handsome men were often playboys but then conceded that looks didn't necessarily equate to infidelity. She and Xiao Song had planned to abstain from dating for a while. Guan Xin had asked Xia Tian if she would consider dating him if he were the right person, and then specifically if "he" could be that person.
That night, they had continued drinking at a nearby park. Now, Xia Tian lamented how Guan Xin had praised his blind date as "pretty" and "a great person" to her face, accusing him of being greedy. She was furious and deeply embarrassed by the day's events, especially having made such a scene in front of Xu Zehao, whom she considered "arrogant, conceited, and supercilious."
As Xu Zehao arrived at Youwu Pub to return her phone, a heavily intoxicated Xia Tian, believing him to be a hallucination, slapped him once. She then tried to hand him a stray dog she had found, but Xu Zehao recoiled, explaining he was allergic to dog hair. Xia Tian, convinced she was dreaming because "Xu Zehao would never talk like that" or appear in her dreams, even though she missed him, insisted she needed to use the bathroom immediately.
Xu Zehao drove her to his place, tolerating her urgent pleas for speed and her discomfort in the passenger seat. At his house, she struggled to remember her own address or even Xiao Song's phone number. Mistaking Xu Zehao for Guan Xin, she tearfully confronted him again, asking why he had gone on a blind date behind her back. Xu Zehao apologized as she drifted off to sleep on his sofa.
Overcome with emotion, he decided to let her stay the night, leading to an awkward situation the following morning. The next morning, Xia Tian woke up confused, questioning Xu Zehao about why she was at his house and what had happened. He found it a pity she couldn't remember, describing the previous night as "very beautiful." He asked if she would rather pretend nothing happened, given her boyfriend.
He then provocatively told her she had been "so passionate" the night before, making him reluctant to send her back to her boyfriend. When she demanded to know why he hadn't sent her home, reminding him she knew Xiao Song and Donghao and had a boyfriend, Xu Zehao simply replied that he didn't want to, as he had long desired to spend a night alone with her. He then asked if she had missed him since their breakup. Xia Tian curtly replied, "No," to which he admitted, "I did."
Episode 2 Recap
On her birthday morning, Xia Tian woke up at Xu Zehao's apartment, overcome with regret and unable to recall the events of the previous night, including how she ended up there and why she was half-dressed. Xu Zehao playfully asked if she had missed him since their breakup, but she firmly denied it, though he admitted to missing her.
He then invited her to have breakfast to celebrate her birthday, but Xia Tian declined, emphatically stating that she preferred to spend her special day with truly important people and expressed her strong desire to never see him again. Xu Zehao watched her leave with a hint of sadness, while Xia Tian's mind reeled from the embarrassing situation. Meanwhile, at Xia Tian's apartment, Donghao and Xiao Song grew anxious upon seeing Xia Tian's phone location in an unfamiliar neighborhood.
Guan Xin arrived, bearing a birthday cake and flowers, eager to celebrate with Xia Tian. He inquired about Xia Tian's whereabouts, but Donghao and Xiao Song feigned ignorance, fearing to reveal her suspicious location. Unable to wait any longer, Guan Xin had to leave for the hospital, taking his flowers with him. Donghao then urged Xiao Song to call Xia Tian immediately, but her phone was unreachable.
Upon Xia Tian's eventual return, Donghao and Xiao Song hurriedly lit candles and offered birthday noodles, even as Xia Tian spoke to Guan Xin briefly over the phone. Once she hung up, they launched into a severe interrogation. Under their relentless questioning, Xia Tian nervously confessed that she had spent the night at Xu Zehao's house. She explained that she had encountered him while trying to confront Guan Xin at his blind date, leading to them accidentally swapping phones.
She then went drinking, got completely drunk, and ended up falling asleep at Xu Zehao's place when she went to retrieve her phone. Donghao and Xiao Song were aghast, especially as Xia Tian admitted she had blacked out and remembered nothing. Xiao Song then presented Xia Tian with Guan Xin's birthday gift: a gift Xia Tian had once casually admired, a testament to his thoughtfulness.
However, the moment of sentimentality was cut short by Xiao Song and Donghao, who reminded her of the need to conceal the truth from Guan Xin. Donghao quickly concocted a story for Guan Xin, claiming Xia Tian had gotten drunk, wandered into a park, was picked up by the police, and spent the night at the police station. Guan Xin's calm "I see" and subsequent distant demeanor made Xia Tian realize he didn't believe the lie.
She understood he was pretending to be deceived because of his deep affection for her, wryly noting that this emotional complexity was truly a "big gift" for her thirtieth birthday. Adding to her stressful birthday, Xia Tian was then confronted by her mother, who also happened to be her landlord, demanding overdue rent.
During a lecture, her mother, a writer, used Xia Tian's personal life as an example for her article, "Love Mask," criticizing people who present a false perfect image in relationships. Xia Tian tried to charm her way out of paying the rent, even offering her personal anecdotes for her mother's writing. However, her mother saw through her tactics, explicitly stating that Xia Tian was trying to delay payment.
Although her mother eventually promised not to evict her before the end of the month, she also observed that Xia Tian would not let her boyfriend know about her financial struggles, highlighting the emotional "mask" she wore. Annoyed by her mother's public criticism, Xia Tian attempted to leave, to which her mother dryly remarked that honesty often makes people uncomfortable. Both Xu Zehao and Guan Xin found themselves grappling with how to contact Xia Tian.
Xu Zehao, holding a puppy Xia Tian had left with him, struggled to compose a birthday message, deleting several attempts that felt too awkward. He even considered asking about the puppy instead. Meanwhile, Xia Tian stared at Guan Xin's chat, wondering why he hadn't reached out to her. Donghao, concerned about their relationship, urged Guan Xin to make the first move, reminding him of Xia Tian’s pride. Guan Xin, however, expressed frustration at always being the one to initiate contact.
Despite his internal conflict, Guan Xin eventually decided to act, sending Xia Tian a message to ask if they could talk. Guan Xin met Xia Tian for dinner and explained that his blind date was a family obligation, arranged by his mother, and he hadn't wanted to disrespect his elders. He then gently pressed Xia Tian for an explanation about her whereabouts, confessing he had checked her phone's location out of concern for her safety.
Xia Tian, conflicted, eventually admitted to swapping phones with a man she met at the blind date location (who was her ex-boyfriend, though she omitted this detail to Guan Xin) and had ended up falling asleep at his place after getting drunk out of anger over Guan Xin's blind date. She insisted nothing untoward had happened and pleaded for his forgiveness.
Guan Xin, visibly upset, reminded her of her tendency to act coquettishly when drunk, which could easily be misinterpreted, recalling how she behaved during their first meeting in a park. Angered by his implications, Xia Tian retorted that his blind date was the sole reason for her drinking, and she questioned if he believed she was indiscriminately casual with others when drunk.
Although Guan Xin clarified that he liked her during their first drunken encounter, Xia Tian felt profoundly misunderstood and frustrated, leading her to abruptly end their dinner and leave. Still fuming from her conversation with Guan Xin, Xia Tian called Xu Zehao and confronted him at a pet store, where he was bathing the puppy she had left in his care.
She furiously demanded to know exactly what had transpired the previous night, accusing him of taking her clothes off since she woke up partially dressed. Xu Zehao, mockingly, brushed off her accusations, reminding her of their past intimacy and her own behavior when drunk. Xia Tian insisted she needed to know the full truth to explain to Guan Xin, openly declaring her deep love for Guan Xin, which Xu Zehao dismissively questioned.
She then firmly stated that nothing had happened between them, a fact Xu Zehao confirmed, much to her relief. Reassured but still angry, Xia Tian sharply criticized Xu Zehao as arrogant, selfish, and egoistic, reiterating her desire to never see him again, and leaving the puppy in his care with a stern warning not to abandon it. After their heated exchange, both Xia Tian and Xu Zehao individually reflected on their past relationship, dredging up a litany of petty grievances.
Xu Zehao pondered why Xia Tian judged him so harshly, while Xia Tian complained about his habit of taking the first sip of her bubble tea. Xu Zehao countered by listing her overly specific bubble tea preferences and defending his first sip as a quality check. Xia Tian then brought up his messy nail-cutting habits.
Their thoughts highlighted how minor irritations, combined with a lack of earnest communication, contributed to their breakup, though Xu Zehao initially celebrated the "joy" of their separation. Xu Zehao then reminisced about their first meeting ten years ago on a train. He cherished a photo from that day, recalling how Xia Tian, direct and charming, openly admitted her liking for him. They discovered a shared passion for interior and wood furniture design, instantly connecting.
He remembered her lively personality, even as she critiqued another passenger for fangirling. This first encounter, a moment of love at first sight, became a cherished memory that Xu Zehao recalled every time he traveled by train. In stark contrast, Xia Tian now loathed train travel because their breakup, years later, had also occurred at a train station, tainting the memory for her. The narrative then shifted to the painful memory of their breakup at Lingxi Station.
During their train journey, Xu Zehao was engrossed in work, oblivious to Xia Tian's growing sadness and attempts to engage him. She silently nursed her grievances, eventually moving to a different seat. At the station, Xia Tian broke down in tears, feeling neglected and unloved. She confronted Xu Zehao, accusing him of prioritizing work over her and questioning his commitment. He, in turn, defended his demanding workload and tried to dismiss her feelings as unreasonable.
Xia Tian, tired of always being the one to initiate and wait, declared she had had enough and initiated the breakup, choosing their starting point, the train station, as their end. Xu Zehao was taken aback, unable to grasp her reasons, and pointed out his busy schedule. Xia Tian retorted that his ignorance was precisely why they were breaking up, accusing him of not caring about her emotional distress.
She expressed her weariness of being the only one holding on while he remained emotionally distant, warning him that she wouldn't come back if he let her go. Despite his plea, Xia Tian walked away, ending their five-year relationship. Reflecting on the breakup, Xu Zehao conceded their love might have faded but insisted it didn't warrant a separation.
He then revealed that five years ago, after their breakup, Xia Tian had, in a moment of despair, tried to reconcile with him, desperately calling from a phone booth in the rain and coming to his apartment. Xia Tian, however, believed that Xu Zehao had subtly pushed her to end the relationship through his emotional indifference. At his construction site, Xu Zehao also faced a colleague's blunt advice about the importance of financial stability for a lasting relationship.
He wondered if, given another chance to choose, their outcome might be different, acknowledging their youth and inexperience as first loves. But for Xia Tian, now content with her current life, there was no need for a second chance.
Episode 3 Recap
Xia Tian was abruptly woken from a dream where she slapped Xu Zehao, finding the dream surprisingly real and satisfying. Despite this, she focused on reconciling with Guan Xin. Donghao, acting as an intermediary, relayed messages between them, complaining to Xia Tian that she was being a "scheming girl" for deliberately displaying a bracelet Guan Xin had given her and feigning sadness and loss of appetite for days.
Xia Tian, however, felt her conscience was "on vacation" and reminded Donghao of how exhausted he was from their back-and-forth. She reflected on past lessons learned from Xu Zehao, realizing that in love, the person who confesses first often has to back down first in arguments, and that courage alone isn't enough; strategy and skill are also needed, especially when apologizing.
She acknowledged that while five years ago she thought Xu Zehao was awful, and still didn't consider him a good man, she now understood she hadn't known how to properly deal with men. Later, Xia Tian arrived at Guan Xin's messy home and began tidying up. When Guan Xin returned, she playfully hid in his wardrobe.
She initially claimed she only came to clean and was about to leave, but Guan Xin pressed her, asking if she hadn't come because she missed him. Xia Tian hinted at wanting more than just an escort home. Guan Xin insisted she should apologize first for doing wrong, but Xia Tian challenged him, asking why she always had to win and if he couldn't just let her win this once, as she was already there.
Guan Xin admitted that while he found her trick of coaxing him annoying, he didn't dislike it. Xia Tian then asked if their argument was over and promised to try to drink less in the future. Guan Xin clarified she would only drink when she was with him. He then apologized for going on a blind date without telling her.
Xia Tian, in turn, thanked him for always being the one to apologize first, though she immediately teased him, saying that wasn't enough to make her forgive him entirely. Meanwhile, Xu Zehao was in a business meeting, discussing the "Guixin Old House Guesthouse Project," a plan to transform abandoned old houses into a national guesthouse chain. He emphasized the need for an innovative, fresh design team.
His assistant, Yu Hui, presented several candidates, but Xu Zehao quickly dismissed larger, more experienced firms. He paused at a smaller entry: Xia Song Studio. Yu Hui described it as a wood furniture and interior design studio with a natural, special, warm, and ingenious style, despite its limited portfolio. Xu Zehao instructed Yu Hui to contact them.
At Xia Song Studio, Xia Tian and Xiao Song were struggling financially, working on an "emperor cabinet" that yielded little profit compared to the effort. They worried about overdue rent and future expenses. Xu Zehao and Yu Hui then arrived. Xiao Song was surprised, but Xia Tian immediately expressed her reluctance to see him. Yu Hui introduced herself and their firm, Unbounded Space Design Firm.
Xu Zehao looked around the studio and recalled a past conversation where Xia Tian shared her dream of opening her own studio. He had suggested he would gift her a ping-pong table to use as a desk, and to resolve conflicts with clients by playing a game, with the winner's decision prevailing. Xia Tian had loved the idea at the time.
Yu Hui presented the collaboration opportunity, highlighting Xia Song Studio's unique style as a perfect fit for the "Guixin Old House" project. Xia Tian was initially wary, questioning what such a large company saw in their small workshop. Xu Zehao directly praised her furniture designs, noting their individuality, use of natural materials, and bright, fresh, soothing aesthetic. Yu Hui handed over the project details, and Xia Tian recognized it as the specific project she had always wanted to work on.
Xu Zehao confirmed it was his company's project and promised immediate payment upon contract signing due to a tight schedule. Despite Xia Tian's hesitation, Xiao Song enthusiastically accepted the offer on her behalf, assuring Xu Zehao they would successfully complete the project. Xu Zehao then requested a private conversation with Xia Tian, ordering an Americano. While they spoke, Xiao Song informed Yu Hui that Xia Tian and Xu Zehao were ex-lovers who were "dead to each other."
During their private conversation, Xia Tian unequivocally rejected working with Xu Zehao, stating she wouldn't be friends with an ex, let alone collaborate professionally, as seeing him brought back "painful memories." Xu Zehao, however, claimed his memories were "sweet and beautiful," even recalling their kisses. He provocatively asked if she would consider leaving her "blind date guy" and returning to him, promising to never neglect her or cause her pain again.
Xia Tian found his "idol drama" theatrics disgusting, noting he wouldn't have said such "nauseating" things ten years ago. Xu Zehao then switched tactics, claiming he was merely testing her feelings for him; since she apparently had none, they could proceed as professional client and contractor, separating their emotions from work. He told her to consider it and contact him.
Xia Tian found his demeanor "conceited," "naive," and "self-righteous," dismissing his "Kabedon" style as childish and ineffective on her, a woman no longer in her twenties. As Xu Zehao left, he confided in his assistant that he was confident Xia Tian would take the project, knowing her pride and desire to prove herself would drive her to accept and show she had no lingering feelings for him.
Back at the studio, Xiao Song continued to push Xia Tian to accept the lucrative project, comparing it to earning a hundred times their current pay and a chance to turn their fortunes around. Xia Tian still worried about Guan Xin's reaction, especially after their recent reconciliation following an argument involving Xu Zehao.
Xiao Song dismissed her concerns and reminded her of their mounting debts: Xia Tian owed her mother 24,000 yuan for rent, 15,000 for a new computer, and 6,000 for an appendectomy (totaling 45,000 yuan), while Xiao Song herself owed 12,000 yuan in overdue rent. Xia Tian's mother arrived to collect the money, meticulously listing out all the debts. She even chastised Xia Tian for her appendectomy, remarking on her body responsibility.
Observing Xia Tian's frequent nights out, her mother also sternly advised her to "pay attention to contraception." Xia Tian tried to elicit sympathy by mentioning her plans for marriage, but her mother saw through it, telling her to "stop pretending" and pointing out that other mothers bought gifts for their daughters' weddings, whereas Xia Tian only discussed debts. Guan Xin was out exercising with his mother, who inquired about Xia Tian's fitness habits.
He explained Xia Tian's busy schedule as a furniture designer with her own studio. His mother, unexpectedly accepting of Xia Tian's profession, emphasized the importance of a strong, value-aligned relationship, and crucially, finding someone who loved him more, as he always prioritized others. She subtly steered the conversation to "the girl you met last time" from a blind date.
Guan Xin tried to assure her of Xia Tian's love and offered to introduce them, but his mother deflected and asked him to buy her a black coffee. At the coffee shop, Guan Xin encountered Lu Xi, who recognized him as the hospital's coffee delivery recipient. She mentioned having multiple jobs. As she prepared his two Americanos to go, Guan Xin noticed an old scar on her left hand.
Lu Xi explained it was from falling off a bicycle at a welfare house when she was six years old. This revelation visibly unsettled Guan Xin, stirring old memories, before he asked her name. Later, Donghao, upon learning about the potential collaboration with Xu Zehao, excitedly urged Xia Tian and Xiao Song to take the project, stating it was the only way out of their financial woes and insisting they "must never let Guan Xin know about this."
Xiao Song playfully suggested they view it as an "act of revenge": take Xu Zehao's money, maintain a professional distance, and then, after receiving the final payment, tell him they were using his money to get married, but not to him. Xia Tian called her "vicious" but listened.
Xiao Song even proposed a coin toss to decide, but Donghao's coin was comically rigged with "both sides are flowers," leading to an argument about his hidden agenda involving a woman named Tan Xu. Despite her outward refusal, Xia Tian visited the old town where the Guixin Old House project was located. She observed the preserved old trees, taking photos, and reflected on the area's "traces of love for life" and "people who love wood."
Unbeknownst to her, Xu Zehao was secretly following her, observing her quiet contemplation. He recalled a past conversation where Xia Tian passionately explained her love for trees, viewing each as a life that deserved to be treated well, and her dream of opening "Xia Song Studio."
Xia Tian mused that if the project wasn't connected to Xu Zehao, she would "go for it without hesitation," wondering if she truly needed to let her past interfere with an opportunity for something she loved. The next morning, Xu Zehao arrived at Xia Tian's home with breakfast, directly asking about her decision on the collaboration. Xia Tian claimed she hadn't decided, but Xu Zehao revealed he saw her at the old house yesterday, implying her interest.
He then proposed a challenge: a game of table tennis. If he won, she would collaborate with him; if she won, he would "disappear forever." Xia Tian accepted. They played at her studio, an intense match. In the final decisive point, Xia Tian deliberately missed the shot, allowing Xu Zehao to win, a subtle smile playing on her lips as she thought, "Actually, I could have won."
Episode 4 Recap
Xia Tian deliberately lost the final point in a game of ping pong to Xu Zehao, signaling her agreement to their collaboration. She immediately asked for the deposit upon signing the contract, due to her studio's financial struggles. Xu Zehao, however, admitted his own ulterior motive for the collaboration was Xia Tian herself. When Xia Tian sarcastically dismissed his declaration, he quickly reasserted professional boundaries, clarifying that "business is business" and personal feelings would not interfere.
After Xu Zehao left, Donghao questioned Xia Tian about how she would explain the collaboration with her ex-boyfriend to Guan Xin. Xia Tian initially joked about telling him the whole truth but then stated she would only mention the project. She believed that honesty was crucial between partners and had nothing to hide, but needed to find the right time and a way to avoid hurting anyone.
Later that night, Guan Xin, troubled by a recurring nightmare about a mistake he made in childhood, called Xia Tian. Earlier, a scar he saw had triggered his memory of an incident at the orphanage when he was six, and this memory seemed connected to his persistent nightmares. Waking from the nightmare, he found himself unable to sleep, even after using aromatherapy scent.
Xia Tian offered to meet him, and they ended up at a football field, kicking a ball around until they were exhausted. Guan Xin confessed that the dream, which occurred every few days, stemmed from a childhood mistake he was ashamed of. Xia Tian reassured him, sharing her own mischievous childhood acts like stealing pocket money, to comfort him and explain that people who have nightmares are often kind and concerned about others.
She then revealed she had taken on a significant guesthouse renovation project, which meant she would have less time for him. Guan Xin, understanding her passion, encouraged her to pursue what she loved, assuring her he didn't mind. Their conversation ended with an exchange of "I love you"s. The next day, Xu Zehao's "unique" collaboration method was revealed: he and his assistant, Yu Hui, moved into Xia Tian's studio.
Xia Tian found it frustrating, noting she had never seen a client work from the contractor's office before. Xiao Song, however, explained it was Xu Zehao's usual practice. Donghao questioned Xia Tian about her late return the previous night, suspecting she was with Guan Xin, and playfully warned her against showing off her relationship. Xu Zehao quickly set a tight deadline, compressing a two-week design draft into six days, requiring everyone to work late.
Despite his demanding demeanor, he softened when he learned Xia Tian was hungry, immediately ordering food, including extra chicken soup for her. When Xia Tian developed a slight cold, Xu Zehao offered her his jacket, but she declined, emphasizing the inappropriate nature of their relationship given their current working dynamic and mentioning she couldn't have chicken soup due to her cold. Guan Xin called, expressing concern about her cold and offering to visit her or bring her home-cooked food.
Xia Tian, however, gently turned him down, claiming the client was providing all meals and she was too busy. Meanwhile, Xiao Song discussed Xu Zehao with Yu Hui, who revealed Xu Zehao hadn't dated anyone in five years since his breakup with Xia Tian. Xiao Song was thrilled to discover Yu Hui had been single for thirty years, finding a "kindred spirit" in their shared "single" status.
Xia Tian's subsequent design proposals were met with harsh criticism from Xu Zehao, who dismissed most of her work except for the first sentence. When Xia Tian, exhausted, asked for help or a break, Xu Zehao pressed her to remember her earlier promise to meet all client demands, reasonable or not, forcing her to grudgingly address him as "Client Daddy." Guan Xin, still worried about Xia Tian's cold, wanted to visit her.
Donghao frantically tried to deter him, first suggesting "distance makes the heart grow fonder," then telling him to call Xia Tian, who was asleep and didn't answer. Donghao then spun a fantastical tale about Xia Tian craving 400g female crabs from Yangcheng Lake to send Guan Xin on a long trip to Weishan Lake. Guan Xin almost fell for it until he remembered Xia Tian's cold, realizing she couldn't eat crabs.
He decided to get her seafood congee instead, but then grew suspicious, confronting Donghao about what he was hiding. The next morning, Xu Zehao woke everyone up with a blaring loudspeaker, loudly proclaiming "Xia Tian, wake up! Xia Tian, go to work!" Xia Tian emerged from her room in her homewear, to Xu Zehao's amusement and teasing about her appearance.
He then refused Xiao Song's request for a half-day off for "personal affairs," insisting that during the tight schedule, any personal matter affecting work was his concern unless the design concept was finalized that day. When Xu Zehao criticized the studio's living room as messy and lacking design, suggesting it reflected Xia Tian's poor taste in men, Xia Tian retorted that the living room was reserved for loved ones, implying Xu Zehao was not one of them.
This comment sparked an idea in Xu Zehao. The trio began to passionately discuss the concept of the guesthouse. They realized their previous focus on practicality overlooked the emotional aspect. Xia Tian eloquently articulated that a guesthouse should feel like a home, filled with warmth and emotional connection, especially for young people living alone who lack social interaction.
They decided to incorporate "tolerance and healing" into the design, creating a space where people could naturally find communication and love, aiming to build a truly unique guesthouse. Just as they found their new direction, Xiao Song discovered that Donghao had failed to prevent Guan Xin from coming. Panicked, Xia Tian instructed Xiao Song to make Xu Zehao "disappear immediately" while she quickly went to get ready.
Xiao Song attempted to get Xu Zehao to leave by faking menstrual cramps and claiming Xia Tian was also experiencing them. Xia Tian, however, accidentally revealed that her period had ended yesterday. Xia Tian then tried another tactic, claiming her mother was arriving, but Xu Zehao wanted to greet her. Desperate, Xia Tian put on a mask and insisted she had a severe cold, offering masks to everyone.
Finally, Xia Tian firmly told Xu Zehao that their work was done for the moment and he had no right to supervise her private life 24/7. Xu Zehao, seemingly understanding, left with Yu Hui. As he drove away, Xu Zehao mused to Yu Hui that Xia Tian was not tired, but rather "afraid of the chemistry between us." Moments after Xu Zehao left, Guan Xin arrived with seafood congee.
Xia Tian feigned surprise and gratitude, briefly describing her "picky, bad-tempered client with a long face." Guan Xin then noticed a notebook left behind, which contained a drawing of Xia Tian. He innocently asked Xia Tian about the client's personality, further piquing his suspicions. Xu Zehao, having remembered he left his important notebook, quickly returned to the studio.
He saw Xia Tian with Guan Xin, prompting a flash of memory where he had once made her a terrible bowl of congee, which she had still appreciated. Xia Tian immediately enveloped Guan Xin in a tight hug, positioning him with his back to Xu Zehao, hoping he wouldn't see her ex. But Xu Zehao, wanting his notebook, stepped forward, accidentally bumping the door. Guan Xin turned around, finally seeing Xu Zehao.
Xia Tian awkwardly introduced them, quickly explaining that Xu Zehao was her client and that they were collaborating because he had "forgiven" her for a past incident. Xu Zehao reiterated he was there for his notebook, which Guan Xin, holding the one with Xia Tian's drawing, presented to him.
Episode 5 Recap
When Guan Xin showed Xu Zehao the notebook with Xia Tian's portrait, asking if it was his, Xu Zehao denied it, claiming he didn't know where it went. Both men felt an instant rivalry, their intuitions telling them the other was more than just a polite acquaintance. Guan Xin tried to end the awkward encounter by offering a single serving of seafood congee he had bought for Xia Tian.
Xu Zehao initially accepted but then stated he had already eaten, which Guan Xin used as an opportunity to politely dismiss him and end the awkwardness, asking him to take care of Xia Tian in future. After Xu Zehao left, Xia Tian tearfully apologized to a visibly angry Guan Xin for not disclosing that Xu Zehao was her client, explaining she was afraid of him overthinking it.
Guan Xin was frustrated, feeling he was always the last to know about Xu Zehao's repeated reappearances in her life—from losing her phone and staying at his place to now working with him. Xia Tian offered to terminate the contract, but Guan Xin stopped her, though he expressed his annoyance at her secrecy. Xia Tian assured him that her coming to him proved she had nothing to hide, and that seeing him had already improved her cold.
She admitted her fault but urged him to stop arguing, which made Guan Xin relent, saying he couldn't stay angry with her. Xu Zehao, meanwhile, searched for Guan Xin online, feeling a competitive urge. He saw numerous positive reviews, including one expressing a desire to marry Guan Xin, which he scoffed at. He privately questioned if Guan Xin's good looks allowed him to "cheat and lie" and go on "blind dates" behind Xia Tian's back, deeming him a playboy.
Xu Zehao reaffirmed his belief that his financial success was crucial, as it allowed him to become Xia Tian's Party A. Later that night, Xu Zehao called Xia Tian, and then appeared at her apartment, claiming to have "remembered" that the notebook Guan Xin showed him was indeed his, but that the lighting in her studio distorted its color. He then invited her to dinner the next day, fabricating a need to visit a design-oriented store for project inspiration.
Xia Tian reluctantly agreed for work, but laid down three rules: he must inform her before visiting, refrain from talking nonsense to her boyfriend, and keep their interactions strictly professional. Xu Zehao jokingly added a fourth rule: "see you tomorrow." Xia Tian confessed to Xiao Song that her life felt like a "spy show."
Xiao Song joked that Xia Tian's encounters with Xu Zehao, culminating in him becoming her client, resembled an idol drama and that they were making a fool of Guan Xin. Donghao explained that men are sensitive to rivals, warning that Guan Xin should be told about Xu Zehao's true identity, especially since they would continue to work with him.
Xia Tian, however, after considering telling Guan Xin, decided against it, insisting they keep Xu Zehao's identity a secret to protect Guan Xin's pride. Xiao Song, eager to borrow a sexy dress from Xia Tian for a "housewarming" with her junior fellow, promised to keep the secret. Guan Xin visited the coffee shop where Lu Xi works. He picked up his Americano and tried a cake she had made.
Lu Xi explained her diverse skills, from baking and making coffee to doing nail art and delivering food, were all to save money to learn recording, which she described as a "healing thing." Noticing a scar on her arm, Guan Xin offered to help her apply for a grant to remove it, mentioning it could even be free. He gave her his business card, and Lu Xi agreed to meet him at the hospital after work.
Moments later, as Guan Xin stepped out of the coffee shop, he saw Xia Tian and Xu Zehao having lunch together. He called Xia Tian, who openly confirmed she was with Xu Zehao for a work meal, which eased his mind. During their meal, Xu Zehao tried to rekindle their past, claiming he had changed from five years ago.
Xia Tian firmly told him that five years had passed, that she was very satisfied with her current life and her relationship with Guan Xin, whom she described as "360-degree perfect" and her "most satisfying relationship," and that she had no desire to revisit the past. Despite Xia Tian's clear stance, Guan Xin, for his part, remained somewhat unable to fully let go of the situation, feeling a lingering sense of melancholy.
After their work lunch, Xia Tian intended to go to Guan Xin's hospital to surprise him. Xu Zehao, determined to accompany her, invented another excuse, claiming he needed to visit the hospital to inquire about a hair transplant. As they drove towards the hospital, Lu Xi met Guan Xin there, confirming she wanted to inquire about assistance for a young boy with a cleft lip and palate.
Guan Xin assured her that the child could receive a grant, potentially even free treatment. Overjoyed, Lu Xi embraced Guan Xin, thanking him profusely for helping the children at the welfare house. Xu Zehao, who saw this embrace as he drove Xia Tian past, quickly sped away before Xia Tian could witness it, making a false claim about a "no stop" sign. Xia Tian, familiar with the area, immediately suspected his intentions.
Xu Zehao then drove a long, circuitous route before dropping her off, only for Xia Tian to point out that there was no "no stop" sign after all, confirming his deception. Xia Tian rushed into the hospital only to discover that Guan Xin had already left for the day, leaving her frustrated that he hadn't replied to her messages. Meanwhile, Xu Zehao spotted Guan Xin and Lu Xi shopping for snacks at a supermarket.
He remembered Xia Tian's earlier glowing description of Guan Xin and silently fumed, calling Xia Tian a "fool" for believing Guan Xin was a "perfect man" while he was "two-timing" by "flirting with the patient." Xiao Song went for a "housewarming" dinner with her junior fellow, Tan Xu, but they ended up eating out. She gave him a swimsuit, hoping they could go to a hot spring together.
Tan Xu rejected the gift and the idea, stating that hot springs were for couples, and they were merely ordinary friends. Heartbroken, Xiao Song tried to convince herself that love wasn't everything and that she wasn't clingy. However, she later broke down crying in front of Xia Tian and Donghao, recounting all the "couple-like" activities she and Tan Xu had done in college and wondering if their relationship wasn't dating just because they "never slept together."
Donghao, in a show of support, grabbed her phone and pretended to call Tan Xu, posing as "Xiao Song's older brother," threatening him with his Taekwondo skills if he bothered Xiao Song again. Realizing Donghao wasn't making a real call, Xiao Song, feeling lied to, fiercely bit him. Xia Tian and Xiao Song's concept for the "healing guesthouse" was approved, earning praise for its "creative and unconventional" design.
Xu Zehao, though pleased, secretly felt Xia Tian "could do so much better" and shouldn't "settle for the status quo." Xia Tian caught Xu Zehao secretly searching for Guan Xin online. He awkwardly claimed it was a "Background Investigation" on Party B, which Xia Tian dismissed as a childish excuse, less believable than his "hair transplant" lie. Guan Xin then called, reminding Xia Tian of their 8 PM movie date.
Xia Tian informed Xu Zehao she would not work overtime that day. Xu Zehao, after initially allowing them to leave once their "performance targets" were met, found a detail in Xia Tian's presentation that needed adjustment and then identified a potentially plagiarized image, forcing her and Xiao Song to redo a section. This caused Xia Tian to run late for her movie.
After the revisions were finally approved, Xu Zehao offered to drive Xia Tian to the cinema, claiming he had a salon appointment nearby. Reluctantly, she accepted due to time constraints. Upon arrival, Xia Tian hurried into the cinema, not noticing Guan Xin, who was just emerging. Guan Xin confronted Xu Zehao, warning him not to drive Xia Tian anymore and accusing him of overstepping the boundaries of a client-designer relationship.
Xu Zehao retaliated by revealing he saw Guan Xin "cuddling with your patient," urging him to "clean up this mess" before Xia Tian found out. Guan Xin accused Xu Zehao of tracking him, which Xu Zehao denied, claiming it was a coincidence, then declared his intention to make them break up. Enraged, Guan Xin punched Xu Zehao, questioning if only Xu Zehao was allowed to "cheat" while he couldn't like Xia Tian. They exchanged blows, escalating into a full-blown fight. Xia Tian then rushed out of the cinema and, seeing Xu Zehao pinning Guan Xin against a car, intervened by punching Xu Zehao.
Episode 6 Recap
Xia Tian carefully applied medicine to Guan Xin's injured face, expressing her concern. Xu Zehao watched, feeling isolated and neglected before leaving. Xia Tian questioned Xu Zehao about why he struck. He defended himself, explaining that if he hadn't reacted, Guan Xin would have ended up in the hospital, and chided Xia Tian for hitting him with her high heel without asking for his side of the story.
Guan Xin then admitted he initiated the fight and advised Xu Zehao to avoid future altercations in front of Xia Tian. Xu Zehao readily agreed to face him anytime. Later, as Guan Xin drove Xia Tian home, he remained upset, resisting her attempts to charm him. He told her that nothing she could do would calm his anger immediately.
However, when Xia Tian started crying, Guan Xin immediately softened, comforting her and promising to keep his phone on all night in case she had nightmares. Xia Tian then asked why they fought, and Guan Xin claimed Xu Zehao had called her stupid and lazy. Xu Zehao, meanwhile, privately fumed over Xia Tian's treatment of him, comparing it to her past concern when he was injured.
Xia Tian and Xiao Song discussed Xu Zehao, with Xia Tian jokingly explaining that "EX" was short for "E Xin," meaning disgusting. Infuriated by Xia Tian's perceived favoritism towards Guan Xin and her warnings, Xu Zehao vowed to demonstrate what a true "client" was. He abruptly changed the meeting location for the guesthouse project to his own company, giving Xia Tian only twenty minutes' notice and stressing that it was a non-negotiable directive.
Xia Tian and Xiao Song found his behavior childish, and Donghao commented that such actions were typical male animal instinct when two men vied for the same woman. During the meeting, Xu Zehao deliberately picked apart Xia Tian's design proposal, which focused on preserving the old house's original layout, using old elm wood, and incorporating healing themes for each room.
He dismissed her concept as "showy but not practical" and "paper talks," questioning the rising cost of raw timber and the perceived "cheap and low-end" feel if materials were inferior. He also challenged the feasibility of mass production for individualized room themes. When Xia Tian tried to defend her budget, Xu Zehao scrutinized labor costs, suggesting her studio cover the difference and threatening to terminate their cooperation if future proposals weren't up to his standards.
Xiao Song expressed frustration at his capitalist mindset, which prioritized profit over their initial "ingenuous" vision. Later, Donghao tried to reassure Guan Xin that Xu Zehao wouldn't fire Xia Tian since the contract was signed, but Guan Xin, worried about the repercussions of his fight with Xu Zehao, insisted that Donghao keep a close eye on Xu Zehao to ensure Xia Tian wasn't unfairly treated.
Exasperated by Xu Zehao's persistent nitpicking and disrespect, Xia Tian challenged him to a game of ping-pong, declaring that the winner's proposal would be adopted. Xu Zehao scoffed at her confidence, but Xiao Song quickly texted Donghao for help, who arrived with Guan Xin. Xu Zehao mocked Xia Tian for bringing "somebody to help," suggesting she intended to engage in "relay battles."
Guan Xin confidently declared he was "good enough to beat" Xu Zehao alone and would play on Xia Tian's behalf. The match began with Guan Xin initially playing gently, leading Xu Zehao to boast. Guan Xin then challenged Xu Zehao's "simple smash," implying Xu Zehao wouldn't be able to handle a "gentle ball." As the game intensified, Guan Xin noticed Xu Zehao's sweaty hands and teasingly suggested he might have "Hyperhidrosis," offering treatment at his hospital.
Guan Xin eventually won the match point. True to his word, Xu Zehao accepted Xia Tian's proposal, though he cautioned her to make it "perfect." Afterward, Guan Xin confronted Xu Zehao, urging him to separate personal grudges from business matters, but Xu Zehao dismissed his advice and challenged him to another match, to which Guan Xin readily agreed.
Despite the ping-pong loss, Xu Zehao, to his staff's surprise, decided to personally cover the significant excess in Xia Tian's approved budget, all while continuing his ping-pong practice. The next morning, he arrived at Xia Tian's studio with breakfast, finding her asleep at her desk after working through the night. After Xia Tian looked in the mirror and commented on her "dark circles," Xu Zehao playfully teased her about staying up late, joking about needing a hair transplant himself.
He questioned why she wasn't working at his company, and Xia Tian explained that her design work required her to examine wood samples, which was more convenient at her studio than at his office. She confirmed she would attend the final report. As Xia Tian began to explain her ideas for subtly incorporating smart features, Xu Zehao simply stared, seeming distracted. Annoyed, she asked him to leave.
Standing outside her studio, Xu Zehao reflected on his conflicting emotions, admitting he now preferred Xia Tian's indifferent and aggressive demeanor to her former clingy self. He questioned whether he was falling in love with her again or merely acting out of possessiveness and jealousy, feeling "tortured" by his confusion.
Xiao Song, sitting in a car, broke down in tears because the person she liked didn't like her, lamenting that he hadn't called back after she expected him to, and had reneged on their movie plans. Yu Hui offered her his handkerchief, explaining his environmentalist stance. Still tearful, Xiao Song emphasized the importance of "releasing feelings reasonably" rather than bottling them up, affirming that life must continue despite heartbreak.
Meanwhile, Xia Tian, busy with her work, accidentally sent a text message intended for Guan Xin to Xu Zehao. The message, which invited "baby" to lunch at "Haitian No.1" the next day, overjoyed Xu Zehao, who believed it was an invitation for him. Observing Yu Hui's apparent interest in Xiao Song, Xu Zehao advised him to abandon hope, stating that Xiao Song and Donghao were "childhood friends" and "destined to be together."
Excited by Xia Tian's supposed lunch invitation, Xu Zehao promptly canceled all his meetings for that day. The next day, Guan Xin, having not received any message from Xia Tian, arrived at her studio. Xiao Song informed him that Xia Tian had already left for "their usual restaurant" for a date with him. Guan Xin, confused, confirmed he had received no message from Xia Tian.
Simultaneously, Xia Tian, dressed up, waited at Haitian No.1 and was surprised when Xu Zehao arrived instead of Guan Xin. Realizing her mistake, she apologized for sending the "baby" text to the wrong person. Xu Zehao, though initially crestfallen, playfully chided her for being so generous with her current boyfriend, contrasting it with the hamburgers she used to treat him to. He then made excuses for his ping-pong loss, blaming a wrist injury and a busy schedule.
Xia Tian dismissed his excuses as childish, insisting he accept his defeat according to the agreed rules. She then warned him to be careful, reminding him that their past sleepover was a delicate matter, and she did not want Guan Xin to grow suspicious. As they walked to collect their food, Xu Zehao spotted Guan Xin entering the restaurant. Panicked, he quickly pulled Xia Tian behind a pillar, leaving her flustered and wondering what to do.
Episode 7 Recap
At the restaurant, Xia Tian and Xu Zehao, startled by Guan Xin's unexpected arrival, hid under a table. Xu Zehao suggested Xia Tian go ahead, planning to sneak away himself. However, realizing his phone was still on the table, he had no choice but to emerge and face Guan Xin. Xia Tian quickly apologized to Guan Xin, blaming her busy schedule and a demanding client for mistakenly sending him a message meant for Xu Zehao.
Xu Zehao interjected, calling her excuse clumsy and accusing her of making him look foolish. As Xia Tian went to get more food, Xu Zehao and Guan Xin engaged in a war of words and childishly started a competition to see who could eat more, until they were both too full. Guan Xin and Xia Tian attempted to break the strange atmosphere, but only made it more awkward.
Xu Zehao then challenged Guan Xin, remarking on the unusual number of coincidences lately, implying they might be fate. Guan Xin affirmed his right to like Xia Tian but urged Xu Zehao to restrain himself, concerned that a client pursuing a partner would inconvenience Xia Tian's work. Xu Zehao questioned if Guan Xin was afraid Xia Tian would waver, but Guan Xin stated his only concern was Xia Tian’s comfort at work.
He also brought up Xu Zehao's unexplained presence at the hospital, which Xu Zehao dismissed as a misunderstanding and scoffed at the idea of having told Xia Tian about it. After Xia Tian returned and tried to ease the tension by discussing work, Xu Zehao, claiming he was full, departed. Guan Xin then asked Xia Tian to maintain her distance from Xu Zehao outside of work, admitting he couldn't maintain his composure whenever Xu Zehao was around.
Xia Tian playfully apologized and offered a kiss to appease him. Later, Xu Zehao and Guan Xin coincidentally met at a pharmacy, both purchasing stomach medicine. Xu Zehao, buying a box identical to Guan Xin’s, inquired if Guan Xin had also overeaten. Guan Xin claimed the medicine was for a friend, then playfully told Xu Zehao to guess his reason for being there.
This encounter triggered a poignant flashback for Xu Zehao, recalling when Xia Tian had lovingly cared for him during a stomachache, bringing medicine and offering comfort, making his pain vanish just by her presence. He remembered telling her that even her "little head" helped him sleep. Now, he felt a profound loneliness. Meanwhile, Guan Xin spoke with Lu Xi, a doctor, arranging a meeting to discuss a cleft lip and palate boy's surgical repair plan.
Later, in their meeting, Lu Xi outlined the complex three-stage procedure, which included removing scars, lifting the philtrum, possibly using ear cartilage, and later applying laser therapy to fully eliminate any remaining marks. Lu Xi assured Guan Xin she would support the boy throughout his treatment and then offered to treat Guan Xin to dinner. Just then, Guan Xin received a message from Xia Tian saying she was staying at his place that night.
Confident he had enough time, Guan Xin accepted Lu Xi's invitation, sending a quick message to Xia Tian that he had an appointment and would try to return early. At Guan Xin’s apartment, Xia Tian, weary of secrecy, decided to reveal that Xu Zehao was her ex-boyfriend. While tidying, she found a takeaway receipt from "Seashore House" dated November 1st, the day she and Xu Zehao had encountered Guan Xin.
A call with Xiao Song, who mentioned she was out to lunch "with Mr. Xu," confirmed Xia Tian’s suspicion that Guan Xin had indeed seen them. She wondered why he hadn't said anything. Guan Xin enjoyed dinner with Lu Xi at an upscale restaurant, observing that Lu Xi was still "cheerful and optimistic." Back home, Xia Tian greeted Guan Xin, noting his late return, his change of clothes, and the lingering scent of perfume.
When asked about his dinner companion, Guan Xin lied, claiming he had met with "a junior fellow" for a medical consultation, someone Xia Tian didn't know. Xia Tian's suspicions were confirmed when she found a message on his phone from "Running Deer" (Lu Xi), thanking him for dinner and suggesting skewered food for their next outing. Confronting him, Xia Tian challenged his lie, noting Lu Xi's name and avatar didn’t suggest a male.
When Guan Xin playfully described Lu Xi as "beautiful, good in shape, youthful, and with a pretty face," Xia Tian became serious, revealing she knew he had seen her and Xu Zehao at the restaurant. She pressed him on why he hadn't confronted her, arguing that honest arguments were preferable to silence, which made her feel he thought she was "gullible." She then firmly stated she didn't want him dining with "that deer" anymore.
Guan Xin, pleased by her jealousy, admitted he had held back to avoid being "super selfish" and causing issues for her work. Xia Tian, in turn, reassured him that her interactions with Xu Zehao were purely professional and would cease once their project concluded, promising they would "never see each other again" thereafter. At work, the tension between Xia Tian and Xu Zehao remained palpable.
Xu Zehao relentlessly criticized her design proposals, deeming elements like the table "too cold," the sofa fabric "too showy," and a screen placement problematic for blocking sunlight. He demanded reworks, disparaging their efforts as merely "like something that a college graduate would do," lacking professionalism. Xia Tian, though visibly frustrated, agreed to modify the proposal "until he was satisfied," but firmly asserted her right to respect, reminding him that "even as Party B, I also need respect."
Xu Zehao then instructed Mr. Yu to convey to Xia Tian that clients also deserved respect and not to be interrupted. Mr. Yu later revealed to Xia Tian that Xu Zehao was under significant pressure from his superiors regarding the project's progress and was pushing them hard to "make something to prove yourself." He also mentioned Xu Zehao had an important document for her.
When Xia Tian returned, Xu Zehao demanded an apology for the embarrassing restaurant incident, stating he couldn't get past her sending the wrong message. Xia Tian, to his surprise, simply said, "I am sorry." He then warned her not to "embarrass me in front of your boyfriend" again, clarifying he was "not obligated to act with" her, and handed her a document containing reference pictures.
As Xia Tian tied her hair, Xu Zehao found himself transported back in time, recalling a tender moment where they had shared an expensive Civet cappuccino, a symbol of their past efforts to save money. These recurring memories of Xia Tian infuriated him, as he confessed internally that the days following their breakup hadn't been "that easy as I said before."
He desperately tried to reach Xia Tian by phone, but she didn't answer, leading him to wonder if she had blocked him, intensifying his frustration. Despite the ongoing friction, Xia Tian’s revised proposal was finally met with approval. Mr. Yu seized the opportunity to suggest Xu Zehao treat the team for their hard work. Xu Zehao agreed, announcing that it was "on me today," and specifically praised Xia Tian for her excellent work.
Later, at a KTV gathering, Xiao Song toasted Mr. Yu, affectionately describing him as "very old-fashioned but very serious" and a "very nice guy" who would surely be "rewarded" with a "peaceful life." During a game of truth or dare, Xia Tian initially chose "truth," but quickly switched to "dare" when asked to reveal her first boyfriend’s name and their first date location.
Her dare was to sing a love song with the person of the opposite sex on her right, which happened to be Xu Zehao. As Xu Zehao enthusiastically selected "Love in Hiroshima," Xia Tian excused herself to answer a call from Guan Xin, telling him, "See you later then." A visibly inebriated Xu Zehao followed her out, pleading, "Xia Tian, please come back. There are some things I've figured out now."
Despite her suggestion he was drunk, he insisted he was "serious," acknowledging he would likely "regret what I said tonight" but felt compelled to speak. He confessed, "Xia Tian, I fall for you again. No. I. . . I fall in love with you again." He realized his past affection had been "far from enough" because he had never felt "as miserable and inferior" or "missed you as much as I do right now."
He finally understood the pain she had expressed during their relationship, concluding that "the person who loves more suffers more." He described his current agony as a "hellish torment" before stumbling back into the private room, leaving a tearful Xia Tian standing alone outside. A short while later, as Xu Zehao looked towards the open door of the private room, Xia Tian reappeared, beaming, and holding Guan Xin's hand. They entered the room together, radiating happiness, a sight that filled the others with envy.
Episode 8 Recap
Xia Tian and Guan Xin walked into the private room side by side, drawing envious glances from everyone. Xu Zehao watched them, feeling annoyed as they were surrounded by friends. He wished he could just drink himself into a stupor, feeling he couldn't stand being there any longer. While Xia Tian was in the restroom, Xu Zehao and Guan Xin, fueled by alcohol, began to "pour out their hearts" to each other, marveling at their shared fate.
They drank bottle after bottle until they woke up the next day. It turned out that when Xia Tian returned from the restroom the previous night, she found the private room in chaos. Xu Zehao and Guan Xin, both heavily intoxicated, were calling each other "brother" and dancing. They even took a pair of dice as a token of their newfound brotherhood. The next morning, Xu Zehao looked at the dice in his hand and chuckled, finding Guan Xin childish.
Guan Xin, waking up with a hangover, found a small lucky dog figurine beside him. It was a gift Xu Zehao had impulsively removed from his car and given to Guan Xin as they parted ways last night, noting Guan Xin was born in the year of the dog. Xu Zehao tried to justify his behavior, thinking that anyone could get drunk. As for his confession to Xia Tian last night, he dismissed it as drunken nonsense.
He convinced himself there was no way he could fall for a woman he had already broken up with. Despite this, he privately considered terminating his contract with Xia Tian's studio, but Mr. Yu quickly dissuaded him, pointing out the value and cost-effectiveness of her designs. Mr. Yu also asked Xu Zehao if he had ever liked a woman with a boyfriend, to which Xu Zehao immediately responded with a firm no, calling the idea "psycho."
He then mentioned the character of The Great Gatsby, who loved a married woman and ended up dying, reaffirming his disdain for such "crazy" behavior. Mr. Yu suggested Xu Zehao might still be drunk and offered him a hangover cure, but Xu Zehao insisted he was fine, just wanting coffee. Later, while waiting to check timber at a mill, Xu Zehao saw Xia Tian approaching and hid behind his car.
Xia Tian greeted him cheerfully, stating she had blacked out last night and couldn't remember anything he had said or done. Both Xu Zehao and Xia Tian soon discovered problems with the timber. Mr. Zhang, the mill owner, tried to brazenly defend his products, claiming his old elm was ancient and had been naturally dried, contrasting it with Xia Tian's observation of fake fumigated wood.
Xia Tian critically questioned his sales philosophy, "do fair business, be cautious to flaws, be kind to others, sell nice products," implying he was trying to fool them. Xu Zehao directly terminated the partnership, noting that Mr. Zhang's words were like "Zhang Fei selling tofu, tough person but soft goods," meaning he was full of empty talk.
Xia Tian agreed, reasoning that if issues appeared at the first inspection, more problems would likely arise later, and they didn't have time to constantly check for problems. She also shrewdly pointed out that the lack of older, experienced workers in the "old" mill indicated deeper issues, which impressed Xu Zehao. Finding a rare common ground in their meticulous observations, Xu Zehao left Mr. Yu behind and decided to drive Xia Tian home.
Meanwhile, Dong Hao worried about Xia Tian finding out about Guan Xin and Lu Xi, as both were his good friends. Lu Xi messaged Guan Xin, inviting him for skewered food. Seeing this, Dong Hao promised Guan Xin he would keep it a secret, calling himself a "secret defender." Lu Xi took Guan Xin to a local greasy spoon for delicious and cheap skewered food.
Guan Xin surprised her with a set of recording equipment, which he specifically bought for her after she mentioned her interest in recording. Deeply touched, Lu Xi promised to treat him to afternoon tea for a month in return. As they ate, Lu Xi noted that Guan Xin, like her older brother, couldn't handle spicy food. She then asked if she could call him "Brother Guan Xin," which he agreed to.
Lu Xi shared that she had a non-biological brother she grew up with, and that she kept a scar on her hand hoping he would recognize her by it. She didn't realize that Guan Xin, who had recognized her, was pretending not to. She declared that if her brother recognized her and pretended otherwise, she would never forgive him, especially since he "replaced her life." She hoped he was living well.
Xia Tian requested Xu Zehao to drop her off at Guan Xin's hospital. Xu Zehao tried to seize the opportunity to talk, but failed and accidentally revealed that he hadn't been drunk last night. Xia Tian then confessed that she hadn't blacked out either and remembered everything he said. She expressed a sense of satisfaction, seeing him as the "humble party" now.
She declared she no longer cared for his feelings, as she cared only for her own and those of the person she loved—and that person was not him. Faced with Xia Tian's harsh words, Xu Zehao was speechless. Guan Xin didn't reply to Xia Tian's message, instead gazing at the bright and enthusiastic Lu Xi. As Xia Tian got out of Xu Zehao's car, a sudden heavy rain began to fall. She couldn't reach Guan Xin by phone or message.
Guan Xin was driving Lu Xi home. Seeing his phone ringing, Lu Xi sensed he had something urgent to attend to and quickly got out of the car. Guan Xin, however, rushed out after her to put his jacket over her shoulders before hurrying off to pick up Xia Tian. Xu Zehao, seeing the heavy rain, decided to go back for Xia Tian, but Guan Xin beat him to it.
As a dejected Xu Zehao drove away, he noticed Lu Xi nearby and felt puzzled. In the car with Guan Xin, Xia Tian spotted a receipt for recording equipment and simultaneously saw a grateful message from Lu Xi on Guan Xin's phone. Guan Xin's clumsy lies about buying the equipment for a "patient" and the lingering smell of hot pot on him made Xia Tian uneasy.
Guan Xin tried to explain that he ate hot pot because the patient invited him, and he didn't want to be disrespectful, knowing Xia Tian knew he typically avoided such "heavy tastes." Upon returning home, Xia Tian confronted Dong Hao about Guan Xin's activities that evening. Dong Hao, despite knowing everything, tried to protect Guan Xin, further angering Xia Tian. Xiao Song then punished Dong Hao, declaring him the "dishwasher slave" starting that day.
Xia Tian found many unfamiliar emojis on Guan Xin's phone and reflected on his uncharacteristic consumption of skewered food. She grew increasingly suspicious, feeling that while Guan Xin was generally a kind person, his generosity towards this new individual felt out of the ordinary. That night, Lu Xi hugged Guan Xin's jacket, her heart fluttering, and posted a "Wonderful Rainy Night" recording online, noting her feelings "wavered" like a "running deer."
The next morning, Xia Tian dressed in a powerful outfit, determined to confront her "love rival" at the coffee shop. Upon arriving, she observed Lu Xi, noting her height (168cm), weight (48kg), and age (24). Xia Tian concluded that Lu Xi was just an ordinary young woman, with nothing particularly special about her except her youth.
Episode 9 Recap
Xia Tian, determined to assess the situation, visited Lu Xi’s coffee shop, where Lu Xi greeted her warmly, offering various cakes and drinks. Xia Tian, however, asked for items unavailable, like cheesecake and hot Americano with soymilk, before leaving without a purchase. Later, she appeared at the nail salon where Lu Xi also worked. Recognizing Xia Tian, Lu Xi offered her services, but Xia Tian provocatively claimed to be a woodworker, questioning if any manicure would suit her.
When offered hand cream, Xia Tian refused, saying the grease would ruin her wood. Afterwards, Xia Tian internally conceded that Lu Xi was "very cute," noting it as her only good quality, and concluding that this type of seemingly "gentle and harmless" girl possessed an ambition that was easily seen through by another woman, judging her as "a bit too naive." Xia Tian also felt that Guan Xin was hiding something, making him unapproachable.
Meanwhile, Dong Hao urgently advised Guan Xin to resolve the issue with Lu Xi, recalling how Xia Tian had interrogated him about their relationship, feeling like he was "almost killed" by her intense questions. He confirmed to Guan Xin that he had covered for him, only praising Guan Xin's kindness and charitable work, without mentioning Lu Xi. Just then, Xia Tian arrived with lunch, prompting Dong Hao to feign an urgent call about Lisa needing double-eyelid surgery and swiftly escape.
Xia Tian presented Guan Xin with heavily spiced skewered food, claiming someone said he liked it, and insisted he eat it. Despite being visibly pained by the spice, Guan Xin ate several skewers, while Xia Tian revealed that she herself disliked spicy food and street stalls, subtly asserting her dominance. Elsewhere, Director Jian persistently tried to court Xia Tian’s mother, inviting her hiking. She rebuffed his advances, stating she slept soundly every night and didn't enjoy climbing.
He then attempted a tactic of asking for relationship advice about a younger woman pursuing him, but Xia Tian’s mother saw through it as "the most naive and simple way in relationship games," telling him pointedly that she didn’t like older men and calling him a "psycho." Undeterred, he declared her a "mountain he must climb." At a work meeting, Xia Tian arrived twenty minutes late and appeared distracted, offering disjointed feedback, which led Xu Zehao to call a break.
During the break, Xu Zehao expressed concern about her bringing personal feelings to work. He then directly asked if she had "found out about that girl." Xia Tian acknowledged she had "figured it out" but dismissed it as "just some misunderstanding." Xu Zehao advised her to confront Guan Xin directly rather than dwelling on doubts, implying she should reconsider the relationship if things weren't working out. Xia Tian, however, insisted that there was no problem between her and Guan Xin.
Guan Xin’s mother visited him, bringing him chicken soup. She had also visited the hospital for skincare injections for an upcoming class reunion. While wandering his office, Guan Xin's mother discovered a hidden childhood photo of Guan Xin and Lu Xi. Later, she confronted him, expressing worries about him being "too much burdened" by the past and urging him to "cherish the moment."
Guan Xin confessed he had reconnected with Lu Xi, who was living a difficult life, working multiple jobs alone. His mother became agitated, cautioning him against seeing Lu Xi and fearing that Lu Xi might recognize him. She then revealed the painful truth: they had adopted Guan Xin from the orphanage but had not adopted Lu Xi, cutting short her explanation by saying, "Each one has his fate."
Guan Xin contemplated telling Xia Tian about his past, especially since they planned to marry, but his mother vehemently opposed it, assuring him it was "not necessary." Later, Xu Zehao called Dong Hao for a drink, pressing him for information about Guan Xin and Lu Xi. Dong Hao, feeling trapped, initially described Guan Xin as an "obedient puppy" completely devoted to Xia Tian, even claiming Guan Xin would "eat the hospital" if Xia Tian told him to.
But when Xu Zehao stated he had personally witnessed Guan Xin and Lu Xi "hugging," Dong Hao was left speechless. Lu Xi contacted Guan Xin by phone, asking if she could return his borrowed jacket since she was making a delivery nearby. Guan Xin invited her over, remembering her previous comment about often skipping meals or eating late-night street food. Following Xu Zehao’s advice to confront Guan Xin, Xia Tian also arrived at Guan Xin's apartment by taxi.
Lu Xi, at the door, recognized Xia Tian from the coffee shop and nervously asked if Xia Tian misunderstood anything about her. Xia Tian declared herself Guan Xin's girlfriend, stating Lu Xi shouldn't be there. Guan Xin opened the door, pulling Lu Xi inside while accidentally blocking Xia Tian from view. Lu Xi immediately alerted him to Xia Tian's presence. Entering, Xia Tian saw two bowls of noodles on the table, her anger flaring.
She sarcastically invited them to eat, telling them to pretend she wasn't there. Lu Xi, uncomfortable, tried to explain it was her first time at Guan Xin's and she didn't know about dinner, just that she usually worked hard. Xia Tian cynically praised Guan Xin for being a "gentle, considerate, and kind man" for buying "expensive gifts" (referring to the recording equipment) and making a home-cooked meal, prompting an embarrassed Lu Xi to leave.
Alone, Xia Tian accused Guan Xin of "cheating." Guan Xin vehemently denied it, explaining Lu Xi was an orphan with no family, struggling alone, a "different level" of hardship compared to Xia Tian, who had family, a business, and friends. Xia Tian dismissed his explanation. He promised not to cook for Lu Xi again, and Xia Tian's only demand was that if he helped Lu Xi, "I must know."
She expressed her unwillingness to become a "crazy, insecure woman who always checks her boyfriend's phone." She also warned him to be less openly affectionate with other women at the hospital to avoid misunderstandings. Guan Xin promised to only smile at her. As Guan Xin drove Xia Tian home, he sweetened her with loving words. This intimate moment was witnessed by Xu Zehao, who felt a pang of silent resentment, recalling Xia Tian's earlier harsh words to Lu Xi.
The next day, Lu Xi texted Guan Xin, asking if the previous night's incident had been resolved and if his girlfriend was still upset. Guan Xin replied, reassuring her that it was a misunderstanding and apologized on Xia Tian's behalf for her behavior. After sending the message, he mysteriously deleted it, wondering why he had done so. Later, at a group lunch with colleagues and Xu Zehao, Xiao Song ordered Tie Guanyin tea.
The familiar aroma transported Xu Zehao back in time, reminding him of Xia Tian's father. A colleague at the table lamented her boyfriend's gift of a three-year beauty salon membership, seeing it as a sign of relationship "burnout" and his declining interest, citing his changing views on her appearance and even suggesting a nose job.
Xia Tian, agreeing with the colleague, surprisingly spoke about her own first relationship (with Xu Zehao), concluding that this was simply "burnout," where "freshness passed, and feelings changed." This commentary visibly unnerved Xu Zehao. After lunch, Xu Zehao followed Xia Tian, attempting to clarify that his past actions were not as bad as she portrayed and that he was genuinely busy before their breakup.
Xia Tian retorted that "memory is a personal thing" and questioned if he was truly sure they had "many happy memories." She accused him of being "narcissistic" and warned him not to assume she was still the "easily bullied Xia Tian." She advised him not to be "too sure about everything, especially those in the past."
As she left, Xu Zehao asked Xiao Song to deliver a packet of Tie Guanyin tea to "Xia Tian's dad," mentioning it was his favorite. Xiao Song was stunned, informing Xu Zehao that Xia Tian's father had passed away a month before his breakup with Xia Tian. Xu Zehao's reaction suggested genuine shock, as if hearing it for the first time.
Xiao Song was deeply disturbed by his apparent memory lapse, telling Xia Tian later that she couldn’t believe he would forget such a significant event while remembering a small detail like his favorite tea. Xia Tian pondered whether he was simply "too busy to remember."
Episode 10 Recap
Xia Tian's mother finally resolved her feelings and visited the illegitimate child of Xia Tian's deceased father. She found the child quite pathetic and, after a brief interaction where the child mentioned his grandma's financial difficulties regarding soccer shoes, commented to a persistent Director Jian about the child's plight. Director Jian expressed satisfaction, believing Xia Tian's mother no longer resented her late husband.
However, Xia Tian's mother clarified her visit was unrelated to her husband, noting that while he had a strange temper, he wasn't truly a bad person. She then sternly told Director Jian to stop bothering her and invading her privacy, demanding he keep his distance, which he reluctantly did. At the hospital, Lu Xi brought afternoon tea for Guan Xin, including his favorite Americano and a freshly baked cake.
Guan Xin politely refused the gifts, explaining that the hospital's busy environment often led to such food being thrown away, and asked her not to bring items in the future. Disheartened, Lu Xi first wanted to ask if she could continue bringing afternoon tea, but then shifted and asked about the treatment plan for another child. Guan Xin, checking his schedule, offered to discuss it the following Wednesday or Friday.
As Lu Xi dejectedly took her untouched gifts, Guan Xin reassured her that he would always assist her with surgery-related matters. Xia Tian visited her mother, bringing some money to repay a debt. Her mother advised her to keep the money for her upcoming marriage to Guan Xin, but playfully insisted that any remaining debt would be collected after the wedding. Xia Tian's mother then directly asked if she was truly ready for marriage.
Xia Tian admitted her hesitation, feeling that neither she nor Guan Xin had fully revealed their true selves. She confessed that she had never told Guan Xin about her father's death and that he was unaware of her studio's financial situation. Xia Tian believed that honesty was crucial in marriage. Her mother, acknowledging Xia Tian's pride, cautioned her against allowing it to hinder trust, questioning whether genuine love would truly care about such vulnerabilities.
Meanwhile, Xu Zehao, still grappling with the recent revelation of Xia Tian’s father’s death, struggled to reconcile this with his own memory. He looked at the cherry wood carving Xia Tian had made for him, recalling her saying it symbolized "the one and only love."
He vividly remembered their past arguments, including an instance where Xia Tian accused him of prioritizing work and hobbies over her after he was late and unreachable, making her feel easily bullied, to which he playfully responded that was why he liked her. He clung to the belief that he couldn't have forgotten something so significant, wondering if Xia Tian had deliberately chosen to forget telling him.
Seeking clarity, Xu Zehao confronted Xia Tian, asking her on the phone why she hadn't informed him about her father's passing. Xia Tian insisted she had, but he had simply forgotten. Xu Zehao conceded he remembered other past details, like the marshmallows and hot dog stand mentioned at yesterday's dinner, and apologized for his past negligence and for overlooking her when they broke up five years ago, feeling she had become part of his habits.
However, he firmly denied any recollection of her father's death. Xia Tian challenged his certainty, recalling how she had called him multiple times, crying, after her father’s funeral, desperately needing him, but he had dismissed her calls, citing overtime work. She questioned if he ever bothered to ask why she called, asserting that he wouldn’t remember which call it was even if she told him.
Xia Tian declared that dwelling on the past was pointless as their relationship had ended completely five years prior. Xu Zehao, however, defiantly insisted that she would eventually return to him, claiming he never failed at anything he set his mind to. Xia Tian retorted that he would soon learn the world didn't revolve around him and that she knew who she truly liked now, reminding him that no relationship is constant, just as theirs had ended.
During their argument, Xu Zehao accidentally cut his hand on a nail. As Xia Tian bandaged his wound, she berated him for his characteristic recklessness and lack of foresight, just like in the past, urging him to get a tetanus shot as the nail was likely rusty. Xu Zehao, captivated by her concern, unexpectedly kissed her. Xia Tian angrily ordered him to leave, flatly refusing his invitation for dinner.
After he departed, Xia Tian fiercely wiped her mouth, mentally concluding that Xu Zehao would never comprehend true love, tolerance, or understanding. Xu Zehao, for his part, internally argued that he had only expressed liking her again, not love, believing that she was overthinking things and that he was indeed capable of tolerance and understanding if given another chance. Separately, Lu Xi visited a charity house, bringing snacks for the children.
She spoke with Ms. Zhang, who introduced her to Lili, a new, introverted child with a scar on her forehead. Ms. Zhang explained Lili's tragic backstory: her parents were in jail for selling fake drugs, and Lili had been injured while trying to protect her mother from her drunk father, who had attempted to set fire to their kitchen. Deeply moved, Lu Xi called Guan Xin, explaining Lili's plight and requesting a meeting to discuss her situation.
Guan Xin agreed to meet her at the hospital after work the following day to learn more. At a dinner with Xia Tian, Donghao, Xiao Song, and Xia Tian's mother, Director Jian attempted to impress Xia Tian's mother by offering her beef in sauce, claiming it was from a female hiking teammate who harbored unrequited love for him, which he had "determinedly" rejected. Uninterested, Xia Tian's mother dismissed his story.
Director Jian then tried to engage her in a "professional and personal question," complimenting her, but Xia Tian, Donghao, and Xiao Song, visibly uncomfortable with his continued advances, quickly made their excuses and left, leaving the two alone.
Director Jian pressed Xia Tian's mother about his "sexy brain" (a compliment from his female teammate), but she scoffed, telling him to accept he was ugly and that his brain was "too simple," adding that only his face was "more decent" in comparison. She ridiculed his "cheekiness" in pursuing her, to which he retorted that one couldn't fall in love without being cheeky. Xiao Song, planning to confront Tan Xu at their university reunion, intended to make a grand entrance.
Upon arriving late, she discovered Tan Xu had brought his girlfriend, Alice, and they had been dating for over half a year, having joined the same company. Overwhelmed and feeling used by Tan Xu, who had relied on her for chores like feeding his fish and cleaning his house while secretly dating Alice, Xiao Song struggled internally to expose his "scummy behavior."
When prompted by other classmates to share his "dark history," she chickened out, hastily fabricating an excuse about another engagement and left the party. In the taxi, fueled by resentment, she changed her destination from "Binhai Road" to "Jianshe Road" (Tan Xu's apartment area) and, with a stone, savagely scratched his car, much to the taxi driver's shock.
She vented to the driver about feeling exploited and discarded, having done so much for him only to be told they were nothing to each other. The driver sympathized, lamenting the wasting of a young girl's youth by being strung along. The next morning, Xiao Song, uncharacteristically, dragged Donghao out for a run. During their jog, Tan Xu called on the phone, accusing her of scratching his car and labeling her a "psycho" who stalked him and retaliated after rejection.
He presented video evidence of her vandalism. Enraged, Xiao Song ripped off her shoe and began beating Tan Xu, demanding he return all the gifts she had given him. Donghao intervened, separating them and apologizing to Tan Xu, offering to pay for the damages and even free medical checkups at his hospital. Tan Xu accepted the private settlement but warned Donghao to keep Xiao Song away from him permanently.
Afterward, Donghao gently scolded a crying Xiao Song, calling her "stupid, crazy, and psycho" for liking such a man. He then took her out drinking to console her, where a heavily intoxicated Xiao Song, ranting about how all men were bad and questioning her own attractiveness, caused a scene, even trying to take off her clothes.
She lashed out at Donghao, who was repeatedly mistaken for a villain trying to take advantage of her by other patrons and endured several slaps and accusations. Finally, getting her home, Xiao Song suddenly pulled Donghao close, declaring him "super handsome," a moment that sent his heart racing. He then went to get her some honey water.
Meanwhile, Xu Zehao, aware that Xia Tian had been avoiding him since their last intense conversation, used work as a pretext to visit her studio. Despite her cool demeanor, Xia Tian efficiently identified and marked the suitable wood samples for him for their B&B project. Xu Zehao admired her, even her anger.
As he prepared to leave, he informed her of his evening appointment with Guan Xin, suggesting she join them if she wished to prevent "uncontrollable situations," implying she would be responsible for any consequences if she didn't. Xia Tian was left speechless. Later that evening, Guan Xin was leaving the hospital after discussing Lili’s situation with Lu Xi. When Lu Xi's electric scooter ran out of battery, Guan Xin offered to drive her home.
However, he spotted Xia Tian in the distance. Recalling his previous promise to Xia Tian not to meet Lu Xi privately, Guan Xin quickly pulled Lu Xi into hiding. Unbeknownst to them, Xu Zehao, arriving to meet Guan Xin, witnessed the entire clandestine encounter, finding it highly amusing.
Episode 11 Recap
As Xia Tian approached, Guan Xin instinctively pulled Lu Xi aside, trying to hide. Seeing this, Xu Zehao stepped out of his car and deliberately revealed them to Xia Tian. Xia Tian was furious and demanded an explanation from both of them. Lu Xi, however, felt Xia Tian was being unreasonable, pointing out that Xia Tian had repeatedly come to her coffee shop and nail salon, disguised in sunglasses, to test and provoke her due to her suspicions.
Hearing this, Guan Xin became upset and aggressively questioned Xia Tian's actions, which deeply hurt Xia Tian and brought her to tears. Xu Zehao intervened on Xia Tian's behalf, but Guan Xin chose to pursue Lu Xi, leaving Xu Zehao to accompany a distraught Xia Tian for hotpot. As they ate, Xu Zehao suggested that Guan Xin's immediate decision to go with Lu Xi indicated he had feelings for the other girl.
Xia Tian disagreed, insisting that Xu Zehao didn't truly know Guan Xin. She believed Guan Xin was simply kind and considerate to everyone and that Lu Xi must have been in some kind of trouble. Xu Zehao, however, remained convinced that Guan Xin's actions were a "subconscious reflex" of his true feelings.
When Xu Zehao expressed his annoyance at being used as a pawn in Xia Tian's scheme, Xia Tian explained her reasoning: if she forgave Guan Xin too easily, he would take her for granted, just as "someone did in the past," implying Xu Zehao himself. She added that men are often ungrateful. Later, as Xu Zehao drove Xia Tian home, they saw Guan Xin waiting outside her house.
Xia Tian instructed Xu Zehao to drive past, wanting to "give him a hard time" and teach him a lesson. Xu Zehao questioned her resolve, but Xia Tian insisted. Guan Xin pursued their car on foot and called Xia Tian, but she ignored his calls and told Xu Zehao to drive them to the movies instead.
Inside the cinema, Xu Zehao wrestled with his own feelings, acknowledging that Xia Tian was using him to provoke Guan Xin, yet he found himself content just being with her, even in the role of unrequited love. After the movie, Xia Tian thanked Xu Zehao for his help, acknowledging his cooperation in her scheme.
She wryly remarked that his best quality was being less nice to others than he was to her, finding it preferable to someone who was kind to her but even kinder to others. Xia Tian reflected that Guan Xin's failure to stand by her, for the first time, might signify that perfect love is elusive and that both good and bad times are normal. Over the next week, Guan Xin and Xia Tian remained in a silent cold war.
Xia Tian stubbornly waited for Guan Xin to make the first move, believing that whoever initiated contact first would reveal their deeper affection. Meanwhile, at the studio, Xiao Song and Donghao debated the situation. Guan Xin called Xu Zehao, demanding he meet him that evening at a bar near Xu Zehao's company. Later, Guan Xin informed Donghao in person that he was going to meet Xu Zehao and explicitly told Donghao not to inform Xia Tian.
Donghao, however, immediately decided to share this information with Xia Tian, knowing Guan Xin likely wanted her to find out. That evening, Guan Xin and Xu Zehao met at the bar. They were immediately confrontational. Guan Xin questioned Xu Zehao about his relationship with Xia Tian, while Xu Zehao pressed Guan Xin about his connection to Lu Xi.
Guan Xin vehemently denied anything with Lu Xi, then passionately declared his deep love for Xia Tian, stating he couldn't live without her. Xu Zehao dismissed this as an exaggeration, asserting that no one is indispensable. Guan Xin accused Xu Zehao of never having truly loved someone, implying he couldn't understand such feelings.
When Xu Zehao playfully hinted that his feelings for Xia Tian were now uncertain, Guan Xin reiterated his unwavering love, explaining that he would pretend to be deceived if Xia Tian lied and let her win if she wanted, because her happiness was paramount. Guan Xin then raised concerns about Xu Zehao's familiarity with Xia Tian, noting that she seemed too comfortable expressing her true feelings to him, a stark contrast to how she usually behaved in front of others.
Finally, Guan Xin warned Xu Zehao to stay away from Xia Tian and their relationship. Xu Zehao mockingly asked if it was a request or a warning, and when Guan Xin confirmed it was a warning, Xu Zehao challenged him, asking what he would do if he didn't comply. Guan Xin replied that he didn't know what would happen, and Xu Zehao simply responded, "Good, I'll wait." Xia Tian called Xu Zehao, pressing him about his meeting with Guan Xin.
Xu Zehao, feigning arrogance, refused to be a "messenger" and hung up, telling her to ask Guan Xin herself. However, Xia Tian called back, apologizing for her tone and asking him to come to her studio because she needed to discuss something. Xu Zehao initially swore he wouldn't go, telling his driver to turn around multiple times as he battled his internal conflict, reminding himself not to be someone who is "on call at any hour."
Despite his strong resolve, he eventually conceded and directed his driver to take him to Xia Tian's studio. At the studio, Xia Tian and Xu Zehao discussed the project. They found themselves reminiscing about a type of wood, Hinoki, which had once symbolized "eternal love" for them. They reflected on their past relationship, acknowledging they were too young and immature, relying on "impulsive moments" rather than "the willpower to sustain love."
Xu Zehao then expressed deep regret, lamenting that Xia Tian had appeared in his life when he was too naive to understand her kindness or how to reciprocate it. He wished he could "switch with someone right now" (implying Guan Xin), vowing that if she were with him now, he would "hold her in the palm of his hand, cherish and love her, and never let her be wronged."
Xia Tian, dismissing his words as drunken ramblings, asked him again what he and Guan Xin had discussed. Xu Zehao maintained that his refusal to answer was a matter of "personal integrity." When Xia Tian questioned why he came if he wouldn't answer her, Xu Zehao turned her chair to face him and confessed, "To see you."
Episode 12 Recap
Xu Zehao departed from Xia Tian’s apartment, sarcastically remarking that his only reason for coming was to see her, but now, under the influence of alcohol, she didn’t even appear particularly attractive. He wondered aloud if she would worry about his safety if he were to be reckless on his way home, before concluding that he consistently exercised too much caution. Back in the living room, Xiao Song and Donghao had a conversation with Xia Tian.
Donghao, articulating their collective sentiment, suggested that Xia Tian’s recent actions might be somewhat inappropriate. He highlighted the disparity in their support systems: while Xia Tian had both Guan Xin and her friends, Guan Xin was isolated. Donghao advised her against immediate forgiveness but proposed that initiating reconciliation didn’t necessarily signify defeat.
He then offered his cynical perspective on love, asserting that while men might be devoted and accommodating when smitten, "eternal love" is an illusion, often succumbing to the "seven-year itch." Xiao Song attempted to lighten the atmosphere by offering Xia Tian a late-night snack. Xia Tian, however, admitted to feeling disappointed in herself for having resorted to investigating Guan Xin.
She resolved not to be the first to reach out, conceding that her initial certainty about her relationship with Guan Xin being unique and her last had wavered, leaving her with a disquieting sense that her love was no different from anyone else’s. Meanwhile, Guan Xin returned home, habitually checking for Xia Tian's shoes, harboring a secret hope that she might be playfully hiding in his closet, only to be disappointed that she hadn't come today.
To his surprise, Xia Tian then arrived, ringing the doorbell despite knowing the entry code. He playfully suggested she was providing time for someone inside to conceal themselves, a claim she dismissed. Xia Tian then confronted him, questioning when he had intended to call her, to which he insisted he was on the verge of doing so.
She explained her disappointment, feeling that his actions had caused her to doubt her paramount importance in his heart, and stressed the necessity of addressing any misunderstandings first. Guan Xin, relieved by her presence, readily agreed to her terms, provided she remained calm. Later that evening, Lu Xi ventured alone to the seaside, recording the ambient sounds of the waves. She reflected that some individuals are gifts simply by their entry into one’s life, and nothing further should be desired.
She committed to focusing on aiding Lili with her scar. Concurrently, Guan Xin expressed his profound longing for Xia Tian and proposed a two-day excursion to the suburbs.
As they both searched for suitable destinations, they each received unexpected messages: Lu Xi requested Guan Xin accompany her to the Qingshan Charity House, explaining that Lili was apprehensive about her impending surgery, while Xu Zehao informed Xia Tian about a timber mill possessing the specific old elm wood she required for a project. Both agreed to their respective requests.
Guan Xin falsely informed Xia Tian (on the phone) that he would be attending a burn recovery seminar, whereas Xia Tian truthfully disclosed her visit to the timber mill. The following day, at noon, Guan Xin picked up Lu Xi, and Xu Zehao collected Xia Tian. By chance, both pairs converged at the same shopping mall. Inside, Lu Xi expressed her concern over the expensive children’s clothing for the welfare house.
Guan Xin, eager to assist, purchased several outfits, stating his desire to contribute, which further endeared him to Lu Xi. Elsewhere in the mall, Xu Zehao spotted Guan Xin and Lu Xi together. He quickly steered Xia Tian away, suggesting they visit an alternative store with more favorable reviews. During their lunch, Xu Zehao commented on Xia Tian's handbag, mistakenly believing it was a gift he had bought her with his first salary.
Xia Tian corrected him, reminding him that his initial earnings were used to buy her earrings on Valentine's Day. She clarified that the bag he admired was, in fact, an apology gift following three instances where he had stood her up. Xia Tian admitted to having discarded the earrings since, explaining her disinclination for reminders of past relationships. She mused that their once cherished memories had deteriorated within five years, persistently recalling that all beautiful things are transient.
While awaiting an elevator, Xia Tian and Xu Zehao unexpectedly encountered Lu Xi alone. A terse exchange ensued, with Lu Xi questioning the nature of Xia Tian and Xu Zehao’s joint presence, and Xia Tian responding with equal sharpness. Xu Zehao promptly escorted Xia Tian away, subtly criticizing Lu Xi as calculating. Xia Tian, however, observed that Lu Xi was carrying two milk teas, which intensified her suspicions.
She then considered Guan Xin's attire from earlier—unsuitable for a professional seminar and more like he was on vacation. She subsequently called Donghao (on the phone) to inquire if Guan Xin was at work for surgery. Donghao revealed that Guan Xin was absent and purportedly visiting his mother. This information, combined with Lu Xi carrying two milk teas and Guan Xin’s casual attire, heightened Xia Tian’s doubts about him attending a seminar.
She contemplated calling Guan Xin but ultimately refrained, fearing another argument, especially if Lu Xi were with him. Meanwhile, Guan Xin and Lu Xi arrived at the Qingshan Charity House. Guan Xin noted that it had been seventeen years since his last visit, and he experienced a profound sense of belonging. He effortlessly captivated the children, particularly Lili, who typically harbored shyness towards doctors.
He gave her a gift, tied her hair, and promised to make her scar vanish, then encouraged her to draw with him. Lili showed him a drawing of a blue sky. Ms. Zhang, a staff member at the welfare house, observed Lu Xi's affectionate gaze towards Guan Xin. Lu Xi confided that her feelings were unrequited, as Guan Xin was already in a relationship. Ms. Zhang subtly cautioned her that prolonged contemplation of something often intensifies the desire for it.
Back at Xia Tian's studio, Xiao Song was collaborating with Mr. Yu to consolidate data. Mr. Yu, recognizing their imminent completion, invited Xiao Song to the aquarium, presenting her with two complimentary tickets from his company. Xiao Song, enthusiastic, ascended to change and requested Donghao to zip up her dress, causing his heart rate to accelerate. Upon learning of her plans with Mr. Yu, Donghao insisted on joining, playfully pleading with her. The trio then proceeded to the aquarium.
There, both Mr. Yu and Donghao competed for Xiao Song's attention, from offering her beverages and snacks to engaging in a trivia contest about beluga whales. Donghao confidently described their diet and habitat but faltered when asked to distinguish their genders, much to Mr. Yu's amusement. Their good-natured rivalry persisted during feeding sessions and photo opportunities.
Perceiving Xia Tian's melancholic mood, Xu Zehao decided to postpone his timber mill meeting and take her to a familiar spot, hoping to lift her spirits. Xia Tian, still preoccupied, inquired if he had seen Guan Xin earlier, a question Xu Zehao, bound by a promise to Guan Xin, initially answered evasively. Xia Tian’s persistent unease prompted Xu Zehao to remind her that, from Lu Xi’s perspective, their own pairing might also appear questionable.
To alleviate her distress, Xu Zehao eventually disclosed what Guan Xin had revealed during a recent shared drink: that Guan Xin "only has her" and "cannot live without her," and that there was no romantic involvement between him and Lu Xi. Xia Tian’s demeanor visibly brightened, and Xu Zehao self-satisfiedly noted his own honesty compared to Guan Xin’s secrecy. They then proceeded to the timber mill.
Xia Tian, now in a more positive state, promptly identified the elm wood she required, cheerfully capturing photographs of it. Xu Zehao smiled, content to witness her renewed cheerfulness. He then playfully suggested she consider breaking up with Guan Xin, eliciting a sharp glance from her. He clarified his intention, explaining that in matters of affection, excessive clinging can sometimes lead to loss.
Finally, Xu Zehao drove Xia Tian to another nostalgic location—the very spot where she, he, and her late father used to pitch a tent and fish. However, upon their arrival, Xia Tian's mood drastically deteriorated. Overwhelmed by a vivid, traumatic flashback of her father's car accident, her lips turned pallid, and she struggled for breath, appearing on the verge of collapse. Alarmed, Xu Zehao frantically drove her towards the nearest hospital, narrowly averting a collision with an oncoming vehicle in his panicked haste.
Episode 13 Recap
Xia Tian's lips were pale, and her condition rapidly worsened before she eventually passed out in the passenger seat of Xu Zehao's car. Rushing to the nearest hospital, Xu Zehao learned from the doctor that Xia Tian had experienced a temporary fainting spell, likely due to extreme mental stress and pressure. The doctor asked if anything significant had occurred before her collapse.
Xu Zehao mentioned a minor driving accident but couldn't shake the feeling that her distress stemmed from the trauma related to her father's accident, a memory triggered earlier at their old camping spot. Reflecting on his past relationship with Xia Tian, Xu Zehao realized he had often dismissed her pleas for help, claiming to be busy with work, even during what might have been her most desperate times.
He lamented that despite countless "I love yous" during their five years together, he now understood he never truly knew what love was. Meanwhile, Guan Xin was at the welfare house and couldn't reach Xia Tian on the phone, growing concerned. Lu Xi offered to record the soothing sounds of the welfare house, suggesting they could help if he suffered from insomnia.
She also offered to record bird calls the next morning to make an alarm for him, noting how unique the acoustics were. Guan Xin, though distracted, found the sounds calming. He then asked Lu Xi about her life there and her feelings toward her older brother who had been adopted. Lu Xi confessed to a lingering resentment but ultimately understood her brother's decision, realizing that at 12, he would have comprehended the opportunity adoption offered for a better life.
She cherished a faint hope that he was thriving, even if he had forgotten her, though Guan Xin suggested he might not be doing well. In a flashback, a younger Guan Xin, then known as Xuan, was seen comforting a young Lu Xi, promising to become a doctor to heal the scar on her arm, which she sustained in a bicycle accident he was teaching her to ride.
Xuan, upon learning that Lu Xi's potential adoptive family had rejected her, was determined to pursue his dream of becoming a doctor for her sake and pleaded with his teacher to help him get adopted. Lu Xi, in the present, confided in Guan Xin that she intentionally kept her scar, hoping it would be a mark for her brother to recognize her by. She believed he must be living a wonderful life, having "replaced" hers.
Back at the hospital, Xia Tian awoke to find Xu Zehao sleeping by her bedside. Feeling weak, she only wanted to go home, and Xu Zehao agreed to take her after her IV drip was finished. As they arrived home, Guan Xin, who had been unable to reach Xia Tian and had just dropped off Lu Xi and Lili, was there. He immediately took Xia Tian from Xu Zehao, holding her protectively.
Xiao Song stepped in, officially warning Xu Zehao to stay away from Xia Tian, stating that Xia Tian had been under immense mental pressure since he re-entered her life, and she regretted taking on the project. She made it clear that she and Yu Hui would accompany Xia Tian on future factory visits. Guan Xin diligently cared for Xia Tian, making her porridge and tidying up. Outside, Xu Zehao reflected on the day.
Xia Tian sent him a thank you message, and after much hesitation, he replied to her. He questioned his own pursuit of Xia Tian, recognizing Guan Xin's deep affection and attentiveness towards her. He concluded that Guan Xin was undoubtedly better for Xia Tian and decided to distance himself from her life, feeling that his presence only brought her trouble. He resolved to act as an adult should with an ex: wish her happiness from afar.
His thoughts were interrupted by a call from Ms. An, his business partner, who announced her return in two days, but Xu Zehao showed little interest in making arrangements. Once Xia Tian felt better, her suspicions resurfaced. She secretly took Guan Xin's car keys and found a takeaway cup with lipstick marks and navigation history showing a route to Wandao Development Zone and Qingshan Welfare House—not a "seminar about burn recovery" as Guan Xin had claimed.
Startled by Xiao Song and Dong Hao, who had secretly followed her, Xia Tian expressed her frustration, realizing Guan Xin had lied again. Dong Hao pointed out that a welfare house seemed an unlikely place for a romantic rendezvous, but Xiao Song retorted that men could cheat anywhere. Back at home, Xia Tian confronted Guan Xin about his whereabouts.
He explained that he and Lu Xi had visited the welfare house to see children awaiting surgery, as they lacked family support and traveling to the hospital would be difficult. Xia Tian accused him of being kind and considerate to everyone except her. Guan Xin explained that he was withholding some information due to his mother's feelings, promising to tell her everything after discussing it with his mother.
He asked for her trust, asserting there was nothing romantic between him and Lu Xi. They argued, with Guan Xin pointing out Xia Tian's own frequent meetings with Xu Zehao. Xiao Song and Dong Hao nervously ate breakfast while the couple bickered. Guan Xin brought Xia Tian porridge in the bedroom, reassuring her that they would never break up and promising to only care about her.
They reconciled, accidentally spilling the porridge, then were later seen happily washing and airing bedsheets together in the sun, much to the amazement and envy of Xiao Song and Dong Hao, who couldn't believe they had made up so quickly after their intense argument. Later, Lili insisted that Lu Xi call Guan Xin to join them for hotpot. Lu Xi reluctantly called, but Guan Xin handed his phone to Xia Tian.
Xia Tian, identifying herself to Lu Xi, bluntly stated that Guan Xin was unable to join them because she and Guan Xin had just argued over her, and therefore he had to eat lunch with Xia Tian. She told Lu Xi to make her own lunch arrangements. Lu Xi was visibly angered by the call. Later, while Xia Tian was at work, she was greeted by Ms. An, an acquaintance.
Episode 14 Recap
Ms. An returned and immediately sought out Xia Tian, who she knew well. Ms. An directly told Xia Tian that she was in charge of the guesthouse project's design. She noted that working with an ex-boyfriend must have gone smoothly, implying Xu Zehao had indulged Xia Tian, which led to the project running over budget.
Ms. An declared that the guesthouse project, one of their company's most important, would not only fail to profit but would incur losses due to constant reworks for Xia Tian’s "personalized design." Xia Tian clarified that her studio was only responsible for design and its associated fees, and was unaware of other issues.
Ms. An, observing Xia Tian’s studio was only four years old with limited capital and no prior notable works, asked if this was her first major project, to which Xia Tian affirmed. Ms. An emphasized that Xu Zehao, as the client, had indulged Xia Tian, and other partners would never have approved such a proposal. She insisted that terminating the contract was the best option to stop the losses. Xia Tian expressed surprise, requesting time to consider.
She proposed adjusting the costs if the design itself was acceptable, believing termination was unnecessary. Ms. An clarified that the financial loss was only one factor; the greater concern was Xu Zehao's continued emotional involvement as long as Xia Tian remained on the project. Ms. An, as a partner, stated she could not allow the project to continue losing money.
She presented a generous termination agreement, assuring Xia Tian that any money already received would not be reclaimed, and urged a prompt response. Xia Tian countered that her graduation project had been nominated for an ADA design award, asserting her capability. She added that Xu Zehao himself had approached her studio, seeking a young and innovative team, and had chosen them for their distinct design style.
Xia Tian suggested that if cost overruns were due to selecting the wrong Party B, Xu Zehao should bear most of the responsibility. Later, Xu Zehao instructed Mr. Yu to have Xiao Song handle the wood material inspection, rather than Xia Tian who usually managed it. Mr. Yu, confused, relayed this to Xia Tian over the phone, leaving her puzzled.
Ms. An, present during Xia Tian’s call, chuckled and mockingly advised Xia Tian to reflect on whether she secured the project through her own ability or "something else," suggesting their cooperation was not as solid as it seemed. Xia Tian and Xiao Song confronted Xu Zehao at the wood yard. Xiao Song angrily accused Xu Zehao of treating them as disposable, reminding him that he had "begged" for their collaboration.
Xu Zehao admitted he had been "careless" and apologized, but remained stoic. Xiao Song called him "self-important, selfish, arrogant, and casual," noting he had become "more cold-blooded." Deeply hurt, Xia Tian looked sad. Xiao Song offered to take Xia Tian for a drink, but Xia Tian decided to visit her mother instead. Meanwhile, Guan Xin wanted to tell Xia Tian the truth about his adoption and his connection to Lu Xi, hoping to resolve Xia Tian's misunderstandings.
However, his mother objected, wishing to keep his adoption a secret to preserve the stability of their family life, which they had worked hard to build in their new town. Guan Xin, feeling he had "stolen" Lu Xi’s rightful life, wanted to give back some of what he had received. His mother dismissed his guilt, reminding him that she was the one who chose not to adopt Lu Xi.
Guan Xin pleaded to make his own decision regarding Lu Xi this time. His mother then advised him to reconsider telling Xia Tian if they were not yet committed to marriage. A distraught Xia Tian went to her mother's house. Her mother offered her fish soup, which Xia Tian immediately recognized as being from her late father's favorite restaurant. This discovery further deepened Xia Tian’s sadness.
Her mother's new partner made a comment about Xia Tian missing her dad, which her mother quickly dismissed, joking about him being jealous of a "dead man." Separately, Ms. An, while dining with Xu Zehao, praised his newfound calmness.
She confessed she had approached Xia Tian privately about terminating the contract after returning to China, explaining she acted because she had seen the project's severe financial losses before her return and feared Xu Zehao would be too emotional to end the collaboration. Xu Zehao was furious, stating he never intended to terminate the contract and accusing Ms. An of meddling and making rash decisions without proper due diligence on the project's broader implications.
Ms. An retorted that Xia Tian's studio lacked the necessary capability and scale for their projects. She then dropped a bombshell: Xia Tian had been nominated for an ADA design award but had withdrawn. Ms. An used this to argue that Xia Tian lacked professional ambition. Xu Zehao was visibly shocked, asking her to repeat the information. Unable to reach Xia Tian by phone, Xu Zehao called Xiao Song.
He explained Ms. An's actions were a misunderstanding and that he only wanted to avoid meeting Xia Tian, not terminate their contract, lamenting his impact on Xia Tian. He then inquired about Xia Tian's withdrawal from the ADA competition. Xiao Song angrily recounted that Xia Tian's father had died and Xu Zehao had broken up with her around that time, leaving Xia Tian "depressed" and barely able to graduate. Xiao Song chastised him for asking only now.
Pondering why a breakup would cause such profound despair, Xu Zehao realized there was more to the story than he knew. He asked Mr. Yu to investigate Xia Tian's graduation records from 2016, specifically concerning her ADA nomination. Meanwhile, Guan Xin, unable to reach Xia Tian, called Xiao Song, who directed him to Xia Tian's mother's house, emphasizing that Xia Tian "needed him the most." Upon arriving, Guan Xin found Xia Tian upset.
She confided that Ms. An wanted her off the guesthouse project due to its high cost and low profit, a decision Xia Tian understood given her "lack of impressive resume." Xia Tian felt she was being "too headstrong" trying to prove her talent while struggling financially.
Guan Xin reassured her that "talented people are allowed to be headstrong" and offered to cover her living expenses for a year, citing the story of Harper Lee, author of "To Kill a Mockingbird," who received a year's salary from a friend to focus on writing. Guan Xin stated he wanted Xia Tian to have the "confidence to choose," not to quit because of Xu Zehao. Xia Tian thanked him and said, "I love you."
A narration (Xia Tian’s inner thoughts) emphasized the importance of a partner's immediate support, concluding that Guan Xin made her feel "safe." They decided to get something to eat. The next morning, Xia Tian awoke feeling better. Her mother, relieved to see her "alive again," joked about how Xia Tian's emotional resilience had improved, recalling past dramatic reactions to minor setbacks. She mentioned preparing a "remedy card" for her "trouble maker" daughter but noted it was no longer needed.
Xia Tian jokingly attributed her stubbornness to her mother, who accepted it as a "precious inheritance." Later, Mr. Yu presented Xu Zehao with Xia Tian's old design materials. Xu Zehao was impressed by her "ingenious," "natural," "smart," and "modern" designs. He then asked Mr. Yu to research the ADA jury members from that year and the whereabouts of Alex, a prominent figure. Xu Zehao then took Mr. Yu to Xia Tian's studio.
Finding Xia Tian absent, Xu Zehao sent Mr. Yu to eat with Xiao Song to discuss work and took Donghao with him, needing to ask him some questions. In the car, Donghao reassured Xu Zehao about Xia Tian’s well-being, mentioning that he, as a doctor, would take good care of her. Xu Zehao then asked Donghao for the location of Xia Tian’s father's grave.
Donghao was surprised, revealing that Xia Tian had never visited since the funeral; only her mother went each year. He explained that on the death anniversary, Xia Tian became "neurotic" and "wouldn't talk to anyone," a state her mother allowed due to Xia Tian's fragility. Donghao also confirmed Xia Tian’s withdrawal from the ADA, recounting her deep depression after her father's death, which caused her to grow up "overnight."
Xu Zehao pressed for the grave's location, and Donghao told him it was at Xiaoshan Cemetery, where he and Xiao Song had gone once with Xia Tian's mother. Xia Tian visited the beach to clear her mind, sending a photo to Guan Xin, who responded with affection and shared that he was performing scar removal surgery for Lili, the little girl from the Charity House, that day.
At the same time, Xu Zehao went to Xia Tian's mother's house, where Xia Tian used to live. He explained he was there to talk to Xia Tian about the project and make amends for not having supported her during a crucial competition in the past, implying he wished to help her through work. Xia Tian’s mother, however, insisted that her past struggles were "none of his business."
She then revealed a devastating truth: Xia Tian's father had died in a car crash, not from a cerebral hemorrhage as Xu Zehao believed. She tearfully disclosed that on Mid-Autumn Day, he and his lover had died together in the accident. This revelation deeply shocked Xu Zehao, bringing back memories of a past conversation with Xia Tian’s father. He recalled the advice given to him about marriage and supporting Xia Tian, realizing now that these had been his "last advice."
The advice included not fighting with Xia Tian, always standing by her side, and understanding that one's partner is more important than parents. Xia Tian’s father had also expressed his regret that he wouldn't be with Xia Tian much longer, urging Xu Zehao not to impose his own ideas of "good" on her, emphasizing that "happiness is the most important." Overwhelmed by this understanding, Xu Zehao drove to Xiaoshan Cemetery and placed a bouquet of flowers on Xia Wei's grave.
Episode 15 Recap
Five years ago, Xu Zehao chose to prioritize his dignity and listen to his business partners, leaving Xia Tian to endure profound pain when she needed him most. Now, with Ms. An's return, he is determined not to harm Xia Tian again. He decides to act on his emotions, stating he will follow his heart instead of his logic, and will not compromise with Ms. An, regardless of being emotional.
Xu Zehao contacted Alex and sent him Xia Tian’s design portfolio. Alex was impressed with her unique style and expressed interest in meeting her upon his return to China. Ms. An confronted Xu Zehao, disappointed that he was not approaching the situation rationally. She questioned his actions, accusing him of letting his personal feelings influence company decisions and making the company bear the cost of his "unrequited love," reminding him that she runs a business, not a charity.
Xu Zehao, however, argued that he was now capable and had the opportunity to make amends. He decided to take a gamble, offering to personally cover all project losses if he failed, on the condition that Ms. An would also reclaim her share of the company. Despite Ms. An calling him arrogant and selfish, Xu Zehao assured her that he would not "drag her down."
That night, Xu Zehao visited Xia Tian’s studio, where she was still secretly working on the guesthouse project. He informed her that he had settled things with Ms. An and urged her to return to the project, acknowledging the significant effort she had already invested. Xia Tian expressed her reluctance to continue, stating she wanted her achievements to be based on her own merit, not out of pity.
Xu Zehao apologized for having distanced himself from her for personal reasons, and for Ms. An's interference, which he claimed he was unaware of. To make amends for her withdrawal from the ADA competition due to him, he revealed he had sent her postgraduate work to Alex, her favorite designer, and hoped to arrange a meeting for them.
Xu Zehao then showed Xia Tian a photo of her father's tomb, admitting he had visited to apologize for not being there and for failing to protect and care for her as he had promised her father. Overwhelmed with emotion, Xia Tian broke down, lamenting that after five years together, she believed he would have sensed her deep sorrow and rushed to her side without her having to explicitly ask.
Xu Zehao acknowledged his failure to understand her emotional state, admitting he had thought she was merely sensitive and had not given her the patience or understanding she deserved. Embraced by Xu Zehao, Xia Tian found solace, finally feeling safe enough to confront the grief she had avoided for years since her father's passing. She confessed that she had only learned of her parents' divorce the day before her father's fatal car accident, which involved another woman.
This revelation shattered her illusion of their perfect marriage and left her unable to face the truth. Xu Zehao recalled her father's dying wishes during their camping trip—to never argue with Xia Tian, to always concede to her in marriage, and to love her as the last woman in his life. He expressed regret that he had failed to uphold any of these promises.
Reflecting on their past, he admitted that while their problems were not insurmountable, they had reached a dead end. He decided it was time to let go and leave Xia Tian to Guan Xin, recognizing Guan Xin's deep love and care for her. Xu Zehao then formally broke up with Xia Tian, explaining that he had finally accepted their separation after five years of confusion because he previously hadn't understood why they broke up and couldn't accept it.
He acknowledged Xia Tian's unspoken animosity, asking them both to let go. He returned a box of items she had left with him and requested one last embrace, wishing her happiness and a joyful life. Xia Tian wept silently, while Xu Zehao, after leaving, collapsed in a corner, crying uncontrollably. Later, as Xia Tian was about to open the box from Xu Zehao, Xiao Song interrupted, calling her for hotpot.
Xu Zehao, meanwhile, held a hidden engagement ring, remembering his original plan to propose to Xia Tian five years ago at the place where they first met, which turned into their breakup trip. At the hotpot, Xia Tian tearfully recounted her official breakup with Xu Zehao to Xiao Song and Dong Hao. They were initially confused, reminding her they had broken up five years prior.
Xia Tian clarified that Xu Zehao had not accepted their initial separation and she had clung to her resentment, but now they had both let go. Xiao Song and Dong Hao comforted her, advising her to cry her fill and assuring her that they would handle the guesthouse project with Mr. Yu so she wouldn't have to see Xu Zehao.
Xia Tian apologized for not being a good friend, admitting she couldn't face many things herself and thus struggled to share them. The next morning, much to Xiao Song and Dong Hao’s surprise, Xia Tian was cheerful and ready for her date with Guan Xin, prompting them to comment on how capricious people in love can be. Xia Tian and Guan Xin spent the day cooking lunch together, their rapport growing stronger.
However, Xia Tian voiced her concern that as time passed, their relationship might become tiresome and expose more problems. Guan Xin, sensing her past hurts, reassured her that he would never change and would always resolve any issues, as long as she trusted and loved him. Meanwhile, Lili's surgery was successful, and she woke up in the hospital asking for her mother. Lu Xi comforted her, promising to always be her family.
As Lu Xi needed to retrieve some items from home, Guan Xin offered to drive her, discovering her humble living conditions and the unsuitable sleeping arrangements for Lili's recovery. Concerned, Guan Xin decided to book a hotel room for them near the hospital, causing him to miss his date with Xia Tian again. While checking in at the Jindu Hotel, Xia Tian called. The front desk's inquiry about a standard room for two people caused Guan Xin some embarrassment.
He stepped aside to explain to Xia Tian, truthfully stating that he was booking a room for a child he had just operated on from the charity house, who had nowhere to stay. He did not mention Lu Xi was with him, but later reflected that he felt relieved for being "seventy percent honest" and admitted he disliked the uneasy feeling of lying.
In the days that followed, Xu Zehao, having released his possessiveness and resentment, truly wished Xia Tian well, realizing he was only now learning how to genuinely love someone. This newfound perspective, however, manifested in an extremely demanding and short-tempered demeanor at work. He harshly criticized his employees for minor errors, yelling at them to use their brains and redoing poorly designed plans.
For matters requiring Xia Tian's input on the guesthouse project, Mr. Yu and Xiao Song were forced to act as intermediaries between her and Xu Zehao, who refused to communicate directly. During one such relayed conversation about furniture placement details, Xu Zehao asked Mr. Yu to inquire about Xia Tian's well-being. Mr. Yu, annoyed, retorted that Xu Zehao should ask her himself, especially since he "goes to her house every night" to watch her. Unbeknownst to Mr. Yu, his phone was on speaker, and both Xiao Song and Xia Tian heard his comment, leaving them both astonished.
Episode 16 Recap
Xia Tian started her day by herself, lost in thought. Xiao Song teased her, correctly guessing she was waiting for Guan Xin, before heading to Xu Zehao's company. Xia Tian then sent Guan Xin a message expressing how much she missed him. At the same time, Guan Xin was with Lu Xi, helping her shop for furniture. He casually texted Xia Tian back, saying he missed her too, while Lu Xi picked out a new mattress.
A salesperson at MOOSOO, seeing them together, mistakenly thought they were a couple and tried to sell them a high-end T10 AI smart mattress. Lu Xi felt the mattress was too extravagant, but Guan Xin insisted on a good quality bed and mattress for her rest, given her hard work. He then clarified to the salesperson that they were not a couple, but he was helping Lu Xi choose.
Although initially hesitant, Lu Xi tried the mattress and found it very comfortable. Guan Xin immediately purchased the mattress, along with a single bed and a gel pillow, demonstrating his familiarity with the brand's products. He then helped arrange the delivery and spent time setting up Lu Xi's small apartment, assembling the bed and organizing her belongings.
Lu Xi offered Guan Xin water and told him she felt a strong sense of familiarity with him, noting how much he resembled her brother. Guan Xin, realizing the profound connection she felt, simply suggested he might resemble someone she previously knew. Lu Xi elaborated that her brother used to help her bear her pain, and that sharing pain is a more intimate act than sharing happiness, reserved only for those one truly loves and trusts.
Guan Xin absorbed her words. Just then, Donghao called, asking Guan Xin to return to the hospital for emergency patients and wondering if he was again with "that girl." Guan Xin assured Donghao he had things under control and would return soon, then told Lu Xi he had to leave as everything was taken care of. Meanwhile, at Xu Zehao's company, Xiao Song was diligently working to finalize project details. She overheard Xu Zehao angrily reprimanding his employees for incompetence.
Mr. Yu apologized to Xiao Song for the chaotic scene, but Xiao Song dismissed it, encouraging the team to stay motivated. After working late, Xiao Song joined Mr. Yu and other colleagues for drinks at a familiar bar. There, they coincidentally encountered Tan Xu and his girlfriend. Tan Xu's girlfriend loudly berated him, calling him cheap and stingy for using coupons at a bar and choosing restaurants with discounts when dining with her friends, making her feel embarrassed.
She questioned whether he valued her enough to spend money on her, mentioning they even split bills. Unable to tolerate her accusations, Xiao Song intervened. She told the girlfriend that her words were excessive and revealed that Tan Xu's frugality was rooted in his charitable efforts. She explained how Tan Xu had worked part-time since high school, saved money in college to support less fortunate students, and continues to aid children in impoverished areas.
Xiao Song concluded by stating that Tan Xu’s girlfriend did not deserve him. Angered, Tan Xu's girlfriend stormed out. Tan Xu apologized to Xiao Song for the scene and thanked her, but Xiao Song simply stated she had only spoken the truth about what she knew. Her colleagues applauded her boldness. Later that night, a very drunk Xiao Song called Xia Tian to pick her up.
Xia Tian then called Donghao, who, assuming both women were intoxicated, suggested Guan Xin come along to help. Xia Tian brought a babbling Xiao Song home, who, in her drunken state, mumbled, 'Did Missy ever truly love me?' Donghao and Guan Xin soon arrived, and Xia Tian was visibly pleased to see Guan Xin. Unseen by them, Xu Zehao stood silently downstairs, watching Xia Tian's apartment once again.
Late that night, Guan Xin noticed a message on Xia Tian’s phone from Xu Zehao, simply asking, "Are you asleep?" This deeply disturbed Guan Xin. The next morning, Xu Zehao woke up with a hangover, saw the empty bottles, and immediately checked his phone. He was mortified by the message he had sent Xia Tian, berating himself for his actions.
Guan Xin, still upset, confronted Xia Tian about the message, asking how she interpreted a man texting a woman at 2:20 AM. Xia Tian calmly brushed it off, suggesting Xu Zehao was likely drunk and sent it by mistake, attempting to end the conversation. However, Guan Xin persisted and called Xu Zehao. Xu Zehao declined the call, texting back that he was in a meeting, an excuse Guan Xin found unbelievable given the early hour.
Guan Xin then sent a direct message to Xu Zehao, demanding an immediate explanation for his late-night text. Xu Zehao concocted a flimsy excuse, claiming he meant to send it to a friend and accidentally sent it to Xia Tian. Xia Tian found his explanation childish and unconvincing, pointing out that the late timestamp clearly indicated he was drunk. Guan Xin still questioned why Xu Zehao would text Xia Tian specifically when inebriated.
To alleviate the tension, Xia Tian suggested a romantic weekend getaway with Guan Xin. He agreed, but during a kiss, Xia Tian felt a growing sense of detachment, a lack of the intimacy they once shared. At work, Xu Zehao remained in a foul mood, acting like an overbearing boss. Mr. Yu tried to lift his spirits, urging him to move past Xia Tian and regain his composure, noting his behavior was affecting the staff.
Mr. Yu suggested organizing a company team-building event to boost morale and help Xu Zehao reconnect with his employees. Xu Zehao agreed, and Mr. Yu called Xiao Song to invite her. That weekend, during the company team-building, Xu Zehao was seen drinking alone. Xiao Song approached him, telling him to forget about Xia Tian and "get himself together," revealing that Xia Tian and Guan Xin were on a romantic getaway.
Unbeknownst to them, Xia Tian and Guan Xin had chosen the very same popular resort for their trip, and their rented rooms were adjacent to the company’s. During their stay, Guan Xin asked Xia Tian why she was with him. Xia Tian turned the question back to him.
Guan Xin admitted that he was immediately captivated by her during their first meeting, admiring her vibrant energy and sparkling eyes as she enjoyed food and drink, a quality he hadn’t seen in anyone else. He explained he hadn't told her sooner to avoid making her "smug." Xia Tian, in turn, described Guan Xin as polite, warm, and kind. Guan Xin then pondered if she would still love him if he were not "the polite and kind doctor."
Xia Tian affirmed her affection for "the whole him," not just those individual traits. A humorous coincidence occurred when Xiao Song, in the restroom, found herself without toilet paper and asked the person in the adjacent stall for some. To her surprise, it was Xia Tian. Xiao Song excitedly shared the news with Xia Tian that Xu Zehao was quite depressed, which was the reason for the team-building event.
Shortly after, Guan Xin encountered some of Xu Zehao's employees outside the restroom. They recognized him as Xia Tian's boyfriend and enthusiastically invited them both to join the team-building games, mentioning that Xu Zehao and Xiao Song were also there. Xiao Song then joined them, recounting her fateful restroom encounter. Unable to decline, Xia Tian and Guan Xin joined the team-building activities.
The event featured a quiz game hosted by Mr. Yu, with Xu Zehao offering a 1000 yuan prize for each correct answer. The first question asked for the meaning of a cherry tree. Xia Tian promptly answered, "the one and only love." A flashback showed Xu Zehao giving her a cherry wood ring, explaining its meaning. The second question asked for the re-release date of the movie "A Chinese Odyssey" in mainland China.
Xia Tian again knew the answer: October 24, 2014. Another flashback revealed Xu Zehao taking leave to surprise Xia Tian for her birthday on that date, fulfilling her wish to watch the re-released movie, after which they walked hand-in-hand until dawn. Guan Xin contemplated how important these memories must be for Xia Tian to recall them so vividly, wondering when their love began to shift. Hearing her answers, a revitalized Xu Zehao stood up.
The third question inquired about a special tree at the resort, chosen by Xu Zehao, that symbolizes "yearning and love." Xia Tian immediately identified it as a "twinned trunk." A final flashback showed Xia Tian and Xu Zehao together, searching for a 300-year-old twinned trunk, with Xu Zehao promising to find it for her.
Episode 17 Recap
When Xia Tian correctly answered "twinned trunks" at the event, a hidden memory was stirred within Xu Zehao, and he struggled to hold back tears. The surrounding festivities faded into irrelevance for both of them. Xia Tian, overwhelmed, quickly took Guan Xin's hand and pulled him away. She realized that the past relationship held not just pain but also cherished, beautiful memories that she no longer needed to share with Xu Zehao.
Reflecting on their past, Xu Zehao acknowledged that Xia Tian, who had loved more actively and given so much without reservation, was ultimately the stronger person, capable of letting go with no regrets, while he, who had always been loved, was left with lingering sorrow and regret. Later that night, Xia Tian couldn't sleep. She went for a walk alone and unexpectedly encountered Xu Zehao.
She admitted to him that his frequent presence near her home, even though he always remained hidden, had made her anticipate seeing him, causing her to constantly look out her window. Overwhelmed by emotion, Xia Tian broke down crying, expressing her genuine wish for him to live a happy life. Just as Xu Zehao cautiously approached to comfort her, Guan Xin arrived, having realized Xia Tian was missing when he found her phone still in their room.
Misinterpreting Xia Tian's tears, Guan Xin was about to speak, but Xu Zehao quickly reprimanded Xia Tian, making Guan Xin believe she was upset about work-related issues. Guan Xin then gently led a still-crying Xia Tian back to their room, expressing his concern and urging her not to let work upset her. Back in his room, Xu Zehao was left pondering the true meaning of Xia Tian's tearful words.
The following morning, Guan Xin and Xia Tian checked out of their hotel. Meanwhile, Xiao Song, noticing numerous missed calls from Guan Xin the previous night, inferred that Xia Tian had gone missing and likely encountered Xu Zehao. She confronted Xu Zehao at breakfast, pressing him for details. Xu Zehao admitted to meeting Xia Tian and that she had cried, but he vaguely attributed it to work.
Xiao Song grew frustrated, reminding him of her earlier warnings not to interfere in Xia Tian and Guan Xin's relationship, urging him to keep things simple. She then observed Guan Xin and Xia Tian leaving together, looking content, which left Xu Zehao feeling disheartened. On their drive back, Guan Xin reassured Xia Tian, asking her to put the previous night behind them and focus on their happiness.
He then offered to spend the day at her studio to learn about her work, an offer Xia Tian accepted. At the studio, they worked together, polishing and painting, with Guan Xin actively helping out. Later, Xiao Song voiced her exasperation with Xu Zehao at the office, feeling like a "sandwich biscuit" caught between his demanding changes and Xia Tian's design work. She felt he was making the project unnecessarily complicated.
Deciding to confront him, Xiao Song met Xu Zehao at a pub. She passionately criticized him for ruining Xia Tian's "fairy tale" relationship and shattering her own belief in true love, expressing how much she had envied their perfect romance. As she became increasingly intoxicated, Xu Zehao, exasperated by her harsh words, reminded her that he had been there for her in the past, even carrying her home when she was heartbroken.
He questioned why she was so relentlessly angry with him when his relationship had been with Xia Tian, not her. Despite her protests, Xu Zehao eventually carried a thoroughly drunk Xiao Song back to her apartment, where she continued to berate him until Donghao stepped in to help. Xu Zehao found himself pondering why he seemed to be everyone's scapegoat. As Xu Zehao was leaving Xiao Song's building, Xia Tian offered him a ride home.
The car ride was filled with unspoken thoughts and awkward pauses as both contemplated their late-night encounter and Xia Tian's emotional words. Xia Tian finally broke the silence, proposing they maintain a strictly professional Party A and Party B relationship to avoid any further complications in their collaborative work. Xu Zehao, after a moment of reflection, agreed. The next morning, Mr. Yu brought breakfast to Xu Zehao, who was still deeply troubled by his unresolved feelings for Xia Tian.
He confided in Mr. Yu, questioning if Xia Tian could truly move on and why she had offered him a ride. Mr. Yu, quoting an "expert" article (which he later humorously realized he had written himself), advised Xu Zehao that time would heal everything and that strong emotions eventually fade, urging him to accept that no one is special, and all relationships eventually become a distant memory. Elsewhere, Xia Tian's mother enjoyed a cheerful morning stroll with Director Jian.
Director Jian, encouraging her to embrace life and seize the moment, gently took her hand as they walked. Meanwhile, outside Xiao Song's home, Tan Xu unexpectedly appeared with a bouquet of flowers, startling Xiao Song and provoking a wary response from Donghao, who tried to send him away. Xiao Song, however, told Donghao to go back inside, seemingly ready to handle Tan Xu herself.
Episode 18 Recap
Xiao Song shyly asked Li Donghao to leave, but he stood firm, insisting that Tan Xu did not deserve her. Xiao Song scolded him and eventually got Li Donghao to go back inside. She then asked Tan Xu if he had something to say. Tan Xu sincerely apologized for pretending not to know her feelings and for making her pay for car repairs in the past, acknowledging he had been confused back then.
Xiao Song accepted the bouquet of flowers from him. Li Donghao, however, remained concerned and displeased, snatching the flowers away and asking if Xiao Song wasn't allergic to pollen. Later, he saw Xia Tian rushing off and offered her a different bouquet of Lisianthus, touting its meaning of "sincere and unchanging love" as the best for a woman. He was clearly worried about Xiao Song’s romantic pursuits with either Tan Xu or Mr. Yu.
Later, Xiao Song confided in Xia Tian, describing her personal life as unexpectedly complicated. She found Mr. Yu to be a careful, considerate, and mature man, yet she felt a lack of deeper connection. While she had grown less fond of Tan Xu, she acknowledged that he had positively influenced her, teaching her about financial management. Most importantly, he now genuinely liked her.
However, the person who truly confused her was Li Donghao, especially given his recent unusual reactions and strange behaviors towards her, which even Xia Tian noticed. Xia Tian, drawing from her own experience, advised Xiao Song that feelings often develop without logical reasons, and the heart can react faster than the mind. She explained that true affection can manifest naturally, leaving no room for regret. Xiao Song realized Xia Tian was referring to her own renewed feelings for Xu Zehao.
Xiao Song expressed her frustration, struggling to understand the dynamic between Xia Tian and Xu Zehao, particularly their second "breakup" after five years apart. Xia Tian admitted that Xu Zehao’s inexplicable words still caused her pain, and yes, she had developed feelings for him once more. She explained that it was impossible not to, as Xu Zehao was the person who understood her best, having seen her at her most vulnerable during their five years together.
However, Xia Tian clarified that despite her feelings, she knew her boundaries and was committed to her relationship with Guan Xin, asserting that Xu Zehao was a part of her past and she had no intention of breaking up with Guan Xin. Xiao Song hugged Xia Tian, apologizing for her earlier harshness and promising to always support her friend. That afternoon, Xia Tian arrived at Xu Zehao’s company for a project discussion concerning the townhouse project. Xu Zehao feigned composure.
During the discussion, Mr. Yu slyly noted the uncanny similarity between Xia Tian’s and Xu Zehao’s concerns about planting a tree in the villa courtyard, observing Xu Zehao's discomfort. After the meeting, Xia Tian and Xu Zehao shared a quick farewell. However, fate had other plans, and they coincidentally met again at their frequently visited restaurant, still holding onto their familiar food preferences from five years ago.
Guan Xin called Xia Tian, and she frankly told him she was having dinner with Xu Zehao because the company project was in its final sprint stage. Guan Xin paused, then informed her that he would be working overtime that night.
With an unexpected evening ahead, Xia Tian and Xu Zehao openly discussed their past relationship, reminiscing about trivial arguments over food preferences—such as adding cheese to instant noodles, the salty versus sweet tofu debate, or whether to add salt or sugar to scrambled eggs. They also recounted how they had changed habits for each other, like Xu Zehao learning to eat seafood noodles and Xia Tian delving into movies and Jay Chou’s work because of him.
They both found humor in how at least half of their current habits were shaped by their past relationship. After their meal, they took a walk by the sea. Xu Zehao shared that his parents were still on their world tour, living freely, and had been for three years, which prompted Xia Tian to express her envy for their deep love for each other and for him.
They recalled the urban legend about couples who sang the song "Love in Hiroshima" eventually breaking up; despite Xia Tian's efforts to avoid singing it with Xu Zehao, they still ended up separating. As they walked, both felt an unspoken longing; Xia Tian internally wished to hold Xu Zehao's hand, and he secretly contemplated pretending to be drunk to touch her face again, as he once did.
Their shared emotions were abruptly reined in when Xia Tian stumbled, nearly spraining her ankle in her high heels, and Xu Zehao instinctively caught her. The next morning, Guan Xin prepared breakfast, but Xia Tian was unreachable by phone. He called Li Donghao, who, after checking Xia Tian’s empty room, covered for her by saying she had gone for a walk by the sea, a frequent habit of hers lately.
Xiao Song, waking up and realizing Xia Tian hadn't come home, was worried and suspected she might be with Xu Zehao, especially remembering their meeting the day before. Guan Xin, growing increasingly anxious, drove towards the seaside. Meanwhile, Xiao Song and Li Donghao argued passionately about Xia Tian’s potential whereabouts. Xiao Song, still unable to reach Xia Tian or Xu Zehao, called Mr. Yu, who happened to be on his way to Xu Zehao's apartment.
Mr. Yu covertly entered the apartment, observing for any signs of Xia Tian, even checking for hidden shoes, but she was not there. Xu Zehao then appeared, clearly annoyed by Mr. Yu's intrusion. Guan Xin eventually located Xia Tian through a phone tracking app, finding her safely asleep at her mother's house. Xu Zehao later reassured Mr. Yu that neither he nor Xia Tian were the kind of people to betray a boyfriend.
He confirmed that after tending to her sprained ankle the previous night, he had driven her directly home. Xia Tian was at her mother’s, crying and emotionally overwhelmed by life's difficulties, wanting to ask her mother why she had brought her into the world. Xu Zehao, understanding her sentiment, replied that he too often wondered about such profound questions.
Episode 19 Recap
Xu Zehao, visibly frustrated by misunderstandings surrounding his relationship with Xia Tian, asserted that despite any perceived risks, they had never overstepped boundaries and he had actively tried to control his feelings for her. He questioned why others refused to trust him. Meanwhile, Xia Tian called Guan Xin, who teased her for calling so many times, implying she missed him. He mentioned making sandwiches for her that morning, only to find she wasn't home.
Xia Tian explained she had stayed at her mother's house the previous night and had forgotten to tell him. Guan Xin, saying he had other commitments, playfully called her "petty" and asked her to think of him while he was busy. Hearing that Xia Tian was at her mother's, Xiao Song and Dong Hao were visibly relieved.
Guan Xin then arrived at the coffee shop where Lu Xi worked, surprised to learn it was closing due to low profits and converting into a nail salon. He asked about her future plans, and she shared that she had been accepted into a public service organization. Lu Xi intended to bake one last cake for Guan Xin as a farewell gift, but Guan Xin insisted on making it for her instead.
As they baked together, Guan Xin drew a sunflower on the cake, telling Lu Xi it symbolized her resilience, vitality, and youthful spirit. Lu Xi revealed she didn't celebrate her birthday because she didn't know the date. She then made three wishes: to be more capable and experience the wider world, to reunite with her "brother Xuan," and for Guan Xin to love himself more and open his heart.
She pointed out his numerous acts of kindness towards her, such as buying recording equipment, decorating her house, and funding Lili's surgery, but questioned why he neglected his own needs, especially regarding a scar on his arm. Guan Xin subtly hinted that some scars are not just physical but emotional. Lu Xi reiterated her wish for him to prioritize his own well-being and open up more. Later, on his way home, Guan Xin reflected deeply on Lu Xi's words.
He realized that since becoming "Guan Xin," he had lived cautiously, constantly trying to please others and avoid disappointing his mother, upsetting Xia Tian, or incurring Lu Xi's blame. He wondered if his self-sacrificing nature was, as Lu Xi suggested, a burden to those he cared for, and if people would still like the "real him" if he dared to take off his mask.
That night, Guan Xin called his mother, requesting to meet her after work the next day for an important conversation. The following day, Guan Xin's mother unexpectedly visited his apartment and discovered an old photo of him and Lu Xi, expressing her annoyance that he had kept it despite her clear instructions. She confronted him at the hospital, sternly reminding him that the photo should not be kept, especially if Xia Tian were to see it.
Guan Xin, tearfully, confessed his desire to atone to Lu Xi and, more importantly, to be completely honest with Xia Tian about his past. He expressed a profound longing to shed his secrets and live authentically with the person he loved, acknowledging that such honesty carried both benefits and pains. He thanked his mother for adopting him from the welfare house but revealed his deep loneliness in carrying his secret alone.
He pleaded with her to allow him to confide in Xia Tian, the woman he loved. After a long pause, his mother reluctantly agreed, still labeling him as stubborn. As Guan Xin's mother left the hospital, she accidentally bumped into Lu Xi, causing the photo frame to fall.
Lu Xi picked it up and was stunned to see a photo of herself with "Brother Xuan," immediately realizing Guan Xin's true identity and his connection to the woman she now knew was his mother. Overwhelmed, Lu Xi went to the seaside alone to cry. Unaware of Lu Xi's discovery, Guan Xin called Xia Tian, telling her he missed her and had something important to say that evening, for which he had prepared a romantic dinner.
Lu Xi, meanwhile, reflected on her past. A flashback showed a young Guan Xin promising to become a doctor and fix her arm scar. She recalled how she sustained the scar from a bicycle accident at the welfare house when she was six. She expressed a prior belief that she would instantly recognize her "brother Xuan" if she ever saw him, and a lingering doubt about Guan Xin possibly recognizing her but feigning ignorance.
Xia Tian found Lu Xi crying downstairs at Guan Xin's apartment building. Upset, Xia Tian demanded to know why she was there. Lu Xi explained that Guan Xin was like family to her. Xia Tian dismissed this, suggesting Guan Xin's kindness was merely pity for Lu Xi's difficult background.
Lu Xi, deeply offended, retorted with sarcasm, questioning why Xia Tian felt the need to deliver such a hurtful message and accusing her of suspicion despite her supposed understanding of her boyfriend. Lu Xi passionately asserted that her relationship with Guan Xin was private and that Xia Tian had no right to interfere or remind her of her circumstances.
She defiantly told Xia Tian to "try being an orphan" to understand, declared herself the protagonist of her own life, and refused to be told she was pitied, before leaving in tears. Xia Tian entered Guan Xin's apartment, seeing the prepared romantic dinner, and immediately confronted him about Lu Xi, accusing him of continuously delaying an explanation. Guan Xin, his earlier joy replaced by anger, questioned Xia Tian's lack of trust.
He pointed out his own acceptance of her ambiguous interactions with Xu Zehao, such as swapping phones, sleeping at his house, and becoming business partners, despite his inability to fully understand them. He challenged her love and questioned whether she truly considered his feelings. Xia Tian apologized for her harsh words and suggested they both calm down. However, Guan Xin, unable to reconcile in that moment, declared, "I can't do this." Xia Tian then left.
Alone, Guan Xin regretted his past cowardice, lamenting the many missed opportunities to confess his secret and realizing that once a chance to speak is missed, it becomes harder to retrieve. Xia Tian, unable to leave Guan Xin alone in his sorrow, returned to his apartment and found him at his door. She confessed her love, expressing a newfound sense of security and belief in his love, free from any lingering unease. Guan Xin reciprocated her feelings.
He then finally revealed his long-held secret: he, too, had grown up in a welfare house alongside Lu Xi. When he was twelve and Lu Xi six, his mother had initially intended to adopt Lu Xi. However, Lu Xi, too young to understand adoption, had only wanted to stay with her "Brother Xuan." Guan Xin had promised to always be with her.
Later, during a bicycle ride, Lu Xi sustained a severe arm injury that left a permanent scar, leading his mother to abandon her adoption plans. Guan Xin confessed that he believed he had "replaced" Lu Xi in the adoption and had been too ashamed to say goodbye when he left. Xia Tian immediately reassured him, saying he was only twelve at the time and couldn't be blamed.
She regretted that he had carried this burden for so long, understanding that his mother's strong will and his own fear of losing her had kept him silent. Xia Tian affirmed her love for Guan Xin, regardless of his background, stating that she loved him for who he was and was strong enough to completely trust him. Guan Xin then revealed his birth name, He Xuan, prompting Xia Tian to playfully "re-introduce" herself as Xia Tian.
He Xuan, filled with joy, responded, "Nice to meet you, Xia Tian." Xia Tian then realized her mistake in misunderstanding Lu Xi and expressed remorse for her harsh words, particularly telling her that Guan Xin's kindness was merely pity. She explained that she hadn't known Lu Xi was his sister and admitted her tendency to speak without thinking. Guan Xin absolved her, taking responsibility for not having told her sooner and promising to explain everything to Lu Xi himself.
He then playfully teased Xia Tian about her sharp tongue, which she, after a lighthearted argument, eventually admitted was a flaw. Later, while shopping, Xiao Song spotted Guan Xin leaving a jewelry store with a small gift bag containing a small box. She immediately speculated that he might be planning to propose to Xia Tian, excitedly claiming the role of maid of honor. Xiao Song then pressed Dong Hao for more information.
Dong Hao, trying to maintain the element of surprise for Xia Tian, discreetly learned that Guan Xin had booked a private room at Bairong Restaurant for the following evening. News of Guan Xin's impending proposal reached Xu Zehao, making his mood complicated. During a work meeting, Xu Zehao oversaw the final stages of Xia Song Studio's project, advising fine-tuning but no major changes, and cautioning against complacency.
Xiao Song excitedly informed Xia Tian about Guan Xin's romantic "bombardment" and the predicted proposal with flowers and a diamond ring. Meanwhile, Xia Tian encountered her mother with Uncle Jianmin. Her mother was embarking on a night hike, a new activity for her. Xia Tian playfully suspected her mother was in love, and her mother, in turn, playfully confirmed it. Xia Tian then sought her mother's advice, asking about her decision to marry her father.
Her mother explained that he was kind and accepted her temper, suggesting that complete mutual understanding isn't always possible between two independent individuals, and sometimes people simply "make do." When Xia Tian asked if she should accept if Guan Xin proposed, her mother advised her to make her own decision without considering anyone else, emphasizing Xia Tian's independence.
She added that she had never imposed her will on Xia Tian and that Xia Tian must understand her own feelings to avoid hurting others. Xia Tian jokingly attributed her own selfishness to her mother's genes. Finally, Guan Xin, holding a diamond ring, called his mother, indicating he had something to tell her.
Episode 20 Recap
Guan Xin, dressed formally, picked up Xia Tian in his car, keeping their destination a mystery. As they drove, Xia Tian found herself fantasizing about Guan Xin proposing to her, complete with a ring and roses. However, she quickly snapped out of her daydream, explaining that she was preoccupied with a design project she wasn't satisfied with. Guan Xin gently reminded her that she belonged to him for the day and encouraged her to relax.
To Xia Tian's surprise, they arrived at a restaurant for his parents' Pearl Wedding anniversary celebration, and the roses in the back seat were indeed a gift for them. During the lively party, Guan Xin held Xia Tian's hand, but Xia Tian felt a bit awkward as relatives and friends gossiped. The anniversary party was lively, celebrating Guan Xin’s parents, Guan Qun and Tong Mei, who were admired by everyone as a model couple.
Guan Xin introduced Xia Tian to his parents, and he and Xia Tian presented them with a gift, wishing them everlasting happiness. Guan Qun made a heartfelt speech, acknowledging that he hadn't given Tong Mei a proper wedding when they were young and was making up for it today. Tong Mei, however, jokingly revealed that her husband simply missed his friends and used the anniversary as an excuse to gather everyone.
Their old classmates praised their enduring love, with one friend marveling at their public displays of affection, while another suggested it was a "symbiotic effect" of two great people. Auntie Zhang admired Xia Tian's beauty but then lamented her own son's absence abroad. Another guest jokingly asked Guan Xin, a renowned plastic surgeon, what "beauty treatment" he gave his mother, as she looked significantly younger than her peers, prompting others to consider visiting his clinic.
Guan Xin’s mother, however, insisted she was "purely natural" and didn't favor such treatments. After the party, Xia Tian confessed to Guan Xin that she felt awkward not having prepared a gift for his parents, especially for their first meeting. Guan Xin reassured her that his parents liked her, and Xia Tian expressed her admiration for his parents' vibrant and loving relationship, hoping for a similar future for herself.
Guan Xin then told her they would have their own "private world" that evening, promising to reveal the details later. He took her to their familiar football field. There, under the quiet night sky, Guan Xin knelt and proposed. He explained that he didn't want a grand proposal, preferring a simple, intimate moment that reflected their quiet personalities.
He promised there would be no more secrets between them and that their love would overcome any misunderstandings or arguments, making them even happier than his parents. With tears in her eyes, Xia Tian accepted his proposal, and they embraced. Back home, Xiao Song and Donghao were thrilled to see Xia Tian's engagement ring. Donghao commented on its size and the significant expense Guan Xin must have incurred.
Xiao Song was touched by the proposal at the football field and excitedly proclaimed her role as maid of honor, joking that she'd only need one wedding gift for Xia Tian, hinting at her own developing relationship with Donghao. Just after midnight, Donghao and Xia Tian celebrated Xiao Song's 30th birthday. Xiao Song, having planned her own special birthday party for the next day, asked her friends for their cooperation.
The next day, Xiao Song's meticulously planned birthday party was underway. Donghao, expecting a private family gathering, was displeased to see "outsiders" like Tan Xu and Director Yu arrive, both invited by Xiao Song. Xia Tian reminded him that Xiao Song was the hostess and they needed to respect her arrangements. Xiao Song then made a grand entrance in a glamorous black princess-like dress and heels. Donghao, ever protective, quickly retrieved a coat for her.
Xia Tian discreetly informed Director Yu that she was engaged to Guan Xin and encouraged him to share the news with Xu Zehao. As Guan Xin's mother arrived, Xia Tian handed Xiao Song a gift from herself and Guan Xin and went to meet her future mother-in-law, asking the three men to look after Xiao Song. With Xia Tian gone, Tan Xu and Director Yu competed for Xiao Song's attention.
Tan Xu offered her a matcha mousse, claiming he had ordered it weeks in advance from her favorite shop, though Xiao Song complained it was too small. Director Yu presented her with a "happiness tree" adorned with copper coins, wishing her fortune and happiness. Donghao, unimpressed, scoffed at Director Yu's "bathhouse opening" gift and, eager to present his own, concocted a story about the upstairs toilet being broken to lure Xiao Song away.
He led her to a bathroom, where he dramatically unveiled his "special" gift: an intelligent closestool. He extolled its virtues, particularly for her frequent constipation, assuring her it was the most thoughtful and practical gift. Xiao Song was furious, berating him for his insensitivity and telling him he understood nothing about women, before kicking him out. Donghao, left alone, lamented his seemingly negative emotional intelligence and pondered whether he chose the wrong color for the toilet.
Meanwhile, Guan Xin's mother met with Xia Tian, apologizing for the sudden visit but claiming she was "just passing by" and had brought some skincare products. She politely probed Xia Tian's living situation, finances, and career, asking about her studio's revenue and whether she managed investments. Xia Tian explained she lived in her mother's house but paid rent, and that her studio was doing well with a new guesthouse project.
Guan Xin's mother approved of Xia Tian having her own career but stressed the importance of balancing it with family, offering to teach Xia Tian about family finance. She assured Xia Tian that she was not a difficult person and would like any girl Guan Xin chose. Then, she presented Xia Tian with a premarital examination form, already arranged, and a prenuptial agreement.
She explained that they needed to notarize their premarital assets, clarifying that only income earned after marriage would be considered common property. She also promised to buy them a house outright, with Xia Tian’s name on the deed.
When Xia Tian tried to suggest that she and Guan Xin weren't in such a hurry, Guan Xin's mother firmly stated that these steps were necessary to prevent future complications, dismissing Xia Tian's attempts to speak further and declaring that she would handle all wedding preparations. After his heartfelt, yet awkward, confession attempt to Xiao Song was interrupted by Donghao, Director Yu returned to the company and informed Xu Zehao about Guan Xin and Xia Tian's engagement.
Xu Zehao maintained a composed demeanor, wishing Xia Tian a happy life and acknowledging that perhaps Guan Xin was a more suitable partner for her. He ended his work for the day, silently struggling with his emotions. Elsewhere, Donghao, realizing his lack of verbal eloquence, sought help from a writer he addressed as "Sis." He asked her to compose a passionate love letter that would make Xiao Song want to "marry me on the spot."
Despite listing a litany of Xiao Song's flaws—her lack of sensitivity, low emotional intelligence, voracious appetite (though they shared a preference for late-night snacks), impulsive speech, short temper, slightly short legs, and poor hygiene (not flushing the toilet), and bad drinking habits—he admitted he was "poisoned" by love for her. The writer, surprised by his description, agreed to help after Donghao bartered ten deluxe hydro lifting packages as payment.
Xia Tian's mother called Xia Tian's father's son, a young boy, to surprise him with new sneakers and clothes. The boy initially called her "Granny," but she gently corrected him to "Auntie." She explained the sneakers were a free gift for football players, and since she didn't play, she thought of him. Meanwhile, Director Jian continued his attempts to rekindle his relationship with Xia Tian's mother over lunch.
Xia Tian’s mother reiterated that she had thought about it "120 times" and the results were still unsatisfactory, advising him to give up. Director Jian playfully countered that thinking about it so many times meant she was constantly thinking of him, and suggested they still had fifty years to enjoy life together. Guan Xin, unable to reach Lu Xi by phone, went to her apartment.
Lu Xi was startled to see him and instinctively recoiled when he tried to help her with her groceries. At dinner, Guan Xin noticed her looking unwell and asked if she was sick. Lu Xi tersely replied it was "just a cold" and told him to stop looking at her with pity, insisting she didn't need it. Guan Xin clarified he was merely expressing concern.
Lu Xi then confronted him, recalling a previous conversation where he said her brother would pretend not to know her if they met. She demanded to know why. Guan Xin explained that her brother likely didn't want to lose the respectable life he had, implying his adopted family's reputation. Lu Xi challenged this, asking what was wrong with being adopted and why her brother couldn't have confided in her in secret.
Guan Xin further explained that her brother also felt a deep burden of guilt and did not want his foster parents to be judged. He revealed that the deepest reason was the "conscience" of leaving her behind to be adopted alone.
Episode 21 Recap
Guan Xin confessed to Lu Xi that he couldn't face the condemnation of his conscience because he had left her behind. Lu Xi understood that he was unwilling to acknowledge her, and she asked him to perform surgery to remove the scar on her hand, as her initial hope of her brother helping her was now slim. Guan Xin agreed to schedule the surgery for the next day.
Lu Xi then added that if accepting his help would make him feel better, she would accept it completely. Donghao, meanwhile, was busy preparing a confession for Xiao Song. He practiced reading a cheesy love letter aloud, critiquing it for being too cliché and not suiting him. When Xiao Song arrived, he quickly hid the letter and presented her with a fascial gun, explaining it was a new gift to ease her back pain from working with wood.
Xiao Song found the hidden love letter and teased him about having a crush on someone weird, citing his bad taste in women and the outdated nature of his confession. Unbeknownst to her, Donghao was in love with her. Embarrassed, Donghao grabbed the fascial gun and ran off. Xia Tian returned home feeling upset after meeting Guan Xin’s mother, who had given her a premarital agreement, property certificate, and demanded a premarital medical examination.
She expressed to Xiao Song that she felt a little strange about it all. Xiao Song advised her not to overthink it, reminding her that she still had time to adapt before the wedding, and excitedly mentioned that their guesthouse project was complete and they could go for the acceptance inspection the next day. The following day, Guan Xin performed the scar removal surgery for Lu Xi.
The surgery was simple and successful, and the scar on her hand disappeared easily. However, Lu Xi felt a sense of emptiness and loss, having stubbornly kept the scar for so many years. Later that day, Xia Tian and Xiao Song visited the newly completed guesthouse. They felt a deep sense of accomplishment for their first big project. Mr. Yu took Xiao Song to the restroom, and soon after, Xu Zehao arrived.
He congratulated Xia Tian on finally having her own work. As Xia Tian walked through the guesthouse, she noticed many small, thoughtful design elements that reminded her of her relationship with Xu Zehao five years ago. She recalled how everything had happened so naturally back then, and she had never doubted they would marry, even without a formal proposal or a ring.
She remembered their dreams of a huge house by the sea with a long hallway for her woodwork, French windows, a glider, a view balcony, and a large table where they could draw together while their children played. They had even decided on having a boy and a girl, with the children inheriting her skin and his height. They had envisioned getting a dog and naming it Summer. Xia Tian took photos, wishing time would stand still.
She then noticed a dog, the one she had found earlier, now cared for by Xu Zehao at the guesthouse. As she petted the dog, Xu Zehao saw the engagement ring on her finger. The moment was heavy with unspoken words, and he simply offered a strained "Congratulations" for the completed project.
Xia Tian, with tears welling in her eyes, forced a "It was nice working with you" and quickly walked away, leaving Xu Zehao to process the painful realization that their relationship was truly over. He then named the dog Summer. One week later, Guan Xin surprised Xia Tian by taking her to their new wedding house. Xia Tian was surprised by its size.
Guan Xin excitedly imagined their future together, including a baby room for their future daughter, whom he hoped would be as smart as Xia Tian. He suggested they hold the wedding after the house was decorated. Xia Tian, still lost in memories of Xu Zehao and feeling unprepared, hesitated but ultimately agreed, feeling she had no reason to refuse him. Guan Xin then gave her full creative freedom to design their home, reminding her not to overwork herself.
Despite Guan Xin’s unwavering devotion, images of Xu Zehao continued to flash through Xia Tian's mind, and she questioned if she truly wanted to get married and decorate this house, feeling an unidentifiable sense of unease. Meanwhile, Xu Zehao had spent six days isolating himself at home, unable to erase the memory of Xia Tian. Mr. Yu visited, finding Xu Zehao's apartment in disarray, and urging him to select photos from the guesthouse for the company’s website.
Xu Zehao initially refused, lamenting that even after days, he couldn't forget. However, his mood brightened significantly when Mr. Yu announced that Alex, a renowned cultural director for the Old Block Creative Market project, had returned to China. Knowing Alex's projects often qualified for the ADA competition, Xu Zehao immediately asked for Alex’s schedule and project details, hoping to recommend Xia Tian’s work.
He tried to contact Alex via email and WeChat, then personally went to an art museum where Alex was giving a lecture. During his speech, Alex discussed design as an emotional connection, not just theory, and emphasized creating unique surprises, a philosophy that deeply resonated with Xu Zehao. After the lecture, Xu Zehao attempted to introduce himself, mentioning their previous brief meeting and the bamboo folding chair design he had sent.
However, Alex's assistant quickly ushered him away, citing a tight schedule and another lecture at the architecture school. Xu Zehao, undeterred, offered to drive Alex, but was politely declined. He then tried to invite Alex to dinner, but Alex vaguely stated his schedule was unpredictable and suggested another time. Xu Zehao immediately called Mr. Yu to find out the exact location of Alex's next lecture. Back at her studio, Xia Tian was struggling to design the wedding house.
She found herself looking at an old drawing Xu Zehao had made of "their future home," a drawing they had playfully discussed years ago. As she fell asleep at her desk, Guan Xin arrived with dinner. He smiled, pleased to see her working on designs he believed were for their new home, but his expression abruptly changed when he noticed the signature "Xu&Summer" on the drawing.
Episode 22 Recap
Guan Xin discovered drawings bearing the signature "xu&summer" in Xia Tian’s studio, unsettling him. When Xia Tian awoke, she quickly hid the drawings, explaining they were old works she was using for inspiration. Guan Xin then brought up the topic of her ex-boyfriend, a subject they had never discussed. He stated that as long as she loved him now, he would not dwell on the past.
Xia Tian felt a growing unease; she was about to marry Guan Xin, yet many questions remained unanswered, and things felt strange to her. Guan Xin, although suspecting a particular name, refrained from asking it directly to avoid any unnecessary arguments before their impending wedding. He hoped that after they were married, everything would resolve itself. Meanwhile, Xu Zehao persistently sought a meeting with Alex, finally securing a half-hour slot.
He presented Xia Tian’s portfolio, emphasizing her deep admiration for Alex’s work and her own creative talent. Xu Zehao highlighted how Xia Tian’s designs, inspired by Alex, incorporated elements of nature, wood, and human interaction, reflecting her dream of creating a warm urban forest in a concrete city. Alex was impressed by Xia Tian’s design style and Xu Zehao’s sincere efforts, but the Old Block Creative Market Project had stringent requirements for a team's experience, size, and capital.
Xu Zehao assured Alex that he would provide all necessary assistance in those areas and would send all of Xia Tian’s information. He later discussed with Mr. Yu the demanding nature of the bidding process, acknowledging that Xia Tian’s studio was small with limited experience and staff. Xu Zehao committed to helping them, ensuring they were well-prepared. He drove to Xia Tian’s house, not wanting to disturb her but believing this project was perfect for her.
From her window, Xia Tian saw Xu Zehao's car, which further complicated her feelings. Lu Xi arranged to meet Guan Xin, believing she had something important to tell him. Coincidentally, Guan Xin also had significant news to share. To Lu Xi’s surprise, Guan Xin happily announced that he and Xia Tian were getting married.
Suppressing her heartbreak, Lu Xi stammered that she was moving in a few days and would return the items he had given her, which she no longer needed. Later, while eating extra spicy tofu, Lu Xi cried silently, realizing she still couldn't bring herself to call Guan Xin "Xiao Xuan Ge," but it seemed to not matter anymore. Xia Tian’s mother visited her, reminding her that even in marriage, she must not forget to be herself.
Shortly after, Xia Tian received a surprising bid invitation from Alex. Overjoyed, she hugged Xiao Song, exclaiming that she had never been so lucky. She then remembered Xu Zehao mentioning he had sent her graduate school works to Alex, realizing his intervention was behind this incredible opportunity.
Guan Xin bought Xia Tian her favorite cake and excitedly outlined his plans for their wedding: a private ceremony on an island with close friends and family, complete with selected wedding photo locations like a small wooden house, and a beautiful fishtail wedding dress. He even proposed they start preparations the following week. Xia Tian, however, felt uneasy. She praised his plans but had to admit she recently received an important project that would require them to postpone their wedding.
She explained that working with Alex, her idol since college, was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that she couldn't afford to miss. Soon after, Mr. Yu arrived to deliver detailed bidding cases and Alex's style references for the project, which made Guan Xin visibly displeased as it meant Xia Tian would be working closely with Xu Zehao once again. That evening, Xiao Song and Donghao joined Xia Tian and Guan Xin for dinner to celebrate.
However, Xia Tian revealed she was still deliberating about the project because it conflicted with their wedding date. Xiao Song passionately urged her to take the opportunity, emphasizing the studio's journey through difficult projects and the prestige of collaborating with Alex, Xia Tian's long-time idol. Guan Xin was deeply conflicted. He reflected on how their relationship had lost its former ease, becoming cautious and strained.
He felt that if he agreed to the project, he would remain anxious, but if he refused, Xia Tian would carry a lifelong regret. The next morning, Guan Xin prepared breakfast. He told Xia Tian to get ready so they could visit their new home to measure for the bed, assuring her that his mother would oversee the rest of the renovations.
Xia Tian realized this meant Guan Xin had agreed to her taking on Alex's project and hugged him happily. Seeing her relief, Guan Xin also felt a sense of ease. As Xia Tian went to wash her hair, she asked Guan Xin to retrieve her hair-drying cap from her bedroom closet. While searching, Guan Xin discovered a hidden box.
Inside, he found a collection of photos of Xia Tian and Xu Zehao, movie tickets, an aquarium ticket from their fourth-anniversary, and love letters, meticulously documenting their five-year relationship. The discovery, particularly a photo of Xia Tian, Xu Zehao, Xiao Song, and Donghao together, deeply shocked Guan Xin and left him profoundly distressed.
Episode 23 Recap
Guan Xin had prepared a lavish breakfast, much to the admiration of Xiao Song and Dong Hao. However, Guan Xin pulled Dong Hao outside for a serious talk. He revealed that he had found a wooden box in Xia Tian's room containing photos and love letters from her past relationship with Xu Zehao, as well as a group picture of the four of them: Xia Tian, Xu Zehao, Xiao Song, and Dong Hao.
Guan Xin was furious, feeling betrayed that everyone, especially his close friend Dong Hao, had conspired to keep this secret from him, making him feel like a fool. Dong Hao, caught in the middle, apologized, explaining he had told Xia Tian not to disclose the past to avoid upsetting Guan Xin. He stressed that Xia Tian and Xu Zehao had broken up long ago, understood their boundaries, and that Xia Tian truly loved Guan Xin.
He urged Guan Xin to let go of the matter and focus on their upcoming wedding, but Guan Xin admitted he could no longer pretend to be understanding. Inside, Xia Tian confided in Xiao Song that she was with Guan Xin purely out of love. She also admitted that if her feelings for Guan Xin ever changed, she would go back to Xu Zehao, preferring honesty over being a "puppet" in her relationship.
When Guan Xin and Dong Hao returned, Guan Xin, still visibly upset, refused breakfast and abruptly took Xia Tian away. They didn't go to their wedding house but instead headed to the aquarium. Worried, Xiao Song pressed Dong Hao for details. Dong Hao informed her that Guan Xin had discovered Xia Tian's past with Xu Zehao.
Dong Hao then used the opportunity to chastise Xiao Song for being indecisive in her own romantic life, accusing her of leading multiple suitors on. Xiao Song, initially defensive, realized Dong Hao was referring to her, and immediately called Tan Xu. Guan Xin, silent and upset, led Xia Tian, who was wearing high heels, to the aquarium. Xia Tian's feet became chafed, a fact Guan Xin eventually noticed, and he kindly applied a bandage.
Inside, Guan Xin confessed he couldn't pretend as if nothing had happened, having seen the wooden box and the memories it held. Xia Tian repeatedly apologized, but Guan Xin expressed his anguish, noting that her apologies had become constant since Xu Zehao re-entered her life. Xia Tian explained that she had never opened the box and had missed the optimal time to dispose of it, acknowledging that some things, once missed, are gone forever.
She suggested they take a break if he couldn't accept the situation, but Guan Xin rejected the idea, reminding her they were on the verge of marriage. He then carried her out, reflecting internally that he wouldn't let go, viewing their relationship as a "war between men" he was determined to win, despite feeling that everyone expected him to lose.
Meanwhile, Xiao Song decided to clarify her romantic situation with her three admirers: Dong Hao, Tan Xu, and Yu Hui (Mr. Yu). Ignoring Dong Hao, who proclaimed himself her "brother" and advisor, Xiao Song frankly addressed each man.
She confessed she had liked Tan Xu in the past and he had inspired her, but a lack of timing and a shift in her perspective on love meant they were not destined to be, and she now had someone else she liked. She also acknowledged Yu Hui as a kind, gentle, and successful man with whom she could consider a future, but admitted she lacked the "impulse of love" or a "heartbeat" feeling for him.
As both Tan Xu and Yu Hui pleaded for another chance, grabbing her hands, Dong Hao angrily intervened, pulling Xiao Song's hand away and playfully holding it himself, declaring he never listened to teachers anyway. At the office, Ms. An tried to persuade Xu Zehao to attend an industry meeting and a live sharing event for their successful Guixin Guesthouse project, as Sheng Group wanted to continue their collaboration.
Xu Zehao, however, showed no interest, explaining he was occupied with another project – Alex's old town renovation. Ms. An was frustrated, pointing out that his current endeavors yielded no commercial profit for the company and that Xia Tian, for whom he was making these sacrifices, was unaware of his efforts. She questioned the worth of his actions as a businessman.
Xu Zehao, steadfast in his commitment, compared his emotional investment in Xia Tian to a venture capitalist taking a risk, willing to lose everything for a chance to succeed. Xia Tian and Xiao Song were busy with the Old Block renovation project, which had a deadline of December 18th. Xia Tian realized this date was Xu Zehao's birthday and felt a familiar, unsettling nervousness.
Dong Hao watched Xiao Song eat ravenously, finding her endearing even in her messiness, admitting his feelings for her were growing stronger. Xu Zehao learned that the competition for the Old Block project was intense, with many powerful listed companies bidding, putting Xia Tian's smaller studio at a significant disadvantage. As Xia Tian explored the old town for inspiration, camera in hand, she inadvertently crossed paths with Xu Zehao, who was also there.
They later met at a coffee shop where Xu Zehao reviewed Xia Tian's initial proposal, criticizing its common approach. He reminded her of her original intention to bring simple, natural elements into urban design, helping her rediscover her unique vision for the project. Lu Xi was seen secretly watching Guan Xin enter the hospital, departing without greeting him. Later that night, while Xia Tian was working late on her project, reviewing reference materials sent by Xu Zehao, Guan Xin called.
Xia Tian answered, reflexively calling out "Xu Zehao," creating an awkward silence. Both felt a growing distance and uncertainty about the stage of their relationship. Xia Tian pondered why she struggled to speak intimately and wondered if such difficulties were common in marriage, hoping their relationship would improve with time.
Guan Xin, weary, thought it was the first time he had said "I love you" to Xia Tian without truly feeling it, pondering if all couples resorted to such empty words to maintain their bond. Despite their unspoken concerns, they exchanged "I love you"s and "good night."
Episode 24 Recap
Lu Xi was seen pulling a suitcase, intending to leave the city. Guan Xin's mother found him asleep on the sofa, having taken sleeping pills. She expressed concern for his well-being, urging him to stop the medication and suggesting they go out to buy furniture for his new house. At a mattress store, while shopping for a space resin ball mattress, Guan Xin was distracted, constantly wondering about Xia Tian and if she was with Xu Zehao.
A salesperson asked if he had previously bought a mattress from them, which Guan Xin quickly denied, saying they must have mistaken him for someone else. He then tried to call Lu Xi, but her phone number was no longer in service. He then had a fleeting image of Lu Xi walking towards him, but his landlord soon informed him that Lu Xi had moved out, leaving no forwarding address.
Guan Xin was filled with regret, realizing he had lost the opportunity to make amends with her and had once again lost her. Meanwhile, Xia Tian and Xiao Song were in urgent need of photos for their guesthouse project. Mr. Yu informed Xia Tian that the pictures were on a camera in the company office. Though Mr. Yu expressed concerns about Xia Tian going so late, she insisted, as Xiao Song was busy.
Xia Tian took a taxi to Xu Zehao's company to retrieve them. Guan Xin, who spotted Xia Tian getting into the taxi, secretly followed her. At the office, Xia Tian found Xu Zehao working late, eating instant noodles, and realized he was busy with projects related to her. She felt a pang of sadness. She asked him why he was helping her.
Xu Zehao initially explained that he had met Alex, an artist Xia Tian admired, and saw an opportunity for her to pursue her dreams, which had been deferred due to her uncle's issues. When Xia Tian pressed further, asking why he was so good to her, Xu Zehao confessed that he wanted to atone for not treating her well, understanding her, or loving her enough during their past relationship.
While transferring the photos, he came across several pictures of himself that Xia Tian had taken at the guesthouse. Later, Xia Tian surprised Xu Zehao with a simple handmade birthday cake, telling him she could at least do this for him, reminiscing about a past birthday when she had given him "coupons" for various affections and a blank one, on which he wrote "I love you."
In the present, when asked for his wish, Xu Zehao confessed that he wished to become Xia Tian, to understand her feelings, particularly why she cried when they left the noodle shop, why she took his pictures at the guesthouse, and why she waited for him every night. He declared that if her feelings were what he hoped they were, he would abandon everything to be with her immediately, admitting he still loved her and longed to reconcile.
He pleaded with her to take just one small step, promising to shoulder all her worries. However, Xia Tian tearfully refused, stating she had only come for the photos and to wish him happy birthday, asking him not to sway her. She then ran out of the office crying, where Guan Xin, who had been waiting outside, saw her tears and angrily confronted her, demanding to know why she was in tears.
Xu Zehao followed Xia Tian downstairs, leading to a heated argument with Guan Xin. Guan Xin declared that he didn't want Xu Zehao involved in their lives and would prevent Xia Tian from working with him. Xu Zehao retorted that Guan Xin knew nothing about Xia Tian's true desires, her dreams, or what she sacrificed, unlike himself.
Enraged, Guan Xin threatened Xu Zehao, but Xu Zehao calmly asserted that Xia Tian was a self-reliant individual who didn't need anyone to dictate her happiness or give her "self-righteous happiness," adding that Guan Xin and Xia Tian's relationship would not last. Their verbal confrontation escalated into a physical fight. The bar proprietress intervened, scolding both a "boss" and a "doctor" for fighting over a woman and demanding double compensation for the damages.
Mr. Yu arrived and offered to pay, but the proprietress insisted that both men split the cost. Xia Tian, witnessing the chaos and seeing them both bruised, was at a loss but ultimately chose to leave with Guan Xin. Left alone, Xu Zehao drank his sorrows away.
The proprietress then advised him that if he had truly given his all in the relationship, he would have no regrets, and urged him to pursue Xia Tian with the confidence he once had. Back at home, Guan Xin pressed Xia Tian to explain why she had been crying and why she went to Xu Zehao's company so late.
Taking off her engagement ring, Xia Tian told him they should break up, explaining that their relationship had reached its end and continuing would only lead to more pain. Guan Xin, unwilling to accept, admitted to having said hurtful things but insisted he could accept her explanation. Xia Tian, however, firmly stated that there was no point in forcing themselves to continue, predicting their relationship would eventually turn into disgust and hatred.
When Guan Xin asked who taught her such a perspective on love, Xia Tian starkly replied, "Xu Zehao. Is that the answer you want?" She then declared that it was truly over between them. Later, Guan Xin confided in Donghao, expressing his pain and his realization that Xia Tian couldn't tell him the truth because he wouldn't be able to accept it. Donghao, for his part, initially lashed out at Xia Tian for causing the fight, which Xia Tian dismissed.
Meanwhile, Xia Tian silently acknowledged that telling Guan Xin she had fallen for Xu Zehao again would be too cruel. She asked Donghao to dispose of a wooden box. Donghao, still seemingly hoping for her and Guan Xin, stated that if she hadn't thought it through, he would consider her and Guan Xin merely having had a fight.
Xiao Song, concerned, offered to stay with Xia Tian, and believing Xia Tian had chosen Xu Zehao, encouraged her to wholeheartedly pursue him and promised to stand by her, even if it meant facing criticism. Xia Tian, however, also mused that choosing Guan Xin would have been a good option too.
She sighed, reflecting that the answer had long been clear since witnessing the fight at the bar, and acknowledged she was not a good person to either Guan Xin or Xu Zehao. She pondered if Guan Xin was truly ready for the breakup, and if she herself was, concluding that the complexities of love could only be truly understood by those experiencing it firsthand.
Episode 25 Recap
Xia Tian's studio received the notice that they had won the bid for the old town renovation project. Overjoyed, she immediately messaged Xu Zehao, who replied, confident that he knew she would succeed. Guan Xin, curious about Xia Tian's work, brought snacks to her work site. He even purchased books on woodworking and interior design, offering to help design their wedding house if she was too busy.
He then insisted they have dinner together, promising to wait indefinitely if she refused. Xia Tian eventually agreed, and Xu Zehao observed them leaving side-by-side. During dinner, Xia Tian found it impossible to pretend that nothing had happened between them. She told Guan Xin that she couldn't bring herself to hurt him anymore, nor could she continue to do so.
Guan Xin, however, was resolute in his desire to understand her, clinging to the hope of a future for their relationship. Xia Tian silently reflected on how they had fallen in love in mere moments, yet breaking up felt like an impossible, drawn-out process. Guan Xin kept trying to persuade her, reminding her of her favorite sauce and expressing how much he missed her, even if she hated him.
Despite his pleas, Xia Tian urged him to stop tormenting himself, stating that their problems were not his fault. He asked whose fault it was then, and offered to accept her apology, still believing they could overcome their difficulties if they faced the future together. Xia Tian remained silent. After dinner, she decided to visit her mother, Wu Yue, and Guan Xin insisted on driving her.
As they drove, Guan Xin instinctively reached for her hand, but Xia Tian's grip was unresponsive, reflecting her inner turmoil. Xia Tian told her mother, Wu Yue, that the wedding was off. Wu Yue, surprisingly calm, asked if it was because of Xu Zehao. Xia Tian expressed deep remorse for hurting Guan Xin, but Wu Yue reassured her, stating that problems in a relationship surfacing early were better than later.
She emphasized that Xia Tian's decision was paramount, regardless of what she or Guan Xin might think. Wu Yue advised Xia Tian not to fear being the "bad guy," as those who constantly try to be good often become the biggest source of pain, and that Guan Xin needed the opportunity to grow on his own. She affectionately noted that her daughter had indeed grown up.
Later, Guan Xin sat alone on a soccer field, touching the engagement ring on his finger and recalling his proposal to Xia Tian. He felt a profound sense of loss, lamenting that the Xia Tian of today seemed heartless, and their past was irrevocably gone. The next morning, Dong Hao presented Xiao Song with a new pair of shoes, tenderly helping her try them on. He explained that he had spent the entire night thinking.
He told her these shoes represented her freedom to go anywhere she wished, to choose anyone she desired, whether it was Director Yu, Tan Xu, or someone else. However, he then revealed they were a pair of couple's shoes, subtly suggesting he wanted to accompany her on her journey. Xiao Song feigned ignorance, exasperating Dong Hao, who then went jogging to clear his head, flipping a coin to predict if she would follow him.
Eventually, Xiao Song found him on the beach. She playfully demanded three reasons why he liked her. Dong Hao, with heartfelt sincerity, described her as cool, kind, and self-consistent, adding a fourth reason: "I like you." Xiao Song, though shy, admitted her feelings were mutual, marking a joyful turning point in their relationship. Meanwhile, at the launch event for Wu Yue and Director Jianmin's new book and documentary collaboration, Director Jianmin publicly confessed his feelings for Wu Yue.
Despite her initial reluctance, explaining her philosophy on marriage as a cycle of hope, disappointment, argument, reconciliation, and endurance, Director Jianmin persisted, kneeling and presenting her with roses. With the audience enthusiastically chanting for her to accept, Wu Yue, caught in the moment, agreed to his proposal to form a new family. Separately, Lu Xi had found success with her public service recording channel, garnering over ten thousand followers. Guan Xin received a package from her containing a voice recording.
In it, Lu Xi, addressing him as "Brother Xuan," apologized for her sudden departure from the welfare house. She reflected on how she had often imagined their reunion but never thought he would be by her side for so long without her knowing. She admitted to being angry at first, wondering why he left without saying goodbye and why he didn't reveal his identity upon their reunion.
However, she eventually understood that his gentleness was tinged with timidity and that he carried a heavy burden. Lu Xi forgave him, saying she had started a new life and encouraged him to shed his emotional armor, let go of the past, and live a more relaxed, happy life, loving himself more. Listening to Lu Xi's message, Guan Xin had a profound realization. He understood that he had always struggled with goodbyes, both with Lu Xi and with Xia Tian.
He admitted he had clung to a relationship that was clearly over. He finally comprehended that Xia Tian's seemingly cruel words were her way of helping him come to terms with reality, as she clearly understood her own heart, while he had not. Armed with this newfound clarity, Guan Xin found Xia Tian and, with tears in his eyes, told her, "Let's break up."
He confessed that he had hated her when he first saw the wooden box she wanted to dispose of, but now he acknowledged that their relationship had changed long ago, as had they both, and he had been too afraid to face it. They shared a tearful embrace, finally accepting the end of their difficult journey, both realizing they should have broken up much earlier.
Later, Xia Tian encountered Xu Zehao at the bustling market, where the old town project had been successfully completed. Xu Zehao stated he just wanted to see if there was anything left to help with, but Xia Tian felt he had already done too much, making it impossible to repay him.
Acknowledging the completion of the project and the end of their collaboration, she expressed her gratitude once more, thanking him for helping her find herself after their reunion, and wished him a life free of attachment and regret. Xu Zehao reiterated that his feelings remained unchanged from "that night" but urged her to live the life she truly desired—unfiltered, unconstrained, and authentically happy.
They shared a final, lingering handshake, a moment where the hands they had once so longed to hold met in a bittersweet farewell. Each knew they would likely never touch the other's hand again. As they walked in opposite directions, neither looked back to meet the other's gaze, both pressing forward with stubborn resolve. That night, Xu Zehao stood by the sea, holding the engagement ring he had once planned to give Xia Tian. With a deep breath, he cast it into the ocean, finally letting go of the past and closing that chapter of his life.
Episode 26 (Ending) Recap
One year later, a male applicant arrives at Xia Tian's studio, seeking an assistant position. As Xia Tian offers him coffee, he reveals that he has been observing her for some time, living nearby and having previously bought a chair from her studio. He openly expresses his admiration for her, stating he liked her from their first encounter and wishes to know her better.
He directly asks if she has a boyfriend, and when she confirms she is single, having recently ended a relationship, he suggests dating. However, Xia Tian candidly tells him she was dumped for cheating. His demeanor immediately changes, and he quickly takes the application form, making a swift exit. Both Xia Tian and Xu Zehao reflect on their breakup a year prior.
Xia Tian muses that the intense emotions of their separation – whether madness, guilt, or regret – are simply parts of love. She wonders if their story would have ended differently if Xu Zehao had turned back that day. Unbeknownst to her, Xu Zehao had similar thoughts, recalling how he cried for hours, secretly hoping she would return.
Later, a drunken Xia Tian called Xu Zehao, claiming to be doing great after winning the ADA award and denying she missed him, suggesting their breakup was for the best. Her call, however, went to a new number, as Xu Zehao had changed his phone and deleted her WeChat, resolving not to contact her again. Meanwhile, Donghao and Xiao Song are enjoying a sweet, openly affectionate relationship, prompting Xia Tian to playfully tell them to "get a room."
When Guan Xin calls Donghao, he tries to conceal the caller's identity, but Xia Tian encourages honesty, calling his behavior childish. Donghao then reveals to Xia Tian that Guan Xin still wears their couple ring. Separately, Guan Xin confides in Donghao, reflecting on his inability to truly understand Xia Tian and how love cannot be forced. He asks Donghao to tell Xia Tian he is thriving and doesn't miss her, while inwardly struggling.
Donghao encourages him to call Xia Tian if he misses her, but Guan Xin declines, stating that he learned from their relationship that love cannot be forced through effort; it is an illogical force, like fate. At Xu Zehao's design firm, a meeting to select a new project partner ensues. The current options are deemed unsatisfactory, and Xia Song Studio is suggested due to Xia Tian’s superior designs and their established rapport.
Xu Zehao tries to object, revealing his past relationship and breakup with Xia Tian as a reason against collaboration. To his surprise, everyone already knows about their history, even recalling a successful guesthouse project they completed together. The team decides to use Xia Song Studio as a benchmark for selecting a new partner. Later, a female client meets with Xu Zehao's team.
She praises their thoroughness and Xu Zehao’s professionalism, hinting at personal interest and suggesting a wine cellar in her basement. She also mentions hiring an ADA award-winning furniture designer who creates beautiful wood furniture. Xu Zehao, uncomfortable with her advances, politely declines her invitation for a drink. Shortly after he leaves, Xia Tian arrives for her meeting with the same client.
The client, unaware of their past, enthusiastically shows Xia Tian the design plans created by Xu Zehao’s company, gushing about Mr. Xu’s talent and handsome appearance. Xia Tian listens silently. Xu Zehao then has an awkward encounter with Guan Xin at a ramen shop. Guan Xin deliberately emphasizes his couple ring and provocatively offers to send Xu Zehao an invitation to his and Xia Tian’s wedding. Believing they are marrying, Xu Zehao leaves abruptly in a fit of pique.
Left alone, Guan Xin finds Xu Zehao's reaction amusing, but then questions the purpose of his own actions after a year. The client arranges a joint meeting with Xu Zehao and Xia Tian. Xia Tian greets Xu Zehao as if meeting for the first time, then confidently suggests a structural modification to the kitchen design to accommodate a large refrigerator.
The client, eager to please Xu Zehao, defers to his judgment and then, in a misguided attempt at matchmaking, suggests that Xia Tian might someday live in the designed house with Xu Zehao. This comment causes Xu Zehao to accidentally spray water on Xia Tian in shock. Xia Tian, realizing the client’s intentions, sarcastically acknowledges she is helping design their "love nest."
During dinner at a hotpot restaurant, Xia Tian orders for Xu Zehao, revealing an intimate knowledge of his preferences, from specific ingredients to his choice of beer. The client grows suspicious, and Xia Tian eventually reveals their 11-year history, including their five-year romantic relationship. Realizing she has been misled, the client angrily returns Xu Zehao’s gift and leaves.
Xu Zehao, enraged and having genuinely believed Xia Tian was marrying Guan Xin, confronts her, accusing her of intentionally embarrassing him and ruining his prospects. Xia Tian counters that they are "even" since he ruined her past relationship. Xu Zehao expresses gratitude for their breakup, believing it "let him go," and tells her to live her own life with a loving heart. Xia Tian responds by giving him a "wedding gift," a sarcastic retort to his earlier words.
Later, Donghao returns a box of Xia Tian's belongings and informs her that Guan Xin had lied to Xu Zehao about their impending marriage out of spite, and now wishes to apologize. Donghao tells Xia Tian to decide what to do with the box. Despite Guan Xin forbidding anyone from knowing about his departure or seeing him off, Xia Tian goes to the train station to bid him farewell.
She asks him how long he will be away, and he says "a year," then asks if she would wait for him if he returns. Xia Tian, however, takes the opportunity to finally apologize, acknowledging she has owed him one since their breakup.
Guan Xin then confesses that his time with her was neither happy nor peaceful; he was exhausted by hiding his insecurities and desperately trying to gain more of her love, mistakenly believing she and a complete family could fill an internal void. He now understands that true happiness is not given by others but must be found by facing his true self. They share a heartfelt goodbye, wishing each other happiness and care.
Mr. Yu, inspired by the love stories he has witnessed, embarks on his own blind date. His date is Xia Tian's mother’s former apprentice, now an author who has written "Love's Summer," a novel chronicling the relationships of Xia Tian, Xu Zehao, and Guan Xin. The author explains that she observed their journey, understanding that in love, there is no absolute right or wrong. She hints at an open ending.
Meanwhile, Xia Tian’s mother, deciding to live her own life, visits her late husband’s grave with Xia Tian. There, a bouquet of flowers is already placed. Xia Tian apologizes to her father for her absence and promises to visit regularly. Her mother then informs her deceased husband of her decision to remarry Director Jian, stating that she will not visit his grave with her new partner and that if they meet in the afterlife, they can pretend to be strangers.
She thanks him for their shared life but asserts her right to live the rest of her life free from past sentiment. Xia Tian is surprised to learn her mother is remarrying before she has had her first marriage, but her mother calmly dismisses her reaction, affirming her choices. Separately, Guan Xin travels to Lu Xi’s location, having tracked her through social media posts. Lu Xi, surprised to see him, asks if he got married.
Guan Xin sadly replies, "I didn't. I screwed up." Lu Xi, understanding, mentions her own secret crush on someone who had a girlfriend, then affectionately calls him "Brother Xuan." They sit together as the sun sets, finding a quiet, warm comfort in each other’s company. At a train station, as Xu Zehao takes photographs, Xia Tian unexpectedly walks into his camera frame, smiling. He questions how she knew he was there, which she playfully attributes to "fate."
As they board the train, Xia Tian deliberately sits across from him and then follows him when he attempts to change seats, refusing to let him avoid her. Xu Zehao expresses his frustration, stating he finally became "immune" to her after a year of struggle and now desires a normal life. Xia Tian, however, finds planned life boring and prefers the "fresh and exciting" element of their chance encounter.
She provocatively suggests that since both of them are "not good people," they should simply "make do" and "internally digest" each other to avoid harming anyone else. Feigning offense, Xia Tian pretends to leave to "harm others" in the world. Xu Zehao stops her, pointing out that she is conspicuously wearing items he bought for her – earrings, a necklace, and a bag – proving she "came prepared." Xia Tian acknowledges that he also hurt her.
As he firmly holds her hand, declaring she can no longer leave, Xia Tian smiles, telling him she feels most truly herself when she is with him. They embrace passionately. A narration concludes that despite experiencing two failed relationships, Xu Zehao still believes that at the right time, love will indeed find its way.
