Count Your Lucky Stars Episode 5 Recap
> Count Your Lucky Stars Recap
Tong Xiaoyou's parents rushed to the hospital after Song Ruru informed them of their daughter's car accident. Upon arrival, they overheard Xiaoyou playfully mentioning kissing Lu Xingcheng, leading them to mistakenly believe he was her boyfriend. They enthusiastically invited Lu Xingcheng to dinner at their home upon his recovery. Xiaoyou quickly dismissed her parents, then confronted Lu Xingcheng, questioning why he hadn't clarified their relationship to them.
Lu Xingcheng, learning Xiaoyou had never been in love, felt a subtle sense of triumph at having teased her. Song Ruru complained to Brother Bao about Tong Xiaoyou prioritizing romance over their friendship and questioned when her caretaking of Lu Xingcheng would end. At the magazine, the vice editor expressed frustration to the President, highlighting Lu Xingcheng's escalating actions and urging a swift decision.
The President, initially hesitant, ultimately agreed to remove Lu Xingcheng as editor-in-chief and instructed Human Resources to issue a formal dismissal letter. In the hospital, Lu Xingcheng learned of Tong Xiaoyou's plan to interview Professor Lu Ren and advised her against it, but Xiaoyou misunderstood his intentions. She saw interviewing Lu Ren, a previous critic of the magazine, as excellent public relations.
Despite Lu Xingcheng's order, Xiaoyou pointed out his dismissal, which she had seen in a company notice that morning. She argued that abandoning a challenging interview was tantamount to giving up and confidently declared her intention to interview Lu Ren, rejecting his suggestion to interview Peng Zhiqi instead. Lu Yanzhi then messaged Xiaoyou with information about Professor Lu Ren. Thrilled, Xiaoyou immediately left the hospital room, ignoring Lu Xingcheng's suggestion regarding Peng Zhiqi.
Simultaneously, Da Li called Lu Xingcheng to inform him that Sarah Lin had officially replaced him. Lu Xingcheng showed no concern and ended the call. Da Li frantically called back, pleading with Lu Xingcheng to share his location. Xiaoyou arrived at the exhibition hall as instructed by Lu Yanzhi, finding Professor Lu Ren surrounded by a crowd. Lu Xingcheng called, reminding her of the Peng Zhiqi interview scheduled for four o'clock.
Xiaoyou casually replied that Sarah Lin wouldn't allow it and hung up. The interview with Lu Ren proved difficult, ending abruptly when Lu Ren noticed Lu Yanzhi signaling him. Back in his hospital room, Lu Xingcheng conducted a phone interview with Peng Zhiqi to apologize for the missed appointment. To avoid disturbing other patients, Lu Xingcheng hobbled to the hallway on his crutches to conduct a phone interview with Peng Zhiqi, which was successful.
Through the hallway window, he saw Tong Xiaoyou being picked up by Lu Yanzhi, instead of coming upstairs to care for him as planned. Lu Xingcheng’s call to Xiaoyou was briefly answered with an excuse about needing to return to the office, causing him noticeable distress. Later, Lu Xingcheng was surprised to see Da Li and Wen Xi arrive at his room.
Spotting a camera outside, he pointedly reminded Wen Xi of his dismissal, stating he was no longer of "use value." After dismissing Wen Xi, Lu Xingcheng gave Da Li the recording of his interview with Peng Zhiqi. Da Li, noticing the echo, realized it was recorded in the hospital stairwell and commented on Lu Xingcheng's "arrogance" for staying there for over an hour. He astutely deduced it was a backup interview, prepared in case Xiaoyou failed with Lu Ren.
Lu Xingcheng dismissively claimed he wouldn't do that for someone as "unlucky" as her. Meanwhile, Tong Xiaoyou enjoyed dinner and conversation with Lu Yanzhi, a stark contrast to the quiet hospital. Thanks to Lu Yanzhi, Xiaoyou secured an interview with Professor Lu Ren. She repeatedly listened to Professor Lu Ren's previous criticisms of Lu Xingcheng and CHIC magazine, feeling a mix of anxiety and determination as she prepared for the interview.
Xiaoyou informed Sarah Lin about the interview with Lu Ren at his home, mentioning the lack of a cameraman. Sarah Lin immediately assigned Da Li to assist. Upon arriving at Lu Ren's house with Da Li, Xiaoyou discovered Lu Yanzhi was Lu Ren's son. Lu Yanzhi's mother, initially upset by the unannounced visit, was placated by her son and warned him to inform her beforehand, noting her husband's aversion to interviews. During the interview, Xiaoyou felt nervous.
Da Li pretended the camera battery died and, while "replacing" it, discreetly gave Xiaoyou an earpiece. Through the earpiece, Lu Yanzhi guided Xiaoyou's questioning of Professor Lu Ren, beginning with his past criticisms of Lu Xingcheng. Lu Ren explained that while Lu Xingcheng had a unique vision, his subjective judgment of designers, without understanding their artistic expressions, was unfair and against the spirit of design.
He also discussed plagiarism, stating that design often starts with imitation, with personal style developing over time. Finally, when asked about Lu Yanzhi's work, Lu Ren compared it to a talented young man (implying Lu Xingcheng) who had abandoned design, urging Lu Xingcheng to reconsider. He ended by praising CHIC magazine and acknowledging Xiaoyou's potential. The interview concluded successfully. After the successful interview, Xiaoyou thanked Lu Yanzhi.
On their way back, Da Li revealed that Lu Xingcheng had prepared a backup interview with Peng Zhiqi, explaining that contingency plans are crucial for important interviews. He also pointed out that Lu Xingcheng, despite his arrogance, spent over an hour in the hot stairwell recording the interview, showcasing his concern for her. Xiaoyou felt unprofessional for not having a backup plan.
Lu Yanzhi's mother remained displeased about Lu Ren granting an interview to CHIC magazine, but Lu Ren dismissed her concerns as "boring." At Brother Bao's noodle house, Tong Xiaoyou shared the day's events with Song Ruru. Song Ruru jokingly asked Xiaoyou to choose between Lu Yanzhi, the "rich and handsome" man who solved her problems, and Lu Xingcheng, the "cold-faced editor" who acted as her support. Xiaoyou seemed confused by the choice.
Later, Xiaoyou brought Lu Xingcheng noodles and thanked him. Sarah Lin called, demanding Lu Ren's article by ten o'clock the next morning, forcing Xiaoyou to start writing in the hospital room. She asked to use Lu Xingcheng's bedside table; after some playful resistance, he agreed after she loudly begged him. While writing, Xiaoyou fell asleep at her laptop. Lu Xingcheng, seeing her poorly written draft, quietly rewrote it and covered her with a blanket.
The next morning, Xiaoyou discovered the significantly improved article, deeply touched by Lu Xingcheng's effort. She offered to buy him breakfast. A nurse then informed Lu Xingcheng that he could be discharged. Lu Xingcheng, inexplicably, seemed disappointed. He even pretended to have a cold to stay, but the nurse explained the bed was needed for another patient. Later, Tong Xiaoyou's father visited Lu Xingcheng.
After discussing cooking, Lu Xingcheng told Xiaoyou that her father genuinely cared for her, suggesting communication issues were hindering her understanding of this. Xiaoyou jokingly suggested a kiss to "change her luck." As she leaned in, Lu Xingcheng whispered, "I'm being discharged, silly." Surprised, Xiaoyou rushed out to handle his discharge paperwork.
