Tong Xiaoyou never imagined her luck would drastically change after an accidental kiss with Lu Xingcheng, her editor-in-chief at CHIC magazine. Lu Xingcheng had consistently won the Fashion Icon Award for six years, always the center of attention, while Tong Xiaoyou was plagued by misfortune – constantly missing buses, running out of water while brushing her teeth, and experiencing taxi breakdowns. Desperate to transfer to the design department, Tong Xiaoyou raced to intercept Lu Xingcheng before his 9 AM departure.
She squeezed into his elevator, where he mistook her for a fan. In his hurry, he signed a document she presented. An elevator malfunction forced them close together, which annoyed him greatly. Once the elevator resumed, he quickly left. Tong Xiaoyou tried to explain her wish for his recommendation to become a fashion designer, but he was already gone.
Later, in his car with Wen Xi, Lu Xingcheng dismissed Wen Xi's suggestion that they act as a contract couple to secure more high-profile brand shows. The car radio then broadcast a segment from "The Road to Next Stop," featuring a segment that challenged Lu Xingcheng about the Fashion Icon Award. Annoyed, he ordered the driver to turn off the radio. Back at the office, Tong Xiaoyou was tasked with changing the water cooler bottle.
She used this opportunity to request a transfer to the design department, explaining she'd been in administration for two years only because the design department was full. Her manager, while acknowledging her value, refused, stating the design department was "no place for a human." Undeterred, Tong Xiaoyou used Lu Xingcheng's signature from the elevator incident to approve her transfer application. Lu Xingcheng, attending the award ceremony with Wen Xi, learned that the Fashion Icon Award went to Chengpei Yu, who'd founded her brand, Yan Ge, only last year. Wen Xi and Dali suspected foul play, mentioning Chengpei Yu's husband, Lu Ren, a highly influential professor whose students dominated the fashion industry. Tong Xiaoyou excitedly told Song Ruru she was starting in the design department the next day. The next morning, she found the department in chaos, with Dali harshly criticizing the designers, many of whom had dark circles from exhaustion. Dali introduced the team as procrastinators and slackers, confirming the "no rest" reputation. While waiting for his car, Lu Xingcheng discovered Tong Xiaoyou's design drafts.
One sketch sparked a familiar feeling, but upon seeing Tong Xiaoyou, he dismissed her work as "childish rubbish" and a waste of resources. Tong Xiaoyou, though hurt, asked for specific criticism to improve. Her earnest request resonated with Lu Xingcheng, reminding him of his own childhood desire for his mother's guidance. The next day, Lu Xingcheng had Dali deliver two of his prized books to Tong Xiaoyou, instructing Dali to monitor her reading. A jealous Dali complained but obeyed.
After finishing the books, Tong Xiaoyou understood Lu Xingcheng's criticism and had Dali convey her thanks to the editor-in-chief. Lu Xingcheng was frustrated by rumors about him and Wen Xi, which he suspected she leaked. Wen Xi tried to improve his mood by suggesting they participate in "The Road to Next Stop" to counter Mu Yang's challenges. Instead, Lu Xingcheng surprisingly assigned Tong Xiaoyou to represent CHIC as a designer on the show. Tong Xiaoyou was thrilled.
At Leopard Brother's restaurant, Tong Xiaoyou shared the news with Song Ruru, again mentioning her design dream started at fourteen, inspired by a dress called "Nike" and the encouragement of a boy she met that day. While preparing for the show, Dali offered to tell Lu Xingcheng, but he chose to watch from the rooftop. On "The Road to Next Stop," Mu Yang subtly provoked Lu Xingcheng by mentioning Tong Xiaoyou's connection to him.
Tong Xiaoyou, with Wen Xi as her model, described her ten-year dedication to design, presenting her work as a symbol of her love for design. The judges harshly criticized her garment's cut and fabric, calling it cheap. Lu Xingcheng, watching from above, saw Mu Yang's deliberate attempt to humiliate him. The next contestant, Lu Yanzhi, presented a dress named "Nike." Tong Xiaoyou was shocked, believing Lu Yanzhi was the boy from her past. The judges gave Tong Xiaoyou five zeros.
Despite the loss, she remained elated at "reuniting" with her childhood inspiration. Lu Yanzhi found this reaction intriguing. Suddenly, Lu Xingcheng appeared and confronted Lu Yanzhi, hitting him. Tong Xiaoyou tried to intervene, nearly falling into Lu Xingcheng's arms, but Lu Yanzhi pulled Lu Xingcheng away, preventing further escalation. Mu Yang, witnessing the scene, seemed aware of deeper implications surrounding Lu Yanzhi's "Nike" design.
