Long Mohua, observing Lang Yuexuan wiping lipstick from Gu Haitang's mouth, reacted with anger and sadness, driving away. Xin Qiao, also witnessing their intimacy in the warehouse, developed a stronger hatred for Gu Haitang. Shortly after, Gu Haitang, carrying a container of flower dew, was tripped by Xin Qiao, causing it to smash and spill. Master Shang, citing a lack of trust and mutual supervision among the workers, punished all the female laborers by deducting a month's salary.
The other workers blamed Gu Haitang for the incident, but she repeatedly apologized and pledged to take full responsibility, ensuring no one else would be further implicated. Disturbed by these events, Gu Haitang returned home, where her mother, recognizing her daughter's distress over matters of the heart, recounted her own love story with Gu Shunqi and encouraged Gu Haitang to boldly pursue true love.
Later that day, Long Mohua visited Gu Haitang at her home, complaining that Lang Yuexuan had been ignoring her. She implored Gu Haitang, whom she considered her best friend, to help her pursue Lang Yuexuan and to keep an eye out for any other women trying to seduce him in the workshop.
Long Mohua emphasized that her love for Lang Yuexuan was deeper and had begun earlier than anyone else's, and that she would do anything for him, subtly threatening anyone who might try to steal him. Gu Haitang was troubled by the implicit warning in Mohua's words. Shortly after, Lang Yuexuan unexpectedly arrived at Gu Haitang's door.
As Gu Haitang opened it, Lang Yuexuan stumbled over the threshold and fell into an embrace with her, a scene witnessed by Gu Xiahe, who playfully teased them. Lang Yuexuan explained that he had heard about the workshop incident and offered to lend Gu Haitang money to cover the workers' wages, wanting to alleviate her burden. Gu Haitang inquired why he would help her, to which he replied, "only because I am the boss."
She politely declined his offer, insisting on finding her own solution, which Lang Yuexuan respected. Lang Yuexuan later recounted the events to Lang Yueming, expressing his view that Gu Haitang was overly stubborn. However, Lang Yueming praised Gu Haitang as strong, honest, responsible, kind, and lovely, convinced that no one could dislike her, and he deduced Lang Yuexuan's affection for her.
When Lang Yueming directly asked if Lang Yuexuan liked Gu Haitang, Lang Yuexuan changed the subject, instead asking if having a clear goal makes one more spirited, which Lang Yueming affirmed. The next morning, Gu Haitang, having overslept, rushed to the Lang residence to style Feng Chunyan's hair. Upon arrival, she encountered Ying Ge holding a broken cup, learning that Feng Chunyan and Lang Yuexuan had quarreled earlier.
Consequently, Feng Chunyan was in a foul mood and became increasingly agitated, complaining about Gu Haitang's body odor and speaking harshly to her. When Gu Haitang accidentally dropped either a rouge bottle or hair oil, Feng Chunyan, perceiving it as an act of defiance, angrily ordered Uncle Quan to drag her out. Lang Yuexuan, however, arrived just in time and, without a word, took Gu Haitang away.
Lang Yuexuan drove Gu Haitang to a flower field in the countryside, a place he frequented to clear his mind when troubled. He curiously asked Gu Haitang if she would have accepted him if he had pursued her seriously and treated her well from the very beginning, rather than his usual carefree demeanor. Gu Haitang, feeling shy, initially replied no or was unsure.
Lang Yuexuan then posed another question: if he were to become honest, serious, and quiet, would she be with him? Gu Haitang bravely affirmed that she would, but Lang Yuexuan remained silent in response. Feeling awkward, Gu Haitang expressed her desire to return home. However, as Lang Yuexuan tried to start the car, he discovered it had broken down and he couldn't fix it.
While attempting repairs, Gu Haitang helped him by propping open the hood, but her arm grew sore. As she gazed at Lang Yuexuan, lost in thought, she accidentally let go of the hood, nearly hitting him. As the car remained unfixed, Gu Haitang grew impatient and decided to walk home.
Lang Yuexuan tried to persuade her to stay overnight by suggesting they set up a tent and attempting to scare her with stories of wolves and tigers, but Gu Haitang, disbelieving him, ran off. Lang Yuexuan followed closely, sometimes from a distance, imagining them walking hand-in-hand and playfully bickering. Gu Haitang, after wandering through the rapeseed fields, found herself back at her starting point, having gotten lost.
Not seeing Lang Yuexuan, she entered the nearby woods, where she was suddenly confronted by a wild boar that lunged to attack her. Terrified, she screamed for help. Lang Yuexuan promptly appeared, chasing the wild boar away and protecting her. Gu Haitang suspected Lang Yuexuan had been tracking her, but he feigned being lost. Hearing her stomach rumble, he produced pre-prepared meat and grilled it for her, which she ate heartily.
As darkness fell, Gu Haitang again wanted to go home, but Lang Yuexuan suggested they stay to watch the stars. As they gazed at the vast night sky, both were filled with emotion. Lang Yuexuan remarked that he and Gu Haitang were much like the stars – appearing close, yet actually very distant.
Gu Haitang eventually returned home very late, only to find her mother in a state of confusion, mistakenly believing she had been punished by her teachers at school, which left Gu Haitang feeling deeply conflicted. The next morning, Gu Haitang returned to the Lang residence to style Feng Chunyan's hair.
Feng Chunyan apologized for her previous anger and harsh words, promising never to scold her again and noting that half the household sided with Gu Haitang and everyone liked her, a revelation that greatly pleased Gu Haitang. Returning home after work, Gu Haitang discovered a multitude of betrothal gifts. Her mother excitedly informed her that a young master from the Lang family had proposed, and she had accepted, believing him to be a good match.
Shocked and disbelieving, Gu Haitang immediately ran out to seek confirmation from Lang Yuexuan. Just after Gu Haitang departed, Long Mohua arrived at Gu Haitang's house, also noticing the new gifts. When she inquired who was marrying Gu Haitang, Gu Haitang's mother was momentarily forgetful, but Gu Xiahe quickly revealed it was Lang Yuexuan. Enraged, Long Mohua immediately drove to confront Lang Yuexuan, intercepting Gu Haitang at the entrance of the Lang residence.
Without a word, Long Mohua slapped Gu Haitang, accusing her of stealing her man and asking why she would do this. Gu Haitang tried to explain, but Long Mohua refused to listen, escalating into a physical altercation. Lang Yuexuan arrived promptly to protect Gu Haitang, which only further infuriated Long Mohua, who had mistakenly believed that Lang Yuexuan's agreement to a date signified his affection for her. Lang Yuexuan sternly rebuked Long Mohua before pulling Gu Haitang into his car and driving away, leaving Long Mohua alone and crying in distress.
