Blossom in Heart Episode 5 Recap
> Blossom in Heart Recap
Early in the morning, Miaolan, the Lang family's second young mistress and wife of the deceased Lang Yueruan, attempts to comb Feng Chunyan's hair. She accidentally hurts Feng Chunyan, who, already in a bad mood, angrily pushes Miaolan's hand away, causing Miaolan to accidentally cut her face with the comb. Distressed, Miaolan encounters Gu Haitang in the garden. Seeing Miaolan's injury, Gu Haitang offers to treat it with her makeup kit and cover it with powder.
Gu Haitang observes Miaolan's beauty but also her surprising ignorance of cosmetics. Miaolan, feeling wronged, reveals she was married to the Lang family to bring good luck, but Lang Yueruan died at seven, and she has been a widow for fifteen years. She takes Gu Haitang to Lang Yueruan's memorial tablet, recounts her tragic fate, and warns Gu Haitang not to follow in her footsteps, urging her to leave the Lang family.
Gu Haitang repeatedly asks for the exact time of Lang Yueruan's death, but Miaolan impatiently sends her away. Back in her room, Gu Haitang reflects on the information, calculating that her father's disappearance occurred a year before Lang Yueruan's death. Despite this, she remains suspicious of Quan Shu and the "Rouge Ghost," secretly vowing to uncover the truth. Unbeknownst to her, a masked man watches her from outside.
The next morning, Gu Haitang successfully combs Feng Chunyan's beautiful hair using her specially formulated hair oil and skillful techniques, earning Feng Chunyan's complete satisfaction. Pleased, Feng Chunyan instructs Quan Shu to prepare a separate room for Gu Haitang, along with new clothes and daily necessities, declaring that only Gu Haitang will comb her hair from now on and she no longer wishes to see Miaolan. Meanwhile, Gu Xiahe and his friend Dapeng cycle to St. John's School.
Dapeng, captivated, points out Lang Qingqing, Lang Yuexuan's sister, calling her his goddess. Gu Xiahe, distracted by looking back at Dapeng, accidentally crashes into Lang Qingqing's bicycle. Lang Qingqing instantly recognizes Gu Xiahe as the boy who had previously looked up her skirt. Enraged, she curses him as a hooligan, physically assaults him, and demands he fix her damaged bike.
Gu Xiahe tries to explain and offers to fix her bike after school, suggesting she ride his bike, but Lang Qingqing vehemently refuses, choosing to walk to school in a huff. Gu Xiahe is left carrying her bicycle behind her. Miaolan, having overheard Feng Chunyan's decision to dismiss her and favor Gu Haitang, walks away dejectedly. She then encounters an enraged Lang Qingqing, who is cursing Gu Haitang because of her brother Gu Xiahe's actions.
Miaolan cunningly suggests to Lang Qingqing that as a Lang family young lady, her superior status means it's perfectly acceptable to teach a maid a lesson, which cheers up Lang Qingqing, who then leaves happily. That night, Gu Haitang is lured out of her room and into the garden by someone, possibly Lang Qingqing, who pretends to be a ghost or a person wearing a white mask.
While Gu Haitang is out, Miaolan takes the opportunity to enter her room and put medicine in her tea/water. Gu Haitang returns, drinks the drugged liquid, and quickly passes out. A black-clad figure then arrives, carrying Gu Haitang to her bed, or she vaguely recalls seeing a person in a black mask feeding her water.
She wakes up fine in her bed the next morning, unsure if it was a dream or reality, with drug residue on her lips, and feels her father is secretly protecting her. Gu Haitang quickly becomes close with Yingge, Feng Chunyan's maid, and they agree to become sisters. Gu Haitang uses this opportunity to ask about the manor's haunted occurrences.
After much hesitation, Yingge reveals two major secrets of the Lang mansion: the "Rouge Ghost" and the Western Pavilion, or a attic with a "Huide" plaque at its entrance, where no one knows who lives, and servants are forbidden to speak of it. Gu Haitang attempts to investigate the pavilion but is discovered and startled by Lang Yuexuan. He severely scolds her, hands her two books, and forcibly pulls her away, which only strengthens Gu Haitang's suspicions about the pavilion.
Later, Long Mohua visits the Lang mansion to ask Gu Haitang to do her makeup for a charity gala that night and invites her to attend. Gu Haitang initially declines but accepts when she learns the donations will go to the poor and that the event will offer opportunities to uncover secrets of prominent Kunyang City families, which aligns with her desire to learn the Lang family's secrets.
Elegantly dressed in evening gowns, Gu Haitang and Long Mohua arrive at the charity gala. Lang Yuexuan also attends, and Long Mohua hopes he will invite her to dance. Lang Yuexuan approaches their table, intending to invite Gu Haitang, but another rich young man asks Gu Haitang to dance first. Gu Haitang initially refuses, claiming she can't dance, but he offers to teach her, so she reluctantly agrees.
Lang Yuexuan then reluctantly accepts Long Mohua's invitation to dance, but his eyes remain fixed on Gu Haitang. During the dance, Gu Haitang clumsily kicks her partner, causing him pain and amusing Lang Yuexuan. As the music speeds up, Gu Haitang spins rapidly, separating from her partner. Lang Yuexuan seizes the chance, uses a dance move to separate from Long Mohua, catches Gu Haitang, and pulls her into his arms, swapping partners.
They dance gracefully together, leaving Long Mohua to dance with someone else. After the gala, Lang Yuexuan drives Gu Haitang home, teasing her for being entertaining and suggesting they attend another party together. Gu Haitang firmly refuses. Lang Yuexuan laughs, remarking that she is very special to him. Back in her room, Gu Haitang, unable to sleep and still preoccupied with the Western Pavilion, decides to revisit it under the cover of darkness.
She hears a melodious zither playing from within. After calling out for a long time with no response, Gu Haitang bravely opens the door and enters. The zither music abruptly stops. She proceeds to the second floor, unaware that inside, a man wearing a black mask in a corner is secretly watching her every move.
