Miaolan confronts Lang Yueming, having discerned his actions, but states her true intention is to secure her future by finding a reliable ally, which Lang Yueming accepts. Meanwhile, Gu Haitang informs Gu Xiahe that Lang Sinian was responsible for their father's death, warning him to distance himself from Lang Qingqing and Lang Yuexuan. Gu Xiahe is stunned by the revelation.
Gu Haitang vows to avenge her father and instructs Gu Xiahe to care for their mother, who is suddenly awakened by a nightmare, prompting them both to comfort her. To avoid Lang Yuexuan, Gu Haitang moves her mother to a different hospital, leaving Lang Yuexuan to find her original ward empty, unaware of their new location.
Feng Chunyan adamantly accuses Gu Haitang of tampering with the lipstick, but Lang Sinian dismisses her claims, prioritizing the urgent need to find raw materials to revitalize Langlichun. Shi Diwen leads Lang Yueming to Shi Jizhou's warehouse, which is overflowing with raw materials. Lang Yueming then accompanies Shi Diwen to visit Shi Jizhou, who discreetly dismisses his son. Lang Yueming requests raw materials, to which Shi Jizhou falsely claims he has a substantial order.
Despite this, he agrees to provide them if Lang Yueming facilitates improved relations between their families, proposing a collaboration between Langlichun and Shijilou. Lang Yueming praises Shi Jizhou's ambition and arranges to collect the materials. Subsequently, Lang Yueming purchases the raw materials at three times the original price and secretly instructs Master Shang to use only half the usual quantity. Master Shang, reluctant to violate Langlichun's regulations, complies only after Lang Yueming promises to bear all responsibility.
Shi Jizhou invites Gu Haitang to Shijilou, where he boasts about his grand ideals and attempts to persuade her to help produce Furong Cream. Gu Haitang, however, states that a page of the formula is missing, and she requires time to research and develop it, a request Shi Jizhou pledges to fully support. Simultaneously, Shi Diwen offers comfort and encouragement to a dejected Lang Yuexuan, urging him to overcome his difficulties and heartbreak.
Lang Yuexuan reveals he has already secured a new source for raw materials. Shi Diwen then discloses that Lang Yueming has already purchased materials from his father, Shi Jizhou. Gu Haitang returns to the hospital to find her mother missing from the ward. Gu Xiahe, returning from fetching water, joins her in the search.
During this time, Shi Jizhou, having learned that Gu Haitang's mother is occasionally lucid, visits the hospital to inquire about her condition, with the intention of eliminating her to prevent future complications. Gu Haitang and Gu Xiahe eventually locate their mother at the hospital entrance, and a doctor informs them she can be discharged. Lang Yueming excitedly returns home to report his acquisition of raw materials to Lang Sinian, unaware that Lang Sinian is already privy to his deception.
Lang Sinian is furious, reprimanding Lang Yueming for buying materials from Shi Jizhou at three times the market price. Lang Sinian reveals that he and Lang Yuexuan had already found a supply source in the south at less than half the market price, intending to use this to undermine the Shi family and teach Shi Jizhou a lesson, a plan he had deliberately kept secret.
Lang Sinian then confronts Lang Yueming, exposing his act of swapping vegetable oil, which caused the lipstick's poor quality, and reveals that Chuchu had provided the truth. Lang Yueming vehemently denies the accusation, but Lang Sinian, heartbroken by his son's actions, slaps him. Enraged, Lang Yueming shouts at Lang Sinian, accusing him of favoritism towards Lang Yuexuan.
Lang Yueming finally admits to swapping the oil, adding that his already damaged face cannot withstand further blows, which further pains Lang Sinian's heart, before storming out. Upon their mother's discharge and return home, Gu Haitang questions her about Shi Jizhou and presents Gu Shunqi's notebook, containing the secret formula. Gu mother immediately recognizes it as the formula dictated by Gu Shunqi (who was illiterate) and personally transcribed by her.
She recounts some of the formula, including the ingredients on the last page, but cannot recall all of it, suggesting that seeing Shi Jizhou might help her remember more. Gu Haitang promptly sets off to fetch Shi Jizhou, who readily agrees to accompany her. Coincidentally, Mr. Han (also known as Han Ruibin), sent by Shi Jizhou, arrives at the Gu family's home, having been loitering nearby.
As Gu Haitang and Shi Jizhou reach the alley entrance, they discover the Gu family home engulfed in flames. Gu Haitang bravely rushes into the burning house. Lang Yuexuan manages to rescue Gu Xiahe, but Gu mother tragically perishes in the fire. Overwhelmed with grief, Gu Haitang faints in Lang Yuexuan's arms. Amidst the crowd of firefighters, Mr. Han (Han Ruibin) is seen nodding to Shi Jizhou.
The following day, a distraught Lang Yuexuan returns home and informs his parents of Gu mother's death. Just then, Long Deshui and Shi Jizhou arrive at the Lang family residence, demanding Lang Sinian immediately travel south to attend a Chamber of Commerce stability meeting. Lang Sinian recognizes this as a trap designed to remove him and exploit the situation, and suggests Shi Jizhou attend instead.
However, Long Deshui insists that Lang Sinian, as the president of the Chamber of Commerce, must attend, claiming he has no choice. Feng Chunyan attempts to use Lang Sinian's poor health as an excuse, but Long Deshui remains unyielding, leaving Lang Sinian with no option but to agree. Long Deshui offers to personally see him off, but Lang Sinian politely declines.
Feng Chunyan realizes that Long Deshui and Shi Jizhou intend to remove Lang Sinian from power and expresses concern about the unresolved issues at Langlichun, but Lang Sinian finds himself helpless. Long Mohua, upon learning of the fire and Gu Haitang's family tragedy, visits Gu Haitang with Shi Diwen to offer comfort, promising to stay by her side. Long Mohua apologizes to Gu Haitang, acknowledging that Gu Haitang is her only true friend. However, Gu Haitang is too consumed by grief to accept her kindness.
