At the grand opening of an International Rouge Exhibition in Kunyang City, Lang Yueming vigorously promoted his family's goose egg powder to attendees, including Huajili and Smith. However, he soon learned that the Shi family was exhibiting the Lang family's proprietary Hongyan Rouge. Furious, Lang Yueming publicly confronted Shi Diwen, accusing the Shi family of plagiarizing the Lang family's secret formula. Shi Diwen, unaware of his father's actions, claimed innocence, explaining it was his father's arrangement.
Lang Yueming reported the incident to Lang Sinian, presenting him with the Shi family's Hongyan Rouge. Lang Sinian immediately recognized it as their own, noting the identical ingredients and composition. Enraged, Lang Sinian accused his sons of disgracing their ancestors' name. Feng Chunyan suspected a leak, and Lang Sinian ordered Lang Yueming to thoroughly investigate to find the mole responsible. Lang Sinian then confronted Shi Jizhou, warning him that if he continued, he would expose Shi Jizhou's past wrongdoings.
Unfazed, Shi Jizhou declared it fair competition, admitting his deep-seated hatred for Lang Sinian dating back to "that woman." He vowed to ruin Lang Sinian, see him lose his family and be utterly destroyed, and make him meet his woman in hell. Lang Yueming began questioning the female workers in the workshop one by one to identify the mole. Lu Fanzhen informed Gu Haitang that Lang Yueming was suspicious of Lang Yuexuan.
During her interrogation, Xinqiao deliberately stirred up animosity between Lang Yueming and Lang Yuexuan, speaking ill of Lang Yuexuan and subtly redirecting suspicion toward him, even sarcastically remarking on the pity of Lang Yueming's initial ideas. Lang Yuexuan, disheartened by the situation, expressed regret for not having perfected the Hongyan Rouge sooner, which allowed competitors to seize the market. Gu Haitang comforted him, encouraging him to focus on developing new products to regain market share and find a solution.
Meanwhile, Shi Diwen confronted Shi Jizhou, questioning the ethics of stealing the formula, but Shi Jizhou dismissed his concerns and strictly warned him against speaking out, harshly reprimanding him. Xinqiao reported the chaos within the Lang family to Shi Jizhou, who was pleased. Xinqiao seized the opportunity to request forgiveness for her father's past transgression of taking Shi Hanglu's money.
Shi Jizhou granted the forgiveness but refused to let her leave the Lang family, instructing her instead to remain and manipulate public opinion to frame others, thereby avoiding exposure of her own identity. At the Lang residence, Lang Sinian secluded himself, consumed by anger. Feng Chunyan grew increasingly worried, and Miaolan suggested consulting a highly effective Taoist priest to exorcise evil spirits. Feng Chunyan, unable to think of a better solution, agreed and put Miaolan in charge.
The priest arrived, performed a ritual, and left a paper figure inscribed with the character for "water," claiming that an inauspicious person with "water" in their name was the root of all the Lang family's misfortunes. Miaolan immediately went to the workshop, reviewed the employee roster, and summarily dismissed all female workers whose names contained the "water" radical. Xinqiao promptly implicated Gu Haitang, whose name "Haitang" (sea begonia) contains the character for "sea," which is related to "water."
Gu Haitang argued against this arbitrary dismissal. Miaolan reported back to Feng Chunyan, explicitly asking if Gu Haitang should also be dismissed due to the "water" in her name. Feng Chunyan ordered Gu Haitang's dismissal. Miaolan further inflamed Feng Chunyan's suspicions, accusing Gu Haitang of being the spy and the cause of all the Lang family's troubles. Believing Miaolan, Feng Chunyan summoned Gu Haitang for questioning.
As part of Shi Jizhou's machinations, Shi Diwen approached Lang Yuexuan, feigning an apology and extending an invitation from Shi Jizhou for dinner to "explain some things." Lang Yuexuan, curious about Shi Jizhou's true intentions, agreed to meet, unaware that Lang Yueming was discreetly observing their conversation. At home, Feng Chunyan confronted Gu Haitang, accusing her of leaking the formula and demanding her departure from Langlichun, the Lang family's business.
Gu Haitang affirmed she would leave but vowed to uncover the truth and clear her name. The Langlichun workshop fell into disarray, with workers being fired and pervasive suspicion, which Lang Yuexuan and Gu Haitang both found highly inappropriate. Lang Yuexuan rushed to Gu Haitang's defense, threatening to leave the Lang family with her. Gu Haitang, after vowing to find the mole, first calmly advised Gu Haitang, then went to appease Feng Chunyan.
Gu Haitang returned to the workshop to meticulously investigate, but Xinqiao remained defensive towards her. Lang Yueming, convinced of Lang Yuexuan's guilt, informed Lang Sinian that Lang Yuexuan was the mole and suspected collusion between him and Shi Jizhou. Lang Sinian, initially trusting Lang Yuexuan's character, was persuaded by Lang Yueming to discreetly observe Lang Yuexuan's meeting with Shi Jizhou firsthand.
They witnessed Shi Jizhou attempting to recruit Lang Yuexuan, offering him a box of gold bars, and explicitly calling him the Lang family's adopted son. While they overheard Shi Jizhou's propositions, they did not hear Lang Yuexuan's refusal, solidifying their belief that Lang Yuexuan was complicit. Convinced, Lang Sinian angrily departed with Lang Yueming. This entire encounter was a calculated scheme by Shi Jizhou to sow discord between Lang Yuexuan and Lang Sinian.
Lang Yuexuan, who had firmly refused Shi Jizhou's offer, then left without looking back. Upon Lang Yuexuan's return home, Lang Sinian, furious and convinced of his betrayal, subjected him to a severe scolding and a brutal beating, applying family punishment. Lang Yuexuan tried to explain that the Hongyan Rouge formula was still flawed and therefore useless even if stolen, but Lang Sinian and Lang Yueming, having witnessed Shi Jizhou offering gold bars, refused to believe him.
Hearing of the beating, Gu Haitang, Lang Qingqing, and Long Mohua rushed to intervene. Lang Sinian, enraged, ordered Quan Shu to continue the beating. Gu Haitang bravely stepped forward to shield Lang Yuexuan, offering to take the blows herself, proclaiming her involvement. Lang Sinian then ordered Quan Shu to beat her as well. Heartbroken and unwilling to see Gu Haitang suffer for him, Lang Yuexuan, in despair, confessed to betraying the Lang family.
Lang Sinian was deeply pained by this confession, which brought back painful memories from many years ago. In a flashback, Rouge, who had married Shi Jizhou, was subjected to abuse by him, as was her son. Master Shang, witnessing this, reported it to Lang Sinian. Lang Sinian rushed to intervene, preventing Shi Jizhou from killing Rouge's son.
At that moment, Shi Jizhou produced a hairpin, accusing Feng Chunyan of having murdered Rouge with it, and revealed that the hairpin belonged to Feng Chunyan. Shi Jizhou blackmailed Lang Sinian, demanding he adopt Rouge's son (Lang Yuexuan) as his own, threatening to report Feng Chunyan to the authorities if he refused.
