On the street, Ban Hua confronted Shen Yu, who was strolling with Li Xiaoru. When Li Xiaoru mistakenly assumed Ban Hua was jealous over a fan Shen Yu had given her, Ban Hua scoffed that she wasn't worthy of being her rival. Just then, Rong Xia arrived with a woman claiming to be Wang, Shen Yu’s fiancée from his hometown.

The woman publicly accused Shen Yu of being a heartless betrayer, claiming he used her family’s money for the imperial examination only to abandon her after his success. Shen Yu’s denials crumbled as she tearfully recounted their plans, turning the crowd against him. Disgusted by his deception, Ban Hua lashed him twice with her whip.

Driven to desperation, Shen Yu admitted he had only pursued Ban Hua for her beauty and wealth, viciously calling her a vulgar, extravagant, and unlucky tigress. He then broke the engagement by dramatically smashing the jade pendant her family had given him. Infuriated, Ban Hua lunged at him, intending to do more harm, but Shi Jin intervened to restrain her. Rong Xia then stepped in to escort her away.

On the way back to her residence, Rong Xia tried to console her, but Ban Hua, denying she was upset, demanded to know why he repeatedly interfered in her engagements. Rong Xia, aware that the real Wang had been taken by Prime Minister Shi's men in a matter connected to the Emperor and the Tiger Tally, could not give her a straight answer.

Ban Hua, having already deduced that the woman was an imposter, furiously accused Rong Xia of being more despicable than Shen Yu for his elaborate deception. She pressed him one last time, asking if he feared her being deceived or if he feared her getting married. When Rong Xia faltered, unable to answer, Ban Hua angrily rode off with her brother. That night, Rong Xia was still troubled by Ban Hua's question.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shi, frustrated by the loss of Shen Yu as an informant in his search for the Tiger Tally, considered impeaching the Ban family. However, his son Shi Jin advised against it, arguing Ban Hua's actions were understandable. Unbeknownst to them, Count Xie had already persuaded several officials to write memorials condemning Ban Hua for publicly whipping an official, framing it as contempt for imperial authority.

At the next morning's court session, a flurry of memorials denounced Ban Hua. Rong Xia defended her, arguing that Shen Yu's deceit was the cause. Shi Jin, as an eyewitness, supported this, adding that Ban Hua had claimed to be teaching Shen Yu a lesson on the Emperor's behalf. With the court divided, the Emperor grew frustrated. Later, the Princess Royal, Ban Hua's aunt, dramatically pleaded with the Emperor, blaming herself and asking for punishment.

The affectionate Emperor comforted her and issued an edict that stunned the court. Shen Yu was stripped of his position and honors and barred from office for life. In contrast, Ban Hua was not only pardoned but also elevated to the rank of Countess with a generous fiefdom. While the Ban family was overjoyed, the Xie family was furious.

Xie Qilin, however, pragmatically advised his father to stop their feud, acknowledging that with the Princess Royal's protection, the Emperor would never truly harm the Ban family. Shi Feixian teased her brother, Shi Jin, about his admiration for Ban Hua after he defended her in court. Shen Yu, meanwhile, became a public disgrace, reviled and assaulted by citizens, with even Li Xiaoru abandoning him.

Ban Hua had another dream about the mysterious man in black who shot her with an arrow, and the family concluded it couldn't be Shen Yu. Her mother suspected it might be Prince Luo, whose new engagement to Xie Wanyu could bring trouble. Ban Hua, however, still suspected Rong Xia. She visited his mansion on the pretext of looking for a lost cat, but Rong Xia, anticipating her move, had already acquired a cat, temporarily dispelling her suspicions.

As the royal autumn hunt approached, Ban Hua’s mother, worried by the ominous dreams, pleaded with her not to go. Ban Hua insisted, preferring to live fearlessly, and her mother gave her a protective talisman. At the hunting grounds, Shi Jin presented Ban Hua with a carved wooden bow, and they agreed to a friendly competition. Later, deep in the woods, Ban Hua accidentally stumbled upon Prince Luo in a clandestine meeting with men in black.

Snapping a twig, she gave away her position and was forced to flee. Just as she was cornered, Rong Xia appeared and rescued her. They hid in a thicket, but the surrounding flowers triggered Ban Hua's allergies. As she was about to sneeze, Rong Xia silenced her with a kiss to prevent their discovery.
