The city gates of Qifeng City were suddenly sealed shut by Hong Luan’s magic, trapping everyone inside and preventing anyone from entering. Qifeng Prefecture officials were helpless, unable to open them. Jiang Wenqing instructed Cheng Ou and Zhu Ran to guard the gates and report any developments. Meanwhile, Zhan Yan, concerned that Duanmu Residence would be unattended in Duanmu Cui's absence, headed there.

Duanmu Cui arrived at the city gates, broke through the Dragon Clan seal, and confirmed that all these actions were indeed orchestrated by Wengu. At Duanmu Residence, Zhan Yan found Xiao Qing Hua waiting outside for Duanmu Cui. He tried to console her and offered to take her inside, but Xiao Qing Hua, still upset, retorted that Zhan Yan had rescued her master from Penglai but failed to make her stay.

Zhan Yan conceded that perhaps Penglai might suit Duanmu Cui better. She vowed to continue waiting for Duanmu Cui, even in death, to be remembered as the most loyal bowl. Shortly after, Zhan Yan, having toiled day and night tending to the sick and suffering from old injuries, suddenly collapsed at the entrance of Duanmu Residence. Duanmu Cui returned to the residence, found the unconscious Zhan Yan, and was deeply distressed.

She heard him call her name in his sleep, begging her not to leave him. She silently cared for him all night, but her heart hardened as she remembered Yang Jian’s warning: her continued closeness would cause Zhan Yan to suffer mental breakdown and shorten his life, confirming that her love would ultimately harm him. She concluded that ending their bond was the only way to give him a chance to live and, with a heavy heart, she left him.

Zhan Yan later woke up, still believing she hadn't left him. However, Duanmu Cui appeared and told him she was only in the mortal realm for official duties and would not have entered Duanmu Residence if she knew he was there, asking him to respect her boundaries. Understanding her intent, Zhan Yan turned to leave, and Duanmu Cui returned his forgotten umbrella. Jiang Wenqing, weighed down by the escalating crisis in Qifeng City, suffered from intense headaches.

Madam Jiang, noticing his distress, made him a special scented sachet filled with medicinal herbs to alleviate his pain, advising him to rest and not worry excessively. Duanmu Cui visited Jiang Wenqing, offering him Penglai herbs to place in the sachet, which could temporarily ease his headaches. Jiang Wenqing, recalling Duanmu Cui’s past, probed her feelings for Zhan Yan, warning her that indecisiveness would only lead to further turmoil.

Duanmu Cui clarified that she had returned solely to resolve the demon poison crisis, acknowledging her responsibility for Wengu’s actions due to his past affection for her. She emphasized that Zhan Yan was merely a friend and that, despite his heroic efforts to save her in Penglai, she would not burden him further.

Recalling Yang Jian's words that he didn't want any of his "children" to be hurt, she reaffirmed her decision to return to Penglai once the demon poison was eradicated. Jiang Wenqing then instructed his officers, Cheng Ou and Zhu Ran, to fully cooperate with Duanmu Cui at Wengu Medical Hall. Meanwhile, Wengu, leading his demon clan, breached the Heavenly Gate, having killed the Heavenly Soldiers guarding it.

He declared his intention to take Duanmu Cui home and unleashed the demon poison on Penglai, expressing his desire for the arrogant Penglai deities to experience the same suffering as mortals. Yang Jian, failing to stop Wengu, revealed that Duanmu Cui was alive and in the mortal world, cleaning up Wengu's mess. Wengu, convinced she was dead, refused to believe him and continued his attack.

Just as Wengu was about to overpower Yang Jian, Tian intervened, saving Yang Jian and confirming that Duanmu Cui was indeed alive in Qifeng City, dealing with the demon poison, and was fully aware of Wengu's destructive actions. Wengu, finally realizing Duanmu Cui was alive, descended to the mortal world.

In Chong City, Duanmu Cui and Zhan Yan observed that the demon clan had returned to their ancestral home, still clinging to their old dreams of guarding the city after a thousand years of change. Zhan Yan comforted Duanmu Cui, reminding her that everyone must take responsibility for their own choices. Duanmu Cui went to Wengu Medical Hall, using Demonic Purge spells to temporarily suppress the poison in the afflicted citizens.

Although the patients showed immediate improvement, she realized that these charms were merely a temporary solution and would be like trying to put out a fire with a cup of water if the source of the demon poison wasn't found and eliminated. She asked about the city’s water source, which she was told was the well at the east of town. At the well, she prepared to test the water by tasting it herself.

Zhan Yan, concerned for her safety, quickly appeared and attempted to drink the water first, proclaiming he would drink it so she wouldn't have to. Duanmu Cui, despite her outward aloofness, warned him to be cautious during such a critical time. She then concluded that the water was clean and not the source of the poison, inferring the true source was underground. With no further leads, they headed to the God of Pestilence Temple.

There, she noticed the severely damaged statue of the God of Pestilence and discovered Wengu’s shed scales, confirming his presence. At the Qifeng Prefecture, Zhao Wu brought steamed buns to Zhang Long, who had been working tirelessly. He quickly noticed she was unwell and spitting blood, indicating she had contracted the demon poison. Zhang Long, desperate to protect him, confessed her illness and urged Zhao Wu to leave.

However, Zhao Wu adamantly refused, embracing her and confessing his deep love, promising never to abandon her. He believed Duanmu Cui would find a way to save them both and vowed to take her to the Sect Leader. At the God of Pestilence Temple, Duanmu Cui uncovered Wengu's gruesome act: he had killed the God of Pestilence and buried him there to spread the demon poison.

Zhan Yan tried to defend Wengu, reminding Duanmu Cui of his past as a divine doctor, but Duanmu Cui staunchly refused to accept any excuses. She declared that for a healer to harbor murderous intent made him the greatest butcher, and despite any hardship, wrongdoing remained wrongdoing, especially when it harmed countless innocent lives. She then used Samadhi Fire to cleanse the area, dispelling the demon poison. Suddenly, a poisonous rain began to fall.

Hong Luan appeared, her face noticeably aged. Duanmu Cui realized that the rain clouds were Wengu's creation, but Hong Luan confessed that she had used her own life force as a peach blossom demon to serve as a vessel, preventing the life force Wengu had collected from dissipating, all to help him revive Duanmu Cui. Duanmu Cui understood Wengu’s motive was to save her, but she firmly declared that she would not sacrifice innocent lives for personal feelings.

She vowed to personally end Wengu's life, as he was hers to deal with from a thousand years ago. Hong Luan desperately pleaded with Duanmu Cui not to harm Wengu, reminding her that he had forsaken his divinity and become the Demon King solely for her, with her being his only driving force. Duanmu Cui, however, bound Hong Luan, instructing her to calm down and wait for her return. In Qifeng City, heavy rain poured down, intensifying the crisis.

Jiang Wenqing ordered Shangguan Ce to escort Madam Jiang to safety, but Madam Jiang insisted on taking important archives with them. Meanwhile, Zhao Wu carried Zhang Long to the God of Pestilence Temple, hoping to find Duanmu Cui. They found Hong Luan still bound. Hong Luan grimly informed them that Duanmu Cui had already left Qifeng City and that Zhang Long would likely die before they could reach her. She offered her pollen to ease Zhang Long’s final moments.

Zhao Wu, however, defiantly declared that Zhang Long would not die. Zhang Long, weeping, begged Zhao Wu to leave and called him a fool, but Zhao Wu steadfastly refused to abandon her, offering himself as a chew toy if she needed to vent her pain. At that moment, Wengu, having descended to the mortal world after learning Duanmu Cui was alive, arrived at the God of Pestilence Temple and immediately demanded to know where Zhan Yan was.
