> Well-Intended Love S2 Recap
At the press conference, Ling Yizhou stunned the press by announcing his engagement to Xia Lin, declaring that "the die is cast" and that Xia Lin, his "Mumu," had long been his fiancée. Afterward, a bewildered Xia Lin confronted a smiling Ling Yizhou, questioning why their planned clarification of a scandal had morphed into an engagement announcement. Her agent, Miss Jiang, echoed her concern, asking if he understood the immense impact an engagement would have on a rising actress's career.
Ling Yizhou calmly stated it was the "most perfect" public relations solution and the only way to effectively eliminate the negative impact on both of them. He then criticized Miss Jiang for her poor handling of the initial crisis, which forced his company to manage the fallout. With the public announcement made, Xia Lin reluctantly accepted the situation but immediately asked if they would just announce a breakup shortly after.
Ling Yizhou dismissed the idea, instead proposing they sign a formal engagement agreement. Under this contract, they would act as a couple for a set period, after which they would be free. When Xia Lin asked if this was a contractual engagement, Ling Yizhou confirmed it was and gave her five minutes to decide; if she refused, they would release a breakup statement the next day.
Miss Jiang urged Xia Lin to accept, reasoning it was the best way to suppress all negative press and protect her career. After a moment of conflict, Xia Lin agreed. To make their "relationship" more convincing, Ling Yizhou suggested they immerse themselves in their roles. He had Xia Lin add him on WeChat, then cheekily took her phone and set his own name in it to "Yizhou, the Xia Family's Treasure."
Looking over at his phone, she saw he had set her name as "Mumu, the Ling Family's Treasure." The next morning, Xia Lin woke up to a "good morning" message from Ling Yizhou. She replied with an emoji, prompting Ling Yizhou, who was in a meeting, to have his assistant Wen Li send him a collection of cute emojis to spam her with in return. Later, he messaged her that he would pick her up at 5 p. m.
for her first day of fulfilling their agreement as "Mrs. Ling." He took her to a restaurant, which she noted was completely empty. Ling Yizhou explained he had booked the entire place to ensure their privacy since she didn't want to be photographed. When Xia Lin ate very little, she explained that as an actress, she had to maintain her figure to get roles.
Ling Yizhou assured her he wouldn't mind if she gained weight and would support her if she couldn't find work. After dinner, they went to a movie. Watching a high-speed chase, Xia Lin remarked how handsome men who drive fast are. Afterward, Ling Yizhou dismissed his assistant and drove Xia Lin to her company when she received an urgent message. She grew impatient with his extremely slow driving, pointing out that even pedestrians were moving faster.
When she threatened to take a taxi, Ling Yizhou asked if she really liked men who drive fast. He told her to hold on, then floored the accelerator, terrifying her as they sped to her destination. As a shaken Xia Lin got out, he asked when he should pick her up. She nervously declined and backed away, nearly tripping. He steadied her, remarking with a smirk, "See? Driving fast is dangerous," and watched in amusement as she hurried inside.
In the office, Miss Jiang shared good news: the engagement had boosted Xia Lin’s public image, with netizens sending blessings and the ratings for her show, "Closer Hearts," soaring. The next day, during a live interview, Xia Lin described her fiancé as caring and considerate, unaware that Ling Yizhou was happily watching the broadcast on his laptop.
After the show, Miss Jiang revealed she had accepted an offer for them to appear on a popular reality show, "Our Holiday," which films the daily lives of couples. Xia Lin refused, arguing their fake relationship wouldn't stand up to scrutiny. However, Miss Jiang insisted it was a crucial opportunity for exposure and that she had already committed, with a high penalty for cancellation. Xia Lin went to Ling Yizhou's office to persuade him to participate.
She argued that despite their public engagement, skepticism remained due to its suddenness. The reality show, she explained, was the perfect platform to legitimize their relationship as stipulated in their contract, especially after suspicious "supporter" comments during her live show fueled more doubt. Convinced by her reasoning, Ling Yizhou agreed. To prepare, Ling Yizhou insisted they rehearse and had Xia Lin come to his home the next day.
He presented a script Wen Li had written detailing their "first meeting," but Xia Lin found it cliché and physically implausible, joking that the scripted kiss would knock their teeth out. She proposed a simpler story: they met at an event, he was instantly captivated, pursued her relentlessly, and she reluctantly accepted. Amused, Ling Yizhou agreed to her version.
Meanwhile, actor Chu Yan, having just finished filming, was shocked to hear from colleagues that Xia Lin was engaged to Ling Yizhou. He called her for an explanation, reminding her that she didn't even seem to know Ling Yizhou at the recent party. As they spoke, Ling Yizhou called Xia Lin to the kitchen. Chu Yan heard his voice and demanded to speak with him, only to hang up immediately after Ling Yizhou said "hello."
Ling Yizhou muttered "Childish," revealing he and Chu Yan had a "fateful, troublesome connection" since they were three. Feeling a sense of déjŕ vu, Xia Lin asked Ling Yizhou if he had attended a masquerade ball two years prior wearing a gold and silver mask. He denied it, then warned her that despite their contract, he expected basic loyalty.
He moved closer, making her blush, only to playfully break the tension by reaching behind her to put an apron on her. Later, they began filming "Our Holiday." Upon arrival, Xia Lin was delighted by a pet dog, but Ling Yizhou recoiled in fear. When asked by the crew why he, a man who avoids publicity, was on the show, he bluntly replied, "To earn money to support Mumu."
The filming was soon interrupted when Ling Yizhou suffered an upset stomach. From the bathroom, he called out for shampoo and then a towel, shocking Xia Lin when she realized he was naked. The crew announced a delay, explaining that Ling Yizhou was having digestive issues and was not yet acclimatized.
