Veil of Shadows Episode 25 Recap
> Veil of Shadows Recaps
Shi Guang traveled to the Dragon Abyss with Wu Wangyan to meet with Chi Wen, recounting the heavy events of the past few days. He was consumed by guilt for his failure to transform into a dragon, especially since he carried fragments of Jiu Ying within him that threatened to control his actions. Chi Wen, however, did not blame his brother, viewing their situation as an inevitable decree of fate.
He noted that while Shi Guang could not become a dragon, Jiu Ying was equally unable to kill him, remaining eternally imprisoned within the dragon's form. When the massive dragon body erupted in a roar of protest, Chi Wen firmly suppressed the malevolent presence of Jiu Ying once more. During their meeting, Chi Wen inquired about Ji Ling and began to weave the tale of the "Dragon Deity's" true origin.
Long ago, Ji Ling was merely a small, carefree fox living at the foot of South Mountain. After accidentally swallowing a dragon scale, the artifact cured his blindness instead of killing him. Chi Wen had originally intended for whoever swallowed the scale to become a mere vessel for his own spirit, but moved by the fox's pure heart and willingness to sacrifice himself to save the world, he chose a different path.
He gathered the essences of various powerful demons to bestow power upon the fox, naming him Ji Ling—the Spirit Vessel—and tasking him with the role of the Dragon Deity. This gift granted Ji Ling immortality but condemned him to a life of profound isolation, neither fully human nor demon. As the years passed, Ji Ling took his responsibilities at the Dragon Deity Temple seriously, leaving his playful nature behind.
He eventually locked away his most cherished fox doll in the depths of a stone chamber, unaware that Lu Wuyi was watching him from the future through the eyes of that very toy. While Lu Wuyi felt the bitterness of his growing solitude, Ji Ling spent his days accompanied only by his companion Yuan Wuhuo and the young attendant, Ye Daoxuan. Eventually, the mortality of his companions began to weigh on Ji Ling.
As Yuan Wuhuo reached the end of his life, he noted a sorrowful fragrance clinging to Ji Ling, comparing the immortal’s life to that of a lonely tree rooted in one spot for centuries. Yuan Wuhuo expressed deep regret for the heavy burden placed on the "little fox," who was now trapped within high walls with no kin of his own.
Fearing the indignity of his own decay and wanting to maintain his pride like a wild beast, Yuan Wuhuo eventually left the temple under the guise of sweeping his parents' graves. He left a final letter wishing that if Ji Ling were to have a next life, he would choose to be a selfish, carefree creature of the wild. The tragedy continued as Ye Daoxuan also reached his twilight years.
On his deathbed, the faithful attendant begged for just one day of health so he could return home to see his dying wife and make amends for his years of absence. However, Ji Ling was forced to admit the painful truth: despite his title, he possessed no true divine power to grant such a wish. He could only watch in silence as his friend passed away in regret.
Plunged into utter despair by the loss of everyone he loved, Ji Ling sat before his old fox doll and mocked his own existence as a fraud. Driven by the belief that death was his only escape from eternal loneliness, he prepared to take his own life. In that critical moment of the past, Lu Wuyi made a desperate sacrifice. By severing her spiritual tail—which corresponded to her sight—she was able to channel her remaining power through the fox doll.
Her voice broke through the silence of the chamber, repeatedly whispering, "Don't be sad, don't cry; A-Wu will always be with you." This unexpected comfort shattered Ji Ling’s despair and gave him the courage to continue his path, effectively altering the destiny of the man who would become the Dragon Deity. In the present, Ji Ling’s consciousness encountered Jican, his own inner demon born from a century of isolation.
Jican revealed that Lu Wuyi had successfully rewritten the beginning of their story by sacrificing her tail to save him in the past. Realizing that the "A-Wu" he had cherished was indeed Lu Wuyi, Ji Ling was overwhelmed with emotion. Jican, who was the manifestation of a dragon scale and held the world's last trace of the Dragon Deity's Power, admitted that he could now disappear because Ji Ling was finally truly loved by someone willing to die for him.
However, a cruel choice remained: because Lu Wuyi’s existence was tied to Jiu Ying, the power could either be used to fulfill his mission of killing the beast—which would end Lu Wuyi's life—or it could be used to save her. As the night deepened, the corrupted Yuan Wuhuo infiltrated the Shilin Sect with the intent to assassinate the unconscious Ji Ling, claiming he wanted to free him from his "false deity" status.
Ye Changsheng stood his ground to protect his master but was ultimately struck down and killed. Yuan Wuhuo then moved toward the Scale Cave, where Bai Ze exhausted his remaining core energy to defend the entrance. Although Yuan Wuhuo mocked the demon's weakness, Bai Ze revealed a final trump card. He had previously entrusted Ye Changsheng with the Purple Lightning Chain, which the young man had successfully attached to Yuan Wuhuo’s blade during their struggle.
This move neutralized the weapon's power, allowing Bai Ze to strike a decisive blow against the intruder. Despite the heavy losses, the legacy of the Ye family’s devotion remained unbroken as they fought to hold the line until Ji Ling finally awoke.
