Dissatisfied with the candidates, he was about to leave when Coach Ma introduced Xiao Qing, who had just returned from Korea.
A former national youth champion in pair skating, Xiao Qing demonstrated a flawless Triple Toe Loop and a beautiful Biellmann spin on the ice. At a local ice rink, Xiao Han observed Shen Zhengyi practicing her curves. He noted her instability at high speeds and offered detailed guidance, explaining that proper bend control relies on a combination of speed, technique, strength, and core balance.
He recorded her skating to point out flaws, such as her upper body tilting too soon and incorrect blade angles, advising that she needed to train in a professional facility. Zhuang Yue witnessed his intense focus on Shen Zhengyi and questioned his judgment, viewing Shen Zhengyi's aggressive, reckless approach as a "ticking time bomb" that could endanger others. Xiao Han vehemently defended her, highlighting her natural talent and immense solo effort.
He argued the team needed her fighting spirit and pledged to take full responsibility for any risks. Persuaded, Zhuang Yue reluctantly agreed to let Shen Zhengyi join the team, but with a specific condition. Shao Beisheng soon arrived, asking her to pretend to be his girlfriend. He bizarrely reasoned it was a "safe" arrangement since neither of them would develop feelings for the other. She then told Shen Zhengyi that, as a trial member, she must rank in the top three among new members to remain on the team. Zhuang Yue also announced a change in coaching assignments: she would train the old members, while Xiao Han would train the new ones.
Shen Zhengyi requested to continue her training under Xiao Han, but Zhuang Yue firmly rejected this, asserting that all training plans were now under her sole direction. During the subsequent training, Zhuang Yue rigorously pushed the new members on their curve technique.
