After returning to Nanping Town, Zhuang Jie gave the family shop a simple makeover, expanding it from two rooms to three. She also hired a marketing team to promote their braised chicken, which soon became a moderately famous internet sensation. Business grew increasingly prosperous, and some people no longer dared to look down on the women of the Liao family.

Granny Chen chatted with an old friend, sighing that her grandson, already thirty, lived a monotonous life between home and work, indifferent to desires. Though she thought highly of Zhuang Jie, it was a case of the eunuch being more anxious than the emperor. Granny Lin advised her to take it easy. It turned out the deceased woman had discovered her husband was having an affair and, in a fit of anger, drank pesticide and ended her life. By the time her husband’s family discovered it, her body had already stiffened. They neither took her to the hospital nor informed her natal family, but directly contacted the funeral home. Once the natal family found out, they brought relatives and friends to confront the husband’s family, leading to a physical fight.

Chen Maidong tried to mediate but got punched by the deceased’s husband. Seeing the situation, Zhuang Jie rushed over and slapped the man. Enraged, he tried to hit her, but Chen Maidong got angry too and was about to retaliate when a group of men in black suddenly appeared. The young man leading them was named Cui Ge, who seemed to hold some authority. The deceased’s husband immediately bowed and scraped upon seeing him, his arrogance fading.

Cui Ge, being relatively reasonable, scolded the husband in front of everyone and told Zhuang Jie to take Chen Maidong to stop the nosebleed. Zhuang Jie accompanied Chen Maidong to the lounge and learned that being a mortician was no easy task. He often dealt with cases involving severe decomposition or accidents, sometimes unable to leave for days. His protective suit would be soaked through, and both body and mind were constantly tested.

Likewise, accompanied by Zhuang Jie, Chen Maidong had a warm little birthday, eating cake together. When he walked Zhuang Jie to the door, he saw the deceased’s son sitting alone in the lobby. He took off his coat and gently draped it over the boy—a heartwarming moment. Before leaving, Zhuang Jie asked Chen Maidong what kind of birthday gift he wanted. Unable to refuse anymore, he told her to buy clothes for him.

That night, Zhuang Jie gossiped about Chen Maidong with Wang Xixia, who complained about meeting a man from a family of traditional Chinese medicine on a blind date, her expression full of disdain as she mentioned him.
