The Song of Glory Episode 6 Recap
> The Song of Glory Recap
After falling into the lake, both Shen Lige and Liu Yikang were unharmed, though Liu Yikang sustained minor injuries. Shen Lige found a secluded hut and diligently searched for herbs through the night to stop his bleeding and bandage his wounds. Liu Yikang observed her cool exterior but kind heart, teasing her while expressing his concern. He remarked that every time they met, either she was killing someone or someone was trying to assassinate her, calling her "busy."
When Shen Lige told him to "quit the nonsense and take off your clothes" to apply medicine, he responded with playful remarks about her roughness and future marriage prospects, to which she curtly replied, "Shut up!" He continued to comment on his torn robe, and she retorted that it couldn't be more expensive than his life, reminding him to extinguish the fire before leaving. Before she could depart, Liu Yikang, noticing her own injured hand, offered her Jinchuang ointment.
Annoyed, Shen Lige questioned why he hadn't mentioned having the medicine earlier, forcing her to go to great lengths. She internally thought she would have silenced him if not for his injuries being caused by her. He then asked for her name, but she simply stated "Heroine" and left, calling him "Old Man." Annoyed, Liu Yikang questioned, "Old Man? Who's an Old Man?" As soon as Shen Lige departed, Xu Zhan and others who had been hiding emerged.
They reported to Liu Yikang that the assassins were not sent by Lu Yuan but were rather a group of figures from the underground community. Back in Jiankang City, Xie Hao persisted in his opposition to Liu Yikang's decree, citing ancestral rites and the kingdom's foundation. He presented a joint petition, urging Liu Yikang to revoke the decision against marriage between nobles and commoners. However, Liu Yikang remained unmoved by Xie Hao's arguments.
When Xie Hao claimed his petition was for the state and clan, Liu Yikang noted that he had thought it was for the sincerity of the Head of the Secretariat towards his younger sister, the princess consort. Liu Yikang then instructed San Bao to ask Prince Jing Ling (Liu Yixuan) to deliver the imperial marriage decree to the Shen family in his stead. Shen Lige returned to San Jiu Hall and found her master, Xu Lin.
Recalling A'Nu's death, she confronted him, demanding to know why he allowed A'Nu to die in her place. Xu Lin expressed his profound sadness, explaining that he too was heartbroken but had no choice. He reasoned that in a time when treacherous officials held power and the common people suffered, personal sacrifices were necessary for the greater good of a clear realm and peaceful lives.
Seeing Prince Peng Cheng's marriage as a unique opportunity, Xu Lin urged Shen Lige to marry Liu Yikang under the identity of the Shen family's legitimate daughter and assassinate him to complete their mission. Shen Lige hesitated, unwilling to implicate the Shen family or let the sacrifices of her companions be in vain. She ultimately agreed to enter Prince Peng Cheng's manor but insisted on personally planning the assassination for the wedding night to ensure the Shen family's complete safety.
Xu Lin consented to her demand. As the wedding approached, officials sent celebratory gifts to the Anbei General's manor, drawing large crowds. Lu Yuan, meanwhile, instructed A'Ling to impersonate a maid and brought her to the Shen manor to identify Shen Lige as an assassin. Upon hearing of Shen Lige's return, Shen Leqing's joyful anticipation of marrying into the royal family vanished. The entire Shen household welcomed Shen Lige, whose heart warmed at their worried expressions.
She then openly accused Shen Leqing of hiring assassins to ambush her outside the city, aiming to kill her. Shen Leqing vehemently denied the accusation. In response, Shen Lige had Guo Fu, Shen Leqing's gambling-addicted uncle, brought in. Under pressure, Guo Fu confessed that Shen Leqing had ordered him to arrange the assassination. Shen Lige then suggested reporting the matter to the Judicial Commandant.
Knowing the Commandant's severe methods, Shen Leqing panicked and pleaded with the family to prioritize the bigger picture, fearing that news of this scandal would cause controversy among court officials so close to the wedding date. While the family debated, Prince Jing Ling (Liu Yixuan) arrived with the imperial decree. After much deliberation, Shen Tingzhang decided to have Shen Leqing accept the decree to avoid further complications.
Shen Leqing, believing she had averted disaster and secured her title as secondary consort, was then blindsided by Lu Yuan's sudden arrival. He publicly challenged her identity, stating she was not General Shen's biological daughter but an adopted one from a merchant family, thus of "lowly status" and unworthy of marrying into the royal family. When Shen Madam tried to defend Shen Leqing, Lu Yuan brought forth Nanny Song from the orphanage and the jade craftsman from Yu Tai Xiang.
The jade craftsman recounted how General Shen had commissioned a unique Magnolia jade bracelet eighteen years ago for his newborn daughter and how Shen Madam recently had it repaired, confirming the return of their long-lost biological daughter. Nanny Song also testified to Shen Madam's recognition of the girl with the jade bracelet as her biological daughter.
Lu Yuan then accused the Shen family of deceiving His Majesty by intending to let an adopted daughter marry Prince Peng Cheng while their true daughter had been found, a grave crime. Unwilling to see the Shen family suffer for such an offense, Shen Lige stepped forward and admitted her true identity as the legitimate daughter. Lu Yuan, feigning congratulations, instructed A'Ling to present a gift to Shen Lige, hoping she would identify her as an assassin.
However, Shen Lige and A'Ling, fellow disciples, exchanged a prearranged signal. A'Ling pretended not to recognize Shen Lige, which Shen Tingzhang observed. With his plan foiled, Lu Yuan left with his people. Shen Lige then accepted the imperial decree as the true legitimate daughter, leaving Liu Yixuan visibly disappointed. Shen Leqing was confined to the woodshed for reflection, but her heart was now consumed by hatred and jealousy.
She vowed to reclaim everything Shen Lige had taken, by any means necessary. Later, Shen Lige reassured her mother, promising to be cautious and avoid trouble after marrying into the imperial family, emphasizing her strength and resolve and that she would take care of herself. Shen Lige later returned to San Jiu Hall and informed Chen Shaoxun that A'Ling was alive.
She explained that Lu Yuan had brought A'Ling to the Shen manor, attempting to force her to identify Shen Lige as an assassin, but A'Ling refused. Shen Lige expressed her determination to rescue A'Ling, who was undoubtedly in grave danger in Lu Yuan's custody. Chen Shaoxun, after giving her some medicine for her mother, cautioned Shen Lige, warning that Lu Yuan was likely setting a trap and that any impulsive action would play into his hands.
He stressed the importance of carefully planning their next move, especially given Shen Lige's impending marriage. Shen Lige, however, insisted, stating they had already lost A'Nu and other comrades, and she could not abandon A'Ling. Chen Shaoxun agreed to help but made her promise to follow his arrangements. He then instructed Kong Cheng to retrieve the map of Lu Yuan's manor and inquired about any new weapons.
Chen Shaoxun then began discussing strategy, noting that Lu Yuan's dungeon was heavily guarded and any direct movement would be met with full force, hinting at a more subtle approach. Meanwhile, Liu Yikang, intrigued by Shen Lige, secretly ordered Xu Zhan to investigate her identity, despite the only clue being the name "Heroine." Wan'er noticed Liu Yixuan's distress and gently advised him to be open about his feelings to avoid future regrets.
Taking her words to heart, Liu Yixuan arranged to meet Shen Lige. He expressed his gratitude for her past assistance and offered to help her cancel the marriage if she was unwilling to marry into the royal family. However, Shen Lige, expressing her thanks, subtly declined, stating her mind was already made up for the wedding.
She told him that Lu Yuan was pressuring the Shen family, and no matter what, one of the daughters had to marry, so she didn't want the Shen family to get into more trouble. Liu Yixuan then offered his friendship and support if she ever needed help in the future. As Liu Yixuan returned to his manor, he encountered and rescued a young woman named Xiao Xin from Captain Xue's pursuit.
Xiao Xin revealed that her parents, who worked on Lu Yuan's estate, had gone missing several months ago. She was trying to report their disappearance when she was attacked. This incident connected to previous reports of several missing laborers, all linked to Lu Yuan. Liu Yikang was informed and ordered his men to continue monitoring Lu Yuan's residence but to hold back from immediate action. Concurrently, Lu Yuan received news of Liu Yixuan rescuing Xiao Xin.
He instructed Xue Qiu to handle Xiao Xin's parents, either bribing them or silencing them permanently, but to leave Xiao Xin alone, as she knew nothing important. He also confirmed that A'Ling was still alive and being tortured, but she had not betrayed their organization.
Lu Yuan reiterated his strategy: he had brought A'Ling to the Shen manor not to force an immediate identification, but to let Shen Lige know her comrade was alive, ensuring Shen Lige would eventually attempt a rescue, thus walking into his trap to ultimately bring down the Shen family. He ordered the prison guards to be prepared according to his arrangements.
