The First Frost Episode 19 Recap
> The First Frost Recap
During the Freshman Winter Vacation, at a Nanwu University alumni reunion for Nanwu High School students, Su Hao'an enthusiastically announced that he was in a relationship. Others teased him, remarking that he had always had girlfriends since high school. Feeling bored by the chatter, Sang Yan stepped outside. He overheard Zhong Siqiao on the phone with Wen Yifan, asking why she wasn't returning to Nanwu for the winter break and if she was dating.
Wen Yifan clarified that she was not in a relationship but had started playing a mobile game, and her in-game name was "Warm Water" on the "Unrivaled" server. Upon returning home, Sang Yan immediately downloaded the same game and created an ID for himself: "Bai Jiang." Later, back in Beiyu after they had confirmed their relationship, it was late, and Wen Yifan booked Sang Yan a room on the same floor as hers.
Sang Yan insisted she come to his room. Wen Yifan initially felt it might be too soon to enter his personal space after just starting their relationship, but she went in. Sang Yan expressed his concern over her recent weight loss and a cut behind her ear, noting how long it had taken him to help her gain weight. Wen Yifan assured him the injury was not serious, just a minor scrape.
Sang Yan then revealed he had come to collect his birthday gift. As Wen Yifan turned to look for her phone, he took the opportunity to kiss her. When Wen Yifan later asked for his birthday wish, Sang Yan simply replied that it had already come true. He ordered several pizzas for them, suggesting they eat slowly to prolong their time together.
The following day, Sang Yan posted a screenshot of a cake on his WeChat Moments, announcing he had a girlfriend. Zhong Siqiao quickly informed Wen Yifan, who happily confirmed that she was indeed Sang Yan's girlfriend. Zhong Siqiao was astonished at how quickly Wen Yifan, with her usually slow-paced personality, had progressed in her relationship. The next morning, as Wen Yifan and her colleagues prepared to leave Beiyu, Sang Yan joined them.
He openly held Wen Yifan's hand, publicly declaring their relationship. Mu Chengyun, one of Wen Yifan's colleagues, questioned Sang Yan's approach, suggesting it might put pressure on Wen Yifan. Sang Yan calmly clarified that they were "mutually attracted," a phrase Wen Yifan herself had used to describe their feelings. Wen Yifan offered to drive, but Sang Yan insisted on taking the wheel, wanting her to rest after her busy work trip.
Meanwhile, Zhong Siqiao was feeling melancholic after rejecting Su Hao'an's confession. She found herself feeling a void when he wasn't around, unsure of her true feelings for him. Su Hao'an, determined to understand Zhong Siqiao better, added Xiang Lang on WeChat, explaining he was too afraid to ask Wen Yifan in case Zhong Siqiao found out and got angry.
He had previously told Zhong Siqiao he no longer wanted to be just friends, expressing his desire to be her boyfriend and telling her he was waiting by Anhe Bridge near her house. However, when Zhong Siqiao went outside, she unexpectedly ran into Xiang Lang, who had just returned from Hong Kong for a vacation and had come to see her. They went to the bridge together, where Su Hao'an was shocked to see Xiang Lang with Zhong Siqiao.
Xiang Lang quickly clarified that he and Zhong Siqiao were, and always would be, the best of friends. Despite this, Su Hao'an again tried to confess his feelings. However, Zhong Siqiao, affected by Su Hao'an bringing up her past rejection from Xiang Lang, once more turned down Su Hao'an, who then left dejectedly. Xiang Lang later confided in Su Hao'an that Zhong Siqiao, despite her cheerful exterior, often concealed her true unhappiness and always put others' needs before her own.
He noted that she meticulously remembered everyone's birthdays and preferences, and while she might not always be the center of their group, she was undeniably essential to them. He also revealed that a significant source of her sadness during high school was her parents' divorce. Back home in Nanwu, Wen Yifan finally presented Sang Yan with his belated birthday gift: a camel-colored coat.
Although it was a color he hadn't worn before, he was pleased with it, humorously ranking it as his second favorite gift. His first, he admitted, was Wen Yifan herself, the gift he received the day before. Sang Yan then carefully applied medicine to Wen Yifan's ear wound. He playfully suggested she come to his place after her shower the next day, only to quickly clarify that it was for him to apply more medicine.
Since officially confirming their relationship, Wen Yifan found herself frequently smiling. Mu Chengyun, still skeptical of Sang Yan, expressed concern that Wen Yifan might be settling for less. However, Wen Yifan confidently affirmed her happiness, revealing that she had harbored a crush on Sang Yan since high school but had never admitted it. Later, Sang Yan invited Wen Yifan to join him at his "Overtime" bar.
Zhong Siqiao, nervous but excited, also accompanied them, eager to see Sang Yan in his new role as her best friend's boyfriend. At "Overtime," the business partners present remained oblivious to Sang Yan and Wen Yifan's relationship, despite Sang Yan's protective gestures and his indirect reference to his "sister-in-law" when talking about the coat she bought him. Sang Yan noted their obliviousness and decided they would make a formal announcement at a more suitable time.
Afterward, Wen Yifan and Sang Yan visited a small jiaozi shop. Despite her preference for mild flavors, Wen Yifan thoughtfully ordered a richer, spicier jiaozi for Sang Yan, imagining it was what he would enjoy. Sang Yan relished the meal. He then pointed out a Ferris wheel outside the window and promised to take her on it once they finished eating.
