The First Frost Episode 12 Recap
> The First Frost Recap
Years ago, Wen Yifan traveled for her art examination, with Sang Yan accompanying her. He secured a hotel room for her, and then, despite the heavy snow, chose to stand guard outside the building to ensure her safety. While Wen Yifan practiced her dance, radiating genuine happiness, and later displayed confidence on stage during her exam, Sang Yan remained her steadfast companion and protector.
In the present, Wen Yifan presented a recorded video message to Yuqing's mother, conveying Yuqing's plea for her mother to stop seeking her out. Wen Yifan also handed the mother an envelope on Yuqing's behalf. The mother tearfully acknowledged it as money meant to buy her daughter's freedom, and Wen Yifan urged her to let her daughter go and begin her own life.
Back at work, while Wen Yifan was editing the video, Mu Chengyun approached her, inviting her to his welcome party. Wen Yifan was initially reluctant to attend, but her colleagues’ enthusiastic insistence, coupled with her director, Mr. Gan, personally driving her, eventually swayed her. Mr. Gan, referencing her past experience at Yihe Daily, assured her that he would not tolerate any harassment in his department. The party was held at a restaurant called "Overtime," and the atmosphere quickly became lively.
Later, Sang Yan arrived after work. The bartender directed him upstairs to where his friends were. He spotted Wen Yifan from the staircase, looking relaxed and happy. Mu Chengyun then joined her, expressing a desire to stand on her left, claiming it would bring him closer to her heart. Meanwhile, other colleagues discussed Sang Yan, identifying him as a prominent alumnus from Nanwu University's Computer Science department.
They recalled his graduation dinner where, unlike his friend Duan Jiaxu who didn't drink, Sang Yan had inexplicably consumed over ten bottles of alcohol. They noted he seemed to be in a bad mood that night, drinking alone and saying little. As the party wound down, Mu Chengyun, feigning drunkenness, leaned heavily on Wen Yifan as they descended the stairs.
Sang Yan suddenly appeared, firmly pulling Mu Chengyun away from Wen Yifan and ushering him into the back of his car. When Mu Chengyun mumbled that he lived at Nanwu University, Sang Yan drove him there. Sang Yan easily recognized Mu Chengyun's pretense, scoffing that he had used such "tricks ages ago" before carrying him to the university gates. Feeling a bit tipsy herself, Wen Yifan worried about Mu Chengyun, but Sang Yan reassured her he was merely faking.
This brought back a memory for Wen Yifan from high school when Sang Yan had once pretended to be drunk after a party, making her struggle to help him home, only for him to confess that he had only been drinking a soft drink. The recollection made her smile, and Sang Yan appeared a bit embarrassed. Upon returning to their apartment, Wen Yifan stumbled out of the elevator and fell directly into Sang Yan's arms.
He playfully suggested she might be trying to pursue him, offering to consider her if she were more direct. Wen Yifan quickly dismissed the idea, promising to inform him if she ever developed such feelings. Sang Yan advised her to drink less, prompting Wen Yifan to remind him of his own heavy drinking at his graduation, calling him the "real drunkard."
The truth was that they had broken up that day, and Sang Yan, heartbroken, had drowned his sorrows in alcohol. He prepared some honey water for her, and as she drank it, a memory of her father doing the same stirred a bittersweet feeling. She then told Sang Yan that if the renovations at his own apartment still bothered him, he was welcome to stay longer.
Lying in bed, Wen Yifan recalled her colleagues' comments about Sang Yan’s intense drinking at graduation. Realizing her actions had caused his pain, she began to feel she had been unfair to him. In a hazy state, she mistook her cat for Sang Yan and softly whispered that she would treat him better from now on. Later that night, Wen Yifan got up for water, and Sang Yan, already awake, speculated aloud about the triggers for her sleepwalking.
Hearing him, Wen Yifan, seized by an impulsive desire not to hold back as she had in the past, deliberately pretended to be sleepwalking and embraced Sang Yan. He responded by hugging her back. The following morning, Sang Yan made porridge. Wen Yifan, still embarrassed by her actions, tried to make a quick escape.
Sang Yan, however, teased her relentlessly about her "restrained" sleepwalking embrace, accusing her of having plenty of excuses in the past and even trying to "pay him off." He joked about "beasts" in the house and suggested she lock her door to prevent future incidents, questioning if this was a new method of flirting. Wen Yifan steadfastly maintained that her sleepwalking was genuine.
After she rushed through breakfast, Sang Yan offered to drive her to the TV station, as he had a meeting nearby. In the car, he continued to tease her about possibly lifting his shirt during her sleepwalking, which she vehemently denied. She promised to see a doctor about her condition when she had time. As they arrived at the TV station, Sang Yan noticed Mu Chengyun approaching.
Quickly, he reached out and gently touched Wen Yifan’s head, claiming she had something on it. Later that day, Mu Chengyun waited for Wen Yifan after work. He told her that since her roommate's lease was reportedly ending, he was interested in co-renting her apartment and insisted on seeing it. Despite Wen Yifan's discomfort, Mu Chengyun followed her home, only to find Sang Yan already there. Sang Yan's expression immediately hardened upon seeing Mu Chengyun.
