> The Demon Hunter's Romance Recap

Zi Kong brought the characters of "Gan Shan Tang" he had copied down and asked a few children to help identify them. He learned that Gan Shan Tang was located in the Divine Capital. Jiu Xuanye, feeling down, was drinking alone when he happened to be seen by Chu Youhuang. Chu Youhuang approached him.

Jiu Xuanye saw through him, realizing that Chu Youhuang was actually reluctant to part with Sima Lingying, though he couldn’t see it clearly from within the situation. Chu Youhuang didn’t want to talk about it, instead asking Jiu Xuanye whether he often thought about the world inside the painting. At that moment, someone came to report that a corpse had been found in the outskirts. Chu Youhuang and Jiu Xuanye hurried over, only to find fragmented bones.

Except for the skull, all the bones were shattered, as if crushed by something heavy. At the scene, they also found a tag with the name "Zhang Pu. " Zhang Pu had purchased a nominal position at the yamen, was the only son in his family, his parents were deceased, and he had a wife named Xing Xian. Chu Youhuang and Jiu Xuanye went to see Xing Xian and learned that Zhang Pu hadn’t come home for six months.

He used to drink a lot and often disappeared for several months, so his family hadn’t paid much attention. Chu Youhuang informed Xing Xian to go to the yamen to claim the remains. At that moment, a man named Lü Sanlang passed by the doorway. He and Xing Xian exchanged glances, both clearly avoiding each other’s eyes, which Jiu Xuanye noticed. But suddenly, Lü Sanlang fell and hit the back of his head on a stone, dying instantly.

Ban Xia arrived just in time to see a white crow flying away. Xu Zhizhi and Ban Xia had been chatting on the street when she noticed the white crow on Lü Sanlang’s shoulder and chased after it out of curiosity, witnessing his death. Ban Xia blamed herself for this incident. Chu Youhuang and Wen Jian comforted her, believing she had a kind heart and that the matter wasn’t her fault.

When Ban Xia was walking back with Jiu Xuanye, Xu Zhizhi felt something odd between the two. When Ting Zhou mentioned that Ban Xia liked Jiu Xuanye, Xu Zhizhi even offered to have dinner together to play matchmaker, but Jiu Xuanye declined and left alone. Chu Youhuang discussed the case with Wen Jian but seemed distracted. Wen Jian couldn’t help asking about it, and Chu Youhuang confessed his inner conflict.

His wife in the painting was Ban Xia, and ever since leaving that world, he hadn’t been able to let go. He wasn’t sure whether Ban Xia had moved on. Wen Jian believed Ban Xia didn’t care about the world inside the painting, because from beginning to end, she had only liked Jiu Xuanye, and Jiu Xuanye liked Ban Xia as well. Wen Jian urged Chu Youhuang to cherish the one before him. Jiu Xuanye remained depressed after returning.

Previously, Duan Yingheng had personally thanked him and even knelt in gratitude, willing to repay Jiu Xuanye’s life-saving grace with anything—except Ban Xia’s lifelong happiness. Duan Yingheng did not approve of Jiu Xuanye’s background, mainly because Jiu Xuanye was a demon hunter. Zi Kong arrived at a main street in the Divine Capital and bumped into a man who tried to extort him. Zi Kong kicked the man away, just as Sima Lingying, who was eating nearby, saw him.

She was convinced Zi Kong was a demon and had pre-applied the insect oil that Jiu Xuanye gave her onto her dagger. Pretending to give directions, she lured Zi Kong into the Dali Temple courtyard, planning to slay him there. But Zi Kong managed to escape the ambush. Li Xian went to pick up his fiancée and was attacked by wolves in the forest on the way.

He was rescued by Jiu Xuanye, who at the time didn’t know the one Li Xian was going to fetch was Ban Xia. After Xing Xian’s husband died, some relatives slandered her for having an affair and tried to drive her out. Xing Xian exposed their intentions—wanting to seize her property—and was beaten by them. Ban Xia, who happened to be visiting Xu Zhizhi, witnessed this and stepped in to help chase them away.

She asked Xing Xian whether she knew Lü Sanlang, but Xing Xian shook her head, so Ban Xia left for now. Zi Kong, knowing that the insect oil was with Sima Lingying, abducted her and questioned whether she knew Man Ying. Seeing her shake her head, Zi Kong suddenly recalled hearing Ban Xia call out Jiu Xuanye’s name that day and asked whether she knew Jiu Xuanye.

At first, Sima Lingying denied it, but seeing that he was serious about killing, she reluctantly agreed to take him to Jiu Xuanye. Jiu Xuanye escorted Li Xian to Ban Xia’s house, only then realizing that the bride was Ban Xia. He quietly left without a word. Ban Xia ran after him to explain—she had originally asked her father to call off the engagement but didn’t know why they still came. Jiu Xuanye didn’t say much.

Xing Xian, touching the mirror and fixing her makeup, prayed to the Bodhisattva. She had been abused by Lü Sanlang and her husband and had prayed to the Bodhisattva twice, who helped her both times. She had hoped to start a new life, but now she was being mistreated again. Xing Xian felt it was too hard to be a woman and hoped to be a man in the next life. This was her final prayer to the Bodhisattva.

When Ban Xia came to see Jiu Xuanye, she heard from Chi Xue that Jiu Xuanye had gone fishing. She brought an umbrella and went looking for him, only for Jiu Xuanye to suddenly declare that they should end things between them.
