The Brightest Star in the Sky Episode 19 Recap
> The Brightest Star in the Sky Recap
Following the rooftop incident, Fang Yiran visited the hospital and shared stories about Zheng Baixu's childhood with Yang Zhenzhen. She expressed surprise at his recent heroic actions, noting a significant positive change in his personality, which she attributed to Zhenzhen's influence. Yiran observed that he now cherished his fans and had become more caring, a stark contrast to his past self.
She recalled that as a child, Baixu was short, skinny, and timid, often bullied and requiring her to defend him. Their father was frequently away on business, and after their mother, who was in poor health, sent Yiran to boarding school, she was left to care for Baixu by herself. During a blackout in their newly built villa, a candle their mother forgot to extinguish caused a fire.
Six-year-old Zheng Baixu was rescued by neighbors, but his mother tragically died in the blaze. The subsequent interviews by journalists, with their flashing lights and probing questions, terrified the young boy, who could only cry loudly, instilling in him a deep fear of fire and a lasting dislike for reporters.
Yiran further revealed that Baixu had never had a girlfriend, largely because his father had taught him that "a man must be strong" and "never admit he's wrong," which hindered his ability to communicate effectively. Despite this, Yiran had noticed a significant transformation in him lately; though he often spoke negatively about Zhenzhen, he consistently acted according to her suggestions, revealing a "sharp mouth but a soft heart."
Yiran concluded that Zhenzhen truly understood him and held an important place in his heart. While Zheng Baixu was recovering, his father, Chairman Zheng, visited, brought by a young woman named Kexin. Though gruff, Chairman Zheng encouraged his son to stay in touch with Kexin, hoping she would be a positive influence. Soon after, Zhang Xiaohui and her mother arrived to express their sincere gratitude.
Xiaohui’s mother, lamenting their past foolishness, implored Baixu to persuade her daughter to return to school. Having seen Xiaohui's dancing video, Baixu recognized her talent and felt responsible for her dropping out around the time of his debut. Xiaohui confessed that growing up in a single-parent home with a hot-tempered mother made her feel useless, and that seeing Baixu’s perseverance gave her strength.
Moved, Baixu shared his own deep wish that his mother were still alive, even if it meant being scolded by her. He urged Xiaohui to treasure her mother and return to school, insisting she must not only dance but also get into university. He promised to pay for her cram school and a private tutor but warned he would not see her again if she didn't comply.
Later, a passerby recorded Xiaohui and her mother on the street, where the mother praised Baixu's generosity, declared herself a "Xu fan," and likened meeting him to winning the lottery. The video went viral, leading to an outpouring of positive media attention for Baixu. Following this surge in public support, the company held a meeting.
Vice-President Ma Lina, who had previously pushed to sell his contract, reluctantly agreed to keep him but insisted on taking over his management to maximize his commercial value, a proposal Director Liu Yinan supported. Vice-President Du Wanqing vehemently opposed Ma Lina's rigid approach, highlighting Baixu's recent heroic act as proof of his character and potential. President Chen Tianhao was caught between them.
Acting quickly, Ma Lina and Liu Yinan, along with Yu Hong, secured a charity commercial for Baixu and visited him in the hospital. Baixu firmly refused, citing his professional integrity and declaring he wouldn't film "garbage" using doubles or CGI while his bone injury needed 100 days to heal. Frustrated, Ma Lina tasked Yu Hong with changing his mind. Yu Hong then instructed Zhenzhen to persuade him by any means necessary.
Zhenzhen cleverly appealed to his newfound popularity with the public, but more importantly, revealed that the company wasn't being paid and that a benefactor had promised to donate 1,000 wheelchairs to charity if he filmed the commercial. This incentive finally persuaded Baixu. Later, Du Wanqing and Liu Yinan discussed Baixu's full cooperation on set, noting he performed every shot himself, and were amazed by Zhenzhen's unique ability to influence him.
Impressed by Zhenzhen’s remarkable ability to manage Baixu and her moral integrity, Chen Tianhao and Du Wanqing decided to promote her to his manager. Zhenzhen, however, expressed a lack of confidence in her ability to handle the new role. Baixu encouraged her, telling her to "pretend you know everything" and insisting she could handle both manager and assistant duties, even rejecting an offer for a new assistant.
When Zhenzhen returned to the office, she was met with enthusiastic congratulations from her colleagues, including Liu Yinan, who lauded her unprecedented promotion from an assistant to the manager of a top star. Feeling a mix of surprise and gratitude, she was then escorted to her new, private "VIP of VIP" manager’s office, a clear recognition of her achievements.
