Night was deep, heavy rain poured down. Beyond the noisy sound of the rain, a car drove straight into the suburbs. Xu Yi dragged Hu Lifeng's body from the car and discarded it in the wild lake. Just then, Nan Ya woke up and witnessed this scene through the car window. Recalling what happened that night, she was still shaken. Xu Yi told her that she would no longer be threatened by Hu Lifeng from now on.

However, the clues Nan Ya provided to the police were limited to personal speculation. She was even more afraid that the speculation would become reality. Lao Chen believed that when Nan Ya recounted the incident, she deliberately concealed her role in pushing for Hu Lifeng's death. Nan Ya insisted that she was the victim and that even if she didn't kill Hu Lifeng herself, the hatred in her heart for him was deeper than anyone else's.

Lao Chen found a piece of torn cloth in the trash can outside the boiler room door. He suspected it was torn from Hu Lifeng's clothes and had his bloodstains on it. But Lin Fanglu couldn't understand why Xu Yi, who had processed the scene so meticulously, would leave such a significant flaw. Doubt lingered in his mind.

Returning to the detention center, Lao Chen questioned Nan Ya again, asking her to recall the color of the clothes Hu Lifeng was wearing and what happened on the night of the incident. In Nan Ya's narration, Xu Yi put Hu Lifeng's body into the trunk and went to a car repair shop. Afterward, the two returned to their residence, dejected. Nan Ya wanted to turn herself in but was stopped by Xu Yi.

Xu Yi took this opportunity to express his deep feelings, and ultimately won her over completely. After Xu Yi woke up, he proactively contacted Chen Ling, deliberately lured her to Nan Ya's dormitory, and staged a scene of catching them having an affair to fabricate an alibi.

Because of this incident, Chen Ling completely resented Nan Ya, crying and cursing her as having a cruel heart, saying that the retribution she had received and would receive in the future was well-deserved and that she would never find happiness in her life. Lao Chen was furious upon hearing this. Lin Fanglu was also curious why Nan Ya didn't choose to call the police.

Nan Ya said that at the time, she couldn't be sure of the truth of the matter. Once the speculation was confirmed, Xu Yi had killed Hu Lifeng for her, and she couldn't live with that on her conscience. Later, Nan Ya married Xu Yi out of gratitude, and Xu Yi also fell out with his family to marry her.

The two also had a period of loving days, but as time passed, Xu Yi's temperament became volatile, he was often suspicious, and even physically abused Nan Ya. Since their daughter Wan Wan was born prematurely due to Xu Yi kicking her, resulting in congenital kidney failure, Nan Ya gradually became disappointed in Xu Yi. Before the train station incident, Nan Ya felt slightly indebted to Xu Yi.

But after the train station incident, her heart was filled with endless hatred. The main reason she didn't report Xu Yi was primarily for Wan Wan's medical expenses. The mother and son came to the morgue to see Liu Changshui's body. Liu Qi was heartbroken, and Liu Xun also felt bad.

Soon, the forensic doctor detected Xu Yi's DNA under Liu Changshui's fingernails, determining that Liu Changshui suffered a traumatic brain injury from being struck in the back of the head with a blunt object, and was then tied to a large stone and drowned in the lake. The method of body disposal was identical to the Hu Lifeng case, basically confirming that Xu Yi was the killer.

Because the mother and son from the Liu family were emotional, Lin Fanglu first comforted them and promised to bring justice for the deceased. When the criminal police team discussed the case, they first ruled out Nan Ya as a suspect for murder. Whether she was harboring a suspect was unknown. The bureau leader was very happy that the cold case spanning five years had finally been solved, and publicly praised Lao Chen and Lin Fanglu.

But Lao Chen still had unresolved issues. He always felt that Nan Ya was hiding something and confessed to Lin Fanglu that Chen Ling was Xu Yi's secret lover. On the fifteenth day after the incident, Lao Chen went home and asked his wife about their daughter's state after learning of Xu Yi's death.

Chen Qi said that on the day Xu Yi was killed, Chen Ling became emotionally unstable upon learning about it, and later she was in a daze, which pained her greatly. Now that this had happened, Chen Qi was worried that their daughter would not be able to face others in the future. Lao Chen was about to go find Chen Ling but was stopped by his wife, so he had no choice but to stay at home.
