The police quickly locked down this wild lake and began searching, but the underwater visibility was too low, making the search difficult. Just when everyone was losing hope, the salvage team suddenly discovered a tightly wrapped body. Based on the degree of decomposition, it didn't seem like the person had been dead for five years, until they saw the name Liu Changshui written on the identification. Soon, the salvage team pulled another body from the lake.

Forensic examination confirmed that the two bodies were Hu Lifeng, who disappeared five years ago, and Liu Changshui, who fled with embezzled funds six months ago. Because Hu Lifeng's body had been submerged for a long time, the forensic doctor couldn't determine the exact time of death, but estimated it to be at least more than five years. From the condition of the skulls, both had been struck with a heavy object.

However, Liu Changshui died of suffocation, while Hu Lifeng had a comminuted skull fracture, possibly caused by traumatic brain injury, or perhaps by other reasons. Since his organs had decomposed, a definitive conclusion couldn't be reached. Based on the methods, the forensic doctor speculated that the two cases were very similar, so it was likely the work of the same person. Although Lin Fanglu suspected Xu Yi as the main suspect, there was no direct evidence at this time.

The forensic doctor stated that even with DNA testing, samples would need to be sent to a provincial institution. He also revealed that Liu Changshui had been struck unexpectedly without any defense, and there were no signs of a struggle between them, while Hu Lifeng's condition made comparison impossible. Subsequently, Lin Fanglu went to see Nan Ya again, showing her two photos of the body disposal site.

As expected, Nan Ya's emotional state showed obvious fluctuations, and she finally revealed the fact that she had been violated by Hu Lifeng. That night, Xu Yi waited for Nan Ya in vain, so he drove to Nan Ya's residence and unexpectedly caught Hu Lifeng violently assaulting Nan Ya. Hu Lifeng had long harbored resentment towards Xu Yi, and directly kicked him to the ground and beat him up. Seeing Nan Ya injured, Xu Yi, in anger, pushed Hu Lifeng's face into the fire and even raised a shovel to smash it hard on his head.
