Serendipity Episode 37 Recap
> Serendipity Recap
Jian Mingshu found Su Tangli and told her directly that she had come to join forces and seek revenge together, for both their families had been destroyed by the same enemy. After extensive investigation, Su Tangli learned that the Lin family was currently under the control of the Old Madam Lin, and the family had extremely strict standards when recruiting maids—they absolutely refused to take in women with unclear backgrounds.
At this point, Jian Mingshu recalled how more than thirty lives of the Jian family had perished at the hands of Cao Hai. She had investigated Cao Hai in detail and discovered that although he changed his name every year, he would always return to Ning'an at a fixed time. Old Madam Lin happened to reside in Ning'an and had close ties to Prince Yu, leading Jian Mingshu to deduce that Cao Hai was very likely her son.
Now, the two of them resolved to infiltrate the Lin household and trap their enemy like catching a turtle in a jar. Old Madam Lin, known for her devotion to a vegetarian and pious life in the temple, suddenly felt nauseated and unwell while out. At that moment, Jian Mingshu swiftly stepped in and publicly saved her. When Old Madam Lin woke up, she was deeply grateful to Jian Mingshu.
Upon learning that she was an orphan praying at the temple, Old Madam Lin felt compassion and decided to take her in, bringing her back to the Lin residence. In fact, this had all been carefully orchestrated by Jian Mingshu and Su Tangli—they had tampered with Old Madam Lin’s vegetarian meal to create this perfect opportunity to enter the household. Old Madam Lin instructed the maid Yuer to take Jian Mingshu to the rear courtyard.
On the way, Jian Mingshu keenly noticed a locked room and, based on various signs, deduced it was most likely Cao Hai’s room. The next day, worried about her friend, Jian Mingshu requested for her to be brought in, and Old Madam Lin, seeing her loyalty, agreed. Later, Su Tangli started helping in the kitchen and finally settled into the Lin household.
To verify whether Old Madam Lin was truly Cao Hai’s mother, Jian Mingshu went to a secluded courtyard, where she found a pregnant woman imprisoned. Upon closer look, she realized it was Auntie Zhou, who was blind and crippled. Jian Mingshu, shocked, stepped inside. Auntie Zhou recognized her voice, was filled with guilt, and knelt down, begging for forgiveness.
She bitterly regretted betraying Jian Jinhai, who had treated her so well, and revealed that she had been deceived by Cao Hai, which led to the destruction of the Jian household. She had nearly been killed back then but was spared because she carried Cao Hai’s child. Old Madam Lin had blinded her and broken her legs, forcing her to leave the Lin family. Now surviving in misery, she confessed her sins and begged Jian Mingshu to kill Cao Hai.
She also revealed that the Jian family’s wealth and evidence were all hidden in the ancestral hall. Secretly, Old Madam Lin ordered someone to kill Auntie Zhou after she gave birth. Meanwhile, Jian Mingshu helped Yuer carry Buddhist scriptures and used the opportunity to sneak into the ancestral hall. When she saw her family’s jade statue there, grief overwhelmed her, and she couldn’t help but think of her father.
Jian Mingshu quickly passed the news that Old Madam Lin was Cao Hai’s biological mother to Su Tangli, and the two began carefully planning their next move. Su Tangli bought a basket of explosives on the black market and found a way to sneak them into the Lin residence.
Jian Mingshu learned from Yuer that a banquet would soon be held at the Lin household, so she and Su Tangli buried landmines in the courtyard overnight, waiting for the right moment to deliver a fatal blow to their enemy. Lu Chang had been secretly following them for several days and finally discovered that Jian Mingshu had infiltrated the Lin residence. That night, he snuck into the residence and appeared in Jian Mingshu’s room.
Startled and helpless at his sudden appearance, Jian Mingshu was forcefully kissed by Lu Chang. She pushed him away with determination, declaring that she would not be swayed by romantic feelings and that her sole purpose was to avenge the Jian family. Lu Chang held her tenderly, confessing that he had been beside himself with worry after losing track of her, fearing something terrible had happened.
Now that he saw she was safe, he was willing to stay and help her seek revenge, even if it meant stepping into hell itself. To keep Lu Chang from getting entangled in the chaos, Jian Mingshu cruelly bit him. But Lu Chang didn’t fight back—he insisted on staying. The next morning, Lu Chang woke early and prepared breakfast for Jian Mingshu.
She earnestly persuaded him to leave, saying that someone like him—a top scholar—shouldn’t be here and certainly shouldn’t abandon his lofty ambitions. Seeing that he still refused to leave, Jian Mingshu changed her strategy, accepted him, and kissed him of her own accord—though it was merely a temporary measure to buy time.
