Serendipity Episode 35 Recap
> Serendipity Recap
After Lu Chang woke up, Jian Mingshu finally breathed a sigh of relief. Prince Yu had schemed endlessly to preserve his title, hoping to one day make a comeback, but Jian Mingshu remained uneasy—how could a daughter simply let go of such things? Jian Mingshu claimed she was only worried about Su Tangli, but Lu Chang could tell that she seemed to have regained her memory.
Lu Chang was punished for impersonating a royal prince and was stripped of his post as Court Censor, ordered to return home and reflect. Minister Lu said they were lucky things hadn’t gotten worse, and that Prince Rui had merely been penalized with a year's salary. Minister Lu remarked that political ups and downs were commonplace, but from now on, Lu Chang must act with caution and avoid getting too close to Prince Rui. However, Lu Chang refused his goodwill.
Minister Lu demanded to know why he couldn't be forgiven, but Lu Chang said that if he had stepped in back then, Mr. Su wouldn't have died, and many innocent souls would not have perished. Enraged, Minister Lu asked Aunt Zeng and Jian Mingshu to persuade Lu Chang. At that moment, Jian Mingshu was overwhelmed by memories of her father. She resolved to seek revenge.
She believed in the principle of retribution, but since divine justice was so insignificant and the heavens so unfair, she would reclaim justice herself—even if it meant her own destruction. Su Tangli went alone to assassinate Prince Yu, but he had anticipated her move and was waiting. Su Tangli swore she wouldn’t spare him even in death. Prince Yu regretted ever feeling pity for her, nearly strangling her.
Prince Rui and Lu Chang arrived just in time to rescue Su Tangli. With red eyes, Prince Yu declared that the outcome of their confrontation was yet to be seen. Su Tangli and Lu Chang burned incense for Mr. Su. The case had recently been overturned, and they believed Prince Yu would surely pay the price. Lu Chang urged Su Tangli not to act rashly again. Su Tangli decided to return to her hometown in Jianglin.
Lu Chang nodded—it might be for the best. Minister Lu also came to offer incense for Mr. Su, but Su Tangli and Lu Chang were unwilling to speak much with him. It was raining that day. Lu Chang returned home holding an umbrella and was overjoyed to see Jian Mingshu. Jian Mingshu thanked him for all his help. She remembered everything—she was Jian Mingshu from the Jian family’s gold shop—and also recalled her promise to Lu Chang.
Now that they were parting, they would go their separate ways for the rest of their lives. Jian Mingshu wanted to see the case files from the Jian family massacre. She remembered everything vividly and wanted to know what exactly they had gone through. Lu Chang didn’t want her to be further traumatized, but Jian Mingshu was the only surviving member of the Jian family and had the right to know.
Lu Chang told her the only suspicious detail was the little dragonfly. She had gone out with Jian Mingshu, yet her body was found at the Jian residence. Jian Mingshu revealed that the one who had an affair with Concubine Zhou was Zhou Shicai, and her father never gave her any evidence. Lu Chang was willing to stay by Jian Mingshu’s side and face everything together. But Jian Mingshu didn’t want to involve him.
She deliberately brought up the past, saying her feelings for him had ended the moment he rejected her. Now, all she felt toward him was gratitude, and she begged him not to keep entangling himself. Lu Chang ran after her to apologize. He admitted he had wronged her in the past, but the mutual affection between them over the past months in the capital was real! Jian Mingshu firmly pushed him away. Her revenge should not involve anyone else.
Suddenly, the Emperor fell ill and coughed up blood. Prince Rui rushed overnight to care for him upon hearing he had lost consciousness. The next day, the Emperor awoke and was moved by the sight. Prince Rui begged for forgiveness for his past wrongs, calling the Emperor "father. " The Emperor’s heart softened considerably. After Prince Rui left, the Emperor summoned the Minister of Rites to the palace immediately. Wei Zhuo visited the residence for a banquet.
Jian Mingshu specifically asked about Cao Hai, but he didn’t seem to be from Jianglin. Song Qingzhao was worried about Jian Mingshu. She was separating from Lu Chang, and Song Qingzhao didn’t understand what inner turmoil she was experiencing. As her friend, he didn’t want her to do anything she would regret. Lu Chang had only offered assistance to the Jian family, and he had repaid everything he owed.
It was Jian Mingshu who owed Lu Chang a debt she could never repay. Jian Mingshu asked Song Qingzhao to transfer Jianglin’s record books to the capital—just as a keepsake. Madam Song saw Song Qingzhao and Jian Mingshu together and immediately entered the palace to see the Imperial Consort. The two were sisters and had always been close.
Madam Song came on behalf of Song Qingzhao’s marriage, and the Imperial Consort was also willing to speak on his behalf to the Emperor. Although Lu Chang had been punished, he was still the top scholar appointed by the Emperor, who still held him in high regard.
