This case involved Prince Yu. Minister Lu ignored Jian Jinhai’s letter for help. Three years ago, when Prince Rui promoted new policies, it caused a huge uproar in court. The emperor was so enraged that he expelled Prince Rui from the capital, and Minister Lu didn’t want to step in and stir up trouble. Lu Chang was furious. Just to cater to business interests, Minister Lu could abandon so many lives from the Jian and Su families.

It was Minister Lu who cut off the chances for survival for so many people. Lu Chang ordered his attendants to see the guest out. What truly upset him wasn’t the blood relationship, but the fact that Minister Lu clearly knew the new policies were beneficial to the country and its people, yet still chose to remain silent. Jian Mingshu believed that as long as there were people like Lu Chang in court, the future would certainly improve.

Song Qingzhao often came to Hualang Pavilion, staring foolishly at Jian Mingshu. Whenever he saw she was injured, he couldn’t help wanting to approach her. Today, Madam Lu came to Hualang Pavilion to shop, and Jian Mingshu saw a girl beside her—her daughter, Lu Wan’er—who had been abducted as a child and was only found three months ago.

Upon hearing the story of how Madam Lu and Lu Wan’er reunited, Jian Mingshu felt it was too much of a coincidence, especially considering that this Lord Lu was connected to Prince Yu. Seeing how dejected Song Qingzhao was, the Princess of Wen’an dragged him out to cheer him up. As Jian Mingshu came out of the shop, she happened to run into Lu Chang on the street, who didn’t bring an umbrella. The two went home together.

Along the way, Lu Chang tilted the umbrella toward Jian Mingshu, getting half soaked himself. Back at the mansion, they didn’t expect Minister Lu to be there. Lu Chang and Aunt Zeng were both cold toward him. Minister Lu hoped Jian Mingshu would put in a good word for him, but she was even more dismissive, even addressing him by his official title.

She said that not to mention being the Lu family’s young miss, she wouldn’t care for the title even if she were the Lu family’s matriarch. Later, Minister Lu went to see Aunt Zeng, trying to persuade her to have Lu Chang acknowledge his ancestry, so that he could have a secure future. Even if not for Lu Chang, she should consider Jian Mingshu’s marriage prospects.

Aunt Zeng simply said bluntly that he had no right to interfere with Jian Mingshu’s marriage—she was not his daughter. Song Qingzhao stayed up all night making a set of tools for Jian Mingshu and left them at Hualang Pavilion. Minister Lu came to seek refuge with Prince Rui. He had a lot of evidence against Prince Yu, including what Governor Gao had left behind. But Minister Lu demanded a marriage alliance between the Lu and Lu families.

Prince Rui told him to go back first, as he had no right to interfere in others’ marriage matters. Prince Rui knew Lu Chang would never agree to it. This marriage couldn’t happen, but the evidence Minister Lu held was also critically important. Jian Mingshu received the tools and asked the Princess of Wen’an to take her to thank Song Qingzhao. She also brought a gift set of writing supplies.

Lu Ruishan sent an invitation to Jian Mingshu, and Lu Chang guessed it was at Minister Lu’s request. He accompanied Jian Mingshu. Minister Lu hoped Lu Ruishan would marry Lu Chang, and Lu Ruishan was delighted. When Minister Lu brought up the marriage, Lu Chang was full of disdain. Back then, Minister Lu had framed him and sent him to prison—now he wanted to form a marriage alliance?

Lu Chang understood clearly that Minister Lu wanted to exchange the evidence for a marriage and rejected it immediately. Jian Mingshu and Lu Ruishan asked about Lu Wan’er, and heard she had been adopted by a physician—but now that physician had vanished without a trace. On the way back, Jian Mingshu saw Lu Chang looking terribly upset, so she asked about Minister Lu’s terms.

When she heard that he wanted to marry off his daughter to Lu Chang, Jian Mingshu couldn’t help but feel jealous and joked that Lu Chang’s peach blossoms were so abundant they couldn’t even be blocked. Because Lu Chang looked down on Lu Ruishan, Minister Lu decided to marry her off to a scoundrel. Lu Ruishan refused and vowed to win Lu Chang back.

The rumors outside were boiling over, saying Lu Ruishan was going to marry the newly top-ranked scholar Lu Chang—and the rumor was spread by Lu Ruishan herself. When Jian Mingshu heard it, she ran back to the mansion in the heavy rain. Yin Shujun returned home and overheard Prince Rui discussing Lu Chang and Lu Ruishan’s marriage, mistakenly thinking it was his strategy to bring down Prince Yu, and got very upset.

When Jian Mingshu got home, she questioned Lu Chang if he was really going to marry Lu Ruishan. Seeing how anxious she was, Lu Chang teased her on purpose.
