Serendipity Episode 29 Recap
> Serendipity Recap
Lu Chang was ordered to investigate the Jian family massacre. Governor Gao personally came to greet him, but the moment he heard the name "Jian family," his expression drastically changed, and he was visibly panicked. Ying Xun's father said that the Jian family case was difficult to investigate, but he had found several jade ornaments in the market, said to be old belongings of the Jian family's women.
These ornaments were likely connected to the murderer, and the person who sold them was none other than Governor Gao’s cousin, Gao Wan. Lu Chang decided to start with him. Gao Wan was just about to sneak out of his home when Ying Xun brought men and captured him. Out of fear, Gao Wan claimed he was blinded by greed and had ordered men to steal treasures after the Jian family was wiped out.
However, Lu Chang did not believe him so easily. Jian Mingshu didn’t like Su Tangli, but the pain of losing loved ones made them sympathetic toward each other, so Jian Mingshu was still willing to meet her. Since the moment her father died, Su Tangli had been buried in painful memories, while Jian Mingshu was, in a way, more fortunate.
Jian Mingshu wanted to perform the soul-summoning ritual again to recall everything, but Hu Yi was already dead, and Lu Chang would never allow her to use such forbidden books again. Even so, Jian Mingshu was determined not to give up. Lu Chang discovered that Gao Wan's concubine was allegedly pregnant and being used by Governor Gao to control him, which was why he wouldn't confess.
To resolve this, they needed to find Qiu Niang, so Gao Wan would have no concerns. Jian Mingshu blamed herself for not remembering her family's faces, so Lu Chang drew portraits of her family members. Seeing his drawings brought her comfort. She would not drown in sorrow—she was determined to catch the culprit and avenge her father. Ying Xun found out that Qiu Niang was not actually pregnant; Governor Gao had tricked Gao Wan.
Lu Chang informed Gao Wan, and successfully obtained the accounting records of every stolen transaction. Governor Gao had already fled, so Lu Chang returned to the Su residence to look for clues. Jian Mingshu speculated that Governor Gao had converted money into silk and then exchanged it back into money overseas. To continue the investigation, Jian Mingshu and Song Qingzhao disguised themselves as foreigners and went to the Hongyuan Trading House.
Under the pretense of business, they rented a ship at double the usual price—specifically the Yongxing. Jian Mingshu suspected that Governor Gao must have taken the Yongxing to flee overseas. Late at night, Lu Chang led men to capture Governor Gao but encountered bandits who came to kill him. Jian Mingshu was accidentally injured. Seeing her lips turn purple, Ying Xun feared she had been poisoned.
Song Qingzhao rushed to find a doctor, while Lu Chang brought her back to the room and sucked the poisoned blood from her shoulder. Jian Mingshu woke midway and tried to stop him, fearing he would be poisoned too. But to him, if Jian Mingshu died, there would be no meaning to his life. Both of them passed out, and Jian Mingshu arrived just in time with the doctor and ordered them to be detoxified.
In her dream, Jian Mingshu returned once again to the Jian family, and saw the man in green. She no longer cared who the man in her dreams was, for she had seen her heart clearly—who he was didn’t matter anymore. Jian Mingshu knew whom she loved. The man in the dream slowly turned around, and Jian Mingshu smiled. The one she had loved from the beginning had always been Lu Chang.
But Jian Mingshu couldn’t help but worry—who was the young lady from Jianglin that Lu Chang had once cared about? Jian Mingshu secretly went to ask Ying Xun about her identity. Though Ying Xun wanted to reveal the truth, he held back—this was something Lu Chang had to say himself. When Lu Chang woke up, Jian Mingshu hurried over with concern to see him. Just then, Prince Rui arrived with Yin Shujun and the Princess of Wen’an.
Jian Mingshu’s mood had visibly improved. The Princess of Wen’an couldn’t help mentioning Song Qingzhao, remarking that he likely couldn’t let go of Jian Mingshu so easily. Lu Chang, holding solid evidence, interrogated Governor Gao. The people behind him had not only ordered him to commit these crimes, but also wanted him silenced. If not for their intervention last night, Governor Gao would have been dead already. Still, Governor Gao refused to talk, so Prince Rui personally stepped in to question him.
