Xie Xu immediately realized that Su Tangli had latched onto Prince Yu and was determined not to let her go. Prince Yu took charge and brought Su Tangli out of the academy and into his residence. Su Tangli had already resolved to use Prince Yu’s hand to avenge her father. That day, under the pretense of delivering clothes, she approached Prince Yu and expressed her willingness to serve him, offering Marquis Yongqing’s residence as her pledge of loyalty.

Before being brought to Prince Yu, Su Tangli saw a blood-soaked woman being dragged away. She specifically bribed a eunuch and learned that there was a tale about an auspicious sign when Prince Yu was born, but it was a taboo topic. Su Tangli volunteered to serve Prince Yu in bed, but he remained suspicious. He asked her why she didn’t turn to Prince Rui instead.

Song Qingzhao asked Princess Wen'an to leave so he could speak alone with Jian Mingshu. Unexpectedly, Lu Chang appeared midway. A guest mistook Prince Rui for the shopkeeper and asked for a recommendation. He picked out a hairpin just like Yin Shujun’s.

Prince Rui was set to leave the city the next day to prepare for the Spring Plowing Ceremony, and all household affairs were entrusted to Yin Shujun. She especially reminded him to wear more clothes. Wei Zhuo came to care for a colleague’s mother. The old lady was confused and mistook Aunt Zeng, who had been caring for her, as her daughter-in-law. Aunt Zeng, seeing the old lady living alone, had been particularly attentive.

Wei Zhuo was very grateful upon hearing this. Jian Mingshu asked for a charm from Xu Yuanfu of Xiangguo Temple for Lu Chang. Lu Chang was delighted at first, but upon seeing that Jian Mingshu also gave one to Song Qingzhao, he became upset, grabbed Jian Mingshu’s sachet, and stuffed it into his own, saying only then it was truly one-of-a-kind. Song Qingzhao said he had something to say to Jian Mingshu alone, so Lu Chang went outside to eavesdrop.

Song Qingzhao gave Jian Mingshu the custom-made hibiscus hairpin. Although Jian Mingshu didn’t have romantic feelings for him, she accepted it so as not to affect his provincial exam performance. As the spring exam approached, the academy went on break. Lu Chang took the academy-arranged carriage home, but suddenly someone claimed to have been hit and Lu Chang was unjustly taken to jail. This was an intentional setup by Magistrate Jia.

Jian Mingshu was almost thrown into chaos upon hearing the news, but luckily Song Qingzhao, Yin Shujun, and Princess Wen'an were there. Song Qingzhao accompanied Jian Mingshu to visit the prison. The jailer only let her in after seeing the token from the Duke of Zhenguo’s residence. Lu Chang confirmed it was a frame-up, someone had set a trap.

He hadn’t figured out who yet, but asked Jian Mingshu to find the so-called victim and force Magistrate Jia to reopen the case. Magistrate Jia immediately reported this matter to Song Qingzhao’s father, saying that Song Qingzhao was showing undue favor to the Lu siblings. To catch the so-called victim, Qian Si, Jian Mingshu and Ying Xun disguised themselves as doctors and went to his home, but they were also turned away.
