Sugano's words prompted Jin Ayin to ponder how the culprit could have known that Xiang Qinyu would not be using a wire, a detail that only Director Feng had personally confirmed with him just days before filming. She recalled a video call with poor signal in Xiang Qinyu’s makeup room, which gave her an idea. She rushed back to the set and discovered a hidden bug in a drawer.
Meanwhile, Ma Zehao was startled awake by a nightmare, only to receive a call from the police station. He flashed back to his childhood, where he, suffering from autism, was often bullied by other children. He vividly remembered a kind girl named Tao Tao who befriended him and treated him with warmth, sparking a special affection in his heart for her.
At the police station, Ma Zehao almost let his true emotions slip when he learned that Xiang Qinyu was unharmed. The police were conducting a routine inquiry because his phone number appeared in the deceased Hao’s call records. Ma Zehao cleverly misled the officers, claiming he met Hao two years prior while visiting a friend on a film set, and Hao had later called him to borrow money after losing his job.
He told the police he had fortunately not lent Hao any money. As he was about to leave, he spotted Jin Ayin pushing Xiang Qinyu in a wheelchair and quickly hid. Jin Ayin handed the discovered bug to the police, who also found a pinhole camera.
The police suspected that the current incident and Chi Yu's previous fall into the sea were the work of the same assailant, noting the killer’s proficiency with electronic devices and their likely continued surveillance of Xiang Qinyu. They urged him to exercise extreme caution. Concerned for Xiang Qinyu, Jin Ayin took him, on crutches, back to her home.
Xiang Qinyu deliberately sent Jin Ayin out for food, secretly returning to her apartment ahead of her to search for any hidden devices. He ended up leaving her home in disarray. Upon her return, Jin Ayin saw his worry for her safety and insisted he stay. When Xiang Qinyu, seeing that her place seemed safe, tried to return to Li Longda’s home, Jin Ayin blocked his path and tackled him onto the sofa.
Jin Ayin expressed her desire to face the danger together, and Xiang Qinyu promised to protect her. Living together, their old passion was rekindled. They often shared pizza and played games. Jin Ayin showered Xiang Qinyu with care, but he frequently spent recklessly on online shopping, ordering things like crabs with an eight-piece dining set.
To teach Jin Ayin about true romance and inspire her screenwriting, Xiang Qinyu attempted a classic magic trick from his era, making a flower appear, but Jin Ayin remained unimpressed. One day, while at a shopping mall, Xiang Qinyu hinted that he wanted milk tea before feigning disinterest. Opportunely, someone offered free milk tea in exchange for scanning a QR code.
Jin Ayin readily scanned it, unaware that this was Ma Zehao's trap to plant another listening device into her phone. A flashback revealed that Jin Ayin had also been a friend of Tao Tao’s in their childhood. During this time, Xiang Qinyu also received a video call from Chi Yu's mother, who was checking if he had enough money. He uncomfortably assured her he did and promised to take care of Chi Yu's father, who was not feeling well.
Later, Jin Ayin discovered that Xiang Qinyu had been hiding the fact that his leg had already healed, much to her annoyance. Soon after, Jin Ayin was overjoyed to receive the deposit for her new script, attributing her good fortune to a fortune teller's prophecy. Xiang Qinyu asked to read her new script, but she quickly prevented him. In their playful struggle, Chi Yu's watch was knocked to the floor.
Meanwhile, Chen Mumu's new project, "Old Idol," had its director contract rejected by Zhang Jianzhou. Chen Mumu confronted him, believing his decision was driven by personal spite. Zhang Jianzhou explained his action was due to the large advance taken for an unfinalized script. He reminded her of the ongoing complications with "The Legend of Xiang Qinyu," emphasizing that her project was already a high-risk venture.
Chen Mumu countered that she had already informed the general manager about Xiang Qinyu's recovery and prepared a PR strategy, asserting her independence and justifying the deposit as a necessary step to secure the director.
Unmoved, Zhang Jianzhou insisted the project could not proceed and, when Chen Mumu threatened to escalate, he ordered HR to put her on immediate annual leave, sternly warning her against being too impulsive, reminding her that "the gun always shoots the bird that comes out on top." Jin Chuan's photography exhibition opened, with both Li Longda and Xiang Qinyu present to help. They immediately began bickering, each trying to assert their importance to Jin Ayin.
Jin Ayin eventually intervened, instructing them both to greet guests at the entrance. Chen Mumu arrived at the exhibition with a ticket. Jin Chuan recognized her and called her "Little turtle," but she pretended not to know him and said he had the wrong person. Later, as she was leaving, she almost fell, but Jin Chuan caught her.
