Synopsis

In the early 1980s, Tong Lin, who had been a bachelor because of his mute handicap, found a baby girl at his doorstep. Although he is unable to speak, he adopted her and named her "A Mei".

Because of A Mei, Tong Lin gave up his job and house, and took A Mei out to rent a room for himself, and made a living by collecting rags, raising Ah Mei on his own with a meager income.

The happiest time of the day for both father and daughter was when Tong Lin played the old instruments he had collected for A Mei. A Mei danced with excitement every time, which was also the happiest moment for Tong Lin.

During the secondary school examinations, the teacher persuaded A Mei to apply for music secondary school, but because of the high tuition fees, A Mei could not bear to burden her father anymore and refused the teacher.

When Tong Lin learned of this, he applied for the school for A Mei and secretly took up a few more jobs himself.

When A Mei was successful in her studies, Tong Lin suffered from cancer as a result of his hard work, and it was with deep gratitude that A Mei sings 酒干倘卖无" for her father, Tong Lin.
