The editor-in-chief saw Ding Xian's comic and was very impressed, encouraging her to enter a competition. Ding Xian went to eat at the restaurant where Zhou Siyue worked, just to catch another glimpse of him. Zhou Siyue handed her a test sheet—it was related to the lab, and Ding Xian knew that although Zhou Siyue appeared indifferent, he still cared about her.

Zhou Siyue prepared a complete experimental topic for freshmen, intending to give it to Ding Xian once she joined the group. Yuan Fang, another member, took it to give to a new freshman girl, who happened to be Ding Xian's roommate, and the material eventually ended up in Ding Xian’s hands. This had been Zhou Siyue’s plan all along—he didn’t want to hand it to her personally, so he asked Yuan Fang to do it.

Ding Xian immediately guessed it was from Zhou Siyue and brought it back to ask if it was his, hoping he would admit it. But Zhou Siyue didn’t, leaving Ding Xian to doubt herself. Ding Xian was admitted into the research group. Professor Ye thought she was excellent and asked Zhou Siyue to mentor her. But Zhou Siyue warned her not to slack off—if her project failed, she wouldn’t be able to go abroad.

He asked her to consider it seriously. But Ding Xian insisted that if Zhou Siyue liked it, she would too. Professor Ye arranged for Dong Zhengfei to introduce the new students to the group. He told them they must be passionate about experiments, or they’d be ruining their own futures. But Ding Xian, eager to be near Zhou Siyue, didn’t care whether she liked it or not—he was her greatest motivation. Professor Ye gave Ding Xian a problem to solve.

If she could figure it out, she would get a direct spot to go abroad without needing to pass other tests. Ding Xian began working day and night on it, which made Zhou Siyue feel distressed—he thought the professor was being too hard on her. Even seniors might not be able to solve the problem.

Yuan Fang felt sorry for her and took the test to Dong Zhengfei, but when Dong found out Ding Xian was only doing it to go abroad with Zhou Siyue, he refused to help. Ding Xian went to Zhou Siyue and asked him to open Professor Ye’s test paper again. Though he refused at first, Ding Xian sweetly coaxed him, and he ended up staying to help.

While Zhou Siyue worked on the problem, Ding Xian picked up her sketchbook and started drawing him. Seeing her talent made Zhou Siyue feel guilty—he wanted her to pursue her passion instead of giving it up for him. But Ding Xian was willing to persist for the one she loved. When Zhou Siyue returned home, the lab experienced a sudden power outage. Ding Xian was still there, doing her experiment.

Knowing she was afraid of the dark, Zhou Siyue hurried back. In the pitch-black room, the two bumped into each other, and he held her—almost kissing her. Zhou Siyue eventually solved the problem and gave it to Professor Ye. He praised Ding Xian highly. But Zhou Siyue had used the same method to solve it too, hoping she’d reconsider—going abroad might suit him better.

Later, Dong Zhengfei went to provoke Ding Xian, saying she was willing to give up her passion for Zhou Siyue, while Zhou Siyue wouldn’t give up going abroad for her. Worse, it was Zhou Siyue who asked the professor to persuade her to give up. Ding Xian pretended not to care, but deep down, she was hurt. Xing Lufei went to tell Zhou Siyue she was participating in the debate contest.

She found a box of chocolates on his desk and ate one, which made Zhou Siyue very angry. Xing Lufei didn’t understand why he reacted like that and left upset. Back in the dorm, she claimed the chocolates were from Zhou Siyue, which made Ding Xian very sad.
