Ding Xian saw Zhou Siyue on campus. Previously, Xing Lufei had asked Zhou Siyue to sign up for their anime group, but he refused to join. So Ding Xian proactively went to Xing Lufei to register, hoping to learn something about Zhou Siyue from them.

At that moment, one of her dormmates came to find her and told her to go to the Academic Affairs Office because she had been summoned by the school leadership for going to the boys’ dormitory to look for Zhou Siyue at the beginning of the semester. As she stepped out the door, she ran into Zhou Siyue. They chatted briefly before he hurried off.

Ding Xian thought she could see Zhou Siyue at a dinner gathering with upperclassmen, but it turned out only Dong Zhengfei's group was there. Later, Dong Zhengfei proposed playing Truth or Dare and asked Ding Xian to talk about her pursuit of Zhou Siyue. Ding Xian casually said a few words, then went to sing for them. Just then, Zhou Siyue arrived—but he was there as a temporary staff worker.

While Ding Xian was singing, Zhou Siyue came in, which made her feel uneasy. Dong Zhengfei, knowing Zhou Siyue worked there part-time, pretended not to know and deliberately called a waiter to place an order, intending to embarrass Zhou Siyue in front of everyone. However, Zhou Siyue didn’t feel ashamed of working to support himself. After everyone left, Ding Xian went to the kitchen to find Zhou Siyue, trying to learn if something had happened to his family.

But Zhou Siyue told her not to waste time on him, as they both had their own lives now. Disappointed, Ding Xian turned to leave. Just then, the manager called Zhou Siyue over and told him he had been reported by Dong Zhengfei's group, who had just spent ten thousand yuan on a membership. The manager asked Zhou Siyue to find another job. Zhou Siyue used his salary to pay the hospital for his mother.

Because his father was hospitalized, the family was struggling financially, and everything depended on Zhou Siyue’s part-time jobs. His mother was deeply distressed. After secretly following Zhou Siyue, Ding Xian learned about his father's situation and went to talk with him, hoping he wouldn’t give up on everything they had because of it. But Zhou Siyue refused to acknowledge they had ever been in love and claimed he had only ever seen her as a best friend.

Ding Xian didn’t believe him and told him to think it through. On her way back to the dorm, she was in a foul mood and kicked over a trash can, which was secretly recorded by someone following her. Ding Xian called Kong Shadi to vent, saying vows of eternal love were all fake. Kong Shadi was also upset because Song Ziqi had disappeared without a word.

Kong Shadi came up with an idea that could help Ding Xian and also bring Song Ziqi back. When Zhou Siyue returned to the dorm, he saw Song Ziqi standing at the door with luggage. It turned out Song Ziqi had been given a demerit for fighting and had broken up with Kong Shadi. Ding Xian asked one of Zhou Siyue’s classmates to help invite him to a group dinner.

They went to the new restaurant where Zhou Siyue worked and brought him a gift. Zhou Siyue immediately knew it was handmade by Ding Xian and stepped out. Not far behind Ding Xian, a male student was secretly taking pictures of her, which Zhou Siyue noticed. He removed the memory card from the camera and told the guy not to show up again.

Zhou Siyue warned Ding Xian to be careful—her photos were all over the school’s forum, and something worse could happen. Ding Xian asked Zhou Siyue to walk her home. On the way, she pressed him to be honest with her, but Zhou Siyue told her he was going abroad next month, which left Ding Xian utterly devastated. When they got back, Song Ziqi blamed Zhou Siyue for how he treated Ding Xian.

After all, she had repeated a year just to get into Huaqing for him. But Zhou Siyue lashed out at Song Ziqi, saying he wasn’t qualified to talk about love with Ding Xian. Song Ziqi got very angry and swore not to get involved in their affairs anymore. Ding Xian once again went to Zhou Siyue and confessed she didn’t believe what he said the night before.

No matter how many times he rejected her, she wouldn’t give up, because they both truly loved each other. Knowing that Zhou Siyue was going abroad, Ding Xian also wanted to join the experimental research group so she could go with him. They had already missed out on so much, and she didn’t want Zhou Siyue to face things alone anymore. She decisively signed up for the group's pre-selection.

Zhou Siyue later caught up to her and clearly told her she might lose a lot by doing this, and it wasn't something she even liked. But to Ding Xian, being with the person she loved made anything worth doing.
