Only Side by Side with You Episode 7 Recap
> Only Side by Side with You Recap
Feeling a deep sense of guilt and believing Shi Yue's intentions towards Nan Qiao were vengeful, Chang Jianxiong tracked Shi Yue to his new home. Once Shi Yue left, Chang Jianxiong secretly entered the house. He sat on the sofa, lost in thought as he looked at a military knife, a poignant reminder of their past friendship. His mind drifted back to a pivotal moment when he had given confidential documents to Nan Qiao.
Later, when the documents were lost, Shi Yue, then known as Shi Junqing, steadfastly claimed no one else knew he had borrowed them, shouldering the entire responsibility. He was subsequently expelled from Blue Sky Edge, with the academy's superior stating, "student Shi Junqing has undeniable responsibility. The academy's superior has decided to expel him from Blue Sky Edge, and shall never hire him." Chang Jianxiong watched him leave, heartbroken and overwhelmed with remorse.
He immediately sought out their officer to explain the truth, but the officer sternly stopped him, warning, "Other than Shi Junqing, no one else knew about that thesis. He personally admitted. He knew about the weight of this matter, don't you get it? ! We already lost one person. I don't want to see anything happening to you! If you really care about your buddy, then make sure to be successful on his behalf."
With no chance to speak, Chang Jianxiong remained silent. While still in the apartment, he found two special Blue Sky Edge collar insignias. The sight caused a surge of deep regret, making him anxious to leave. Meanwhile, Hao Jie, a brilliant computer expert and Shi Yue's friend, had flown back from Silicon Valley at Shi Yue's request. However, upon landing, he couldn't find or reach Shi Yue.
Hao Jie left Shi Yue a series of frustrated voicemails, saying, "It's you who told me to fly back here from Silicon Valley, yet no one even went to fetch me. Hurry and reply. How pretentious. You think I won't be able to find you? Since I have your phone number, you think I can't locate you?"
He then used his advanced tech skills to locate Shi Yue's phone, which Shi Yue had strategically placed in Nan Qiao's clothes during their anti-terrorism simulation. This led Hao Jie directly to Nan Qiao's apartment. He skillfully bypassed the password lock and entered, assuming it was Shi Yue's place. Nan Qiao, who was showering, quickly dressed and came out to investigate the noise. Hao Jie, noticing her silhouette, mistakenly believed she was Shi Yue's girlfriend.
Before he could discreetly escape with his luggage, Nan Qiao's friend, Ouyang Qi, a pet shop owner, walked in and caught him red-handed. Later, while Shi Yue was playing basketball with his friend, he received a phone call from Nan Qiao using his own phone. Nan Qiao furiously told him to "get his phone and his man." Ouyang Qi was also present, sarcastically commenting to Shi Yue, "The method of leaving one's phone to get a girl is so old-fashioned."
Shi Yue remained silent, retrieved his phone, and left with a tied-up Hao Jie, who had been bound to his luggage by Nan Qiao and Ouyang Qi. Back at Shi Yue's apartment, Hao Jie complained, "You deliberately left your phone at Nan Qiao's and it's still the willing taking the hook? Did you ask about the fish's opinion?" Shi Yue retorted that while he didn't know the fish's opinion, Hao Jie clearly had a low opinion of him.
Hao Jie noted, "Thanks to you, the entire image that I have tried hard to build in front of Nan Qiao has totally collapsed." Hao Jie, however, found himself intrigued by Ouyang Qi, whom he described as "the one who punches fiercely and then when she scolds people, the corners of her mouth will curve up." Shi Yue found the two collar insignias that Chang Jianxiong had discovered earlier now placed on his table.
Hao Jie, understanding the history between them, asked Shi Yue, "Reuniting with an old friend, what's the feeling?" Shi Yue declared, "He's not an old friend. He's my enemy." Shi Yue then revealed his strategy for dealing with an enemy: "Let his woman fall in love with me." He admitted he wanted to invest in Nan Qiao's company, Future Up, but since she refused his money, he planned to enter through her affections.
Shi Yue then informed Hao Jie of his true purpose for bringing him back, "I'm not letting you live here for free. Prepare to enter Nan Qiao's company." Chang Jianxiong, meanwhile, was reflecting on his own identical pair of collar insignias, which he often brooded over. He recalled a conversation with his father who, noticing his habit, had advised him, "You can only rely on yourself in getting past all life's difficulties.
No one can help you but there is something that must be right. In anything, you should have exerted your best first, so you would at least not regret it." The next morning, Chang Jianxiong drove Nan Qiao to work. During the ride, he cautiously inquired about Shi Yue, asking, "Do you understand Shi Yue?" Nan Qiao described Shi Yue as "an investor and a bar manager and a climbing expert."
Chang Jianxiong then used Future Up as a pretext to warn her, "Future Up is your blood and sweat. I must ensure that its growing environment is completely safe," urging her to stay away from Shi Yue. Meanwhile, Shi Yue met with the president of the Genius Alliance Flying Club.
He explained his strategy for approaching women interested in science and technology, stating, "For these women that are into science and technology, we must use some hi-tech means to court them." He then acquired a rare, antique 1991 four-rotor helicopter drone. Later that day, Nan Qiao received a package containing a remote control. Her team recognized it as belonging to the very antique drone she had been searching for.
A note on the remote instructed her to meet Shi Yue that night at 8 PM at Lucid Dream, daring her to come. Unable to resist the allure of the drone, Nan Qiao accepted. At their meeting, Shi Yue presented the antique drone, which was a validation prototype for the technology described in Dr. Thyssen Friedrich's German research paper—the very source of Nan Qiao's current drone technology.
Shi Yue told Nan Qiao, "This is the reason why I wanted to invest in you." He praised her for being "very unique" as a woman in the drone business. Nan Qiao, however, humbly replied, "I am actually not as good as everyone thinks." She explained that she pursued drone research abroad after Chang Jianxiong showed her that German thesis seven years ago, attributing her success and the concept of indoor hovering technology to him.
Shi Yue's expression immediately darkened upon hearing this. He had previously suspected Nan Qiao of stealing his military academy research. Hearing her credit Chang Jianxiong for indoor levitation technology, which was actually his own initial concept, Shi Yue realized that Chang Jianxiong was the true plagiarist. This clarification dispelled his subtle animosity towards Nan Qiao. Sensing Shi Yue's sudden shift in mood, Nan Qiao inquired if they were still going to fly the drone.
Shi Yue, troubled by the revelation, simply told her, "Not flying. You just leave first." He promised that one day he would take her to truly fly under the Milky Way and share his experiences from the past seven years. Shi Yue then sank into his own painful memories. Seven years prior, he had fought hard for the privilege to translate that very German thesis on drones.
However, his life took a drastic turn when he received an urgent call from the hospital. He rushed there, but it was too late; his father had passed away. His father, a gambling addict, had left behind enormous debts that now fell squarely on Shi Yue's shoulders. After being expelled from the academy, Shi Yue was relentlessly tormented by the loan sharks his father owed. They bound him and subjected him to various forms of torture, leaving deep psychological scars.
Though skilled in combat, Shi Yue did not retaliate, accepting the torment as a consequence of his father's actions. This period of his life was a living hell. Meanwhile, Chang Jianxiong, deeply troubled by Shi Yue's return, sought solace in a Japanese restaurant, drinking heavily. He confided in the owner about his years-long, fruitless search for Shi Junqing.
The owner, who also knew Shi Junqing, poured Chang Jianxiong a glass from a bottle Shi Junqing had left there seven years ago, intended for their graduation celebration. Chang Jianxiong poured a second glass, placing it across from him as if for his old friend, now his enemy. He reminisced about their close friendship in military school, building model aircraft together and sharing dreams. Lost in his drunken state, he imagined Shi Junqing was there, drinking with him.
Heavily intoxicated, Chang Jianxiong ended up singing loudly outside Nan Qiao's father's house. Nan Qiao's father and a repairman, who had arrived for service, helped carry the drunk Chang Jianxiong inside.
