Feng Tianyi, to his own surprise, bares his heart to Yi Fuling, who never expected to become friends with him, a notion that saddens Feng Tianyi. Meanwhile, Yu Haizhen excitedly brings Ji Shu to his residence, showcasing his inventions and pleading with Ji Shu to become his master. Yu Haizhen mentions Yi Fuling, leading to the shocking revelation that Ji Shu is Yi Fuling's father, Yi Qianji, who is alive. Ji Shu then tells Yu Haizhen to cook.
Feng Tianyi is enraged to discover that the Regent, Feng Ren, has replaced all his palace staff and seized the Golden Feather Token, which commands the imperial guard, leaving him without his last leverage. Yi Fuling initially assures Feng Tianyi she will stay by his side, but he asks her to leave first. Back in her chambers, Yi Fuling encounters a musician named Nanfeng, a palace zither player (who is Feng Ren in disguise).
He asks her to listen to his zither playing of "Yin Meng," and she impresses him with her keen hearing, discerning the melancholy story within the music. Nanfeng suggests she play this piece for the Regent's upcoming birthday, promising that if the Regent is pleased, he will grant her any wish. Yi Fuling is delighted and prepares to practice. Xue Feishuang discovers Yi Fuling's continued presence and that Feng Tianyi has confided in her.
Enraged, she confronts Yi Fuling, pushing over her zither (or breaking the one Nanfeng left). Though Xue Feishuang disdains resorting to foul play, her maid, Xue Qing, secretly plots against Yi Fuling. On the day of the birthday banquet, Yi Fuling finds her zither's strings severed. Her maid schemes to have Yi Fuling borrow the precious "Bi Tong" zither. At the banquet, Feng Tianyi and the ministers await the Regent.
When Yi Fuling arrives with the "Bi Tong", Feng Tianyi is furious and orders her removed. Her maid intentionally trips Yi Fuling, causing the "Bi Tong" to shatter. Just then, Feng Ren arrives, distressed by the broken zither, revealing his identity as Nanfeng. In a fit of rage, Feng Ren attempts to choke Yi Fuling, but Feng Tianyi intervenes, fighting him publicly. Xue Feishuang tries to mediate.
Feng Ren stops only when he sees the Starflow Flower mark behind Yi Fuling's ear. He then forcibly takes Yi Fuling to his Xuanqin Hall, with Feng Tianyi frantically pursuing them. Feng Tianyi fights Pei Yu to enter Xuanqin Hall, where he passionately confesses his love to Yi Fuling, kissing and embracing her. Feng Ren then appears.
Feng Tianyi attempts to take Yi Fuling away, but Feng Ren proposes she make a choice: if she chooses Feng Tianyi, she will be crowned Empress of the Winged Tribe the next day. However, Yi Fuling chooses to stay with Feng Ren as his female official in Xuanqin Hall, rejecting Feng Tianyi. Heartbroken and angry, Feng Tianyi leaves the palace.
Yi Fuling's decision is a ruse; her keen hearing allowed her to overhear Feng Ren's secret conversation with Xue Lin about his conspiracy. She intends to stay to uncover their plot and protect Feng Tianyi. Earlier, Feng Ren had warned Xue Lin not to attempt to assassinate Feng Tianyi again, indicating they share a common goal and that everything must follow Feng Ren's plan. Meanwhile, Bi Anhua leads Bai Tingjun to Yixiantian Cliff to find clues.
Feigning a leg injury and asking Bai Tingjun to carry her, she discusses his past with Yi Fuling. She then jumps to the cliff edge, reveals the Bi Anhua pattern on her back, and instructs Bai Tingjun to close his eyes, preparing to disclose the true meaning of a secret message.
