Never Say Goodbye Episode 35 Recap
> Never Say Goodbye Recap
Ou Kexin confronted Mr. Ou, stating that Yan Jing's aggressive actions against Mu Qing must have been at his instruction. She then asked if he still suspected Mu Qing. Mr. Ou admitted his suspicion, citing the high stakes of their business and the many problems the group had faced as reasons. He added that if one made a wrong move, they would lose their life, and that Ou Kexin should not be questioning or irritating him.
Ou Kexin insisted that Mu Qing had accompanied her to the hospital, asking if he now doubted her word too. Mr. Ou replied that he couldn't trust anyone at the moment. Ou Kexin then left in anger. Outside, Li Ruosheng tried to reassure Ou Kexin, saying that Mu Qing was lucky and would be found. He mentioned that Mr. Ou was suspicious, especially after Ou Kexin and Mu Qing had run into Yan Jing at the hospital.
Ou Kexin, still angry, told Li Ruosheng to shut up. Li Ruosheng became frustrated, asking why she was so mean to him and blaming her for Mu Qing going to the hot spring. He asserted that Mu Qing was his brother, he would never harm him, and he was as worried as she was about Mu Qing's unknown fate. He just wanted Mu Qing to be alive.
After dropping Ou Kexin off at her studio, Li Ruosheng advised her not to worry too much and promised to inform her if he heard anything. Meanwhile, Yan Jing attempted to explain the situation to Mr. Ou, but Mr. Ou cut him off, demanding he quickly find Mu Qing, as Mu Qing knew too many secrets. Ou Kexin touched a bloodstained doorknob at her studio, rushed inside, and found a severely injured Mu Qing. He collapsed from blood loss.
Ou Kexin immediately brought him to Doctor Wang. Doctor Wang explained that Mu Qing was in hemorrhagic shock and desperately needed a blood transfusion. Ou Kexin insisted that her blood be used, stating that both she and Mu Qing had Type A blood. Even after Ou Kexin had already donated 400ml of blood, Doctor Wang informed her that it wasn't enough and she would be in danger if she continued.
However, Ou Kexin vehemently insisted, telling Doctor Wang not to worry about her and to just save Mu Qing. Doctor Wang promised to do his best, acknowledging her by her real name, Rong Yu. The next day, Mu Qing woke up and thanked Doctor Wang. Doctor Wang revealed that Ou Kexin had contacted him in time and donated 800ml of her blood, saving Mu Qing's life, and that it had been a very close call.
He assured Mu Qing that it was safe there and advised him to rest. Mu Qing later tried to get up, but Ou Kexin insisted he go back to bed because he was still badly injured. Doctor Wang was the same person who had performed plastic surgery on Rong Yu three years prior. He expressed his surprise at seeing her again, recalling his concerns about the rushed surgery he performed before she left for France, and complimented her recovery.
Ou Kexin, grateful, then implored Doctor Wang to keep her identity a secret, promising not to tell anyone about it. Yan Jing, furious that his numerous men still hadn't found Mu Qing, hit one of his subordinates and called them useless. He then started to piece together Ou Kexin's coincidental appearances at the hospital and at Mr. Ou's home, remembering her words at the hospital.
He connected these to the police finding Xiaoyue and Congtou going missing, which further fueled his suspicion. He thoroughly searched his car, looking for clues, but found nothing. He wondered if he was mistaken. One of his subordinates suggested watching Ou Kexin, reasoning that Mu Qing would likely contact her first. Yan Jing dismissed this, believing Mu Qing wouldn't dare to return. Ou Kexin prepared a blood-boosting soup for Mu Qing.
Mu Qing questioned how she knew Doctor Wang, and Ou Kexin explained that Doctor Wang was Director Liu's friend and had been secretly treating her wounds as well, so he was trustworthy. Mu Qing then explained that undercover agents often get injured to make their cover believable, but he had always been lucky. Ou Kexin urged Mu Qing to end his undercover mission, stating that Group K was crumbling, with only Yan Jing remaining of the Four Vajras.
She insisted that she would handle Yan Jing, as both Mr. Ou and Yan Jing now suspected Mu Qing, making his position extremely dangerous. Mu Qing firmly refused, arguing that he had been working for too long to quit now. He reminded her that they were supposed to work together and that he would continue his mission until he received direct orders from his superiors.
He also claimed he had a plan to salvage his cover and asked to meet with Rong Yao in person. Doctor Wang called Director Liu to report that Mu Qing had recovered but refused to abandon his mission and wished to meet Rong Yao. Rong Yao then met with Mu Qing and tried to persuade him to end his undercover work, emphasizing that his mission was largely complete with only Yan Jing remaining.
However, Mu Qing insisted he had a plan and couldn't leave, especially with Spectre about to appear, as Ou Kexin would need his help. Rong Yao relayed this to Director Liu, expressing his surprise at Mu Qing's stubbornness. Director Liu, deeming Mu Qing's situation too dangerous, ordered Rong Yao to coordinate with Rong Yu (Ou Kexin's true identity) to bring Mu Qing back immediately, and he would report to Director Wang.
Rong Yao then informed Ou Kexin that he would handle Mu Qing's situation and asked for her cooperation. He gave her new contact codes, safe house locations, and emergency contacts. He then instructed her to enter the second phase of her mission: to gradually take over Mr. Ou's business to track down Spectre. He emphasized that she must remain vigilant and remember her true identity. Ou Kexin assured him that she knew exactly who she was.
A flashback revealed that three years prior, after being disfigured in an explosion, Rong Yu had insisted to Director Wang that she undergo immediate plastic surgery and go to France to impersonate the deceased Ou Kexin. She believed her ruined face and French language skills could still be useful in the mission, otherwise, she would feel useless. She also asked Director Wang to keep her true identity a secret from Rong Yao and Mu Qing.
Director Wang agreed to her terms, promising to be the only one to know her true identity and to arrange her transfer to France. In the present, Ou Kexin (Rong Yu) reflected on how she had dedicated three years in France to fully embody Ou Kexin, but never forgot her true identity as a police officer. She assured Rong Yao she would be careful at this critical juncture.
Ou Kexin falsely told Mu Qing that the organization had approved his continued undercover work, but he needed to leave the province for a while to solidify his previous actions and avoid suspicion. Mu Qing readily agreed, eager to contact Li Ruosheng upon his return. Ou Kexin gave him clothes and instructions to meet an officer, Xiaozhang, at a bus stop. Xiaozhang picked him up, and during the trip, Mu Qing transferred to Rong Yao's car.
Mu Qing was puzzled by Rong Yao's presence but didn't think much of it until Rong Yao handed him an envelope containing a plane ticket and new identity documents, revealing that he was being sent to Thailand to permanently exit his undercover role. Mu Qing immediately demanded the car stop.
Rong Yao explained that it was not only the organization's decision but also Ou Kexin's wish, as Mu Qing's mission was complete, and Ou Kexin's (Skylark's) task was to apprehend Spectre. Mu Qing argued that Ou Kexin's identity as Mr. Ou's daughter wouldn't grant her access to Group K's core operations, but he could.
He revealed his "bitter trick" strategy: despite Yan Jing's suspicion, he had successfully provoked a conflict between Yan Jing and Li Ruosheng, making Li Ruosheng believe Yan Jing was targeting Mu Qing. Abandoning the mission now would negate all his efforts, a prospect he couldn't accept.
Rong Yao then handed Mu Qing a letter from Ou Kexin (Skylark), which reiterated the organization's and her personal desire for him to leave, noting his mission was nearly complete and hers was just beginning, which would be more dangerous. Reading the letter only strengthened Mu Qing's resolve to return, feeling even more compelled to assist Ou Kexin. He insisted on speaking directly to Director Wang, overriding Rong Yao's attempts to stop him.
On the phone, Mu Qing pleaded with Director Wang to allow him to continue his mission, stating his desire to personally capture Spectre and assuring him that he had a plan to mend his cover story. Rong Yao also spoke to Director Wang, supporting Mu Qing's request and expressing concern about Ou Kexin working alone.
Director Wang acknowledged Mu Qing's violation of protocol by contacting him directly, but considering Rong Yao's support and Mu Qing's proposal, he agreed to discuss it with Director Liu. He warned Mu Qing that if the higher-ups ultimately refused, he must comply, and instructed him to send his plans and to keep their direct communication a secret from Director Liu.
Director Liu contacted Director Wang via phone, having already guessed that Mu Qing had approached Director Wang to continue his mission after being turned down by Liu. Director Wang, while agreeing with Liu that Mu Qing should be brought back due to the danger, suggested that Mu Qing was the most suitable person to assist Rong Yu (Skylark) within Group K, hinting that Director Liu's decision to pull Mu Qing out was perhaps forced.
Director Wang promised to send an operation plan for Mu Qing's return and asked Director Liu to make a careful decision after reviewing it. He then confided that while Mu Qing was unaware of Ou Kexin's true identity as Rong Yu, their continued collaboration despite all difficulties was a blessing for Mu Qing. Both agreed that keeping Rong Yu's identity a secret was a brutal but necessary sacrifice for the mission.
Spectre contacted Mr. Ou via phone, informing him that he would arrive in Yungang the following month and giving Mr. Ou the freedom to set the exact date. Spectre emphasized his priority was security, and Mr. Ou assured him he understood and would handle everything. Mr. Ou called Li Ruosheng and Ou Kexin for a meeting. First, he appointed Li Ruosheng as his second-in-command, to work alongside Yan Jing.
Li Ruosheng was hesitant and asked why, but Ou Kexin, interrupting, told him to accept. Li Ruosheng worried about how he'd manage without Mu Qing, who handled many operations. Ou Kexin then offered to help Mr. Ou with his business. However, Mr. Ou then instructed Ou Kexin to leave China, preferably to France, and specifically not to stay in Yungang.
When Ou Kexin questioned why, guessing it was because Spectre was arriving, Mr. Ou explained that a major deal crucial to the group's survival was imminent. He cited the arrests of Dakun, Congtou, and Guanyin, stating the group was in disarray, and he couldn't risk her safety by keeping her in Yungang. He ordered Li Ruosheng to arrange Ou Kexin's departure quickly and to keep it a secret from Yan Jing.
After the meeting, Li Ruosheng remarked to Ou Kexin that Mr. Ou seemed to distrust Yan Jing now and was surprised to be promoted to second-in-command. Ou Kexin retorted, questioning if he genuinely believed Mr. Ou thought he was capable. Li Ruosheng conceded that there was no one else available, especially with Mu Qing missing. Ou Kexin, still resistant to leaving, then asked Li Ruosheng to help her stay, as she didn't want to leave.
However, Li Ruosheng refused, reminding her that he had already promised Mr. Ou. He insisted on taking her home immediately to pack, planning for her departure within two days. Mr. Ou then informed a shocked Yan Jing that he would now work with Li Ruosheng. Yan Jing, though clearly unhappy, quickly agreed, claiming that despite past misunderstandings, they were all part of the same group and needed to prioritize peace for business.
Mr. Ou saw through Yan Jing's pretense, pointing out his cautious yet narrow-minded and vengeful nature. He then instructed Yan Jing to set aside his issues with Li Ruosheng and focus on a more critical task: organizing Spectre's arrival in Yungang next month. Mr. Ou emphasized that there should be no mistakes and that Spectre must witness the group's strength. This information was to remain strictly between Mr. Ou and Yan Jing.
He reiterated the importance of a "safe and steady" operation, warning Yan Jing that any further conflict with Li Ruosheng would be considered a direct challenge to him. Mr. Ou also reminded Yan Jing to find Mu Qing as soon as possible, as he knew too many secrets.
