Always on the Move Episode 16 Recap
> Always on the Move Recap
Yao Yuling brought Niu Dali hot dumplings, asking about his injured hand. He told her it was much better and there was nothing to be afraid of for a man like him. She insisted he eat, even feeding him a dumpling, teasing him when he found it hot but delicious. He remarked on her effort in making them. On New Year's Eve, Wang Yongge prepared a feast.
He and Wang Xin shared a drink, with Wang Yongge encouraging Wang Xin to visit Ma Kui the next morning to improve his chances of being transferred back from Hongyang Station. Wang Xin eagerly recounted how he had solved several cases at Hongyang, including one involving a trickster who manipulated currency exchange and another using a small mechanism in a store, which made Wang Yongge proud.
New Year's Day began with firecrackers in the railway compound as residents, dressed in new clothes, set out to pay visits. At the Ma household, Ma Kui assigned his daughter, Ma Yan, the task of handling reciprocal greetings for visitors. Cai Xiaonian and Niu Dali were waiting in the courtyard.
When Yao Yuling came out dressed in new clothes, she and Ma Yan discovered they were wearing not only similar outfits but also identical scarves, which seemed to irritate Ma Yan. Niu Dali suggested they go find Wang Xin, but Wang Xin, having drunk too much the night before, was still asleep. They decided to go ahead without him. Wang Yongge returned home after paying visits to find Wang Xin still deeply asleep.
Assuming he hadn't sobered up, Wang Yongge didn't wake him. As residents came to visit the Ma family, Wang Xin's absence was noted. While Ma Kui didn't explicitly say anything, his wife, Wang Sufang, and daughter, Ma Yan, could tell he was upset by the oversight. Wang Xin finally woke up when it was already dark. He quickly got dressed and rushed to Ma Kui's home to pay his New Year respects.
Wang Xin tried to explain his late arrival, but Ma Kui was unforgiving, dismissing him abruptly. Ma Yan rolled her eyes at her father in frustration. Despite his sternness, Ma Kui had prepared a red envelope for Wang Xin. He gave it to Ma Yan to pass on, instructing her to tell Wang Xin to be more careful and less reckless in his work, or he would cause trouble without supervision.
Wang Xin felt touched by this message, understanding that Ma Kui cared for him despite his tough exterior. After the holiday, Wang Xin returned to Hongyang Station with renewed enthusiasm. Meanwhile, Niu Dali bought a new bicycle for Yao Yuling, which she loved but didn't know how to ride. Niu Dali patiently taught her how to balance and pedal. Ma Yan took leave to visit Wang Xin at Hongyang. They took a walk on a hill with a good view.
Ma Yan urged Wang Xin to speak to Ma Kui and try to get transferred back, but Wang Xin, knowing Ma Kui's temperament, was hesitant to risk offending him. Learning that Ma Yan was with Wang Xin, Ma Kui called Hongyang Station and left a message for Wang Xin to call him back upon his return. As Wang Xin and Ma Yan walked and talked, they found themselves deep in a wooded area. Suddenly, a heavy thunderstorm broke out.
Wang Xin led Ma Yan to a nearby bunker left over from a past war for shelter, giving her his outer garment to keep warm. Back home, Ma Kui was increasingly anxious because Wang Xin hadn't called back. Wang Sufang tried to reassure him. As darkness fell, Ma Yan shivered from the cold. Wang Xin held her close to share warmth. This close contact stirred feelings between them, and they shared a kiss.
The next morning, the rain stopped, and they headed back to Wang Xin's dormitory. Ma Yan called home to let her parents know she was safe and learned that Ma Kui was already on a train heading to Hongyang. Anticipating trouble, Wang Xin groaned inwardly. Ma Yan suggested he pretend to be sick to appease her father. Ma Kui arrived at the dormitory in an agitated state.
Ma Yan waited by the door, attempting to smooth things over and explaining they were stuck by the rain. Learning they had spent the night together in the bunker, Ma Kui insisted Ma Yan wait outside, stating he needed to talk to Wang Xin alone. Ma Yan reluctantly stayed outside, worried. Inside, Ma Kui quickly saw through Wang Xin's fake illness. He pressed him sternly about the previous night in the bunker.
Wang Xin confessed they had stayed there, explaining the heavy rain and the cold. Ma Kui, furious, grabbed Wang Xin by the neck. Ma Yan rushed back in to intervene, forcing Ma Kui to release Wang Xin and leave in anger. Ma Yan safely returned home, where Wang Sufang fussed over her, offering ginger soup and expressing her fear about the night in the bunker. She cautiously asked if anything intimate had happened between them.
Ma Yan vehemently denied it, which relieved her mother. Ma Kui instructed Wang Sufang to watch Ma Yan and prevent her from seeing Wang Xin again, though Wang Sufang expressed resignation about controlling her grown daughter. Later, Wang Xin and Lin Jianjun were walking when they saw a thief known to Wang Xin trying to swindle people. The thief and a woman were working together, staging an accident to extort money from a passerby.
Wang Xin watched as they collected the money and then moved aside to split it. Wang Xin apprehended them on the spot while they were dividing the money and called Ma Kui to report the arrest, emphasizing he had caught them red-handed, ensuring they would face consequences.
