Following the freezer incident, Li Yanzhi, now convinced of Xue Ling Qiao's unusual nature, seeks answers from Ye Chen at the research center. Ye Chen apologizes for concealing that Professor Li deliberately injured Tian Jingzhi on set to obtain her blood. Li Yanzhi asks who might have hijacked a police vehicle to rescue Professor Li, and Ye Chen admits the professor became erratic after the dormant body vanished.
Li Yanzhi speculates that the person who hired the killer after Tian Jingzhi may have allied with Professor Li. Ye Chen agrees, explaining that anyone aware of the dormant body's unique attributes would want him, especially since his value increased after waking. He adds that Tian Jingzhi is the only link to finding him. Ye Chen reveals that the research center's sponsor, whose identity is unknown beyond receiving overseas transfers, must have known about the body's nature.
Their conversation is cut short by news that Professor Li's secret home lab has been burned down, destroying evidence. Li Yanzhi cautions Ye Chen to keep the "monster's" existence a secret to protect him. At the hospital, Xue Ling Qiao cares for Tian Jingzhi, who expresses her comfort in his embrace and confesses she likes him even more now.
Meanwhile, the mysterious sponsor reprimands Professor Li for his rash actions, warning that the next failure will be worse than losing a finger. Professor Li pleads for his family's safety, explaining his daughter Annie's grave illness drove him to capture Xue Ling Qiao for a cure. The sponsor dismisses his excuses, provides him with lab equipment and a final blood sample, and orders him to find a way to permanently kill the monster or his entire family will be killed.
After her discharge, Xue Ling Qiao takes Tian Jingzhi to the police station to give her statement. Li Yanzhi then speaks with Xue Ling Qiao, stating that while he still has suspicions, his perspective changed after seeing Xue Ling Qiao shield Tian Jingzhi with his own body in the freezer. To explain his concern, Li Yanzhi reveals he grew up with Tian Jingzhi as her "little follower," and they both rebelled against their parents' career plans.
He asks if Xue Ling Qiao loves her, and Xue Ling Qiao affirms it. Li Yanzhi, speaking as a friend, says he doesn't care about Xue Ling Qiao's secrets as long as he can protect Tian Jingzhi and give her a sense of security. On the drive home, Tian Jingzhi jokes that she survives her frequent accidents because a "thousand-year-old monster" lives with her; Xue Ling Qiao corrects her, saying he's a five-hundred-year-old "person."
At her apartment, Tian Jingzhi declares it's now his home too, having already asked Feng Dongdong to move his belongings over. When asked about Li Yanzhi's questions, she says she told him not to meddle. Xue Ling Qiao teases her for hurting her "little follower's" feelings, and she jokingly retorts that Li Yanzhi must be Xue Ling Qiao's ex-boyfriend, accusing him of being jealous. They then banter about their near-death experience.
Feeling guilty, Ye Chen recalls Professor Li's desperation over his daughter's illness, regretting not stopping him sooner. Tian Jingzhi, determined to make Xue Ling Qiao feel at home, sets her selfie as his phone wallpaper and, with Feng Dongdong's help, redecorates his new room with her poster and new bedding. She then sends Xue Ling Qiao out with a long shopping list while she has tea with Zhang Xuanxuan, encouraging her friend to pursue a relationship with Ye Chen.
Afterward, Zhang Xuanxuan calls Ye Chen, and despite his apology for a past incident, she curtly tells him it's best they have no relationship and hangs up. Separately, Li Yanzhi complains about being hung up on daily, implying it's by Zhang Xuanxuan. At the police station, Li Yanzhi and his colleague, Little Squid, examine a CD sent by the sister of the villa murder victim. It contains a video of a birthday party that shows the villa's original decor.
They return to the crime scene to compare the video footage with the current state of the villa and discover that a picture frame is missing. That evening, Tian Jingzhi prepares a candlelight dinner on the rooftop. After a few drinks, she confesses her love for Xue Ling Qiao, insisting she knows he feels the same and dismissing any "monster-human" barriers. As she tearfully asks for his answer, she passes out from the alcohol.
Visibly moved, Xue Ling Qiao begins to respond, but she is already asleep. He then receives a call about a villa he reserved, stating he needs more time to consider the purchase. Later, Xue Ling Qiao overhears a conversation revealing that a police officer had asked the victim's sister about the missing old photo, leading Li Yanzhi to confront him, accusing him of illegally impersonating an officer.
