Lucky With You Episode 35 Recap
> Lucky With You Recap
Wu Shiyi inquired why her mother, Zhang Yingnan, had suddenly supported her. Zhang Yingnan explained that Wu Shiyi reminded her of her own divorce from Wu Tianyi when she was almost forty, which everyone had opposed. But she had gone through with it, realizing that others couldn't truly understand the life one desired, and there was no need for them to.
Zhang Yingnan acknowledged Wu Shiyi's independence, admitting she felt regret for not knowing what her daughter had endured over the years. She observed that Wu Shiyi had matured significantly since her last breakup. While parents wish for their children's safety and smooth sailing, Zhang Yingnan realized Wu Shiyi was destined for an unconventional life and would no longer try to force her into a "normal" one.
When asked if she still couldn't let go of Hou Jue, Wu Shiyi denied it. However, Zhang Yingnan concluded that their connection was an undeniable fate and advised her to let things take their natural course. As the bidding conference approached, Bao Xiaohan and Hou Jue felt anxious but found comfort in each other. Bao Xiaohan noted his own nervousness and Hou Jue's, suggesting they be nervous together, treating the upcoming presentation like an exam to showcase their hard work.
Hou Jue shared his father’s advice not to always assume victory, and Wu Shiyi’s perspective that athletes focus on execution rather than winning or losing. He felt they were in that focused state. Bao Xiaohan agreed, feeling that merely presenting their proposal was already a win. Hou Jue playfully added that his "cervical vertebra" predicted a miracle. Hou Jue guessed that his father, Hou Zhirong, a man who loved challenges, was probably intensely scolding someone.
His guess was accurate; Hou Zhirong was indeed berating employees for a labeling error, even mistakenly calling out a "Ma Yong" before correcting himself. On the day of the bidding, Hou Jue presented his team’s proposal for the Reggie Hotel project, highlighting the coexistence of structure and beauty, referencing the renowned architect I. M. Pei. Hou Zhirong, confident in Zhirong Construction's own proposal, was dismissive of Dawang Company’s outsourced design team, Hedgehog Workshop, claiming he had never heard of them.
To his shock, Dawang Company, with Hedgehog Workshop's design, won the project with unanimous votes. Hou Zhirong was furious, almost collapsing at the loss to the young team he had dismissed. Meanwhile, Hou Jue and Bao Xiaohan celebrated their victory, with Bao Xiaohan suggesting a celebratory meal and a salary raise for the team. A visibly distraught Hou Zhirong was driven home. He received an urgent call from Mr. Liao at the company, demanding his presence.
Hou Zhirong angrily questioned why everything had to wait for him and if he couldn't even catch his breath. Upon arriving home, his troubles mounted when the live-in aunt informed him she was leaving at the end of the month because her daughter-in-law was about to give birth. Hou Zhirong, already overwhelmed, lost his temper, demanding she leave immediately. After she left, he collapsed onto the floor.
Later that night, in a fit of despair, Hou Zhirong drank alcohol, triggering a heart attack. He struggled, using his last bit of strength to call 120 for help. Hou Jue rushed to the hospital to find his father's condition stable. Outside the ward, the doctor informed Hou Jue that his father had suffered a hypertensive heart attack, causing palpitations, and needed emotional stability.
The doctor revealed that Hou Zhirong had been his patient for five years, silently battling old cerebral infarction, atherosclerosis, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and suspected coronary heart disease, all maintained by medication. He sternly advised against high-stress work, emphasizing the need for rest and for family members to accompany him to future check-ups. Hou Jue was stunned, deeply regretting his previous neglect.
Later, Wu Shiyi received a phone call from Zhou Quan, who updated her on Hou Zhirong's condition and mentioned that Hou Jue was keeping vigil at the hospital, looking distressed. Zhou Quan suggested Wu Shiyi visit to offer encouragement. Qian Qian, overhearing the news, wanted to accompany Wu Shiyi but was reminded of her class. She offered her car instead.
Upon Wu Shiyi's arrival, Hou Jue expressed surprise and self-blame, regretting his preoccupation with the bidding and his lack of attention to his father's health. He speculated that losing the bid had likely triggered his father's collapse. Wu Shiyi reassured him, suggesting that Hou Zhirong probably didn't want him to know the extent of his illness due to his proud nature. She believed Hou Zhirong would ultimately be pleased to lose to his own son.
Hou Jue, while admitting his desire to win, confessed he truly wanted his own company to thrive but felt stifled by his father's domineering presence. Wu Shiyi offered comfort, saying that these experiences would help him understand his father better and it was not too late to start treating him well now. Shortly after, Hou Jue received a phone call reporting chaos at the company due to his father's illness.
Wu Shiyi encouraged him to go, assuring him she would stay with Hou Zhirong and keep him updated. At the company, Hou Jue addressed the employees, announcing Hou Zhirong's resignation as president of Zhirong Construction due to health reasons and his own immediate succession. He candidly laid out the company's precarious situation: the president's illness, an assistant's arrest, a failed bid, and financial difficulties.
Acknowledging his inexperience and the challenging path ahead, he offered severance packages to those who wished to leave, but warned those who stayed that they would face difficult times. He then scheduled a meeting in half an hour. Many employees chose to stay. In the subsequent meeting, Hou Jue expressed profound gratitude for their trust and continued support, bowing deeply to them.
A veteran employee, who had been with the company since Master Hou's time, praised Hou Jue for possessing both Hou Zhirong's decisive leadership and his own benevolence, pledging to postpone his retirement by ten years to support him. Other employees noted that Hou Jue had transformed the company's previously stifling atmosphere.
Hou Jue, feeling validated by their praise, outlined his initial plans: consolidating the design department, having everyone work in one area, and subletting surplus office space to ease financial burdens. An employee then proposed a partnership with Dawang Company on the Reggie Hotel project, leveraging their lack of experience and professional personnel to gain benefits for Zhirong Construction. Hou Jue supported this, pledging to use his efforts to secure these benefits for Zhirong Construction.
He concluded that with their unity, no challenge was insurmountable. Back at the hospital, Hou Jue was pleased to see Bao Xiaohan visiting Hou Zhirong. Bao Xiaohan expressed guilt for winning the bid against Hou Jue’s father, but Hou Jue dismissed it, praising Bao Xiaohan’s excellent work. Hou Jue then encouraged Bao Xiaohan to return to the company, as they needed him there. Soon after Bao Xiaohan left, Hou Zhirong awoke, feeling refreshed after his long sleep.
He noticed Wu Shiyi and thanked her for accompanying Hou Jue and for saving him and Hou Jue during a previous incident at the company. Hou Jue was surprised, finally realizing that Wu Shiyi was the person who had rescued his father during the hostage situation. Hou Zhirong then asked if the Reggie Hotel bid proposal was Hou Jue’s design. Hou Jue clarified that it was based on his design, but Bao Xiaohan and his team had executed it.
Hou Zhirong expressed his immense satisfaction, stating he had waited a long time for Hou Jue to be capable of taking on such responsibility, and he no longer wished to wait. He immediately announced his abdication, appointing Hou Jue as the new Chairman of Zhirong Construction. Hou Jue playfully remarked that his father's announcement came too late, as he had already taken over the company and was now "Chairman Hou."
He urged his father to focus solely on his recovery, assuring him that the company still needed him. Hou Zhirong, while pleased, playfully accused Hou Jue of being "oily." Later, as Hou Jue walked Wu Shiyi out of the hospital, he confirmed he would temporarily manage the company but planned to hire a professional manager.
He believed that Zhirong Construction's family business model was a source of its problems, and to grow and retain talent, ownership and management should be separated and entrusted to professionals. Wu Shiyi was impressed by his foresight. Hou Jue then revealed that he envisioned the company continuing for generations, passed down to his son, and that Wu Shiyi was an integral part of his future plans, causing her to blush.
Wu Shiyi bid him farewell, affectionately calling him "Bye, Little Monkey." That night, Hou Zhirong, unable to sleep, questioned Hou Jue about the progress of his relationship with Wu Shiyi. Hou Jue sighed, lamenting that their relationship, which had been developing well, had regressed to an "innocent acquaintance relationship" due to his father's constant interference.
