Hou Zhirong sighed, acknowledging Ma Yong's significant contributions to Zhirong Construction over the years. He admitted that his own past mistakes had led Ma Yong astray, stating that since he was the one who sowed the seeds, he must bear the consequences.
Hou Zhirong believed that if he couldn't forgive Ma Yong, then he himself was the one who deserved forgiveness even less. Soon after, concerned about Liu Tiehao's impending release from detention, Hou Zhirong contacted Mr. Zhao to swiftly upgrade Hou Jue's security arrangements. Hou Jue, observing his father's decision, felt his father had aged, and he realized he didn't truly understand Hou Zhirong, just as he had often felt his father didn't understand him.
Wu Shiyi encouraged Hou Jue to return to his father's side, but Hou Jue declined, explaining that it wasn't the right time. He wanted to return only when he had developed enough ability and strength to truly assist Hou Zhirong, believing it would be more meaningful then. Meanwhile, Liu Tiehao was released from prison. His first call was to Ma Yong, but he learned Ma Yong was in trouble.
With loan sharks demanding repayment of 15,000, including interest, within three days, Liu Tiehao grew desperate. Seeing Hou Jue's interview on TV, resentment simmered in him, and he decided to target Hou Jue. Hou Jue returned to his apartment to collect some belongings and shared the news of Ma Yong's arrest with Hai Xing.
He explained that Ma Yong had been responsible for embezzling company funds and stealing bidding plans, which was a huge blow to his father, a betrayal by his most trusted person. Upon hearing this, Hai Xing couldn't stand steadily and ran upstairs to cry loudly. Zhou Quan was once again assigned as Hou Jue's bodyguard.
When asked how he knew Hou Jue's whereabouts, Zhou Quan revealed that he had been secretly protecting him ever since Hou Jue left home, even following him to Shenzhen, without Hou Jue ever noticing. Later, Bao Xiaohan excitedly informed Hou Jue that Dawang Company was very interested in their design proposal.
However, he also mentioned that Zhirong Construction's proposal this time was personally handled by Hou Zhirong, and he worried that if their team won, Hou Jue might feel uncomfortable about defeating his own father. Hou Jue dismissed the concern, stating he had been waiting for this very day to compete head-on. Liu Tiehao planned to attack Hou Jue at the South Bay Resort Hotel's opening ceremony the next day, using him to extort money from Hou Zhirong.
He told his accomplices that a crowded venue would provide better cover for their actions. At the opening ceremony, Lanqi had invited Wu Tianyi and Zhang Yingnan. Chen Chen, finding the event tiresome, sat in a nearby restaurant and called Hou Jue. Liu Tiehao overheard their conversation. She instructed only Hou Jue to enter.
Meanwhile, Liu Tiehao's group, having misremembered the room number, went to the wrong floor and found the room empty, thwarting their plan to intercept Hou Jue. Inside the room, Chen Chen handed Hou Jue a phone displaying an apology video from Zhang Sheng, a vital piece of evidence. Elsewhere, Wu Shiyi spotted Liu Tiehao and his accomplices on the hotel's surveillance footage and immediately called Zhou Quan, instructing him to keep a close watch on Hou Jue.
Zhou Quan diligently stood guard outside the room, scrutinizing everyone who passed. Seeing Zhou Quan at the door, Liu Tiehao and his group decided to back off. After they left the hotel, Wu Shiyi and Zhou Quan breathed a sigh of relief. Throughout the event, Lanqi had been observing Wu Shiyi's movements and asked to speak with her after the reception.
Chen Chen explained to Hou Jue that her often "domineering, capricious, and princess-like" demeanor was merely a self-protective mechanism, not her true self. She earnestly asked Hou Jue for a chance to get to know her better. Hou Jue, taken aback by her sudden change in attitude, politely declined. He revealed that he had recently confessed his feelings to a girl in front of many people, and despite her lack of response, he intended to persist.
Chen Chen correctly guessed that the girl was Wu Shiyi. Accepting this, she sincerely wished them happiness and no longer pursued him. She then jokingly suggested a "brotherly hug," which Hou Jue declined, citing his white suit. Later, as Lanqi and Wu Shiyi walked by the sea, he unexpectedly pulled out a ring and proposed marriage. Wu Shiyi was flustered, finding the proposal too sudden.
She acknowledged Lanqi as a good person who treated her and her parents well, but she emphasized that love was not a competition; if the feeling wasn't there, it simply wasn't. Lanqi understood that Wu Shiyi's heart belonged to Hou Jue. He threw the ring into the sea, declaring that their personal relationship would end there. As for her job, he left it up to her whether to stay or leave, assuring her that they would always remain friends.
Wu Tianyi and Zhang Yingnan were deeply disappointed when they heard Wu Shiyi's decision, fearing she might never find anyone with better prospects than Lanqi. However, Wu Shiyi insisted that she only wanted to find someone she genuinely loved. She stated her desire to choose her own path in life, regardless of whether or when she married or to whom. Her parents, though disappointed, ultimately chose to respect her decision.
