Before they left, Wu Shiyi noticed a tag still attached to Hou Jue’s suit and quickly stepped forward to remove it. Observing this interaction, Qian Qian paused, a distant look in her eyes, as if remembering moments from her past with Hou Zhirong. Moments after Hou Jue and Qian Qian departed, Wu Shiyi experienced a sudden stomachache.
Hai Xing, understanding her condition, immediately poured her a cup of brown sugar water. During the car ride to the airport, Qian Qian remained visibly upset, barely acknowledging Hou Jue. He tried to engage her in conversation, but she sharply reminded him that her temperament was not as forgiving as Wu Shiyi’s and instructed him to stay quiet in the back seat.
Upon arrival at the airport, Hou Jue realized he had forgotten his laptop, a critical item for his upcoming presentation. Mr. Zhao informed him that Hou Jue had priority for renewal under their current contract, and Lanqi wasn't the only one pursuing her. Lanqi, undeterred, offered Wu Shiyi double her current salary, the ability to bring four teammates, and, more significantly, proposed a strategic partnership where his group's extensive future security work across five new hotels would be managed by Mr. Zhao's company if the deal went through. Mr. Zhao was clearly swayed by the generous offer.
Meanwhile, Zhang Yingnan, Wu Shiyi's mother, went to Zhirong Construction looking for her daughter. She was vaguely informed that Wu Shiyi had left the company with Mr. Hou. Growing worried, she called Wu Shiyi. The conversation quickly revealed that Wu Shiyi was in the hospital, a fact Zhang Yingnan had been unaware of. Rushing to her daughter's bedside, Zhang Yingnan expressed deep concern, recounting Wu Shiyi's recent misfortunes, from being wronged to undergoing emergency surgery.
She reminded Wu Shiyi that she was no longer a young girl and shouldn't be sacrificing her time and future for a "down-and-out poor boy" like Hou Jue, especially when Lanqi was offering such a stable and promising career path. Wu Shiyi tried to explain her relationship with Hou Jue was purely professional, but Zhang Yingnan remained unconvinced.
When Hou Jue returned to the room, Zhang Yingnan, seemingly leaving, subtly asked him to escort her, intending to speak with him privately. Outside, Zhang Yingnan thanked Hou Jue for his care of Wu Shiyi, acknowledging her daughter's good recovery. She then directly confronted Hou Jue, stating that Wu Shiyi had sacrificed enough for him, even almost losing her life.
She reminded him that given his current lack of income and the burden of paying Wu Shiyi's salary, he should consider her best interests. Zhang Yingnan revealed that Lanqi, whom Hou Jue knew, was offering Wu Shiyi a secure and comfortable future, free from danger, where her talents would be fully utilized. She urged Hou Jue, as Wu Shiyi's good friend, to recognize that he should let her pursue this more stable path. Hou Jue listened, his expression somber, understanding her message.
