Wu Shiyi asked Hou Jue if he believed his decision to leave home was worthwhile. Hou Jue, while not entirely certain, stated that he saw it as a necessary path in life to meet the people he was meant to encounter. He explained his desire to enrich his life with diverse experiences, to venture out and grow, becoming a more interesting person. Wu Shiyi, who had initially intended to persuade him, changed her mind after hearing his reasoning.

She acknowledged his perspective, agreeing that sometimes one must traverse a difficult road to reach their destiny, and expressed her respect for his choice. Simultaneously, Shengda company unexpectedly raised the price of prefabricated boards by 8%, putting Zhirong Construction in a difficult position. Hou Zhirong understood this move signaled that Shengda no longer considered them allies.

Meanwhile, Hou Jue handed his secretary a bag containing all his car keys and bank cards, asking her to deliver them to Hou Zhirong, before returning to his company office to copy his personal documents and officially leaving Zhirong Construction. Upon receiving these items, Hou Zhirong realized Hou Jue was serious about cutting ties and abandoning everything related to the company.

Ma Zong, with ulterior motives, attempted to console Hou Zhirong, urging him not to dwell on it and suggesting that a period of hardship might do Hou Jue good. Despite his frustration with his rebellious son, Hou Zhirong felt he had no other option. In that moment, he clung to Ma Zong, whom he mistakenly believed to be loyal, as his only solace, expressing gratitude for his presence.

After officially leaving Zhirong Construction, Hou Jue and Wu Shiyi were walking downstairs when they noticed an electric scooter emitting smoke. Out of curiosity, Hou Jue approached it, unaware of the danger. Wu Shiyi, however, quickly sensed the imminent threat and, just moments before the scooter exploded, pushed Hou Jue to safety. She bore the brunt of the blast, sustaining injuries and falling unconscious.

Ma Zong, learning of the explosion near Hou Jue, immediately reported it to Hou Zhirong, who was furious and feared an assassination attempt on his son. Shortly thereafter, Ma Zong confirmed that Hou Jue was unharmed thanks to Wu Shiyi's quick actions, though she was injured and transported to the hospital. A greatly relieved Hou Zhirong expressed immense gratitude for Wu Shiyi’s presence.

At the hospital, a doctor informed them that Wu Shiyi suffered a skin wound to her left rib, requiring ten stitches, but fortunately, there was no internal organ damage. Police requested Hou Jue’s assistance with the investigation. Reluctant to leave Wu Shiyi, he was reassured by Qian Qian and Mr. Zhao, who promised to care for her. Mr. Zhao then assigned Zhou Quan to replace Wu Shiyi as Hou Jue’s 24-hour bodyguard.

Ma Zong later informed Hou Zhirong that his investigation confirmed the explosion was an accident caused by an aging electric scooter battery. He also mentioned that Hou Jue was currently staying with Hai Xing. Despite this, Hou Zhirong remained uneasy and selfishly insisted that Wu Shiyi continue to protect his son. He argued to Qian Qian that while Wu Shiyi had simply fulfilled her duties as a bodyguard, he perceived a unique bond between her and Hou Jue.

He felt that only with Wu Shiyi by Hou Jue’s side would he truly feel at peace. Qian Qian agreed to discuss this with Mr. Zhao. Following this, Hou Zhirong urged Qian Qian to resign from her bodyguard profession, expressing his deep fear that she might suffer a similar fate to Wu Shiyi. He emotionally declared that, with his heart condition and being alone, he could not bear it if anything happened to her.

Touched by his concern, Qian Qian agreed to resign. When she submitted her resignation to Mr. Zhao, he was surprised, reminding her of her previous vow to only leave for marriage and family. Qian Qian clarified that while she wasn’t getting married yet, her boyfriend wanted her to enjoy life. Understanding that women can be impulsive when in love, Mr. Zhao suggested she take a month of personal leave to reconsider her decision.

He also wished her happiness, hoping she would serve as an inspiration to other female bodyguards that they, too, could find a fulfilling life. After Wu Shiyi’s injury, Hou Jue meticulously oversaw her care, insisting she be treated as if recovering from childbirth, even preventing her from performing simple tasks. He and Hai Xing, meanwhile, were busy setting up their new office for their startup.

To help Hou Jue adapt to a more frugal lifestyle, Hai Xing took him to a street market under a bridge to buy necessities, teaching him how to bargain with vendors. Although initially hesitant, Hou Jue gradually adjusted to this new way of life. One evening, Wu Shiyi, unable to sleep, was watching old videos of herself winning championships.

Hou Jue joined her, revealing that he had been wanting to thank her and expressing that meeting her felt like a stroke of luck. Wu Shiyi took the opportunity to finally ask him what he had truly sold to Brother Tian's brother, doubting his earlier claims of discussing investment projects.

Seeing he could no longer conceal it, Hou Jue confessed that he had mortgaged his late mother's jade pendant for startup funds, with the intention of redeeming it in a couple of months. Shocked by the sale of such a precious family heirloom, Wu Shiyi firmly declared that she would not accept any bodyguard fees from him until he managed to redeem the jade, stating this as a prerequisite for her continued service.

Hou Jue protested, but Wu Shiyi remained resolute. Ma Zong desperately pleaded with Xiao Min to help him retrieve a plan one last time, to which she reluctantly agreed. Meanwhile, Qian Qian continued to post about her new happy life on social media. Hai Xing, who was increasingly bothered by this, received a message from Ma Zong detailing a meeting with a woman in a black mask at a cafe near Watsons to exchange documents.

Hai Xing located the woman but refused to hand over the file without upfront payment. In a moment of urgency, Ma Zong transferred the money, agreeing to complete the exchange at the same time and place the next day. However, Xiao Min subsequently blocked Ma Zong, having made this her final act of assistance. Hai Xing was astonished by the large sum transferred to him by Ma Zong.

Xiao Min had moved again, making her completely unreachable to Ma Zong, who was left distraught. Later, Hou Jue insisted on accompanying Wu Shiyi to the hospital for a dressing change. Wu Shiyi mentioned that she needed to organize her personal life that day as it was Zhang Yingnan’s birthday. Not to be outdone, Hou Jue secretly arranged for a band to surprise Zhang Yingnan and celebrate her birthday.
