Ma Zong aggressively interrogated Bao Xiaohan about the leaked project plan. Bao Xiaohan vehemently denied any involvement, repeatedly stating he had not done it. He expressed his disappointment and frustration at seeing his hard work, the design proposal, on Hou Jue's table, feeling as if his efforts were once again being attributed to someone else.
Bao Xiaohan then openly confronted Ma Zong and Hou Zhirong, reminding them that they had lured him away from his previous job with grand promises of significant compensation and a high-ranking position. Yet, none of those promises had materialized, and he felt he had been working for others' benefit. Now, he lacked even basic trust and respect from them. In a fit of anger, Bao Xiaohan resigned.
His departure only further solidified Hou Zhirong’s belief in his guilt, concluding that Bao Xiaohan must have stolen the file because he needed money, which was precisely the outcome Ma Zong desired. After Bao Xiaohan left, company employees discussed the incident, but Hou Jue didn't believe Bao Xiaohan was responsible. He was unsure whom to suspect instead.
During an emergency meeting, Hou Zhirong announced the theft of the Ruiji Hotel's bidding plan and declared Bao Xiaohan the primary suspect, stating that Bao Xiaohan had resigned. He instructed all company groups to remove Bao Xiaohan to prevent further information leaks. Hou Zhirong demanded the design department produce a new and superior proposal within three days, using Bao Xiaohan’s case as a warning to everyone.
He made it clear that any future similar incidents would be met with severe consequences. Meanwhile, Lanqi invited Zhang Yingnan and Wu Tianyi to test out his newly opened hotel. Both understood that his real intention was to get close to Wu Shiyi, and they debated whether they should go. Wu Shiyi, analyzing the file theft incident, had a gut feeling that the actions were not targeting Hou Jue but rather Hou Zhirong.
Hou Jue dismissed this idea, especially the suspicion towards Ma Zong, stating that his father's relationship with Ma Zong was even better than his own. Elsewhere, a guilt-ridden Hai Xing, upon hearing someone shout "Catch a thief," instinctively tensed up. He then comforted himself, praying to the God of Wealth that this would be his only transgression, promising to do more good deeds in the future.
Zhang Yingnan and Wu Tianyi arrived at Lanqi's hotel and were given two beautiful rooms with sea views. Zhang Yingnan was overjoyed. Wu Shiyi saw Zhang Yingnan's social media post and messaged her mother, Zhang Yingnan, to ask about it. Upon learning they were at Lanqi's hotel, she quickly sent Lanqi a thank-you message. Lanqi ambiguously replied that her happiness made him happy. When Hou Jue heard Lanqi's name, he immediately became tense and angrily called Lanqi "despicable."
Wu Tianyi, observing Lanqi's gestures, noted that his intentions were clear. He highlighted Lanqi's successful career and good financial standing, as well as his existing emotional connection with Wu Shiyi, as key advantages. Both Zhang Yingnan and Wu Tianyi were very satisfied and resolved to remove any obstacles between Lanqi and Wu Shiyi. Separately, Hou Jue had arranged to go out with Chen Chen and others, planning to cook a big meal for them.
He brought many ingredients, intentionally remarking to Wu Shiyi that his culinary skills were a powerful tool for attracting women. Wu Shiyi showed little reaction, but Sister Zhang reacted strongly, scolding him for using her prepared ingredients for such purposes. Wu Shiyi, already aware of Chen Chen's intentions, deliberately interrupted him with feigned confusion about his hometown. Chen Chen, eavesdropping, was annoyed by the lack of progress but remained determined to pair them up. Upon arrival, Chen Chen attempted to have Hou Jue share a suite with her. Wu Shiyi, in her professional capacity, inspected the room first before leaving with her own room card. However, Chen Chen had strategically arranged for Wu Shiyi and Dazhuang to share a room.
Hou Jue discovered this and promptly escorted Dazhuang out. Shortly after, Chen Chen stormed in with Dazhuang to confront Wu Shiyi. Hou Jue quickly shielded Wu Shiyi, arguing that it was inappropriate for a man and a woman to share a room, especially since there was only one bed. Chen Chen, in a fit of aristocratic pique, ordered Wu Shiyi to "get out" and threatened to end business cooperation between their families.
Wu Shiyi, trying to de-escalate, offered to sleep on the sofa. But Hou Jue adamantly confronted Chen Chen, pulling Wu Shiyi away and declaring, "This isn't about the room! Wu Shiyi is my person, and no one can bully my person!" Wu Shiyi was deeply touched by Hou Jue's actions. She reflected that in her profession, she had often been misunderstood and looked down upon by clients, who sometimes treated her as a maid or minion.
Her psychological resilience had been built up over time to ignore such disrespect or focus on her work. Sister Zhang, hearing about the incident, empathized with Wu Shiyi and criticized Hou Jue as unreliable. Hou Jue admitted he hadn't anticipated his "reverse psychology" tactic would go so awry, acknowledging that his usual strategies didn't seem to work on Wu Shiyi.
Wu Shiyi then received messages from her parents, urging her to join Lanqi as a senior executive at his hotel, hoping she wouldn't have to work so hard anymore. Exhausted, Wu Shiyi casually asked Hou Jue which path he would choose if given two options: one comfortable and smooth, and the other arduous and challenging. Though she spoke without much thought, Hou Jue enthusiastically embraced the philosophical question.
