Shui Wuxia moved her bed into Jiang Baiyu's room to sleep there, a decision Jiang Baiyu protested but found ineffective. That night, Jiang Baiyu attempted to sneak out while Shui Wuxia was asleep. He navigated obstacles to reach the door, but she discovered him as he tried to unlock it. The next morning, Shui Wuxia woke Jiang Baiyu by blowing a whistle near his ear.

She ordered him to make his bed, repeatedly making him redo it until it was neat. She then supervised his frog jumps and even imposed a time limit on his bath, to which Jiang Baiyu reluctantly succumbed. In a fit of defiance, Jiang Baiyu cut Shui Wuxia's whip and then threw books across the room. Shui Wuxia warned him that such defiance would lead to consequences.

Meanwhile, a black-clothed man found the craftsman who had repaired the Golden Phoenix Pin and had him draw a likeness of the person who brought it. The craftsman revealed that the person had lacked money and paid with two packets of herbal medicine, including ginseng and lucid ganoderma, which were known to be found only around North Bay Village. Separately, Zhe Zhi investigated at a pharmacy and discovered a connection to North Bay Village.

Jiang Tianling, inspired by the "Thirty-six Tactics of Love," prepared Pear Blossom Four-herbs Decoction in the pavilion. Seeing Shui Wuxia, he scooped a bowl to offer it to her, but just as he was about to feed it to her, Jiang Baiyu intervened, taking the bowl and drinking the soup himself. Later, Yun Cheng asked Jiang Baiyu for money to customize a facial mask for Qi Delong.

Jiang Baiyu explained that Shui Wuxia was now living with him and managing all his finances, so he had no money to lend. This revelation, combined with Jiang Baiyu's earlier comment about being "worn out" by Shui Wuxia, led Yun Cheng and others to mistakenly believe a romantic relationship existed between them, causing general shock. Jiang Baiyu quickly clarified the nature of their living arrangement. Zhe Zhi sent a note to Jiang Baiyu, urging him to come immediately.

As he tried to leave, Shui Wuxia blocked his path. Instructor Hou Chang'an then arrived. Jiang Baiyu fabricated a story, claiming that a new martial arts arena had opened in Chong'an and that Shui Wuxia had suggested they go to combine theory with practice. Although Shui Wuxia had said no such thing, seeing the item Shen Qingli had given her (which Jiang Baiyu was wearing), she reluctantly played along and supported his claim.

Instructor Hou agreed that combining theory with practice was beneficial and allowed everyone to go to "learn something." Upon arriving, they discovered the "martial arts arena" was actually a matchmaking event, where a lady would throw a satin bouquet to choose a husband. Jiang Baiyu tried to leave, but the bouquet unexpectedly landed in his hands, and he was promptly ushered onto the stage. Miss Yue'e made her grand entrance, surprising everyone.

Jiang Baiyu, clearly unenthusiastic, attempted to escape the situation, but Shui Wuxia intervened, taking back the item Shen Qingli had given her from Jiang Baiyu. Miss Yue'e understood the situation and blessed them, cancelling the match. Later, passing a gambling house, Shui Wuxia suggested they go in, and everyone entered. They encountered a man with remarkably sharp hearing. Shui Wuxia's friend was defeated, and even Shui Wuxia herself lost.

Seeing this, Jiang Baiyu decided to challenge the man, and in one swift game, he won a valuable hairpin. Jiang Baiyu wanted to continue gambling, but the other patrons, intimidated by his skill, dispersed. Ba Xi then informed Shui Wuxia that the person with the Golden Phoenix Pin was in North Bay Village, and she decided to go there personally.

Separately, Jiang Baiyu also learned about North Bay Village from Zhe Zhi, who indicated the village was under quarantine, making entry difficult. Shui Wuxia then approached Jiang Tianling, seeking to join his expedition to North Bay Village by claiming she had a best friend named "Meng Xi" there (which was also the title of Jiang Tianling's book). Jiang Tianling, citing the extreme danger due to the contagion, refused to take her.

Shui Wuxia, undeterred, resolved to find another way into the village. The next day, Shui Wuxia and Jiang Baiyu, both in disguise, managed to infiltrate North Bay Village by joining Jiang Tianling's convoy. Once inside, they went their separate ways. Shui Wuxia soon found a strange, empty house she suspected belonged to the man she was searching for. After searching it, she hid when she heard someone approaching. Shortly after, Jiang Baiyu entered the same house and also searched it. Hearing someone else arrive, he decided to hide in a large pottery jar, only to lift the lid and discover Shui Wuxia already inside.
