Ming Yan waited nervously, hoping Master Mo could help her stay in the palace, but Master Mo said he was powerless. As Ming Yan was leaving, she gave Master Mo a sachet extracted with spiritual power, hoping he would pass it on to Yuan Li to ensure his peace of mind. After Ming Yan left, Yuan Li, who had been hiding behind the wall, walked out with a grave expression, staring blankly at Ming Yan's lost back.
He felt terrible inside, and unknowingly, tears streamed down his face, yet Ling Long Shi should not shed tears. Yuan Li sat outside Qingchen's house, weeping. After being Ling Long Shi for so many years, he finally understood what heartache felt like. Qingchen, however, softly said that this was also her reason for coming here. Only at this moment did Yuan Li truly understand that he should not stop Qingchen.
Qingchen comforted the crying Yuan Li, telling him that as long as there was a glimmer of hope, he should not give up. Prime Minister Feng received intelligence that half of the officials in Lingzhou were under investigation, but he was unable to protect his own people. He knew that Yuan Zhan was acting on orders and could only go to see Lian Fei. Lian Fei, however, sneered, asking what mere officials mattered.
Prime Minister Feng had once helped Yuan An seize the throne; he knew too much, and Yuan An would surely not spare him. Now, the only solution was to establish a new army and help Prince Ling seize the throne. After Prime Minister Feng and Lian Fei left, Yuan Ming quietly emerged. It turned out he was not dead; now he knew the cause of Xianwu's death and was solely focused on avenging her.
Feng Qingchen was assisting Yuan An in reviewing memorials. She was greatly surprised to see the news that Yuan Zhan had punished corrupt officials in Lingzhou and recovered millions in relief funds. Yuan An also praised him highly but believed that Yuan Zhan, being young and impetuous, might go too far. He ordered Eunuch Sun to recall him. Feng Qingchen surmised that Yuan An's move might be to appease the aristocratic families.
Duo Xia received a letter from her royal brother. After repeatedly ruling out possibilities, she discovered that only Mu Kaisha could have leaked the news of the marriage alliance. Outside the post station, Mu Kaisha was practicing martial arts with a heavy aura of menace. Duo Xia walked up to him with a stern face and reprimanded him, ordering him to kneel. Mu Kaisha knelt instantly but still refused to admit to leaking the marriage alliance.
In a fit of anger, Duo Xia told him to think carefully before getting up. Xiao Xu arrived in Tiandu, and Eleven was ordered to welcome him. The arrogant and rude Xiao Xu, however, found fault with everything at Tiandu's post house. Eleven secretly thought about teaching him a lesson, but on the surface, he greeted him politely, his words subtly filled with sarcasm.
Consort Yin was helping Yuan An style his hair when Eunuch Su reported that Prince Luling had entered the capital. Yuan An, however, irritably refused to meet him. Seeing this, Consort Yin, wanting to protect Yuan Zhan's interests, tried to persuade Yuan An to form a marriage alliance with the Liang Kingdom, even suggesting that Caiqian marry to alleviate worries. Meanwhile, Caiqian and Eleven were shopping. Eleven listed all her preferences, making Caiqian incredibly happy.
Eleven led Caiqian to a jewelry shop. It turned out he had long placed a meticulously crafted hairpin there, the very hairpin of Caiqian's that he had broken in his youth. Eleven promised to only marry Caiqian as his consort in this life. Caiqian, being mischievous, also said that one lifetime was too short, and she wanted to make the most of it to get to know Eleven better. The two laughed and played, disappearing into the bustling street.
Yuan Ling pondered methods to rescue Feng Qingchen. The immediate priority was to gather the Nine-turn Spirit Stones, but the Ghost Stone, Obsidian, Blood Ling Long, and Ice Blue Crystal were all missing. Just then, Eleven returned with Caiqian. Seeing Eleven and Caiqian's loving appearance, Yuan Ling knew that Caiqian was about to become Princess Che.
As soon as Yuan Zhan returned to the capital, he reported back to Yuan An but was told that Caiqian was to marry into the Liang Kingdom as part of a marriage alliance. Yuan Zhan wanted to refuse, but after pondering, he surmised that the alliance was merely to balance the power among their brothers. Yuan An, however, told him that Consort Yin had proposed this matter, which made Yuan Zhan's expression darken considerably.
Meanwhile, Yuan Ling and Eleven also received the news. Yuan Ling immediately entered the palace, intending to stop this, but encountered Yuan Zhan lingering outside the palace gate. He questioned Yuan Zhan whether this marriage alliance was related to the Yin family. He thought Yuan Zhan had single-handedly facilitated Caiqian and Eleven's relationship, and now, for a tiny bit of benefit for the Yin family, he was disregarding their happiness.
Yuan Zhan felt completely innocent upon hearing this; if there was even the slightest room to maneuver, why wouldn't he want to stop it? Feng Qingchen overheard Yuan Ling and Yuan Zhan's conversation. She knew Yuan Zhan was misunderstood. Feng Qingchen stated that having served before the emperor, she could see that Yuan An had always wanted to dispatch troops against the Liang Kingdom.
Yuan An's move was likely a feint, intended to force Yuan Ling to yield and personally lead the Xuanjia Army to attack the Liang forces. As expected, when Feng Qingchen returned to the emperor's presence, she heard Yuan An talking to Yuan Ling. Yuan An repeatedly claimed he wanted to form a marriage alliance with the Liang Kingdom to eliminate the Achai Tribe, even offering Duo Xia for Yuan Ling to deal with.
Yuan Ling, however, believed this act was a betrayal and would incur the contempt of the world. Yuan An rebuked him, saying that as Prince Ling of Great Wei, his heart should not only hold one person but also the people of the world. Between Duo Xia and the world, Duo Xia was the one who should be sacrificed. Yuan Ling, valuing loyalty and righteousness, would never harm Duo Xia, but he also couldn't break the deadlock and was momentarily at a loss for ideas.
