Di Renjie set up a simple public court on the ruins, intending to clear up the order in Lanfang and rebuild the legal system. However, his actions did not gain the trust of the common people. Although there were many onlookers, no one was willing to step forward to report a crime. A young boy ran over hastily, accusing someone of breaking his grandpa's leg, but the man firmly denied it.

Di Renjie questioned him repeatedly without success and was at a loss. County Lieutenant Li had no choice but to reveal that the fire at the yamen was not arson but a natural disaster. Originally, this big fire could have been avoided, but everyone saw the fire start and had no intention of extinguishing it, because the county yamen, to them, was full of uncertainties and by no means a place that upheld justice.

Now every part of Lanfang has an overlord. Di Renjie knew he was outnumbered, but he still publicly pulled out the charred flag and declared the yamen's sovereignty to the people. Hong Liang worried that Di Renjie's action would cause trouble, but Cao An understood and supported his decision. This made Hong Liang very happy and relieved that Di Renjie had such a close confidante.

Therefore, when facing Li Tao's confession, although Qiu Yue felt touched and longed for it, she also had an unspeakable timidity. She could not believe that such beautiful feelings in this world would befall her. However, ever since Qiu Yue rejected Li Tao, his personality changed drastically. His attitude, which went from courteous to arrogant, made Qiu Yue believe that the so-called deep affection was illusory.

He was wounded by Qian Hao and was dying. Before his death, he stated that he would not kill his benefactor Li Tao, but rather someone had put out a bounty to find the real killer. Di Renjie immediately thought that the person who put out the bounty was likely Prefect Li, and immediately rushed to the Li residence to persuade him that he should not knowingly break the law.

Prefect Li confessed that he had pulmonary tuberculosis and did not have much time left, nor enough time to wait for Di Renjie's justice. Therefore, he wanted to find the murderer himself to avenge his son. The fate of the Li father and son deeply pained Di Renjie, and he immediately promised that he would never let a good person die wrongly and would certainly seek justice.

At this moment, Coroner Hu's residence was set on fire, and Li Tao's body was burned as well. After hearing the conversation between County Lieutenant Li and others, Di Renjie suspected that there was an mole in the team, so he asked Ma Rong and others to cooperate with him in staging a scene, releasing the news to the public that Coroner Hu had woken up and provided important clues. As expected, someone in the yamen secretly reported to Qian Hao, and Di Renjie immediately apprehended him.
