Qing Di brought Fan Xian to the Hanging Temple, where he not only told him the story of Ye Qingmei but also admitted that Fan Xian was his and Ye Qingmei’s child. Back then, Ye Qingmei was brutally killed right after giving birth to Fan Xian. As Qing Di had just ascended the throne and his position was unstable, he had no choice but to send Fan Xian to Danzhou.

Fan Xian had long learned of his origin from Shawn, but he pretended to have just found out. He appeared both emotional and surprised—so much so that even the always-suspicious Qing Di couldn’t tell he was acting. Qing Di placed great hopes on Fan Xian, asking him to take over the three major workshops Ye Qingmei left behind in Jiangnan once he recovered. Though father and son were reunited, Fan Xian felt uneasy.

He clearly sensed that besides genuine affection, Qing Di also harbored wariness toward him, which sent chills down his spine. He confided his inner conflict to Fan Ruoruo. Since arriving in the capital, Fan Xian had survived countless life-or-death trials. This time, he moved Qing Di by risking his life to protect him at the Hanging Temple, prompting the emperor to acknowledge him. Fan Xian didn’t know whether Qing Di saw him as a son or a pawn.

Although Fan Jian was not his biological father, his love for Fan Xian was pure and sincere. Fan Ruoruo advised Fan Xian to return to Danzhou and live a peaceful life. But Fan Xian was unwilling to sit idly by waiting for death—he decided to go to Jiangnan. Wu Zhu returned to the Fan residence with injuries, repeatedly urging Fan Xian to go to the three major workshops in Jiangnan.

Lin Wan'er questioned Wu Zhu about whether he had killed Lin Gong. Wu Zhu admitted it openly. Lin Wan'er swore to kill Wu Zhu to avenge Lin Gong, but now was not the right time. She knew Li Chengze and Li Yunrui would certainly send assassins after Fan Xian on his journey to Jiangnan and hoped Wu Zhu would protect him. Wu Zhu promised that once Fan Xian no longer needed him, his life would be at Lin Wan'er’s disposal.

Fan Xian set out for Jiangnan today aboard a massive official ship. Li Chengru, Li Chengze, Li Chengqian, and Li Chengping boarded the ship to see him off. Fan Jian and Liu Ruyu arrived shortly after. Fan Xian declared that once he returned from Jiangnan, he would formally pay respects to his ancestors at the Fan family shrine, repeatedly emphasizing that he was a son of the Fan family. Everyone present was stunned.

Li Chengqian was overjoyed—once Fan Xian entered the Fan ancestral hall, he would no longer be a contender for the throne. Li Chengze sneered at Li Chengqian and reminded Fan Xian to be cautious on this journey. Qing Di assigned Li Chengping to accompany Fan Xian to Jiangnan. Li Chengping happily stayed on the ship. Fan Xian asked Hong Zhu to take good care of Qing Di.

Fan Jian reminded Fan Xian to act with caution—after all, the Ming family had managed the three major workshops for many years, and their interpersonal ties were extremely complicated. One misstep could lead to serious trouble. Fan Xian took it all to heart. Liu Ruyu repeatedly confirmed whether Fan Xian was truly going to enter the Fan ancestral hall—she was overjoyed. Fan Jian, moved to tears, expressed his hopes for Fan Xian's triumphant return.

Even if Fan Xian had nothing left in the future, he could still support him. Fan Xian was warmed by this and felt a deep sense of paternal love from Fan Jian. As the large ship was about to set sail, Fan Xian hadn’t seen Lin Wan'er and felt disappointed. Suddenly sensing her presence, he rushed to the deck and saw her from afar coming to see him off.

Their eyes met, and in that moment, all past grievances melted away. The two tearfully bid farewell. The official ship sailed southward and soon arrived at the waters of Shazhou. The Shazhou navy commander, Lord Xu, sent a small boat with gifts for Fan Xian. Wang Qinian ordered the gift boxes hoisted aboard. The Shazhou prefect also sent gifts, and Wang Qinian had Shi Chanli record everything.

Soon, officials from all parts of Shazhou came to present gifts, and Fan Xian accepted them all. Several small boats slowly approached Fan Xian's large ship, carrying mostly white-haired elders. Wang Qinian immediately sensed they weren’t there to offer gifts but rather to voice grievances. Fan Xian suspected they had ties to the Ming family. Meanwhile, Li Chengze and Xie Bian rushed toward Jiangnan to negotiate directly with the head of the Ming family, Ming Qingda.

Though immensely wealthy, Ming Qingda wore ragged clothes and adopted a humble demeanor. Li Chengze saw through the act, guessing the real authority, the Old Madam of the Ming family, was observing them from the next room. She was forced to come out and meet him. Li Chengze warned them to keep firm control over the three major workshops and not hand them over to Fan Xian. The Old Madam dared not disobey the imperial command.

Li Chengze furiously called the Ming family dogs of the court and revealed that he had already cut off all their escape routes. Ming Qingda was furious but dared not speak up. Li Chengze issued a bounty on Fan Xian under the Ming family’s name, drawing eager mercenaries from all corners. He also spent large sums to bribe the refugees from the north, sheltered by the Ming family, to attack Fan Xian’s ship.

The Old Madam, unwilling to hear more, used the excuse of a nap to dismiss Li Chengze. He left, gritting his teeth in anger and issuing further threats. Ming Qingda suspected someone in the family had defected to Li Chengze—otherwise, the bounty couldn’t have been issued. The Old Madam forbade such talk and punished him by ordering him to stab his own fingers with needles as penance.
