Liao Jian and Pian Feng shared a drink, and Liao Jian confessed that Pian Feng was his inner demon. In return, Pian Feng gave Liao Jian the Gold-Feather Armor, a sacred artifact of the Eagle Tribe, asking him to protect Queen Chao Ya in his stead. Back at the inn, a mysterious man approached Ka Suo's bed with a dagger, but Ka Suo was only feigning sleep. He disarmed the assailant, asking if he was the Western Guardian.
The man remained silent and escaped. Chao Ya, Yue Shen, and others pursued the man as he broke through a barrier. Chao Ya and Pian Feng continued the chase, while Yue Shen and Huang Tuo turned back to protect Ka Suo. As they entered the inn, Yue Shen heard a black cat meow nearby but ignored it. Not far from the inn, Chao Ya, Pian Feng, and Liao Jian, who soon joined them, engaged in battle with the mysterious man.
Liao Jian bravely subdued the assailant, but an unseen enemy intervened, binding Liao Jian and allowing the mysterious man to inflict severe injuries upon him. Inside the inn, Pian Feng noticed his Gold-Feather Armor on Chao Ya. She explained that Liao Jian gave it to her. A flashback showed Liao Jian presenting the armor to Chao Ya, saying he was returning her favor for the Music Lock and calling it a "love token" to be passed down through generations.
Back in the present, Ka Suo regretfully informed everyone that Huang Tuo has done his best, but Liao Jian's injuries are untreatable. Chao Ya desperately pleaded with Huang Tuo to use the Exchange of Injuries Spell, offering to take Liao Jian's wounds. However, Huang Tuo explained that the spell can only transfer physical pain, and Liao Jian's vital energy is dissipating, which no medicine can restore.
As Liao Jian’s life ebbed away, he expressed his love for Chao Ya, wishing they hadn't married so she wouldn't be burdened with "bear-children." Chao Ya, devastated, affirmed her heart belongs to him and she already considers herself his wife. Liao Jian then entrusted Chao Ya's protection to Pian Feng, telling her, "Chao Ya, I won't allow you to be heartbroken for too long; just time for one song is enough." Everyone wept, remembering their moments with Liao Jian.
In the Extinct Heaven Temple, Phoenix presented Yuan Ji with Liao Jian's vital energy, which Yuan Ji readily absorbed. Phoenix promised to acquire more for him. Yuan Ji, with a cynical smile, implied Phoenix couldn't have gathered the energy alone and asked if the Western Guardian secretly assisted him. Phoenix confirmed this, prompting Yuan Ji to question why the Western Guardian didn't deliver it herself.
Phoenix explained he doesn't understand the new guardian's intentions, having suggested she report directly, but she simply handed him the energy and left. He speculated she might be arrogant, feeling Yuan Ji now relies solely on her after the Northern and Southern Guardians' failures, and doesn't respect him. Yuan Ji remarked on Phoenix's apparent dissatisfaction with his new leader, to which Phoenix reiterated his sole loyalty to Yuan Ji.
Yuan Ji, pleased, assured Phoenix that loyalty will be rewarded, and betrayal punished. Amidst floating stones, Yan Da encountered Lian Ji, who remained unfazed by Yan Da's defiant demeanor. Lian Ji questioned Yan Da about Fire King's true motive for sending her to Divine Snow Mountain.
After some taunting about Fire King, Lian Ji used an illusion spell, compelling Yan Da to reveal her real mission: Fire King sent her to locate the Hidden Lotus and steal it during the impending battle between Yuan Ji and Ka Suo. Lian Ji then criticized Fire King's ruthless ambition. Yan Da retorted that Lian Ji is no different, citing her inaction while Yuan Ji plotted against Ying Kong Shi and Ka Suo.
Lian Ji, asserting that Shi was already killed by Ka Suo, was shocked when Yan Da revealed that Yuan Ji had concealed the truth: a fragment of Ying Kong Shi's vital energy still exists as the sword spirit of the God Devouring Sword. In the Extinct Heaven Temple, Phoenix, observing Ying Kong Shi's growing closeness to Ka Suo as a sword spirit, suggested stealing the God Devouring Sword.
Yuan Ji dismissed this, cruelly stating that Ying Kong Shi's residual vital energy is merely a "supplement" to him and that he is the only true god. Suddenly, Lian Ji burst in, confirming Yan Da's revelation about Ying Kong Shi's continued existence. Overjoyed, she proposed using the Hidden Lotus to revive him once it blooms. However, Yuan Ji refused, explaining that the Hidden Lotus cannot resurrect the dead and would instead bring retribution upon them all.
A distraught Lian Ji offered to sacrifice her own life for Ying Kong Shi's resurrection, but Yuan Ji calmly reassured her, promising to find an alternative way to bring him back. In the forest, Liao Jian was laid to rest. The group expressed their resolve to complete their mission and avenge his death. They urged Chao Ya, who hadn't slept in days, to rest, but she insisted on staying at his grave. Pian Feng offered to stay with her.
Chao Ya, clutching Liao Jian's Earth-Sky Shatterer, decided to keep it as a memento. She returned the Gold-Feather Armor to Pian Feng, stating that having the Earth-Sky Shatterer is enough. Pian Feng, before departing, told a heartbroken Chao Ya, "Thank you for once loving me." Through her tears, Chao Ya silently wished the Gold-Feather Armor would protect Pian Feng, confessing that she "can't stand losing anyone anymore."
In the City of Bladed Snow, before the Ice Veil, Xing Jiu explained to the Ice King that the Holy Fire's source contained vital energies trapped in burning flames, fueling its eternal burn. To destroy it completely, they must perform the Heart-Consoling Spell to appease and release these energies. The Ice King agreed, emphasizing the need to eliminate the threat to prevent Fire King from attacking again.
Xing Jiu, with the help of Dream Tribe experts, then cast a powerful illusion, extracting the Holy Fire's source from the Ice Veil. They pursued the liberated energies as they were summoned by Fire King, leading the Ice King to declare an inevitable War of Ice and Fire. In Fire City, the Fire Princes felt a surge of powerful energy.
Fire King proudly announced that these were the vital energies from the Holy Fire, which he intended to use to restore his spiritual powers. He sarcastically thanked the Ice King for inadvertently making the Holy Fire available for him. Ka Suo entered the second dream provided by Xing Gui. In the dream, Xing Gui instructed him to find Crown Prince Shang Lie, who was nearby, to learn about the Western Guardian.
Upon waking, Ka Suo relayed this to his companions, who were puzzled about where to find Shang Lie. Pian Feng then recalled a black cat painting in the inn bearing Crown Prince Shang Lie's signature. Yue Shen remembered seeing that same black cat in the yard the night Ka Suo was attacked. Huang Tuo added that he frequently heard cat meows while cooking and noticed chicken drumsticks and fish mysteriously disappearing, and that the cat seemed fatter now.
Later that night, the black cat from the painting sprang to life, consumed the fish, and escaped. The group followed it to an unusual house where several individuals were engaged in various activities, prompting them to deduce that one of them must be Crown Prince Shang Lie. After observing them, Ka Suo identified the maid massaging a noblewoman as the true Crown Prince.
He explained that the noblewoman's overly relaxed demeanor was more akin to a pet, while the maid's skillful fingers hinted at proficiency in poisons and summoning spells. The maid then transformed into Crown Prince Shang Lie. Learning that Xing Gui, her former benefactor, had sent Ka Suo to find her before dying, Shang Lie pledged to help them seek information about the Western Guardian. In a snowy area, Ka Suo grilled fish, thinking of Ying Kong Shi.
Crown Prince Shang Lie sent an envoy requesting a private meeting. Shang Lie revealed he had encountered the Western Guardian before, but never seen their face or known their gender, as their assassination spells killed without leaving a trace or requiring their physical presence. Ka Suo insisted on finding and defeating this guardian to reach the Sky Palace.
Shang Lie warned that finding them was impossible and that his own cat was killed last night by a highly skilled assassination spell, suggesting Ka Suo leave with him. Ka Suo declined, citing the sacrifices already made by his companions and their commitment to persistence. Shang Lie accepted his decision but advised him to keep their meeting a secret and not trust his companions, as his intuition told him the Western Guardian was among them.
In the Western domain, Pian Feng visited a blacksmith's shop. He noticed an axe resembling Liao Jian's weapon displayed outside and picked it up for a closer look. Suddenly, a black mist engulfed and possessed him. He stumbled away, dropping the axe and shedding feathers as he departed.
